  • UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission launched a Global HAB Status Report (GHSR) on 8 June 2021. This unprecedented seven-year study by 109 scientists in 35 countries says reported HAB events have increased in some regions, decreased or held steady elsewhere, and provides the world's first baseline against which to track future changes. Here we present a GHSR synthesis and regional overviews of HAB occurrences and trends from 1985 to 2018.
Find out more about GHSR synthesis: “Perceived global increase in algal blooms is attributable to intensified monitoring and emerging bloom impacts,” published in the Nature journal Communications Earth & Environment, released on 8 June 2021 (www.nature.com...)
