idk if my mid 2012 mbp would be that rock hard with the 9 year old thermal paste,I kind of torture my mac by playing hitman absolution, the gpu running at like 90-95 degrees and the fans running at 6200 rpm.
Yes I did and specially the part of *crusty* thermal paste
I just recently sold off a white Sony Vaio!
Im not sure if this is a useful information but I use an application called Driver Booster. It has a large database collection of drivers. Maybe it would help you in updating old laptop drivers since I use it mainly also on my old emachine 2010 laptop. Which is now used for experimenting different linux distributions. But after, I install windows 10 again and update the drivers.
Hello Psivewri, i have the same problem with the drivers on a Sony (i think's the same) you need to use the crimson beta drivers: www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-non-gcn-16-2-1-beta
Can we talk about how hot it would be to bring back colorful, clear plastic builds?! I feel like that y2k aesthetic is what most people like atm.

Hey Luke!

Hi Luke!
Lol
I always loved those Sony Vaios for some reason.
Always hated them! But i did work for Sony Vaio! :D
Loved them for the design. As clean and sharp as a Mac would be but more vibrant.
1:19 "both very memorable and easy to remember" lol
sony names have never changed ,have they? lol!
@@techmad8204 I love my Sony XBR-69420 Extra Bass Headphones!
I remember my parents buying a family computer from one of their friends who worked in PC World. At the time it worked incredibly well in the Windows 7 ecosystem with its unique touchscreen that would have jealous guests in awe.
Vaio had a lot of potential, but simply couldn’t keep up to what the PC market has become today.
I worked in Sony Vaio repair/support. And i can tell you that was not the reason.
They had a crazy high break down rate and in general pretty bad internal design, and dont think they ever made money for that reason.....So they sold off a torn in their side. Specially their cooling solution and terrible cheap haddrives and fans was the main issues.
@@danis8455 yeah I had a vaio laptop and the fan was a pain in the ears

I don’t remember when Sony made pink laptops but that made this video even more interesting. great video as always 😀
I got a pink Sony vaio last week dated 2007/8 it had vista and a celeron d so this video is very time correct
my teacher has one!
U don't know it???
They also made a kind of blue (for men), "champagne" (kind of gold/brown);
They got the succes of color after Acer Aspire A150 (Netbook) in different colors (Happend around 2007/08) ; and later on Apple jump on this train
Last year Asus or Acer also tryed to rerun colorfull odels (mint-green, softgrey, lght pink etc)

yes, Yes, YES a video about Sony VAIO laptops ! And it's from Psivewri ! As a complete Sony VAIO fan and collectioner, I love seeing videos about them.
And, if you want, I can help you correctly install the drivers on the VAIO on Windows as I have a working method for it as I have the same model. It only works on Windows 7 though. It took me more than 8 hours to make it work.
Mmmm i can make it work with windows 10, 8 and 7... Schools should teach poeple to read manuals before to use whatever electronincs device ... .😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Bruh ofc it works, I'm talking about the graphics switch. If you can make that work, especially now that Sony removed drivers from their website, we'll talk.
@@RoxGYT Why?? Why did they remove the drivers?!? I hate them

Best analogy so far, it's so true that early 2000 aesthics, Sony Vaio Notebooks, PSP, PS3, Matrix phone, all that spiderman 3 style. Man it gives me Goosebumps reminding those era styles, fun enough i feel like early 2000 are like an old era... Man time runs fast
Vaios were built like tanks! Also I remember having one of the first dedicated graphics laptops from HP. Always had issues with the laptop not switching to dedicated graphics and also not being able to find any drivers for it. Went as far as the AMD not even having the card on their list.
I am really nostalgic for the Sony VAIO. Never owned one myself, but they always had such a sleek presence.
Ahh,good old Windows 7 laptops.I miss them so much!
Only if you never experinced how awesome windows XP was! But yea i miss 7 as well compared to 10.
yep windiows 7 laptops are the best laptops ever
I also have one HP laptop with similar issue with graphics, seems like Windows 7 is one and only OS for those older switchable graphics things.
Yes and windows 7 is best
I also have an older HP with the same issue. Switchable graphics do simply not work on Windows 10 or Linux. But to still be able to use it, I tried windows 8.1 and to my surprise switchable graphics do work absolutely fine :) And Windows 8.1 still has official support until 2023
Switchable graphics arent supported since an (very) old version of windows 10.
If you guys dont want to use w7, use 8.1.
I use it and it works fine, but drivers works better on w7 (switching graphics on w7 was way faster than on w8.1)
But still, you guys can just use w8. Its just an unbloated w10 anyway.
@@SummonerArthur windows 7 is the best bruh
On newer laptops it's supported (like on my HP 205 G6, which it has AMD Radeon 520)
I bought a similar VAIO model almost 10 years ago, over time made the same upgrades to it and with Ubuntu it still runs perfectly fine to this day as my main Laptop for uni! ^^
Mine doesn't have AMD graphics though, so I didn't have to bother with the issues you had... 🤔
You did have the same problem with amd graphics because you don't have them! Lol
I also owned the similar VAIO.
2nd Gen intel i3 with intel integrated GPU.
Still working perfectly fine with Ubuntu
I recently upgraded to a dell and use my old Sony Vaio as a server. Still going strong after 9 years. I'm surprised how well the Sony firmware was implemented after using dell and it's broken mess.
Welcome to the Linux world pal. So many more possibilities open to you now for your channel and older hardware :)
Fully agree!
Came here to comment the exact same thing
well depends if they made special drivers for special features, my low end gpu nvidia driver doesn't work on my sony vaio laptop it just won't change the brightness without editing some text in the terminal, but a strange old version of deepin can adjust the brightness out of the box
Way ahead of u bro
@@namesurname4666 You can use backlightctl and bind some key to it.
This era of aesthetics and Vaio in general always caught my eye, and I especially like all the neat features and design choices this has. Needless to say, I want one now. Even a pink one.
Sony Vaio's were great laptops back in the day. I remember a lot of fellow-students having one. The big benefit was that you could entirely customise the notebook when ordering.
I had a blue one and my sister had the pink one. This is nostalgic.
Finally a Sony Vaio video, I don't feel all too alone with my 2009 Sony Vaio laptop
I have working sony vaio from 2010, and I gave it to my mom this year, still great for daily task
I used my 2009 Vaio laptop all the time, fun fact my 40's grandpa always loved technology, and in fact updated it so it had 16gb ram / SSD like in 2014 lol, until it broke 2018/2019 and bought another

Ran windows 10 with record speed and with 5 lines in the screen, yet it still works nowadays!
So much memories with it...
Memento Mori.
These older laptops FLY with Linux installed. I hope we see more videos of Psivewri trying out Linux.
Amazing that it arrived in one piece, given the packaging. I’ve wrapped laptops two inches thick in bubblewrap and Australia Post has still managed to destroy them. Thankfully they were company property, not a personal expense, but I saw photos of one that I sent that arrived bent in half, on the wrong axis. As in, there was a new fold running from the hinge to the front. The screen and the main board were both snapped in half along that line. I swear Australia Post could find a way to break a solid block of titanium if you tried to ship one.
For the GPU, you might need custom drivers for it. It worked on my H8570M.
Naaa its s problem of instalation... nothign else simle like that
Something to note when dealing with older tech that works for me,use Snappy Driver Installer, makes finding old drivers for computers easy when they discontinue them on the manufacturers website, love the content dude :)
bruh thanks I needed that for my vaio cs

I have one very similar to it, a 2012 Vaio S15, great laptop, still working flawlessly to this day, and just replaced last year because I wanted more battery life
You can try with windows 7 to get the Radeon working
That's what I commented
The Stamina/Speed Switch is to select the graphics cards, it does not change automatically and you need the original Sony Drivers like Sony Shared Library, Control Panel, Event System etc all installed. You could always update the drivers using Driver Easy but you will need the original drivers for everything to function correctly.
Psivewri! My parents had a vaio from around 2007! nobody knows how to fix this and frankly im stumped too. when you press the button only the battery light comes on, but only when you press the power button, when you stop pressing it it goes off.

0:36 You can compact multiple bags so that they accumulate space inside the package. You can also use shredded paper as a more ecofriendly alternative.
I remember a fancy gold one with a pattern on it 😭 been tryna find one but I can’t
I remember seeing a fluorescent orange Vaio laptop at work once (which I guess was from the early 2010's). I'm pretty sure the plastic was semitransparent as well.
Psivewri use sdi-tool.org that's a driver installer it auto installs the drivers cause windows 10 uses old ones
Na, his GPU is probably dead.
linux is best
AMD has stopped supporting this laptop’s GPU since 2015.
I used this recently when I installed Windows 2000 on my old Dell laptop!
I think the problem is related to the stamina and power switch. That switch controls dedicated and integrated gpus
Oh yeah I had one of these.
Win 7 is basically the only OS that supports the switchable GPU. You use the "stamina/speed" switch to change between them; doesn't do anything without the right drivers though.
If you do install win7, Minecraft will just crash when using the discrete GPU for whatever reason. It ran Fallout NV pretty well, though.
Mine bit the dust literally the last day of college where the power button failed (I assume). The thing never turned on again.
01:41 nah, 100% sure thats windows 10 just being windows 10. Nothing unusual there.

I bought a Sony Vaio one year ago as "fully working". When it arrived i found out it won't charge a battery, few keys doesn't work, and GPU failed. Instead of returning it, I tried to repair this, but I failed. I bought second motherboard, which turned out, was fully working (battery and keyboard were ok). But then BIOS failed, and fan had max RPM in Windows 10. I will try to sell it with new battery and power supply, for I had bought later a Fujitsu Lifebook (my previous laptop was Fujitsu Siemens, 15 years old, but still working flawlessly! Besides, this is how I found Your channel - looking for Fujitsu Siemens stuff). As far as I know, the AMD mobile GPUs from that era were often failing, don't know if only in Sony laptops, but it seems, that Your Sony has it too. Hope this one will work fine in Your hands!

Hello! Do you fix laptops for other people?
i remember way back like 15 years ago, when people who had VAIO laptops were absolute bosses
Maybe you should switch that thing to “Speed” for the graphics card to kick in.
The issue is though there's no drivers for Windows 10, so the switcher won't work.
Still have my white vpcsb16fg from jbhifi 2011. You're spot on about the disassembly nightmare. Problem with mine is the thin power board seems faulty, so it won't even power on with or without the batt. Can't find parts
I litterly always tbaught that Vaio was a different company than sony lol
Your not alone lol i used to think that as well

I have almost the same model, but mine I bought in 2013 with 3rd generation i5, an Nvidia GT640 LE, 6Gb of RAM and Windows 8. And I can tell you that this laptop still work pretty good! The Nvidia GPU still works, including with Photoshop and Illustrator ( yeah, is not a top performing, but is better than nothing). Also, this laptop was my daily driver machine until last month, when I replaced it with a G5, not because stop working, but professional reasons.

It's honestly a shame Sony doesn't make these anymore. Recently got given an old Vaio running Windows Vista a while back and it still works fine and is pretty snappy.

I normally don’t like pink, but for some reason I find this laptop, appealing ❤💻
My friend has this still working and he uses it even today.
VAIO has a cool secret in its logo. The V and A are made up of an analog sound wave while the I and the O are a 1 and a 0, representing digital computer bits and bytes
This makes me miss my good ol Sony Vaio Fit15E, one of the last ones released in the US.
just got a slightly similar model some days ago, and for free!
it was throwed around in a ewaste box, just half of it, so you gotta use it connected to a external monitor, i took it home and tried to turn it on, plugging it in it gave no signal of life, turns out it was just the charger connector that wasn't working, swapped that out and now i got a working Sony Vaio SVT131A11X for free, with a 3rd generation i5, 6GB of RAM and what seems to be a 32GB PCIe SSD? it's not accessible, but after some research it seems that this thing helps the HDD using a weird hybrid system
You require a specific AMD drivers to utilize it. I fixed one of my friend's laptop which had similar issue. All did was using the old driver. I could help you by sharing the driver link.
Those hybrid GPU laptops from the early 2010s were a nightmare. They only had Windows 7 drivers that didn’t work on Windows 10, so basically you were stuck using an outdated OS or with the Intel GPU. Had an HP laptop with the same issue.
I remember playing Crysis on my 2010 16” Vaio 😅 640p and low settings ftw!
we here at the woolies corporation stand by our fine plastic bags, good for snags and laptops, whatever the need we got ya back mate
I remember I was tasked to fix a similar model, it was overheating, it had a funny 3 way performance switch, and no matter what I did with thermal paste on the tiny heatsink and new fans I could not keep it from shutting down despite the fan going full blast. I had to give up and tell the customer the machine would only run stably in stamina mode, the customer had no idea what that switch did and was happy with the workaround. I remember the waif like weight and small screws and dainty design, had the same plasticky feel as a Walkman.
