Very well done sir 👍🏻 recently did this on my 66 coupe except I had to do a little more modification because I’m using Granada outers. One thing I would HIGHLY recommend would be one of the roller bearing style idler arms from open tracker racing. It’s been a complete game changer on my car. Keep up the great content!
@@swooshdave I was thinking that too, but the bar bent towards the front of the car, not up towards the oil pan. It looks more like it got caught on something and a previous owner tried to back off of it and bent the bar.
This channel deserves over a mil subs, easy...You've boosted my confidence 10 fold to work on my 67 fastback for the suspension and rear end. The only thing I'm still sketchy on is brakes lol
I noticed you jacked up the car from the front. Where did you place the trolley jack when lifting ? Where did you place the jack stands? Another excellent presentation
Thanks! When lifting from the front, I use the crossmember bar under the oil pan. When placing the front of the car on jack stands, I put that at the frame rails that run under the floor board.
Andy , It's very easy to do your own toe in and out alignment . There are a ton of videos on TH-cam on how to do it ! Save your money and do it your self !
Yeah, I did it after the video. I have some of those alignment plates so a single person can do the work. I'm just not sure I know enough to make a video about it. :)
I just finished converting my 67 Fastback from power steering to manual steering. Changed out the pitman & idler arms too.. your car is way too clean.. lol
When it came to the nuts for the tie rods where they came through the center link, were they bottoming out and leaving too much gap between the nut and the cotter pin, or was the stud coming to far through the link and the nut was bottom out on the stud? I've seen some issues about the nuts being too short and folks reusing the old ones because they are taller.
The first scenario you described. I don't recall if the other castle nuts were taller, so that might have helped if I would have kept them. The washers do the trick, but I feel icky for doing it. Someone mentioned that it was a product of buying cheap Chinese parts. Maybe, but hopefully the video will help anyone down stream, and they can make the decision to buy the same kit or not. :)
Not sure, but my steering was never great since I bought the car. But after the swap, the steering is now fantastic. Those ball joints were done, they needed to be replaced. 😀
@@jordanschultz2232 I'm not comfortable putting together a video on how to do an alignment. It's fairly simple, and I've done my own, but that's one topic I'm not wild about doing.
I bought that kit too and ended up not using it. That kit kinda looked like a mix of V8 and 6 cyl steering parts. I got a refund and went to my local auto parts store and bought all Moog parts. Everything was smaller in that kit even the diameter of the center link. I liked the larger tie rod studs and nuts. Didn't you find you had to use a smaller wrench on the new parts?
I wasn't laughing at the struggle with the Cotter pins too much....... friggin pins lol
Careful editing made it look easier than it was. 😆

Torque your tie rods to minimal settings to seat them then back off your nuts to cotter pin hole.
Got the radio block off plate, thanks Andy for your help, Mike.
Awesome! :)
Nice work as always. Man that previous bar was bent! I can only imagine how badly it was driving.
Yes it was! The worst part were the ball joints, they were done. Steering now is so much better. :)
I suspect someone jacked up the car by the center link.

Great job Andy, updating my front suspension and thought I would knock this out while I’m under there. Thanks
Thanks!
every time I watch one of your videos it makes me want a set of those ratcheting wrenches.
They're a "must have" item, I was just using one yesterday. :)

I won't argue with that! But it's always great to hear that my videos are helping people out there. :)
Excellent Andy! ;)
Thanks!

Almost electric power steering install. lol I agree with roller bearing style idler arms from open tracker racing. I did that also.
I was hoping for some credit since it's steering related. :)
@@AndyKruseChannel credit is given.😊

O'Reilly has a tie rod tool #67008 that works great on removing the inner and outer tie rods.
Yeah, it's great that they rent out the tools that most people don't have. :)

Good job sir.
Thanks
When you buy a cheaper product you will have to add washers to the center link just a quick note
Thanks for the heads up.
@@AndyKruseChannel Also if you were running that vehicle through a tech they will ding you on the washers just a little FYI
perhaps you can do a video of power steering install? electric or the Borgeson? =P
Can't, car's at paint right now. :)

Wow what a bend! Thoughts on how that happened? How were those original grease joints on your old tie rods?
Not sure, but my steering was never great since I bought the car. But after the swap, the steering is now fantastic. Those ball joints were done, they needed to be replaced. 😀
@@AndyKruseChannel happy to hear it! I was waiting for the diy alignment lesson but I guess I'll have to figure that out on my own.

Have you looked at RRS Rack and Pinion and Struts. What is your opinion on them?
I like all of there stuff, I just can’t afford it. I wish other companies would offer that strut option. 😀
Nice work. Crazy how that bar was bent. Also I like those adjuster sleeves, where did you get them from?
Thanks!
That was a complete kit from CJ Pony Parts (part number in description).
@@AndyKruseChannel ok cool, appreciate it.
I noticed the new joints don't press in, is that a new style linkage?
Not sure about if this is a new style or not, but you are correct, I didn't need to press anything in. :)
I looked this part up 6566SLK-V8 and it states it’s specific to the cpp steering box, did you have the original box and it still worked?
Installed with no problems and everything has been awesome since. Stock steering box. 😁

I didn't pay much attention to the tools sizes during the install.
what was the torque on the nuts?
I don’t recall, it’s been a while since I did this install. 🙂
What starter is that?
It's a PowerMaster XS Torque 9503, I made a video on it, you should check it out! :)
