Harbor freight is THE place to go if this (in my opinion) over priced item is in contention for you. HF has their bauer 6 inch DA regularly under $60. Crazy imo to have to literally build/put together something like this

The shortness of the body is ideal for some of us female detailers who's smaller hands sometimes struggle holding on to these machines, especially for long periods of time....I love the look of that one......Unfortunately we dont have a walmart in the UK.

Great video on a home DIY machine. My only suggestion would be to hear the difference if any after you repacked it with grease and which grease you used.

2:35 It makes a ton of sense. It’s foam. It’s easily reverse engineered. It’s not something any competent factory would have trouble producing. I’ve seen this day coming and here we are, viable paint correction for the average consumer. I’m here for it!

As you and others have mentioned it looks like a good entry level polisher. Use with something like One and Done and top with Flex Wax you could get a nice finish with some protection. Nice review 👍✌️☮️
I just got the griot g9 never polish before I have the complete compound would I use the step 2 pad with it and if I did a wax step 3 pad or can one of theses pads do both . Ty for help
@@sixkings7831 You would use the step 2 for cutting and step 3 for finishing. The softer the pad the better it finishes. The stiffer the pad the more it cuts.

I had to repair the bumper (came out great) and after spraying, had to wet sand some imperfections and used this and the right pads and it came out great. I’m waiting to polish the kit after I install it; much easier to polish/buff when it’s on the car vs lose parts on the ground lol. Thanks for the vid, helped me a lot 💪🫡
I have some light scratches on my truck from tree branches that i can't quite get out with elbow greese. Would this polisher, some rubbing compound and a step 1 or 2 disc do the trick? Also would this be a good tool to apply wax? Thanks!

I bought a Milwaukee 21mm cordless polisher not knowing that I would have been better off buying the 15 as I am fairly new to polishing.. Would you recommend selling the 21 and take the loss, or can I get better results replacing the 6 inch with a 5 inch backing plate?
I would definitely switch to a 5 inch backing plate. With the long throw you just have to pay close attention to mirrors, door handles and body lines when you get close to them.

@tallsz559 Yesterday I watched a review here of 8 brand name waxes, $5 to $26 ea, from a pro detailer (don't recall his name). He was shocked. No discernible difference between any of them! He even did a Project Farm-style beading/sheeting test. He said to use what feels best to you to wax on/off. Perhaps endurance may be the only discriminator, which he did not test.
I can't find that specific one on the Walmart store, and I gotta do something about the paint on my Lincoln, its trashed but its gonna be a while till I repaint it
I purchased these and they work pretty good for the price. In my area the pads are about 7-8 dollars. They work good for polishing and all but after sticking the pad on the polisher 4-6 times the Velcro gives out on the back of the pad and won’t stick anymore.
what is that vibration like sound? Before you tried to bog it down. Of course it got worse when you put orrsdure on it. Definitely would swap out the Grease for a higher temp better quality grease

Brian, have you ever used a Porter Cable? I hear that it vibrates. It's loud and ergonomically uncomfortable. It's not that cheap either. I still see suppliers selling them in a bundle. I'm asking because I'm looking for something to compare it to. I wouldn't buy it because I already have too many polishers. It's borderline insanity. Right along with the polishes, compounds and ceramic sprays. Nice demonstration bud.

I’d love to see your results with the db meter again after greasing the gears to see if it did quiet it down so there isn’t 3db noise difference.

Oh it’s way more machine then just applying a wax or sealant. This thing has plenty of power to correct any paint. I recently took the backing plate off and put the Griot’s 3 inch backing plate on it no problem at all. Worked perfectly

@@stangedude5646 A long time ago they did but all polishers from the last 15-20 years are Velcro. I have a 6 inch Griots Garage Polisher from 2005 that is Velcro.
How about the WM pads on a more expensive DA Polisher? I usually use Lake Country, but needed some pads the other day and needed some, so I went and bought the WM versions.
So here’s the kicker, this or harbor freight, either the 8mm or the 20mm. The 8mm is less than 40 right now and the 20mm has gotten down to $50 before. Pads honestly look great though.
HF has a pretty neat tool on their site to help you select the right polisher. Answer some questions and it gives you a suggested listing with grades (surface safe, use for compounding, polishing, etc.).
They actually look different from each other and most polishers sound like this. They may very well have the same internals being they are both made in china.

How was its performance and sound level after removing the original grease and properly applying the new grease actually on the gears?
I think put a 3inch baking plate and have a 3inch buffer
I tested it and Griots 3 inch backing plate off the G8 fits it

No the pad wouldn’t change sound of the motor.
How did the new grease affect it? Any change?
Made it run a little bit smoother but didn’t seem to change the noise level.

It was the thin metal the hood is made out of it flexes so easy.
Those pads look like they would work on my cordless Vevor polisher machine too. Not that I use it much.
I just picked up a bargain at harbor freight for 40 bucks(sale) a short throw Bauer was impressed, not bad for a diyer machine

I made my own...lol. I couldn't find a six inch where you could use the foam pad, so I made my own and it works gteat.
I’ve never seen any polisher that is pad specific. Every 6 inch polisher I have used uses a pad be it wool, microfiber or foam.
@FABAutomotiveDetailing The velcro pads, bro. Most six inch have the bonnets.
@@stangedude5646 A long time ago they did but all polishers from the last 15-20 years are Velcro. I have a 6 inch Griots Garage Polisher from 2005 that is Velcro.

I think that's true except for the pads ($7 ea; sold separately)
@billcrisp1804 comes with 1 pad, but even the other pads sold separately are cheaper (better?) than the Harbor Freight pads lol

How about the WM pads on a more expensive DA Polisher? I usually use Lake Country, but needed some pads the other day and needed some, so I went and bought the WM versions.
They would work just fine on other polishers. They are well made pads
Just picked one up in San antonio for $35 and $3.50 for pads. Odd one walmart had it on clearance and others didn’t.
So here’s the kicker, this or harbor freight, either the 8mm or the 20mm. The 8mm is less than 40 right now and the 20mm has gotten down to $50 before. Pads honestly look great though.
HF has a pretty neat tool on their site to help you select the right polisher. Answer some questions and it gives you a suggested listing with grades (surface safe, use for compounding, polishing, etc.).
Suggestions regarding washing the pads ?

Thanks for the review, but I bet the problem comes about an hour into using this polisher when it gets too hot because it's under-powered.

Looks and sounds like the Harbor Freight Bauer polisher I paid 39.99 on sale.
They actually look different from each other and most polishers sound like this. They may very well have the same internals being they are both made in china.
I would love to get one of these polishers. I paid way to much for a polisher from Chemical Guys and it bogs down alot.
