Can I connect the fan power to the motherboard and not connect the RGB cables? Will the fans work properly? I couldn't care less about RGB lighting and don't care to mess with proprietary software for RGB.
Thanks for the info and making me spend $300+ on new fans and controller and Rad this morning! I am just telling my wife you made me do it. I need an out and your it bud! LOL. It all started with a new case and 4080 like 2 days ago $1500 right there. Now I got 9 new fans and a rad this morning $380 right there. corsair in my eyes are lagging behind in the fan department... i know there mantra is "dont fix what isnt broken" but when manufacturers like lian li/seasonic have come up with there own daisy-chainable fans you would think corsair would have been the first to impliment somethin like the lian li/(new) seasonic fans
Most Excellent and very useful video - going to build mine shortly on to daisy chaining power from couple of spare Sata slots, unfortunately at moment got older board with only one System Fan - not enough juice to run my 6 fan setup.
Question, you use a fan splitter cable to plug 3 fans into 1 socket on the MB, what would happen if you used this cable to plug 3 fans into 1 socket of the commander module? would it just detect 1 single fan and provide the same settings to all 3?
Are these superior to the LL120 RGB fans? Cannot find a direct comparison and unclear what the differences are. Thanks to anyone who can point me the right way!
Havent had time to watch full video yet but could you list the hardware you use? I have the new h150i with the af fans on it, two 3 packs and one single fan, and also two commander core xts. Do I need anything else?
I’m doing my first pc build and have purchased the af120rgb elite fans . I was going to buy the commander core xt but Corsair help says the commander core and commander core xt doesn’t support af120rgb fans to use icue they have to go into motherboard. They’re also not listed as compatible on their website with core or xt. I’m confused as I’ve purchased the icue h150i elite capellix xt which comes with commander core and af120rgb elite fans. Could you please clarify as I don’t want to buty more fans and xt if it doesn’t work . Great channel I’ve based my build on your Corsair 5000d airflow build and bought that case .
My ML120's RGB bulbs are deteriorating fast, for example 1 of the 4 bulbs on a single fan is continuing to show the correct colour but the other 3 are sliding to the green side. What are some other better quality Corsair fans I should consider? Thanks.
Hi so i used the commander core i think for 5 fans and everything operates fine with the icue. But im having an issue where i power on, the fans twitch but dont spin and they all turn red. The fans dont start spinning until i log into the windows account and the the lighting settings adjust when icue loads. Is that normal? Should i buy splitters like you used to mount it to the MB? Its such a small issue but it drives me crazy. Great vid btw!
@@musicbyfaintyou probably found out why already but its the cable management and hubs needed to connect everything. Plus issues with icue detecting each device. Finished my build today with 10 fans and it was the most stressful part by far
I purchased a new Cyberpowepc a month ago. Took me a frustrating hour to realize that my RGB fans colors were not controlled by the gigabyte fusion software but by a button on the Phantek case which cycles through different colors. So as a complete novice I wondered about adding a few more fans but how do I get them to sync all together. I realized that none of the RGB headers of the motherboard had anything plugged into them which really confused me. How on earth are the fans lit up and controlled by a button the case. I don’t want to go digging in the cables since everything works great now, but in case I get brave I’d like to know how these are working without anything being plugged into the motherboard? And the new fans plug where?
It's hard to advise from afar. But if it's from a button on the case then it's either a controller or daisy chained fans connected to that button. What fans are they.
arctic has daisy chained connectors on their fans that plug directly into the 3 pin mobo header. avoids the need for extra boxes and even extra software.
I have a Corsair hi150 elite and 4 Af120 fans, but I am confused about how to put the wires together. So, in total, 7 fans, but 3 of them are on the aio. Any help? Please
My AR 120 fans are not able to change colors I have the lighting node core and everything but it won’t work when I try to change it in ICUE can I pls get some help
I have a problem with my 3 pack af120 fans where all 3 work fan wise, but the rgb on one doesnt work. They’re all connected to the corsair rgb splitter and still nothing. On the very first day they all worked but the next day no rgb.
Instead of using a commander core + corsair rgb hub, could I just use two commander cores for simplicity? For 9 total RGB fans so there's a couple less system fan headers that need to be used. 3 of these would be with a h150i elite lcd xt, which come with 3 AF120 fans. This would need 3 total USB connections right? Between the two cores + the AIO connection, assuming my case (h6 flow) doesn't need any additional for i.e front panel? So I'd need a USB hub since the mobo (gigabyte aorus elite ax) only has 2 USB 2.0 headers?
At one point I bought 12 Corsair fans but after going through the cable mess, I gave up. Returned all of them and bought Lian Li fans instead. It went down from 24 cables to 4, and 4 controller boxes to 1. I bet Corsair will eventually release fans that can daisy chain everything together. Not going to buy any fans from them until that happens.
