Andy, dig your car and the improvements you’ve made. As a 45 year owner of a mostly stock 68 Fastback deluxe, this particular modification has me conflicted. It looks, we’ll…let’s say “different.” But I’m an old school guy.🤣
Haha, yeah, it's not for everyone. I'm not super wild about mixing parts on the car, but considering how far it is from its true form, it's not "hurting" the car with all the aftermarket and different brand parts. I had the spoiler that is "supposed" to go on these cars on my last car and I wasn't wild about how it looked. :)
I love the look of the front spoiler. Makes it look a lot more aggressive and fits the style of your car. I did the same thing and just installed one on my 68 mustang a few weeks ago but there is a tiny gap in the corners where it goes back towards the tires. Ill just have to take a heat gun to it. Great job once again!
Perfect video thank you. I've had one of these sitting in my garage for a couple months now that I've been debating on installing, now I think it's time.
I think it suits your car Andy. A Shelby valance would also look good and would be in keeping with your theme. It would need to be painted but you could fix the stripes up in the process. Just a thought.
I love the spoiler. It gives the car a much more aggressive look. I would definitely figure out the support bracket situation before getting the car up to speed. I would also suggest keeping it a flat black color. It offers a nice contrast and aggressive appearance.
Love your videos! Spoiler looks great! Got a 68 coupe in doing a restomod on. Not gonna lie I'm totally green to the mustang world and your videos have helped me a ton! Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Awesome, it's ,y favorite part to hear that somebody somewhere is able to use something from my videos to help with their project. You'll have to make a few videos and post them so we can see the progress! :)
Thanks for the great video, as usual. Personally I think the early Mustangs look better without a front spoiler, but on the later models (67-70), it looks better with a front spoiler. Just my two cents.
No problem, I appreciate the feedback. I agree, I've seen a handful of '65-'66 cars that look perfect without the spoiler, and some that would look worse without it. :)
Awesome, go for it, hopefully these videos will be enough to help you through the build. I'm on the fence about the wheels as I think I rather have the 15" version. Partially because the 15" wheels come with a better backspacing, but also I feel like these cars tend to look better with a meatier tire in there vs a rubberband. But everyone has their preference. :)
Andy--gotta say it is SO fun to watch your videos. Keep up the good work. Been a Mustanger for years. Love your car-great taste. '67 FB are so stinking popular (and I like 'em) but the 5-6 FB are still my favorite. On early cars I have always loved a naked(no bumper guards), perfectly straight, lower valance-always worth ordering new to get it perfect. They have a lot of shape and character alone. I never liked the stupid lower flange/lip, especially on lighter colored cars or when its folded/bent--I like semi-gloss or flat black used on the rocker pinch welds. Makes it "shadow" into/under the car that way. CJPP has a '67-'68 spoiler and only about 3 out of 15 reviewers were smart enough to make it fit. Judicious use of a heat gun works wonders. I will order one for my '67 convertible and accept the heat gun challenge. I would tend to run without it on your year of car, but I do like it! I wonder if the heat gun could iron out the Camaro bumps! I agree with your comments, doesn't always help a car, but it is subtle enough on yours to look good. Next Mods: LED headlights-not the goofy ones-halo's, or Jeep style. Your car is dang nice--5 speed, traction-lok, discs, period wheels and decent paint. I don't know what else: AC? Old Air or Vintage Air. EFI maybe, but a good 4 barrel is great too and fits the vintage flavor of your car. BTW, love radio delete and the proper steering wheel-nice--I always like spending money there! Detail the engine bay? Holman Moody valve covers or just Cobra or I like the Slant Edge style. Holley and Edelbrock have some nice vintage style oval air cleaners. Dynamat is a good mod too. Carry on!
Thanks! It's always great to get some feedback from the other side of the fence. :) I like the Shelby lower valence on these cars, and I'm tempted to do it when I get a chance to paint the car. But motor work is the next big money suck that I'm working on. That 289 is tired and the bearings are near shot. I can drive it, but you can tell it's time for some work. I was tempted to just throw in some bearings until the motor gets done, but I'd rather put the money towards the build, and there's that risk of screwing it up and then I won't be able to enjoy it this summer. :)
Great job... Good eye when shopping for the perfect front spoiler! It really completes the look in an extremely cool way. You're right, I'd find a way to strengthen it for high speeds. Might use 5 points instead of just 2 or 3 to make it super stout. Looks fucking AMAZING, dude. 👏😎👍
Looks Awesome !! I'm not a big fan of the spoiler built for the Mustang. The angle is wrong but the Chevrolet version for the Camaro is the right angle. Nice job
I purchased it off Ebay, just search 1969 Camaro Front Spoiler and you will find one. Yes, I plan to do a follow up video, where I show the rod installation location, as well as a few other things I need to update on. But for now, the rods easily fit when attached to the mounting location on the spoiler and the frame of the car. I felt a little silly once I got them done, I could have easily figured that out if I would have put a little more effort into it. :)
Are you going to have a followup video with how you installed the braces? Or maybe a post on VMF? You have the perfect excuse to replace that valance for the Shelby one. Also I think because you have a white car the spoiler stands out more, I bet that spoiler would look great on a black car.
I've been thinking about just doing a follow up video to cover several things I've either changed, figured out, or had issues with after the video was done. What I should have done with this video was just film a short update and redo compile the video and re-upload it since I did this a month ago, I had plenty of time to do that. So, that follow up video will probably be the easiest way now. :)
Hey, that looks pretty sharp! I have a 65 tribute just recently done with the GT350R front valance. I’m thinking about it. Again, well done. You know, for a quick cheep fix Regarding the stripes on the lower valance. You can paint the whole balance in the spoiler in same color, example; the famous Charlie Kemp 65 R Model had Orange for the valance and spoiler. It definitely looks killer that way. If you don’t know which car I’m talking about, look it up and you’ll see. Thank you for making the video.
Those supports looked nice. It's a shame they didn't have anywhere to mount. My front spoiler has a bit of a droopy nose. I'm guessing it's a mixture of driving at speed pushing it down as well as heat causing it to deform. It's one of things, like you mentioned, that no one else but me will notice.
I was able to make the support rods work after I was done with the video. I filmed this over a month ago and the Spoiler still looks great. I'm glad I was able to get those supports to work or I bet it would do exactly what you're describing.
I like it, I installed the Dynacorn spoiler for the 66 Mustang. I love the way it looks from the front, but from the side not so much. Debating on going to this style spoiler in the future. How far does it stick down from the bottom of the valance? That may be my deciding factor comparing it to the Dynacorn spoiler.
The spoiler is about 3-3/4 inches tall, fairly uniform in height across its whole length. The tip of the spoiler goes forward about 1-1/2 inches from where it is mounted. :)
Looks good on a Fastback. Question: what wheels are those please? I think I have the same on my 67 Coupe but have spacers on them and having issues. Not so easy to get parts here in the UK to solve it.
Really enjoy your videos man! Good to see another WA guy wrenching on his mustang as well. You've done so many of the same things I'm working on with my car (5spd swap, QuickPerformance rearend, etc) Up here in the Bellingham area, which part of the state are you in? It'd be awesome to see your car in person at a show sometime!
Thanks! I'm on the other side of the state. I don't think this car is good enough to go to car shows, it looks good from 10 feet away, but not as great up close. :)
Thanks! I have the same chin spoiler you had on your coupe but I'm thinking about switching to this one. Love how it looks! Keep it. Now I'll see if this will fit my shelby front valance.
Thanks! No issues. I filmed this over a month and I was able to make the support rods work right after I was done filming. It still looks brand new! :)
Probably. I had one on my last Mustang and I think I'd go the same route here. I just wish it was easier to put wider Rads in there, the skinny ones available for these cars make it difficult to do a dual fan setup. :)
American Racing Torq Thrust II, sized 16x7, all four with 4" backspacing (which is the same as 0mm offset), 5x4.5" bolt pattern, and the part number is VN2156765. Falken Azenis RT615K+, sized 225/50/16, all four.
What will tear? I was able to put the support rods behind the lip, I figured it out after making the video, it was easier than I thought it would be. :)

Thanks for doing this video. And taking a step by step approach and explaining the process.
Big help to ones of us who are somewhat intimidated.
Love it! And what a stance you have! She is really coming along. Thanks for sharing Andy.
Thanks 👍
Love it! Gives it a more aggressive look. Front spoiler + hood scoop +fastback =😍
Thanks!!

Yeah, I'd like to do the Shelby front end, and redo the paint at the same time. The whole car needs it. :)
I love the spoiler. It gives the car a much more aggressive look. I would definitely figure out the support bracket situation before getting the car up to speed. I would also suggest keeping it a flat black color. It offers a nice contrast and aggressive appearance.
I was able to get those supports on the spoiler right after I finished the video. It’s all good now. 😁

I have the same spoiler on my 66 mustang fastback and I love it
Brothers!
Damint Andy! I seriously love your build. I'm pretty much gonna have to copy yours..lol. I'm even going to probably do the same wheel/tire combo.
I like the look, Andy. I'd keep it flat black if it were on my vehicle. Good job!
Agreed, I think the black is the way to go. :)
Mustangs with spoilers are the best!
I like your thinking!!

I’m getting my 64-1/2 from paint next week and I am up in NW Washington north of Everett area. Maybe I’ll see you out cruising sometime
I bet that paint will look fantastic!

Honestly I think it looks ok; I don’t hate it, but probably wouldn’t leave it on. Roll with it for the summer and see how it goes / if you like it
Yeah, good plan. Roll with it for a while and see how things pan out. :)

Just found the answer on a previous video. Keep up the good work!
They're American Racing Torq Thrust II, 16x7, 0.0" Backspacing, part number VN2156765. :)
Oh, I just saw this reply, no big deal, now you have the info twice. :)
I dig it!

Will this fit 66 mustang shelby style front valance? Looking good!
Good question, I'd like to know too as I'd like to do that lower on my car.

What wheels and tires are on that car? With offset and back spacing please?
American Racing Torq Thrust II, sized 16x7, all four with 4" backspacing (which is the same as 0mm offset), 5x4.5" bolt pattern, and the part number is VN2156765.
Falken Azenis RT615K+, sized 225/50/16, all four.

Not bad at all
Thanks!! :)
It will probably tear over time.
What will tear? I was able to put the support rods behind the lip, I figured it out after making the video, it was easier than I thought it would be. :)
Good choice. Leave it black.
I agree.
Is that spoiler paintable ?
Yes, you can paint it. You'll want some kind of adhesion promoter on first, then whatever color you'd like goes on next. :)
Too much for me. The front spoiler really only works on a gt350 front valance.
Yeah, it's not for everyone. :)
Andy I've heard of everything now. Why would you install Chevy parts on a ford. Get ford parts dude
It's not about putting the competitor parts on the car, it's about getting the car exactly how you want it. :)
I think it looks good
Thanks. :)
