    wow. you covered everything all in one video. from the perks of core xt, to not needing all the other junk, to basic setup, to even software setup. i was expecting it to be another day of looking through many videos just to find all info in one, but you nailed it. you also persuaded me to buy the core xt over the commander pro in your other video. well freaking done. your videos are excellent.

    I Literally spent ages browsing forums trying to figure out why it wasn't showing up in iCue, I spend 13:03 here and I find out I'm not actually running the most recent iCue, I was running legacy, and every time I pressed check for updates it was saying up to date, so I downloaded the most recent and that fixed my issue, thanks a million, I don't blame myself and think i'm dumb, just the software is a little dumb for not even offering to upgrade icue to 4.2+

    Your video explanation convinced me to try out your method in my new case Corsair AIO upgrade. I have installed a Corsair Hydro iCue H150i LCD CPU cooler with three radiator and three front fans connected to the Commander Core which came with the AIO. As you suggested, I purchased an additional Commander Core XT to control two more fans for exhaust. Additionally, I installed a full Lian Li 24 pin MB and 3x8 pin GPU Strimers connected to the its own controller. I then used the adapter cable you recommended to connect the Strimer Plus RGB to the RGB socket of the Core XT. After following your setup method, it all came together and I now have a fully iCue integrated and controlled lighting system! All the fans have been named and cooling linked to the CPU and case temperature. Immensely pleased with the result. Thank you so much.

    That's a fantastic and detailed overview of the Corsair IQ Commander Core XT! Thank you for taking the time to explain all the features and connections. It's really helpful for those of us who are considering using this controller.
    I have a question regarding the temperature probes. You mentioned that they should be placed in the case to measure ambient air temperature. Could you share any insights or recommendations on the best locations to place these probes for accurate temperature monitoring? Also, have you noticed any significant improvements in fan control and system cooling by using these temperature-based fan curves?
    Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with the Commander Core XT!

      From what I understand, you can tape the temp sensors to pretty much anything that is in your case, maybe by the front fans, or the exhaust fans, back the case, right on the inside of the I/O panel where the fans are exhausting. Or if you have a custom loop like I do. Even easier, I plugged in a temp sensor for my CPU block and one for my GPU block. Two separate Core XT and one more to control my front fans. Hope that helps?

    i have the corsair iCUE commander CORE and I have 4 fans on a hub that came with one of my 3 packs of QL120's. Out of my 10 fans 6 are directly plugged into the commander core, while the other 4 are in on the hub that is plugged into the daisy chained USB plug in on the commander core. then the core is plugged into the MB. With this the hub and the 4 fans daisy chained to the core light up RGB cycle but are not detected by the corsair iCUE software so I have no control over the fans in terms of RGB. PWR I have used wire splitters on the power side and that is how I can control the speed to all the fans no problem.
    Any help please. Why does the QL 120s come with a RGB hub if it doesn't work with the commander core why does the commander core have a daisy male USB seemingly so it can connect to a RGB hub? I feel like how I set it up makes sense and is why that extra USB is there seems like they are useless or I am doing something wrong. If I need to get another commander core then where do I plug that into the MB. I only have 2 plugins to the MB and 1 has the NZXT AIO and the other is the commander core. I don't know how I can get all 10 fans on the same controller.

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi EeveeGamin, The core XT will connect to a 9 pin USB header on your motherboard. USB 3.0 headers will be 19/20 pins and this won't connect to that, however I think they make some adapters, but I haven't tested that. This will work fine on the usb 2.0 9 pin header.

      Thanks for the support and feedback @vipergod2000!!! The SP120 and SP140 should be detected as 8 LED fans without too much trouble. I have on a couple of occasions had to disconnect everything and run through the wizard to let it detect nothing and then connect everything and do it again. If that fails, power off your pc, try physically removing the sata power to the controller, wait a minute and connect it back up. I've had to do that a couple times as well. Great video. You touched upon one thing in this video that I am interested in exploring further. I would like to know if it is possible to have more than six fans, say eight fans, on my computer and be able to control them enough that any lightening effect that the first six fans perform would seamlessly transfer to the seventh and eighth fans. For instance, right now, I am using the Sequential light sequence, and it performs on all eight fans, but only the first six fans are in sync, number seven and eight fans do the effect but at their own pace. I am using a Commander Pro device, an older one from three years ago that does not have the RGB ports on it, that is a separate node, but from what you said in the video I got the impression that if I would buy another Commander Pro that it might be possible to have as many as twelve fans all in sync? Is that accurate? If it is possible to do, could you explain it to me or point me in the right direction for a website or another video? I am confident that I am not the only person that might find this information helpful. Maybe you could do a video on this issue? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long comment.

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi captainsky_usa, great question! It should be able to sync lighting on all those fans. How do you have the fans connected to the PRO. As you stated the PRO doesn't have the RGB ports, but instead uses those 2 LED PORTS in which you connect an RGB HUB, do you have 2 HUBs, with 6 fans on 1 and 2 on the other?
      I'm actually working on a video right now connecting multiple CORE XT's and PRO's together as I think this is a subject that many of us want to know more about.
      I haven't really played around alot with more than 6 fans, but I don't recall any issues when I played around with that, but it's been awhile, I will add this to my testing this week, I have 2 hubs and 2 PRO's, i'll see if I have any issues.
      Let me know how you're hooked up, for now, i'd suggest, make sure the PRO firmware is up to date. On that note, make sure you have the most recent version of iCUE. If your using 2 HUB's, one to each LED port, make sure the last two fans are on port 1 and 2 of the hub. If you're using the PRO and say a lighting node pro to control the other two, let me know, might I suggest you try connecting both RGB hubs to the PRO.
      I may have not fully grasped your setup, so let me know how it's hooked up.
      Thank you for watching!!!

    WHY DID YOU CONNECT THE CM xt to the CM pro 8:56 ??? but in the video you let us think you connected it to the MoBo??? IS THE CM PRO needed with the XT??? Im having a problem with my CM XT not seeing the fans when i run the wizard...iCUE sees the XT no problem fans spin no problem BUT no fan control or RGB control...HELP

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi EL MarTiLLo, that's a great question. The CM PRO is not needed. I simply connected it to the CM PRO in the video to prove that it would work and because it was more practical while demonstrating it in the video. It will work fine going directly to your motherboard.
      The fact that icue sees the CM xt and powers the fans is a good thing. I'm assuming your fans are connected to the 4 pin rgb connections and not on a hub using the 3 pin connection. I would try the following to try and gain control.
      1. Remove all the fans from the CM xt and then run the wizard. Let it finish, then reboot. (after a reboot, retry the setup)
      2. If it's still not working, try one fan at a time in different ports.
      3. Try only plugging in one RGB connection, and don't plug in any fan pwm connections, just to rule out some sort of power draw issue on the controller.
      4. if that works, try adding fans one at a time.
      5. Make sure icue is at the latest version.
      6. If it still won't work, I would try removing ALL usb devices except mouse/keyboard and retry.
      7. uninstall icue, reboot, reinstall and retry.
      8. Try another PC if you have one
      9. Make sure your USB drivers are up to date, try updating your chipset drivers for your motherboard. But since the controller is recognized, i highly doubt this is an issue.
      After that, capture the logs from icue and contact corsair, perhaps there is an issue with the controller.
      Good luck and thanks for watching!!!

    I'm wondering if I'd be able to use USB passthrough in my Hypervisor to a Windows VM where I'd install Corsair iCue, then run a sata and USB extension out a pcie slot to the Commander Core XT and connect all my different server rack fans and temp probes.
    Does this sound like it could work? Could Noctua fans work with this or would Corsair have better functionality? I dont care about RGB fans but might use a RGB light strip for server rack lighting.

      Hi Gavin McDaniel, you should have no issues placing this controller on the metal tray behind the motherboard, it's designed to be placed there. I wouldn't stick this on a HDD, but aside from that, it should be good. Even then, these magnets are too weak to affect anything. I've had these in my pc along with other magnetically attached devices and haven't had any issues.

    Great vid: I am 73 trying to grasp this stuff. I am building a computer. I have 6 fans, I don't care about RGB. I am using mostly Noctua A-12 PWM fans. I just want to know that the fans are running, protecting my stuff. I am using the Corsair H115i RGB Platinum. Would I be served well by getting the XT? Thanks..trying to wrap my head around this. I will also have the iCue software. I guess i can watch a vid on the temp probes and how to place those?

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi carolinanumber1830, thanks for the feedback, I hope your having lots of enjoyment building your PC, it's always been alot of fun for me. The H115i AIO comes with the Commander CORE (no XT). The CORE is essentially the same thing as the CORE XT, it's just missing the RGB port and one temp probe, and in turn is where your AIO PUMP plugs in. Other than that, it has the same 6 PWM ports and 6 RGB ports. Your Noctua PWM fans will plug into the Commander CORE and run fine and be controllable through icue. You do not have to use the RGB ports on that device, the PWM ports are independent. So it sounds like you have everything you need with no need for additional hardware if 6 fans is all you have (including the AIO fans of course).
      I have had the temp probes video on my list of videos to make for a while now, I need to get at it, haha!

      @ HardwareArtisan Thank you.. great to hear from you. I bought the ICUE Commander Core XT. I took the radiator (2) fans off of the XT and plugged into the 2 fan leads off the H115i RGB Platinum because I came concerned that if the software or XT went south that the pump would still have the rad fans? so i wouldn't burn up my CPU. I have the pump connected on my board to CPU_Fan connector and obviously the Sata to Sata and I did use the pigtail end of the usb connecter for XT to usb the aio and attached end of that to the bottom of motherboard at a USB plugin. Maybe you could do a vid on connecting aio's and XT to motherboards or something in that flavor. I will install ICUE software when i get up and running. Do I need to do anything in BIOS for the two rad fans or no? Thanks for all your great instructions and also about the temp probes. Greets!!

    Thanks very very much! This is an excellent reference video for the Commander XT. I am leaning toward using two Core XT over two Commander Pros. Can you use the USB extender in the XT to connect to the second XT? If not, will a USB dual spitter off the mother board suffice?

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Scott Stevenson, Yes, you can use two CORE XT, plugging the second one into the piggback extender of the first one, I've tested it and it works great. I will say however, that the USB extension on the second CORE XT then becomes uselss as there is no signal to it. That extender only has a single set of pins and is dependent on the source device having all 9 pins, so because the first CORE XT's extension cable doesn't have both sets, it won't send signal to the externder on the second.
      I'm not sure why corsair did it this way exactly and it's odd as I think this how everybody wants to use it, perhaps even use three of them. But it is what it is.
      I'm working on a video on this subject this week as I think this is a common concern everybody is having.

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi valpro2000, great question. I believe the 570x has a 6 port RGB hub and uses a little 3 button remote in the case to control the rgb lighting. This RGB HUB will work with the CORE XT, you would plug plug it into the RGB port on the CORE XT and configure fans using the 3 pin lighting setup in icue.
      You will need the cable to connect the hub to the controller....i'm not sure if the 570x used that patch cable or if the remote was hardwired to it. The cable you need is just a corsair 3pin rgb to 3pin rgb cable. You certainly could get it from corsair if you dont have it. The CORE XT won't come with it. (but you might already have it)
      The CORE XT does replace that hub as well though, so if you only have 6 fans, you could get rid of the remote and the hub and just use the CORE XT, it has a 6 port rgb hub built in and the PWM connections as well.
      I hope that helps, thanks for watching!!!!

    Could you daisy chain another Commander Core XT into an existing Core XT, if you want more than 6 fans connected to the same chain? If so, how would you connect them, do the included USB pigtail connector work if you stuck it in a second Core XT?

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Christian J. Bårdsnes, YES, you can connect a second CORE XT on the pigtail extender on the first CORE XT, this works great, I've tested it.
      However, doing it this way will render the pigtail extension useless on the second CORE XT, at that point nothing is connected to it, so you can't add a third device to it.
      I can't say exactly why Corsair made that pigtail extender with only a single set of pins, but that's how it is, it's my least favorite part of this device.
      But, yes add both of them, piggybacked on to the other and it works awesome, i'm actually working on a video on that subject this week as it's a great question I get.

      Hi Jonas Nyman, the CORE XT does not require any RGB headers from your motherboard. In fact, that's a great reson to use this controller, this controller will give you RGB control when your motherboard has no native ability to do it. All you need for this controller is a SATA power connector and a 9 pin USB header from your motherboard. Make those two connections and install iCUE and you will then have Corsair RGB control.

      Hi stanjd, the corsair 4 pin connector, which is a molex connector is really only designed for corsair fans. However, check out this video on an adapter cable to adapt these ports to use with the 'standard' 3 pin 5v ARGB:
      th-cam.com/video/w2Pt86_qUYc/w-d-xo.html
      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a regular 4 pin ARGB fan, 4 pin usually means it's 12v RGB which won't work here, or you could mean 4pin PWM (power and speed control), any 4 pin PWM fan will work on this hub with no problem.

The others, however, I believe all have the 4 pin RGB connector and will work fine with the CORE XT. I have a set of SP120 RGB elite fans and they work well with the core XT.

    • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Inteak Ryo, when using the Commander PRO, it requires the use of an RGB fan HUB from corsair, this hub plugs into the RGB port on the Commander PRO. The CORE XT doesn't require this, the HUB is built in to the controller.
      It is possible to connect more than 6 fans to the PWM connections. You can use PWM splitter cables to accomodate additional fans. You should be ok going up to 10 fans, just keep the following power requirements (specifications for the PROP) in mind when doing this:
      1A per PORT, 4.5 A total across all ports.

      Hi Zivot U Americi - MrBalkan, I would swap two of the working fans with the two non-working fans. If the problem follows the fan, then check the connectors carefully. If the problem remains on those two ports. I'd start with trying another power connector on your power supply.
      If that doesn't work, remove all devices from the core XT and add one fan at a time to the port not working to see if it will go and work from there.
      If using a single device it still doesn't work, I'd make sure I have the latest icue version installed and then force a firmware update to the CORE XT and retest.
      Beyond that, it would sound like a bad set of ports, I'd contact corsair at that point.
      Let me know what you find.

    • @HardwareArtisan

      Hi Alex Speranza, 3 Pin fans are DC (not PWM) controlled, meaning to change the speed the controller must vary the voltage across the voltage pin. • @HardwareArtisan
      @HardwareArtisan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi SnowBall, great question, if you have more than 6 fans, there are couple of things you can do. If you only have only 7 or 8 fans, what I would recommend is that you consider adding an RGB hub into the LED port of the CORE XT, which gives you RGB control of an additional 6 fans. You configure this through the 3 pin devices in iCUE. This solution, however does not provide any power control, so you would need to connect the PWM connection to your motherboard or another PWM splitter.
      You can find this HUB several places, but here is the link to the corsair product page, it's currently 9.99 by itself.
      www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Custom-Cooling/Accessories/CORSAIR-RGB-Fan-LED-Hub/p/CO-8950020
      If you have alot more than 6 fans, I would suggest just purchasing a second CORE XT, which gives you 6 more RGB ports along with the PWM connections.
      Good Luck, thanks for watching!
