I think at this point you should invest in a machine polisher haha. I'd also recommend trying some very fine wet sanding paper. 1500-3000 grit wet sanding paper can really remove those deep scratches. And rubbing compound will remove the scratches made by the sand paper. I was actually going to be making a video demoing this on my car haha

Try the headlight cleaner lens kits, they are made for polycarbonate - very similar to the Snow books material .
I use kitten extra cut compound , wet the surface, place a small amount with a cloth then polish with another smooth cloth.
You can buy those cheap sponge on a stick and place it on a small drill
I like my old G4 Ibook - battery does not hold a charge but it has all of the old software and 2003 office, 10-4 is the most modern browser.
I have not watched the entire video yet as it is lunch time at work, but i think mine i set up with OS9 and then dual boot to OSX 10.4 Tiger - pretty sure it also has the minimac emulator for vintage MAC's ( i also have a 2007 Macbook Intel core2duo 10.6 and that has a emulator for OS7 or OS9 )

I went though a lot of powerbook G3s and iBook G3/G4s in the late aughts, buying them 'broken' on eBay and fixing them up to sell again. Many only required very basic maintenance such as resetting the PRAM and such. I didn't make much on each but it was basically a way to incrementally upgrade to a MacBook core2 duo, and then an iMac G5 by 2010. Since then I've had at least one MBP/MBA and one iMac 27 on my desk every year. I still have one of the 1.42g iBooks shown here, as well as it's little 12" brother. Also a powerbook Pismo. All still boot.

I still have my 12" iBook G4 of that vintage. They're really slow by today's standards, but back then, they weren't too bad. The Intel notebooks ran rings around them, though. The PowerPC just didn't make enough strides in speed to be worth keeping. They didn't support them very long after the switch, and I'm afraid that's what they're going to do again with the switch to Apple Silicon. I'm hopeful that we get 3-5 years, but they won't keep Rosetta 2 for very long. The iBook cleaned up well, though! Great video!

    • @aegonthedragon7303
      @aegonthedragon7303 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Its slow because it doesn’t have L3 cache. Thats why the G4 towers, G5 towers (which also lack cache but fast data bus and ram/sata) and even the 1ghz Titanium PowerBook can still brute force through tasks.

You got the best version of ibook. There are several possible upgrades, such as replacing the display with the display from an IBM thinkpad IPS, using an SSD (it's a bit challenging, since the ibook is ide), but I think the main focus is to keep it working for several more years, is the cooling system. All Apple notebooks have always had a cooling system that is a joke, simply ridiculous and inefficient. The Ibook is especially complicated, because its motherboard was designed so that the components are facing upwards, giving little space to work. Years ago I removed the DVD drive from mine, and started developing a super thin liquid cooling system that occupies the DVD bay, but I haven't finished it yet.

In 2013 I took two identical iBook G4's (1.0GHz) and replaced one of the IDE HDD's with an IDE SSD. Let's have a HDD vs SSD OS X 10.4.11 boot-up drag race! th-cam.com/video/c-x01QGvMHg/w-d-xo.html

Use metal shims instead of pads. Aluminum works great.. put a couple dabs of glue to hold the shims in place on the edges

Please don't just talk about the clockspeed. You must also mention what type of processor it is. Not everyone knows that these used PowerPC processors instead of Intel. It's good to point out the differences.

You look a lot different in your videos as you are cleaning compared with your polished (with eucalyptus oil) face when presenting! 😆😆😎 Let's see your rougher side minus the flamingos😆😆

That was the last iBook. Then we lost our identity and money and it became the MacBook.

My dad bought me and my siblings one of these in 2014. Still surprisingly usable at that time. I loved using Source Forge and emulators with it.

I love the 12" versions of these. They feel very premium and dense. However, I don't have any functioning units right now.

You need to update to 10.4.11 to use that version of Tenfourfox.

If you wondering why TenFourFox didn't work, it is because it requires Mac OS X 10.4.11, you have 10.4.4 installed.

I found a Presario 5000, it was running on XP Home Edition, sadly it was password locked so I had to install my own version of Windows XP.

Recently got a Mid 2009 MBP with 8gb/500gb spec. Owner completely wiped the frickin hdd, including recovery partition. Currently has windows 10 on it working alright, but what can I do to install Macos? The superdrive is officially done for and can't get it to boot off usb. I mean, it only cost me $65, so recommendations?

TenFourFox wouldn't run because you need to be on a later update of Tiger. 10.4.4 is too old

The reason why TenFourFox didn’t work is because the version of macOS you’re running is below 10.4.11. Update the iBook to 10.4.11 and try again.
