Soo I've been stupidly taking my new black Durango to the new auto carwash up the street cause it's convenient. but now all I see is swirls galore and whatever wax coating (lava shield is what they call it) is visible on the glass so im sure it's thick across the whole vehicle... Any words of wisdom to remove this crap so I can compound and polish the swirls out? Planning on ceramic coating it when I get it all cut and clean... Awesome vid btw it's giving me alot of confidence in a harbor freight DA and my ability... TIA for any advice!
Hey brother super happy to see you trying to take care of your Durango! I would do a full decon wash with a strip wash like purple power vehicle & boat wash. After that complete claying the vehicle and follow up with an IPA wipe down with the dilution provided in this video: th-cam.com/video/mdmfd05aX3c/w-d-xo.html after that you'll be pretty much set to go to polish! If you have any more questions just ask!
1. wash - washes off surface dirt 2. clay - gets off embedded dirt in paint 3. compound - gets out big scratches and very dull paint (can be skipped if car has smaller scratches and newer paint) 4. polish - makes the car shine 5. wax - protects the car paint
MERKULES 187 between 4 and 5 when the scratches come off the car. The wax is a sealant too, it just doesn’t last as long as ceramic so you’re basically trading one for another
Thank you for saying "gals" because I am a grandma getting ready to tackle an older Subaru, with your help. Like another commenter, I have watched multiple videos on this but yours gives more detailed content and more visuals. THANKS MUCH.
Just purchased a black car. I knew it would be a lot of work, but I've been reading and studying up on detailing for the better part of a year before I try to remove the swirls. The amount of knowledge you can accumulate on something seemingly as simple as cleaning a car is staggering.

Thanks for including the ladies! I've got a 2009 black Honda Civic that I've been working on diligently to restore the paint. I get odd looks from the guys at the autoparts store or from neighbors when polishing or getting under the hood of my car.
I've been learning and trying products over the last couple years, detailing my truck. The tip you gave about always wiping in one direction was something that I didn't know. All this time I have been wiping in a circular motion and undoubtedly undoing some of the work that I've been doing. Thanks
Been creating my own anxieties over cutting and buffing my Corvette. I come from all hand-everything as I am older but, being 45, I am not too old to want to make things easier. I have used this exact setup on an old Miata and it was flawless. I assumed that my Corvette needed something magical and was about to pull the trigger on Rupes gear, or even Griott's setups. It isn't about the money but I kept remembering the Harbor Freight DA and looked it up on YT. When I found this video I knew that was my path. You relieved my woes as I know that my Corvette isn't "that special" to where a DIY'er needs a Rupes setup. Yes I love my car but I am not about that life. Great video. I can't tell you how many times I stood in Harbor Freight and tried to determine what I needed to polish our cars. This video explained it all. Thanks!!!
This is the absolute best video for beginners. I’m an auto enthusiast myself and love to care for my own vehicles and this video explains this process in the best way possible without any nonsense and straight to the point. I just wanted to personally thank you man 🤙🏼
This Arizona girl is about to get water spots out of some paint and windows. I’ve been brushing up on some videos I had saved, and this is a good one! 🙂 Thank you for including us women in the conversation as well.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you explaining the basic without overdoing it. Especially for a beginner like me it’s important to keep it simple but essential. So many people explain but are getting too expert minded or too simple with a lot of questions left. In addition, you take the time to answer questions and provide further insight if needed. Thank you so much for your time and efforts! Now, I am going to tackle my 20 year old S500....not that have to but I am looking forward to the process. Should be quite an experience with a deep burgundy almost black metallic paint which I thought looks decent but have been shown that it can be improved significantly. Keep up the excellent work. I’ll be watching !
I tried using a DA polisher and its slower than the second coming of christ, the Rotary at Harbor Freight (advertised for 29 bucks) works very well for the money. I did buy a 5-inch backing plate and use 6-inch premium pads from China. It would be helpful for you to identify the one-step polish and where you get your buff pads because there are so many options and every product is different. SPTA pads range from very soft to firm and the quality of foam can vary between styles. I like the Diamond pattern from SPTA and ZFE - T-60 & T-40 for general polishing but these are hard to find since it was removed from Amazon a long time ago (foam material is made in Germany).. Just pointing this out because any beginner is overwhelmed with the many choices and deceptive descriptions used in marketing detailing products.
He may have picked that up from The Junk Man, top TH-cam detailer of all time.He is inclusive :-) Starts off all his videos with " Well Boys and girls..."
This video answered all my basic questions I had about prepping the paint, buffer machine, and saving myself time working the paint. Thank you for all the info...
My 08 Kia Rio was the first car I polished. Great car to learn on and the results I got were pretty good. As a total noob I'd like to say that you need to set aside a few days to do this. It took me a lot longer than I thought.
I bought one, too. It was good money spent. Very decent/good quality & durability for sure. I could've spent twice the money and I feel sure that I'd get the same results. Used McGuire's liquids and HF foam pads.
Love that you say “guys and gals” because this gal is fixing peeled clear coat on my car and it has an orange peel affect right now so needed to learn how to compound it and make it shine! Thanks....gotta buy a DA now and Meguire’s products......
I am a newbie and trying very hard to fix my peeling clear coat on my 2005 Honda....I need Help, I sanded the clear coat and actually peeled it off on my roof....then I used Dupli spray paint to make but stupidly I removed the white sprayer thinking it was a plug so the paint was not real smooth...I did sand a bit (didn’t know it should have been wet sanding) anyway I then sprayed their clear coat (3 coats) it is kinda rough and orange peel. I now did wet sanding and ,definitely smoother...my question, should I spray more clear coat or use my DA that I just bought and compound it and then wax it .or what? Btw, I bought Meguires 105 and 205....thanks for any help..
After your done sanding just move on to compounding and polishing. If you spray more clear your gonna double coat and it won’t properly bond to the surface
Great instructional video simplifying the necessary products needed to do a great job on personal vehicles...without “pushing“ overpriced products down your throat. Thanks!
Ditto on J. Osborn comment. I've been youTubing videos on what polisher to buy since I'm going to detail my 03 Tacoma for the 1st time. Some other videos don't speak to well about Harbor Freight D/A polisher. I have two vehicles to work on but I'll use my truck as a Guinee pig before I do my wife's 2012 CRV. Thank you for the thorough demonstration and for making it clear to use regular alcohol mixed with water and not Jameson on the rocks.......
Great video. This should help people get over their fear of polishing paint. If I may add some additional info. I take an additional step when prepping and that would be using an iron removal spray before I clay bar. This step removes any metallic particles such as brake dust, rail dust and industrial fallout that may be embedded in the paint. To me this is a necessary step that should not be skipped. Especially on light colored vehicles. Also each pass should overlap the last pass by 50% and be in a hashtag or horizontal and vertical pattern. Do not get sloppy on this part. Keep your pad flat on the surface. One series of horizontal and vertical passes is called a pass or a set. One to four passes per section may be necessary to achieve the desired results. The pads and compounds used has a direct effect on this. Don’t start with a heavy cut pad and compound. Do a test pass first then check your work. Some clear coats are softer than others and you don’t want to remove anymore than necessary. Make adjustments to pads and compounds as needed. Have fun and keep it shiny.
Sorry Greg for the late reply...No videos at this time. There are a ton of videos already out there on this subject. Just watch a bunch of them and take away something from each one. All of the big car care product companies have videos out. Check out some of those as well.@@gregbuchanan4163
alhumdulilah, in every video I've watched on detailing that has had clay baring the paint in the video, none of them explained the difference between straight lines and claying in circles and why that's a no no BUT this video and i appreciate that so much. Thank you.
The Chicago Orbital Polisher from Harbor Freight has a reasonably serious flaw that needs to be addressed after its purchase. Sometime back, I saw a You Tube on this unit and it clearly made points that the purchaser should check for three manufacturing flaws: 1). Check the brush assembly. One of the two brush sets will not be correctly seated. 2). The gear housing will not have adequate lubrication in it. 3). The 5" pad adapter was out of balance. Since I didn't believe what I was hearing at the time, I cracked open my Chicago Polisher tool. Results: The You Tuber was absolutely correct. I found all of the stated deficiencies in mine as well. So unless I wanted to toss $65 in the garbage after a few uses, I got busy. Re-seating the brush assembly was easy. Checking the gear housing lubrication was harder. This will require removing the plastic cover (not the handle/body assembly) and then accessing the gear housing by removing the screws (not easy - you'll see why). Item # 3 was remediated by discarding the pad adapter and buying a quality replacement. What I found inside the gear housing was a little dab (I mean a LITTLE spot) of cheap heavy lube grease placed in a location where it would do absolutely no good. After a quick cleaning, I completely filled the reservoir with a high quality white lithium grease. I tried testing the polisher out after reassembly. After about three minutes, the sound level of the polisher dropped by about 20%. Vibration dropped by about 30%. No wonder I guess .. a little lubrication goes a long way. I now have a durable tool to last quite some time and it has performed very, very well on our three autos. Just thought I'd pass that along.
I recently picked up a bunch of detailing products clay bar etc. including a DA polisher and I gave it a go today did the hood and right front fender with meguiars ultimate compound then polish. Never used a polisher before so I tried doing what you do in the vid. There were still alot of swirl marks but the black is now metallic and sparkly Ive never seen it better. Thanks for the vid mate.
I pee’d on my hood. It didn’t work at all, so I washed it. It looks better now.Maybe there really is something to peeing on your cars hood before you wash it.
After hours of video watching I stumbled on your video. Best basic guidelines for beginner so I feel more confident to tackle the job. Thank you so much.
Dude your explanation was just on point…you did a fantastic job I’m going out to get my car prepped and waxed my self because you broke it down so perfect in the vid…thanks from LA,CA
The older Harbor Freight D.A. is a better unit,in my opinion....I tried both and the older unit is built much better...I modded mine to and relocated the on/off button to the top for better control, decked the gear box housing for a better mesh, swapped the spindle bearings and use a 3m backing plate....these $60 harbor freight DA's outperform $300 polishers...great units and I highly recommend them, especially if you can get your hands on the older model....👍great vid...I'm getting ready to do my 2016 shaow black f150 supercrew for the 2nd time..last time was 2 yrs ago..took about 30-40hrs and killed my arms, but the results lasted forever... its time again though...came out perfect last time, but want to see if there is any other steps I missed the first time, which was a 5 step..Basically,I clayed, then compounded with the red pad, then stepped to a medium cut with the blue and fine polished with the black pad..used the mequiers ultimate line, except for my medium cut(#5 cut),which was mequier professional fine cut glaze..then topped it with mequiers ultimate liquid wax/sealant....I wasn't a fan of the wax though,as it streaked really bad and was a mission to remove....I think im going to use the mequiers carnauba paste wax this time
That was a great explanation of how to polish paint! thank you for all the info. Now all I need is some better weather and I can try this on my car... Can't wait to try this!
very good instructional video ik im late to view, but through my career i have found that shorter choppy motions when clay baring does a bit better than those long strokes👍🏼
Bud can I just say I’ve watched a hundred prep videos and you are THA MAN! Finally I get answers on clay bar scratches. My Range Rover is all kinds of scratched from the clay bar and I thought I screwed up majorly. Your are my hero.
I wish I has seen this video before I did my first buffing attempt on my Firebird convertible. My mistake was I started it up with the pad full of polish and it was not against the body of the car. I got polish all over my black convertible top. Live and learn
Great K.I.S.S. method!!! K- Keep I- It S- Simple S-Stupid I am a novice at best and this is BY FAR the best video I've seen. Dude, thanks alot. Quick question though, I plan on using a one step. With proper wash, decon, clay, paint prep, one-step, wax/sealant, how often do you recommend this process to protect your paint? Twice a year? My nightmare is that I would damage the clear if I do it too frequently. Thanks again.
Hey man thanks so much for liking my video! Regarding your question you only have to Clay and polish your paint when needed you should only do it once every few years! Now ask for your wax or sealant apply as recommended by the manufacturer that you are using
14.40- Use gloves. I was cutting my car with some t-cut to get rid of scratches and didn't put my gloves on. OMG after 3 hours of working on my car, my hands were red and really painful, even after washing them it was like I had burned myself on the oven. So gloves for me every time now. cool video, worth the watch if your interested in how to polish your own car. thumbs up from me. :D
Awesome video and introduction to a quality finish and sustaining it. I would just like to add that after all that hard work 1 or 2 cycles through an automatic car wash will completely destroy it and you will once again be covered with swirl marks. Also, my car has full PPF on the front end and full ceramic coating. One time getting rained on and then sitting outside at the airport for a couple days in SLC, UT my entire car is covered in hard water spots that won't come off. Wash and clay bar had no effect, I now need to redo the paint correction on the entire car, I feel the ceramic coating was an entire waste of money.
Thanks for a great video. I’m a 70 year old retired woman with a RV. I will be using this polisher and a compound to clean the oxidation on my RV. Will all these products work just as well on the RV?
Hello Pilotdiana! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Sadly these products(m105 & m205) are specifically tailored towards car automotive clear coat, which is very different from RV fiberglass and gel coat. I do recommend a product such as: Meguiars RV heavy oxidation remover (for really bad oxidation) www.amazon.com/Meguiars-M4916-Marine-Oxidation-Remover/dp/B0000AY4YX this product is specifically made for fiberglass and gel coated surfaces that you would find on your RV. And if the oxidation is not to bad on your RV you can also use Gel Gloss RV polish and Protector: www.amazon.com/Gel-Gloss-RV-GG-64-Polish-Protector/dp/B004OZLNE4?crid=L9A7T1QP9FMS&keywords=rv+one+step&qid=1529341995&sprefix=rv+one+s&sr=8-17&ref=mp_s_a_1_17 this product is a one step just like the product(pink bottle) I mentioned in the video but again its specifically made for RVs. Please if you have any further questions feel free to ask and remember to like and subscribe!
Dude this is the video i needed to watch, I have been so confused about the products out there and the steps. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Cannot wait to try it out with the harbor freight DA polisher I bought!
So happy you enjoyed the video and got something out of it! Make sure to subscribe for my latest car detailing tips and tricks! New videos every week! 🙏
This is a great polisher, but if you pair it with a 5" backing plate and 5" pads more power is applied to the paint surface with phenomenal results!!!!!! backing plate is removed easily with the tool that comes with it.
Besides the 'OK' which about 5 percent of guys do (but I could not survive professors in college who did that ha ha) this Gentleman is great on all levels of display and communication and detail! I have not even got half way through and appreciate. Not even selling anything.
Griots garage correction cream and perfecting creme are far easier to use as well as faster and they yield better results. I used meguiars mirror glaze for a decade before switching.
Great simple video for beginners. Just bought a DA polisher and wanted some info to get started so I could spruce up the paint on my truck and cars. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Thanks so much ❤️ I have been trying to get the gloss and shine back on my scion and have been failing . Your video helped me get the results I'v been wanting so again thanks.
Thanks for the info on using a DA polisher, it certainly beats wiping on polish by hand and wiping off as it takes of scratches and swirls in the paint much better.
With modern clear coats, Me personally I start with the least aggressive of the 2 to see if a polish product will do the job first. My car has tented clear on it.
Believe it or not at one time on TH-cam a lot of professionals like yourself actually recommended their first buffer come from harbor freight tools. Ever since they changed their plan and started charging more I don't see as many professionals recommending it any longer. I do enjoy watching your videos and of course I always make sure you get a thumbs up and I can only subscribe once. Look forward for watching more videos
@@48Detailing I'm glad he asked and you replied, I'm reading all 900 or so comments and learning. Honestly this is the BEST detailing video on TH-cam! Subscribed and going to keep learning. Thank you.😎👍
Thanks for the info. I have an orbital sander/polisher . I bought the pads at Amazon and it explains the colors of the brand. I will have to do this and I have very little experience doing it. I have done it by hand on my truck.
I just watched about 6 videos on this and this is by far the best as far as explanation of the entire process. Just one question, wouldn't it be better to use the IPA to remove wax before the clay bar?
Hey Brian I'm really glad you enjoyed the video to answer your question in order to room wax you're going to need to use a paint prep solution or an IPA solution! A clay bar will only remove embedded contamination from the surface of the vehicle, really hope that helps!
@@48Detailing I know that the clay bar removes the contamination but what I'm asking is wouldn't it be beneficial or more effective to remove any wax with IPA before using the clay bar?
Very insightful and great video !!! Can you please tell me when (or how often) this polishing process needs to be done w/o damaging the clear coat. I just got a new car 3 months back and haven't been to any car wash yet . Thanks
I did this for the first time and my paint gotten worst. I cut with a medium pad on speed 1 and it left tiny cracks on my paint. Not sure if I went over the same spot to many times - 4 passes. Lucky i only did it on my hood. The rest of my car I did 2 passes
Great video! Thanks for the information. However, I do have a couple of questions that I didn’t see in the comments section. When would you want to make any touch-ups? Seems to me the best time would be just before polishing. How would you handle vinyl stripes? I have a 2012 Boss 302 and I would hate to mess up the stripes. Replacement costs for them are astronomical.
I can typically split one clay bar between two average size vehicles but after the clay bar is completely covered with contamination just throw it out. A claim it or towel on the other hand can last multiple cars!
I noticed that your Cutting Compound (105) did not dry out on you as you were working, and that the product(s) were easy to remove with your towel(s). How do you keep the products from drying out on you while you work? I practiced a few times, and my Meguir's keeps drying-out on me, and is tough as hell to remove with a microfiber towel (I had to switch to a washcloth just to remove the residue).
Many aspects play a key role in making the residue removal process easy. 1) make sure the surface prior to paint correction is contamination and wax/sealant free 2) make sure not to perform to much surface area at a time 3) make sure your pads are clean after each pass 4) make sure the panel or the vehicle is not to hot
how often to do this to a car? is it recommended for twice a month or what? does this not destroy the clear coat? sorry for my questions coz im ignorant about this procedure, car washing for my car is only the one i know, good video thanks for sharing
if you buy 50% rubbing alcohol you do not need to add water its already 50% alcohol & 50% water that's what the 50% means same for 70% its 70% alcohol & 30% water For Cleaning the paint 91% is best it will remove any oil wax
Hello Dan! Thanks for watching and also your comment. You are totally correct about the alcohol dilution ratios, I just find that a 50/50 mix does the job in 90% of situations. I do sometimes use a 70/30 mix when needed. You are completely right about the 91% being the best at removing oils, but I just think that is to high of an alcohol content for most surfaces. That's just me though Dan, so thank you again for your insight and remember to subscribe!
Dan theman if it’s 50 percent water wouldn’t it be more accurate to sell the product as water also containing alcohol in a 50 percent concentration. Truth in advertising
Hello, this is exactly what I am looking for my car, good job brother, a question between m105, m205 and ultimate compound and polish, which is the best option, many people say about the m105 a lot of dust, thanks
Thank you so much for your help on understanding the fundamentals fam‼️ your teaching was basic and powerful‼️🙏🏽👌🏽💯 I’ll be watching this over and over again until I’m comfortable and ready to work on my car‼️
Great informative video man - thanks. Two questions: what did you use to clean your pads? And can you clean clay or do you just bin it it when you’ve used it once?
I've been wanting to try this for 2 years now. I kept having to prioritize other things, but I just found a good sale on the harbor freight polisher, and I'm preparing for a big wave of car work. Several fluids need changing, brakes/rotors need done, and she hasn't been washed in a hot minute, so it's time to look into this again. I've only used a paste wax in the past for simplicity, but I want to try ceramic eventually. Until I can do a true correction, though, i need something that is more durable and eaiser to apply than paste, so I will try a sealant this time. Ive never done any paint correction, only up to clay, so I might do full clean, then learn how to a polish, and finish with a sealant for now. Then i may try a more serious correction in a few months (Paint touch ups, rusty chip treatment, then compound). I'm not gonna rush to ceramic until I'm sure I'm satisfied. I'm not even quite sure if it's the right choice for me either. I might just have to stick to sealants so I can slowly work on the paint instead of trying to perfect everything and 6 Thank you for all the good tips. It's a little intimidating but you've helped make it approachable.
hey my friend, fantastic video thnks a bunch. What brand/type backing plate would you suggest w this DA polisher I am actually newly employed at Harbor Freight and am looking to get my hands on this machine, would you suggest any brands pads and what sizes might I add. We actually have M105 on stock along w the several other Meguiars glazed and polishes so that’s covered my way at least, thanks in advance for your help my guy
Hey! Thanks for watching and your questions! As for backing plate I switched mine to a max shine 5 in backing plate, as for pads I personally use the 5in lake country foam pads or the 5in buff n shine foam pads. Meguiars is a great place to start when it comes to polishes! I wish you good luck, remember to subscribe!
Great video, I'm learning a lot about detailing. I have a question, CarNewba, near the end of the video you mentioned some waxes that provide really higher end shine and protection. It sounded like you said "P20 Once?" Can you clarify what that was and where to purchase. Thanks
I'm not a fan of carnauba for durability. As soon as the car's surface temperature hits 185 (or so), it quickly starts to degrade and melt off. But at lower temps, it certainly does shine, literally.
Soo I've been stupidly taking my new black Durango to the new auto carwash up the street cause it's convenient. but now all I see is swirls galore and whatever wax coating (lava shield is what they call it) is visible on the glass so im sure it's thick across the whole vehicle... If you have any more questions just ask!
just go to a touches car wash and then use a Worx or Ego leaf blower to dry it.
Great video man!!
@@48Detailing I'll second this comment, Purple Power is what we use to strip cars and it's cheap.
CarNewba Detailing wouldn’t you use IPA after polishing to remove excess residue? Didn’t think doing it before would be necessary
1. wash - washes off surface dirt
2. clay - gets off embedded dirt in paint
3. compound - gets out big scratches and very dull paint (can be skipped if car has smaller scratches and newer paint)
4. polish - makes the car shine
5. wax - protects the car paint
Where would a ceramic and selant fit in this order
MERKULES 187 between 4 and 5 when the scratches come off the car. The wax is a sealant too, it just doesn’t last as long as ceramic so you’re basically trading one for another
Thanks😅
What's the best cheap polish, scratch out? I'm working on a guitar that I painted and using m85 diamond cut compound.
Don't forget Iron removal before you polish and seal.

Just pointing this out because any beginner is overwhelmed with the many choices and deceptive descriptions used in marketing detailing products.
Thank you for including us girls!!! We love detailing just as much as you guys do to! so yeah you are the first one to include us.

Noticeable difference, I'm so HAPPY that someone can finally explain every step completely. TTHANKS SO MUCH!!!!!! I will try that.
My 08 Kia Rio was the first car I polished. Great car to learn on and the results I got were pretty good. As a total noob I'd like to say that you need to set aside a few days to do this. It took me a lot longer than I thought.
I use a harbor freight da on my 2015 gtr and wife’s 2018 BMW X3 - as a hobby it’s perfect not sure how it would hold up in an industrial use case

Love our female detailers!!!
CarNewba Detailing Thank you so much...my fingers are crossed
Exactly the sort of video I was needing. I have had Megs 105/205 for about a year, not really knowing what to do. Thanks from Australia!
With that much knowledge and correcting his video I wanted to check out some of your videos. I can’t find them do you have any?
I used your technique years ago on my black escalade it came out excellent people were always asking me how did I get my paint to look so good....
If you’re getting a lot of swirl marks you can try doing a second pass with the compound.
You need to watch karate kid " wax on wax off " lol
I pee’d on my hood. It didn’t work at all, so I washed it. It looks better now.Maybe there really is something to peeing on your cars hood before you wash it.
I do detail boats and car for a living, and the chicago electric DA is a super tool, i have 3 DAs and 2 rotary, no complaints my friend.
The older Harbor Freight D.A. is a better unit,in my opinion....I tried both and the older unit is built much better...I modded mine to and relocated the on/off button to the top for better control, decked the gear box housing for a better mesh, swapped the spindle bearings and use a 3m backing plate....these $60 harbor freight DA's outperform $300 polishers...great units and I highly recommend them, especially if you can get your hands on the older model....👍great vid...I'm getting ready to do my 2016 shaow black f150 supercrew for the 2nd time..last time was 2 yrs ago..took about 30-40hrs and killed my arms, but the results lasted forever... its time again though...came out perfect last time, but want to see if there is any other steps I missed the first time, which was a 5 step..Basically,I clayed, then compounded with the red pad, then stepped to a medium cut with the blue and fine polished with the black pad..used the mequiers ultimate line, except for my medium cut(#5 cut),which was mequier professional fine cut glaze..then topped it with mequiers ultimate liquid wax/sealant....I wasn't a fan of the wax though,as it streaked really bad and was a mission to remove....I think im going to use the mequiers carnauba paste wax this time
I replaced the grease inside my HF polisher and it knocked the sound down by half. Seriously! Totally worth your
time.
I did the same! I do it to all my tools now helps a lot!
Cornelius Talmadge Curious as to what grease you used?
That was a great explanation of how to polish paint! thank you for all the info.
Now all I need is some better weather and I can try this on my car... Can't wait to try this!
I feel included when you say guys and girls as a girl. Ty for helping me polish my car 🚗💨
very good instructional video ik im late to view, but through my career i have found that shorter choppy motions when clay baring does a bit better than those long strokes👍🏼

I am a novice at best and this is BY FAR the best video I've seen.
Now ask for your wax or sealant apply as recommended by the manufacturer that you are using
CarNewba Detailing Gottcha 👍.. thanks for the reply, Have a good one!

Thank you for starting on the ground level. Paint/detail 101. You need to teach the basics and you did a fine job.
Best video I've watched on this topic out of 8 or 10 of them. Thank you so much!
Super glad you enjoyed!

This is one of the better DIY videos. I believe the correct terms are "Guys and Gals" or "Boys and Girls."

I did exactly what you said in the video. My truck had pretty scuffed up paint and it helped immensely. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Best video extra detail taken. No one else talks paint prep.
Good video. Very informative. Question: what percentage alcohol do you prefer to buy to make your 50% alcohol/50% water solution?
I know this comment is 2 years old but I’m wondering the same thing
Great video, very easy to understand. I’m finally planning to completely detail my 2008 Saturn Vue when it gets warmer, now I can’t wait
Griots garage correction cream and perfecting creme are far easier to use as well as faster and they yield better results. I used meguiars mirror glaze for a decade before switching.
Thanks, I am going to Griot's tomorrow.
Thank you. This is the most comprehensive demonstration I've seen on YT.
Great simple video for beginners. Just bought a DA polisher and wanted some info to get started so I could spruce up the paint on my truck and cars. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Awesome 👍. This video is easy to understand. Just starting paint correction here.
Glad you enjoyed!
@@48Detailing I've seen alot videos that I'm confused . What are the steps again before panel prep again.
Thanks so much ❤️ I have been trying to get the gloss and shine back on my scion and have been failing . Your video helped me get the results I'v been wanting so again thanks.
Good job thx, i'm doing up my Mustang this weekend and it helps seeing how its properly done.
Gold I can help!
Thanks for the info on using a DA polisher, it certainly beats wiping on polish by hand and wiping off as it takes of scratches and swirls in the paint much better.
No problem glad you enjoyed!
I recommend the flex 3401 professional grade polisher!! Outstanding results!!! 👍🇨🇦
Use it all the time at the shop!
Yes please do a video on replacing the three bearings. Thank you.
You should be proud of yourself. You got through to me understanding on how to get started.
With modern clear coats, Me personally I start with the least aggressive of the 2 to see if a polish product will do the job first. My car has tented clear on it.
Yes that is always best practice! And tented clear is something you really have to be careful of!
Speed of polisher to fast and finish off that nice shine with a sealant!
After compounding and polishing you would need to wax it right? But thank you for the great video! Just learned so much more.
Yes some type of protection is needed!
The best video I have seen so for in regards to this phase of auto detailing. One question--- What is ONR?
One stands for optimum no rinse! A concentrated waterless wash that can be used as a quick detailer! And thanks glad you enjoyed!

Oh got ya! If I'm doing a full decon I would use a IPA/paint prep follow by clay and then another IPA/paint prep
Terrapin Hobsecutioner is my favorite IPA. Just say’n.
Just the video I was looking for! Thanks for the demo and in depth process. A+ man!
Finally I learn 2 step heavy compound /versus light polish great blog
Great tutorial for us neophytes, thanks.
Thank you for including us girls. 😀
Thank you, very detailed. Feeling confident about trying something new
Sweet, I have the harbor Freight sander already. I just need polish to go with maguiars m85
Thanks for the video, mate! You made it look super easy.
Very insightful and great video !!! Can you please tell me when (or how often) this polishing process needs to be done w/o damaging the clear coat. I just got a new car 3 months back and haven't been to any car wash yet . Thanks
Congrats covered every step, especially for beginners. Maybe a little bit more lighting.
Old garage set up, could only do so much with the lighting! But thanks !!!
I’ve seen lots of videos on this matter, but your’s is the most clear and understandable. Thank you!
Thank you!
I did this for the first time and my paint gotten worst. I cut with a medium pad on speed 1 and it left tiny cracks on my paint. Not sure if I went over the same spot to many times - 4 passes. Lucky i only did it on my hood. The rest of my car I did 2 passes
You probably had sometime of paint failure prior to even polishing, how old is the vehicle?
Great video! Thanks for the information. However, I do have a couple of questions that I didn’t see in the comments section.
When would you want to make any touch-ups? Seems to me the best time would be just before polishing.
How would you handle vinyl stripes? I have a 2012 Boss 302 and I would hate to mess up the stripes. Replacement costs for them are astronomical.
quick neebie question. How long can you use the same clay bar for? can you clay a whole car with one clay bar? thanks for the reply.
I can typically split one clay bar between two average size vehicles but after the clay bar is completely covered with contamination just throw it out. A claim it or towel on the other hand can last multiple cars!
Great video. I liked the idea of priming the pad. Thanks
@@48Detailing : I'm gonna try spritzing the panel, I'm working on, with water...
Thanks for the help.
how often to do this to a car? is it recommended for twice a month or what? does this not destroy the clear coat? sorry for my questions coz im ignorant about this procedure, car washing for my car is only the one i know, good video thanks for sharing
Only if it needs it! Polishing your vehicle is something you do not want to be doing frequently!
if you buy 50% rubbing alcohol you do not need to add water its already 50% alcohol & 50% water that's what the 50% means same for 70% its 70% alcohol & 30% water For Cleaning the paint 91% is best it will remove any oil wax
Never quite understand why many of these videos does go to the edges of the individual panels. Good tips, thanks.
Because you'll get better results moving slower and fuller coverage. But for any daily driver what is done in the video is great.
What kind of light do you use for inspection?
Any standard single LED spot light or handheld light works great!
Thank you very much I'm about to start with my Lexus. You just gave my confidence a welcome needed boost. I am now a subscriber
Great informative video man - thanks. Two questions: what did you use to clean your pads? And can you clean clay or do you just bin it it when you’ve used it once?
Check out my video on how to clean pads: th-cam.com/video/rswkmn5G0fM/w-d-xo.html
And sadly you cant clean clay! Just trash it!
I might just have to stick to sealants so I can slowly work on the paint instead of trying to perfect everything and 6
Thank you for all the good tips.
CarNewba Detailing thank you for replying it’s appreciated
No problem!
Thank you so much for your explanation very detail. Please as a beginner what are the materials one needs to have?
This video was very helpful! Thank You! I love the pad cleaning trick! I'll definitely be using it during my detailing.
Thanks for the video. This is my third time reviewing your video. What do you use the alcohol/water solution for?
Great video, I'm learning a lot about detailing. I have a question, CarNewba, near the end of the video you mentioned some waxes that provide really higher end shine and protection. It sounded like you said "P20 Once?" Can you clarify what that was and where to purchase. Thanks
www.carid.com/p21s/carnauba-wax-mpn-p21-12700w.html?view=697593&gclid=CjwKCAjwguzzBRBiEiwAgU0FT3t6YB4BYesSD9cN6IrSS3J_7FpX67Z0ORt4Er3vvQAlPVYcNYaoVBoCXUIQAvD_BwE
I'm not a fan of carnauba for durability. As soon as the car's surface temperature hits 185 (or so), it quickly starts to degrade and melt off. But at lower temps, it certainly does shine, literally.
