  • Several people have been asking more about ciguatera lately, so I decided to post about my experience having had it twice. Check out these links that I referred to in the video to find out even more.

    I’ve experienced this.. right before covid happened I got it from Eel that I had in my sushi. After only a few hours I had abdominal pain, vomiting every 20 mins, and diarrhea uncontrollably when I vomited. I was brought to the hospital after 6 hours of gastrointestinal issues for fluids due to dehydration. When I got there I was very dizzy, I had blurred vision, and my heart rate was 160 bpm. I was brought into ICU and remained there for 3 days. No one knew what was happening to me until I finally got better and they started asking me what I had eaten before this happened. They finally discovered it was Ciguatera. This was the worst experience of my life. I still have not eaten sushi or seafood since.

      Don't blame you at all for not eating seafood after that. At least you can still enjoy lake fish, if you're over your taste aversion to fish yet....

      Hmm the vomiting is not really characteristic for this kind of poisoning were they sure?

    I always eat my roi especially from the east side of Big Island. The ciguatera test kits were never worth the money they cost due to the short shelf life. For me I was taught to put the fish out while you clean and filet your other fish. If flies land on the fish/any part of the meat or guts then the fish does not have cig. If the flies hover but do not land on the fish then it’s because the flies sense the toxins and won’t land on the fish. A practice that has never failed me. Every island culture from the South Pacific, PAC Rim, and Caribbean use this method. 🤙🏽

    I have had ciguatera for 2.5 years. I just finished a 14-day water fast in hopes of ridding my body of the toxin. Unfortunately within 5 days of re-feeding, all of my symptoms returned. I guess a master cleanse is my next step! Thank you for the video

    • @PositivelyFly
      @PositivelyFly หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@isaiahmcavoy4295 Good morning, I was actually pretty apprehensive to try it considering one of my main trigger foods is seeds. I have steered clear of spices including cayenne because it will set off a neurological response. I have done more fasting since I typed that initial comment, all just water with electrolytes. 7 day, 5 day, and about 12 weeks where I would fast 3 days every week. My symptoms have drastically improved over the 3.5 years since getting ciguatera yet alcohol, soy, nuts,seeds, caffeine stress, and too much sun will still set me off. I have tried salmon and tuna recently and the side effects were manageable. Fingers crossed, I have not been hospitalized for an episode since August 2023. I am more than welcome to share any of my ciguatera experience in the effort to educate and potentially help someone struggling with such a debilitating neurotoxin.

    I use to test my Ulua all the time when they had test kits available. The funny thing is you talked about feeding it to the cat. I tested a 30# Ulua caught in kaaawa and the test came out really high and I tried feeding it to some stray cats near my home and they didn’t even touch it lol

    Haven't been aware about ciguatera til I watched a japanese TH-camr getting rid of fish liver sure to risk of ciguatera. I've been eating fish livers all my life luckily i haven't got one. Probably depends on the fish.
