I’m very happy that I saw that first gen Grand Caravan when I did on facebook and told you about it, it’s seriously helping your Blue Van and it’s beyond amazing in my opinion and it’s a early Christmas miracle
That 90 Dodge is exactly identical in color and equipment to my grandfather's 1989 Voyager. Amazing. Boy if I had money, i figure out a way to get her back on the road. So many good memories in that Voyager. It was my grandparents first brand new vehicle in 13 years. Thanks for the memory jumpstart. 😊
When I was a kid, we had an 87 same colour. It was a blue and blue base model. With the V-6. It had factory AC that still worked with its original charge, even when we got rid of it in 2000. Something that was cool with the old Caravans, the second glove box underneath the passenger seat. We lived in the rust belt, ours wasn’t rotted out. The engine was starting to use coolant. That’s why we got rid of it. But it had over 300,000 km
Not too many people back then bought the BASE model. And if they did, they didn't get the upgraded V6 engine. Do you know if your parents bought it off the lot or was it special ordered??
man what a find!! glad to see you got a fair share of parts off of it! I seen in the wheelbarrow near the end you also grabbed the under front clip "spoiler" thing. I used to have one on the propane van until it caught a hard finger snow drift on the way to work. didn't notice until the end of the day and by then it had been ran over 100 times.. I also have a gen 1 bug deflector off the propane van that I want to put on whatever van I get going next year. I know they don't help with the mileage but I know first hand they really do cut down on the bugs and grasshoppers making it to the windshield. I woulda grabbed some of them floor bench seat blanks to if they were any good. not easy to find them in matching blue!
@thestuffz yeah when I switched my 90' from the plastic bumper to the chrome one I never had that underskirt. Was glad this one had a good one. I kept the deflector on the hood, not sure if I'm going to use it or not. I'm 50/50 on it.
You did good. Got so many good parts off that 90 1st gen. & 50% off price to. What a haul & jackpot. Looking forward to seeing your 90 after you incorporate those parts.
my grandparents used to have a red or burgundy 90 grand caravan and they got it brand new , they replaced the engine attleast once, it had been wrecked atleast once and then the engine finally died again and it was sent to the crusher, that was back in the mid 2000's and i think the body had over 300k miles on it, but it was a decent car
These final years of the first gen are very attractive vans. The front end treatment that came out in 1987 and finished in 1990 makes these first gens in my honest opinion. I would hope you would save the grille and lights since those are so hard to come by these days. Being an SE in powder blue really looks nice. I wish people would put these vans up on marketplace or craigslist BEFORE they just junk them. Once the average junkyard get a hold of them, the general public destroys them without any care for what they are. If you look at the manufacter sticker, this was ONE of the LAST first gens to roll off the assembly line since it was made in June(6) of 1990. Another great van that could have been saved. 😮💨
@@MNMoparMinivan I take it you snagged the rear bumper ? You need a few wanted ads posted wherever you can . Might get some good deals.. add more vans to ur fleet !
If I could I would have showed you a video of what I found on the scrap yard I found the first gen with complete full front and back bumper and great condition same color too
Seems like this thing was well cared for through 1999. Maybe original owners? I would say that with the mouse nests, this was probably parked shortly after the tires were replaced. Probably would have been just as easy and cheap to buy the whole van lol
That's the first year of the 3.3 l V6 same drivetrain that's in my 1990 Chrysler imperial such a shame to see that in there another little piece of my heart broken!
You had mentioned something about the transmission computer update /replacement. Is this something that can be done still. My 90 3.3 with the 4 spd auto has a mind of its own at times. Wondering if this is what it needs
@timbriden625 theoretically it would be. You would need to find a dealer that still had a drbII, the required software, and someone that knew how to do it. That may or may not take some calling around. Or you could salvage a trans computer from another van that has a software update sticker like this one. I don't remember the latest revision off the top of my head but the version is noted on the sticker.
Montana doesn't spread salt I believe, but sand instead. Lucky find! Are you going to paint the 90 to match these new panels, or the panels to match the van, or something else?
@98-SR5 I'm going to paint my 90' back to its factory color which was the dark blue. Currently its that speckled blue. I think I've shown it a few times but my van was dark blue with woodgrain. You can still see remnants of that in the door jambs
@RangerRick-cg2gu i have. Although I haven't been since their original shop burned to the ground. They don't have as much older stuff. And upull has had everything i need as of late. When I need something they don't have, I swing in there. Although if their inventory was as easy to check as upullrparts, I'd be more inclined to go.
What I do to find out what might be in stock at Hiway 101, is go to their website. Then I look for a common item that they used for the whole generation of production, like a hood or windshield. Right now, it looks like they have an 07, then a few 08-13 minvans.
@RangerRick-cg2gu that's how i filter at upull, is with a fender. But the thing about 101 unless they've changed. They use car-part.com salvage listing's which iirc requires them to input a lot of those by hand. They miss a lefthand fender on one and then you don't see the van listed. UPull doesn't work that way, it just autolists every vehicle that *might* have that part.
@stevecole101sc ive seen a few pictures of the pickup conversions. Some are really well done... others not so much. 289k... only 4k more than mine has lol!
