    Amazing how detailing has come along when you think about it. I remember polishing my first car (1981 austin Maxi 1750) with Tcut and a "Polisher" from Argos in the 80's. It was true to the word of "Polishing a turd". In my eyes as a 18yr old lad it looked good, but im sure it was absolutely shocking.

    When I polished my Nissan 350Z by hand I washed the entire car and then I did the clay bar, hand polish and wax on each panel at a time over two days. I did have it in garage but I still rewashed the panels on the second day in case any grit had landed on it. This panel by panel approach spread out the intense effort of the polishing and I think it was less boring than several very long spells doing the same thing.

    I probably fall into the category of "scared of machine polishers." One thing I found to lessen the pain is to do the car over a period - a quarter each time - use it then another quarter after the next wash. Great back to basics vid.

But for those wanting hand polishes for spot repairs etc there are others available for the job 😎 👍🏻

    Used to polish by hand my E90 320i using Megs Ultimate Compound (then BH Cleanser Polish twice per year as maintenance) and top with BH Auto Balm. Christ trying to buff off Auto Balm by hand was a HIIT work out. That was 8 years ago. Still have PTSD from buffing off BH Auto Balm - havent hand polished or hand buffed since. The results were stunning, though for a 'hand job'....

    Good video, nice to see autoglym and basic processes that most people can use in action.
    Your comment about nutters who want more than a quick polish and wax made me realise those who machine polish are surely less than 1% of society? Niche group I’m happy to be part of.
    Machine polished for 10 years, weekend only hobby/semi professional, 120+ cars mostly classic and special types, started with a meguiars DA, lasted 3 years/50 cars. Then moved to flex 3401 and still going, almost always used 3m fast cut, meguiars ultimate compound, auoglym super resin polish, collonite 476 wax as 4 stage, reducing early stages or cut as needed, all after a good wash and clay of course, polishing is my happy place, clearly yours too!
    Keep up the content, I remember before you had an envious lineup of flex machines decoration the garage wall - well deserved collection

    I’d be interested with an IPA wipe over how much had been removed vs filled, I’m a big fan of Black hole with buttery wet wax, easy on easy off, lasts couple of weeks.
    I was always impressed by the Gtechniq P1 with a foam applicator product videos but never felt the need to try it with SRP being such good value.

    I will recomend Autoglym 'Liquid Clay'.
    Its like that colour change purple wheel cleaner but for the duco.
    Not 100% like clay bar but it seems to get very close.
    Even if you still clay bar afterwards, its easier and there is less marring.
    Having said that a shot of liquid clay and Fusso does wonders for a pedestrian daily.

    A couple of questions I’d like answers to are: how long do different types of detailing products last for (before they go off), and how should they be stored (e.g. is it ok to store them in a shed during a cold winter). Be good to see a video covering these topics 👍

      if you put SRP on a car and dont wax over it the SRP will wash off after a few washes. This bottle of SRP is 10 years old and works fine. but if it was all dry and battered then bin it. most paste waxes will stay good for years. Any siloxane based product, spray and rinse for example, typicaly lasts a few years.

    I'm afraid I've been converted to using the DIY detailing clay towel, it's a fantastic piece of kit for decontaminating, I've done my car with it using P&S absolute rinseless wash with 6-8ml per litre of distilled water and some Carpro iron remover as a clay lube system, removing both iron particles and general fallout. The best way is just to use the weight of the mitt with absolutely no pressure on the towel (or you will induce marring) and keep going over the same area until it feels silky smooth. Not marring and nearly a bare clean surface to polish. I tend to go over with Surfex HD lightly to remove polishing oils and Carpro Eraser to get anything I've missed. Then work out how and what's the best way to tackle the swirls and or marring. My new car was 90% perfect as the dealer was told not to wash it. So I gave it a very light hand polish with a puc and Koch Kemie microfine finishing polish (soft paint Japanese car) after a very short time after using a swirl lamp, a further improvement ready for Carpro Dquartz Go diamond nano ceramic coating. Sometimes you do need to machine polish a car and you'll need to set some time to correct the paintwork for older cars.

    I’ve always hand polished with Autoglym SRP. As you say, hand polishing is an effort. I start well, but by the last panels, I’m rushing it.
    This makes me want a machine polisher, but it makes me nervous 🤣
    Is there such a thing as an idiot proof machine polisher and pad(s) that can be used with SRP or the like?
    I also love Autoglym UHD wax. Other than its ease of application/removal, the best thing about it, other than the great results, are that I genuinely see longevity of 6 months plus and still beads water.

    love your down to earth hands on videos. Im really struggling to remove the fine swirls from the painted black plastic between tail lights on my 2023 mustang. Had some sort of alien bird poo that etched in very quickly. I had no problem by hand once i used a microfiber pad to cut just using meguiars ultimate polish and m210 glaze but no matter what type of sponge ive used i cant seem to remove the fine swirls that remain by hand. I havent been able to fill with any wax or sealant products from several brands yet either. I have a few autoglym products ive bought here in Australia that have worked well for me havent tried any polishes yet. Do you think this super resin polish will fill in the fine swirls or can you suggest any products that are best for filling and hiding these swirls, even if i have to use after every wash. This area of the mustang seems to swirl and mar just by staring at it too long. Any advice or suggestions would be muchly appreciated. Thanks for the great videos theyve been very helpful for a newbie like myself.

I end up taking all my detailing products in the house through the winter, they are about to go back out to the garage today, the sun is shining after all. Looks like your garage is single skin blockwork like many garages, what do you do with yours over winter months in an unheated garage. I would say most people arent detailers. They are valeters. Everything but paint correction or polishing.

    Completely unrelated to detailing but on my 65 inch tv I just realised you have no eyebrows … is this a result of detailing ???

    Was the clay bar dirty when you used it? Because that marring is the worst I've ever seen

      @ForensicDetailing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      was new m8 but car was plastered. however bad though the marring always comes out rapidly. even with the hand polish. this paint is proper trashed though, literally been cleaned with a brush or brillo pad paint.

    I like Autoglym super resin polish (always have) but my current motor has black plastic wheel arches so I dare not even try it 🐔

    I don’t think it was anywhere near 70% better, I hand polish because I think machine polish wears the paint away, am I wrong

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You not accurate. Depends on product really. So I can use a glaze on soft pad and low speed whizz over etc . Much better results on machine always

    After the hand polishing should have removed the polish from the paint completely and showed us how much it actually corrected the paint.

      How? even if you panel wipe you won't strip that fresh resin. We showed paint after polishing and before waxing.
