A brush review video on synthetic brushes alternatives for those who prefer using synthetics, a collaboration/co-op review with Pursebuzz. www.coastalscen... Pursebuzz Review: • Video
hey beans - I like the flat one for powder foundation, cuz it really pack on the products and then buff it out and blend. The round one is great for skin finishes, bronzers, and just over all powdering.
hey Jen - depending on what you will be using it for. The 187 is a wider brush, great for powders, skin finishing, foundation application. The 188 is the baby version, great for applying blush, contour powders, for narrower parts of the face.
yes, i use synthetic only on any cream products, whether foundation, blush, or eyeshadows. You dont want natural bristles on creams, so this is where synthetics comes in great help.
hey TQ - yes there are a lot of brushes. I suggest start with the ones you use daily or often - like foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. And then just base that on the brushes I showed in my coastal scents videos. (there a couple more on pink series).
hey sunny - I love the Italian Badger Kabuki! Depending on the use, you will get more coverage on the flat-tops as they are more dense. If you just want light to buildable converage then a regular kabuki is great.
hey heidis - it is just as soft. The ultimate is bigger, more powder brush sized. The short handle is more like a blush size - but nothing really that great of a size difference.
oh yes fts! definitely the italian badger kabuki. Its super nice. I wouldnt use natural fibers on cream foundations tho - so look into the SYNTHETIC Kabuki for that if you like using buffer brushes for your cream foundation.
yeah - the old palette in my previous intro vids was fished out of the internet, so being PARTNER I can no longer use it. So I took a picture of my palette, so that way I have rights to the picture.
yes, more noticeable on cream products. Theyre definitely great for creams. The larger brushes picks up powders good, and the shoadow brush is actually dense enough to pick up powder shadows. I ont know if they sell the jackets, you might want to email them and inquire.
hey orozcoe - actually most Mineral companies out there sells brushes that are mostly synthetics. I guess its also a matter of preference. I prefer naturals on powders. For mineral makeup, you will get more coverage if you use the flat top - the density will pack on makeup with less ease.
hey tobi - its really great for cream concealers. definitely check it out if youre looking for a good concealer brush. It works great on eyeshadow primers too.
hey bella - for the prices of the badgers, they are definitely worth checking out and trying. Much to my own surprise, I am actually liking them. MAC will be around a while and Im sure there will be new brushes there in the future.
he mailodie - you can apply conrouring powder to the jawline, chin and forehead - that will give the illusion of shorter face. Dont contour your cheeks, that will make your face narrower looking.
the hairs are shaven, so the animals are not killed to make brushes. Much like shaving wool from sheeps. Most common natural bristles are Goat Hair, Camel Hair, Squirrel, Badger.
hey niky - i heard from those who ordered from Canada that the best shipping is to select the First Class International. They ship by weight too, so depends on how much stuff you ordered. Any way, try selecting that shipping option and see how much difference it would be.
hey eri - you can do quick clean every other day, or every use. then just do a deep clean once a week. I have videos on quick cleaning and deep cleaning brushes. Look it up and i hope that helps.
hey kastutz - you willd efinitely need a skin primer to help your mu stay longer on your skin. Specially heat and humidity. Check out Prep & Prime skin or smashbox phot finish primer.
hey anyara - I havent seen a dupe for the MAC 180 - I guess its really just that door-knob handle that makes it unique. Otherwise, its really just a flat top buffer brush. I have a video on Domed bs Flat top - and the diff mainly is the coverage you want. Flat top packs on color with less ease, Domed you can start light, then build to fuller coverage.
I tried Coastal Scents synthetics last year after watching this video. I have to admit I love Coastal scent's syn brushes. I don't like their customer services but CS products are worth the hassle.
I got the angeled brush it broke even befor I got to use it,broke after washing it and laying it flat.I still love it it makes contouring easy. The company never explained why they could not replace it,coastal scents is usualy excellent with their customer service,so I"m not sure what was going on.
one of my best friends/colleague uses all Body Shop brushes and she swears by them. The problem I have is the shape of the handle. It WIDENS towards the end, and half of the brushes doesnt fit in my Brush Belt orBrush roll because of the wide base.
hey Korisuisho - what kind of foundation do you use? If you're a liquid user, go for the stippler. If you use cream, go for the synthetic Foundation brush - also the matching concealer brush is nice.
Thanks Koren! I will sure try them (I was trying to find Prep+Prime here, but there was out of stock at nearest MAC). You seem to be a cool person to hang around! See ya, hugs
there is some difference. From my experience, synthetic ones are non-shed. soft, and don't pack up with lots of products. natural hair ones shed, because natural hair is easy to get damaged and break, they aren't that soft either. and they also eat up a lot of product. I have always been using synthetic ones, they aren't cheap either.
hi enkore, i m from malaysia and i received my order from coastalscents within 12 days. i had to say it's sooo worth the price except some of the pink brush , it's smooth, but not as goods as the italian brush.
Critique: I like your old intro music a lot better, this sounds like a music soundtrack from an 80's movie...Shoo-Be-do-Shoo-Bee-Do Wah...Bring that back!!! P.S. your vids are good. Excellent make up artist.
KOREN!!! I just created a TH-cam account to be able to talk to you! I am sooooo in love with you and your videos! I've already done the Brush Stand, the blush stand, mixing medium... I also pressed some shadows... aaaand I ordered the pink brushes (well I loved them all!!!). I have a lot of questions, but this is the most important: I live in a place that is really warm (Brazil) and due to a medical treatment I've been sweating a loooot. (continue)
Wow those look identical to my sephora anti-bacterial brushes. :0 i'm just glad i didn't purchase it [my sister found them] cuz one of the sephora ones are $32 just for a brush and this is so much cheaper- i'm def. going to get the flat buffer kabuki brush.
for powder i would use natural hair. i use synthetic for my liquid foundations because it doesn't soak up the liquid. but i love natural hair for powder :]
Hey Koren, um their similar to the kabuki brushes but flat on the top, you where reviewing them and you called them "wide buffer brushes or flat top buffer brushes" i suppose, their like 14.95 like you said, but i just cant seem to find them around. At 3.25 you are talking about them. I absolutely love them, and i want to buy one.
I was just wondering what you think are the most essential brushes to own if your just starting to get into makeup? I really liked the way you explained what a good brush should do but I'm still working on trying to build the right collection.
I'm trying to decide between the synthetic buffer brush or the italian badger buffer brush for full coverage mineral makeup application. I didn't see you use the synthetic on your face much here, but which one would you think is better for this purpose? Thanks Koren, your videos are wonderful!
Thank you for this video, it was wonderful as are all yours! Do you have a rec for a coastal scents brush that is like the now discontinued MAC 180 brush? Also, what real difference does it make having a domed vs. a flat-top biffer/kabuki brush? Thank you! Amy
I love love ur videos, they helped me so much :-) I'm a newbie, so I'm not too familiar with costalscents, after watching several of ur videos, I was just wondering is the Italian badger series softer or is the synthetic series softer (powder n buffer brush wise) thank you :-)
Hey Koren. do you think you could do a video on what the brushes are for as im new to makeup and just bought 18 brushes and i have no idea what the uses are for.. thanks alot :)
Hi EnKore! I watched your videos and have a burning question to ask. I am into mineral makeup which is often in loose form and wonder which is the most ideal brush bristles to use - Synthetic or Natural?
Hi Koren...all of your video's are so informative and you are very knowledgeable...i have a question and would love your advice...im not much of a makeup person. i recently got interested because of a girlfriend of mine. Anyway, i really just want some everyday coverage. I have 2 kids and i have to get them ready and then hardly have time to get myself ready..so what i am asking...what would you recommend as far as what i should use everyday..i just want to look cute while wiping babybutt LOL
If you're going for natural fiber, what type of fur do you recommend? I've heard badger fur is pretty potent but I don't know how valid that information is.
I can't find the Foundation brush u show...the badger looking one @ 4:12...I assume its coastal Scents...yet i can't find that one...All i see 2 of them...and the bristles are orange like..on the one..And the other is Synthetic Concealer Shading brush...which i assume is much smaller than that one...It looks similar.. Can u please answer this..and tell me where the Foundation one is please at CS Thx!~
hey beans - I like the flat one for powder foundation, cuz it really pack on the products and then buff it out and blend.
You definitely can! Just play with the application until you get the finish you like.
yes, i use synthetic only on any cream products, whether foundation, blush, or eyeshadows.
(there a couple more on pink series).

hey tobi - its really great for cream concealers. definitely check it out if youre looking for a good concealer brush. It works great on eyeshadow primers too.
I'm aging myself here...Your intro music kinda reminds me of Spandau Ballet's "Gold" song back in the day. Love it and love the vid!
hey bella - for the prices of the badgers, they are definitely worth checking out and trying.
Hey Koren, you and pursebuzz what a great colab. tuts on syntethic brushes... thank you both...¡¡
hey tobi - yeah definitely! oh, your sister will be thrilled.
the hairs are shaven, so the animals are not killed to make brushes. Much like shaving wool from sheeps. Most common natural bristles are Goat Hair, Camel Hair, Squirrel, Badger.
thank you for the review of the synthetic brushes.
and please bring back your previous theme music. i loved that tune!
hey niky - i heard from those who ordered from Canada that the best shipping is to select the First Class International. They ship by weight too, so depends on how much stuff you ordered. Any way, try selecting that shipping option and see how much difference it would be.
hey sunny - check out the Badger brushes, theyre nice and soft and firm. If you like the pinks, check them out too.
hey jnny - the flat-tops are definitely much denser, so the splay is not as much as the regular buffer.
hey eri - you can do quick clean every other day, or every use. then just do a deep clean once a week.
I MISS THE OLD INTRO/OUTRO!!!
i still love you enkore :)
I think you are awesome Koren! Thank you for this video because I just never consider these brushes except to put on paint pot.
Thank you for such a quick reply! I'm sorry I didn't see your video before I asked, I'm off to search for it now! Thanks again :)
hey Lice - I believe you can select the USPS Priority International for cheaper. I think thats what peeps in Europe pick. It takes like a week.
hey anyara - I havent seen a dupe for the MAC 180 - I guess its really just that door-knob handle that makes it unique. Otherwise, its really just a flat top buffer brush. I have a video on Domed bs Flat top - and the diff mainly is the coverage you want. Flat top packs on color with less ease, Domed you can start light, then build to fuller coverage.
I love synthetic makeup brushes! Especially the Eco Tools!
hey HLP -usually they are pretty fast. You might want to email them and ask for an update, or just check status on your order.
yes, i fyou can and have time, wash you foundation brush every use, if any brush that needs to be washed often, it would be the foundation brush.
CUTE!!! YOu and Pursebuzz are both wearing Pink with hair accessories in your hair!! Totally synced
I loved the opening of this video! You are awesome enkore! :)
yes, definitely
Brilliant review Koren! You really know how to get us to save our money ;D
Thanks for all you do...you're great!
Hugs from London ♥
they are actually pretty good. Mostly mineralized.
I tried Coastal Scents synthetics last year after watching this video. I have to admit I love Coastal scent's syn brushes. I don't like their customer services but CS products are worth the hassle.
The softest, most luxurious brushes I've used are synthetic. I'm crazy for Too Faced and Sephora's synthetic platinum line.
I like your new theme music! Good job!
hey Kristcz - its actually super soft.
hey linhie - the one I used here is the Synthetic one - it says NEW i think next to it.
you can use regular powder face brush for those
I got the angeled brush it broke even befor I got to use it,broke after washing it and laying it flat.I still love it it makes contouring easy. The company never explained why they could not replace it,coastal scents is usualy excellent with their customer service,so I"m not sure what was going on.
thats a good toss up, i think theyre pretty much the same. Not sure if Crown ships worldwide.
yes, i find synthetic picks up less powder products.
I like your old music better!
Still loving your videos!
Oh! hahah ok - all these brushes are available at coastalscents (dot) com. In their brushes page.
hey Grashi - go for the Badger if natural fiber is not an issue.
xD I just love the intro where he's brushing the air ahahah
one of my best friends/colleague uses all Body Shop brushes and she swears by them. The problem I have is the shape of the handle. It WIDENS towards the end, and half of the brushes doesnt fit in my Brush Belt orBrush roll because of the wide base.
oh my goodness, I just bought/received the eye shadow palette that pursebuzz recommended and its the same palette in your intro! very interesting :-)
Your videos are very helpful and informative, thanks!
hey Korisuisho - what kind of foundation do you use? If you're a liquid user, go for the stippler. If you use cream, go for the synthetic Foundation brush - also the matching concealer brush is nice.
Thanks Koren! I will sure try them (I was trying to find Prep+Prime here, but there was out of stock at nearest MAC).
You seem to be a cool person to hang around!
See ya, hugs

Everyday Minerals also makes some great synthetic brushes, and they're even cheaper, but still high quality.
hey NNFecsH - I dont know, you might wanna email CoastalScents and ask.
go for the 15-piece
KOREN!!! I just created a TH-cam account to be able to talk to you!
I am sooooo in love with you and your videos!

Koren--you look great in PINK!!!
hi Julia! yeay! You and Sandra better hang when Im there. Hahaha - say hi to her for me - hugs to you both.
hey Zhan - somehow, the 15-piece is better.
Wow those look identical to my sephora anti-bacterial brushes. :0 i'm just glad i didn't purchase it [my sister found them] cuz one of the sephora ones are $32 just for a brush and this is so much cheaper- i'm def. going to get the flat buffer kabuki brush.

Great video as alway's Love it
Hey Koren, um their similar to the kabuki brushes but flat on the top, you where reviewing them and you called them "wide buffer brushes or flat top buffer brushes" i suppose, their like 14.95 like you said, but i just cant seem to find them around. hey Rock- Probably either Goat Hair or Badger.
Thank You :) love your personality
Do you notice a difference in the amount of product they pick up? Can you buy the brush "jackets" seperate?
oh yeah, do you think you can do a tutorial on it? i'm kind of confused at the part when you said chin and forehead =P
OMG i'm subscribing! You are a miracle!!!
One thing I've been confused about, are badger brushes made from real badger hair? Or is it just a name?
synthetic if u buff in hard , natural if ure light and gentle
nice review enKore. Do you know where the brushes were manufactured?
Thank you for this video, it was wonderful as are all yours! Do you have a rec for a coastal scents brush that is like the now discontinued MAC 180 brush?
Also, what real difference does it make having a domed vs. a flat-top biffer/kabuki brush?
Thank you!
Amy
wow i cant believe he was able to say badger bristled brushes the first time;D
He replaced it with some of his own original music do to the risk of copyright violations.
I love love ur videos, they helped me so much :-) I'm a newbie, so I'm not too familiar with costalscents, after watching several of ur videos, I was just wondering is the Italian badger series softer or is the synthetic series softer (powder n buffer brush wise) thank you :-)
i learned a lot from you! thanks.
i got 6 brushes for 2.99.and they work just fine
Hey Koren.
do you think you could do a video on what the brushes are for as im new to makeup and just bought 18 brushes and i have no idea what the uses are for..
thanks alot :)
Hi EnKore!
I watched your videos and have a burning question to ask. I am into mineral makeup which is often in loose form and wonder which is the most ideal brush bristles to use - Synthetic or Natural?

Koren, you're the bomb, but this new theme song lacks luster:o).
I can't find the Ultimate Powder one either...:S
Do you have any other ideas for more of a cheaper aproach to synthetic brushes that i can buy in drug stores?
they have 2 similiar kabuki brush does one say synthetic n the other i think its a ultimate italian badger
