*theScore* *esports* How much research did the production crew or whoever do before they put this together? How did they miss a huge chunk of Justin's history and his time with Empire Arcadia?
Justin is truly a pure soul...I started a donation drive for my mom's medical bills due to cancer treatment/surgery and he heard about it and made a generous donation along with others to help my struggling family with this daunting task ...thank you Justin
Yea back then when it first surfaced online, ppl were showing their friends who didn't even care for FGC...That video really did usher in the new age for Fighting Games
I didn't even need context about the parry before I saw it. Like, I knew nothing about fighting games, and then a friend of mine showed me a clip of the Daigo parry, and holy fuck... holy fucking shit. That was insane.
I have so much respect for this guy, and I’ve never even played Street Fighter or Marvel vs Capcom. He was the son of immigrants, never met his mom, had a busy dad, and raised by his grandma. He worked for himself as a kid/teen, went to school, has a great work ethic, and still managed to play at an arcade and become a god. He literally worked a full time job at NVIDIA of all places and still traveled to tournaments? At that point, he could have taken a risk and quit his job earlier, but didn’t for a long time. I’m sure that after he retires he will get another amazing job and a great life. +10000000 respect to Justin
That's it! Now that marvel is over, Justin can't win any other tournaments now. He's not even on the same levels as xian or infiltration. Imagine if evo took street fighter games more serious back in the old days.
This video didn't explain how Chris G was basically dominating the MvC3 scene at that time and how big the impact of Justin's win really was during that tournament. Oh good times. I really miss MvC3 and it's pretty bad that the replacement to it (MVCI) was the worst thing that ever happened to the series. I like DBFZ and it's good to me that it will take up MvC's spot this generation but there's really something about the randomness and the hype factor behind MvC3 that makes it fun watching even vs MvC2.
I was rooting for Chris G, buy I love Justin too. I think it was great how that GF was between the two best players, and neither of them are execution Gods. Neither of them can really land TAC infinites like basically every other top player can, and neither of them do the most optimal combos with their characters (except maybe Chris's Morrigan). Yet they win because their fundamentals and defense are so great.
Justin’s playstyle in MvC2 reminds me of hungrybox from melee. They both played slowly and campy and its effective while making ridiculously big comebacks and it gave them both a title which is “The Wong Factor” and “Clutchbox”.
14:10 James Chen - "A lot of the games out there, their scene is like, 'if Justin doesn't play it people don't think it's important'" Haha thats kinda true.
Which arcade? If you mean china town fair, it closed down about a decade ago, a different style of arcade opened there. Basically china town fair became The Next Level in Brooklyn.
Jwong is truly one of the GOATs of the FGC and his drive to compete, and his mental fortitude to grow paid off. He's a big reason why many of us are even part of the FGC now. Couldn't be happier that he gets to be an ambassador for the community, and one day I hoped to get mopped by him. I am not ready yet, but maybe one day I will catch a fade
We used to get together with friends (Chile) to watch Evo or other big tournaments and, man, we got hyped af when JWong had his berserker comebacks. Great vid, keep 'em coming.
i can't imagine the feeling that you are at the top and doing your best but at the top, everyone wants you to fall. you are a villain to their eyes, but you are just doing your best.
I've played many fighting games, casually, throughout my life, starting with SF2SCE on the Mega Drive, but I never knew the FGC existed in such a competitive sense until I watched my first FGC event; Evo 2013. So watching a documentary like this and knowing all this had been going on for years just makes me feel like I was living under a rock, and more importantly, missed out....
then practice homie that's the only way to become good at it cuz u wont become good at something just by touching once to be good at something we need to have the perseverance and , passion for what we wanna achieve
I play SF3S Online and it took me 1.5 years to learn the basics. If you want to get good, play a lot and watch replays and learn from the best. Iv'e been playing 3rd Strike for 4.5 years now and im always getting better. Thinking about entering tournaments eventually. GG.
Justin Wong was in Grand Finals in a MVC2 tourny recently against Sanford Kelly it was a reset first to 10...GODLIKE i suggest checking it out its on youtube
*They need to make a Hollywood movie about Justin Wong. Not sure if they can recreate the gaming moments though. Maybe have him play the games again and have the actor pretending to do combos lol?*
Bruh I randomly found his channel and have been watching his videos just enjoying his gameplay, crazy to think theirs a whole history here and how amazing of a fighter he actually is
He's the Michael Jordan of the FGC. First he was the greatest player and now he owns his own team and brand. Good for him. He is a titan, a man among boys and I am happy for him.
I think the fast-forwarding takes away from the amount of work it took for Justin's Cyclops to take out those three characters. Like, the amount of correct reads needed is pretty unreal.
I'm not saying more editing was needed, I'm saying less editing would've been nice. Could you imagine that editing on Evo moment 34? It just doesn't need to be done, the clip speaks for itself.
last I"ll say on the matter - i swear. I can look up this clip on the same platform I'm viewing this video on - the edit recontextualized the moment within the narrative they're telling. To me it was a neat effect, great audio work, and kept my focus on this more in-depth look at JWong's career. Not trying to make a point - was just trying to give the editor credit for an otherwise less visible moment - that I saw it and I appreciated it. :)
Siempre me gusto el estilo de pelea de Justin Wong, el si es un gamer neto, pocos como el juegan tantos juegos de pelea y ademas son buenos. Me encanto el vídeo, ahora se un poco mas sobre su historia.
VERY WELL MADE VIDEO! this is the quality i like, you guys really dove deep and did alot of research. so awesome waaay better than the cringe video (that was actually cringy in itself).
“What the camera man doesn’t know, is that Justin Wong is one of the greatest mvc players of all time. He lets the camera man take the first two characters, and that’s when he starts to try. The other camera crew join in. They all lose. How is it possible for one man to beat three people?”
Wow! I entered a killer instinct contest at the Microsoft store ib san diego during the xbone release, and this guy one the tournament. I didnt even know he was until now.
I remember watching that winners finals between JWong and FChamp with my brother and going fucking nuts at that messatsu goshoryu. Not to mention the set with Chris afterwards. I'm just reminiscing here, I miss evo.
Correction: Clips from King Of Chinatown is courtesy Psycho Crusher Productions
Here's a link to the original movie if you wanna check it out www.amazon.com/King-Chinatown-Justin-Wong/dp/B008845Y10
I actually have the movie and in it Justin's first team is documented as Empire Arcadia. Is there a reason why you left that out of this video??
*theScore* *esports* How much research did the production crew or whoever do before they put this together? How did they miss a huge chunk of Justin's history and his time with Empire Arcadia?
theScore esports when I think of Justin, I think if the time he got bodied by diago.
And now Justin returns for EVO 2020, because Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is back!
Justin is truly a pure soul...I started a donation drive for my mom's medical bills due to cancer treatment/surgery and he heard about it and made a generous donation along with others to help my struggling family with this daunting task ...thank you Justin
That's sort of what makes the FGC great
We talk shit but when one of us struggles we come together to help a member of our giant family
FGc is a big family.
justin wong, the guy who makes you nervous when hes the one with one character left
loL 😂 truee
JUSTIN WONG OH MY GAWD
Still after so many years it's one of the most legendary sound bites from the FGC
And now Justin returns for EVO 2020, because Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is back!
@@Dracobyte Thanks Coronavirus.
I love when you read a comment, just as the video is saying it. Lol. It's a simple thing but awesome
@@Gender_Ascender My absolute favorite. JUSTIN WOOOOOOOOONG
"she gave me $2 to play street fighter till i lose"
Legend says he saved $1.50 and never when home
You know what, I bet there must have been a day where he put in 2 quarters and had to walk away because it was time to go
That parry made me fall in love with the FGC........ Any gamer can respect that talent
Mr 5hadow
I wasn't watching around that time but damn I wish I could have seen that live.
I think u mean daigo umehara Justin was mashing in the back not sure tho
Umm... that was diago....

THE MAHVEL GOD HIMSELF
BABY
J WONG..

Harry V really?
XxStrideR31xX Yeah, I love Mahvel.

Part 2 is way better than part 3. Part 3 was a major step down.
I love DBFZ, however MvC3 will always be that game I will always treasure.
He never gets enough credit for just how good his Rufus was. He did more with that character than anybody else, by far.
Agree with that I think the only other person at least that I've seen with a comparable Rufus is Ricki Ortiz
Justin’s playstyle in MvC2 reminds me of hungrybox from melee. They both played slowly and campy and its effective while making ridiculously big comebacks and it gave them both a title which is “The Wong Factor” and “Clutchbox”.
14:10 James Chen - "A lot of the games out there, their scene is like, 'if Justin doesn't play it people don't think it's important'"
Haha thats kinda true.
The man, the myth, the legend, the Wong
You forgot the truth
Watching Justin play UMVC3 got me into watching esports and I’ve been in love with the FGC ever since.
Justin Wong is a legend in the FGC, such a likeable person too he's great!
Justin Wong, Street Fighter? Free. Mahvel? He is best.
- Drunk Daigo Umahera in English.
That arcade is still open if you're wondering.
Good to know, ever since those days arcades over here in Toronto have all been wiped out. Made me so sad, cuz I too grew up in arcades.
Which arcade? If you mean china town fair, it closed down about a decade ago, a different style of arcade opened there. Basically china town fair became The Next Level in Brooklyn.
Rip Technika 3 :(
are all technika cabs nearly impossible to play on or is it just the break cab
What do you mean by impossible? Official servers for technika are down, but offline should still work
Jwong is truly one of the GOATs of the FGC and his drive to compete, and his mental fortitude to grow paid off. He's a big reason why many of us are even part of the FGC now. The story of justinwong the man who got parried.
oh damn, i didnt know justin was the opponent of the great daigo parry. sweet, hes made fighting game history early.
We used to get together with friends (Chile) to watch Evo or other big tournaments and, man, we got hyped af when JWong had his berserker comebacks.
Great vid, keep 'em coming.
I was there in person when he won Evo 2014. I agree with KBrad that that moment might be the most memorable one I’ve witnessed for Justin.
Guys like Justin, Chris G, Tokido, Sonic Fox ETC. i respect so much, they can juggle multiple games and always stay sharp win or lose
Justin just took first place in Fighting EX Layer's first appearance at EVO 2018. Dude's still got it.
From Chun Li's finisher the Let's go Justin to the Wong parry to Cyclops showing why he leads the X-Men...the man is a legend. J Dub def my favorite.
Just finished the Daigo episode and then i saw this one just comiong out. Had to watch it instantly.
i can't imagine the feeling that you are at the top and doing your best but at the top, everyone wants you to fall. you are a villain to their eyes, but you are just doing your best.

Present day Justin Wong looks lile everybody's auntie that makes really good cookies
From Villain to Hero...from Heel to Face, from no one to MAHVEL GOD!! Justin Wong one of the all time greats.

Shout out to the guys that put these types of videos together. Love learning much about the fighting game community as an outsider. Keep em coming!
This is the one esports video I keep going back to, his story is so inspiring
*They need to make a Hollywood movie about Justin Wong. Not sure if they can recreate the gaming moments though. Maybe have him play the games again and have the actor pretending to do combos lol?*
I miss the hype, Jwong is dope af. When he won evo i shed a tear of joy
You can't talk about him without mentioning Eddie Lee. Eddie Lee was his role model and the King of Arcades in New York!
i am not into fighting games too much but Justin wong is pure entertainment XD
Justin is an inspiration for an entire community.
Such a legend and a really nice guy, my profile picture says it all
Moment 37 has to be by far, the absolute greatest loss ever
My favorite videos from this channel
Man i was glad to experience all the best games in the arcades best times ever i was playing before these kids were born lol
Undoubtedly one of the greatest legends of Fighting games
Bruh I randomly found his channel and have been watching his videos just enjoying his gameplay, crazy to think theirs a whole history here and how amazing of a fighter he actually is
To this day I still say Justin is the GOAT. Sure Daigo, but Justin just has a great legacy too
The legend and I mean it. Thank you for all those wonderful moments. Especially moment 37#
This was an amazing watch, I appreciate the amazing content as well as the FGC love
Thanks for this video, I've watched a few of Justin's videos without this knowledge
The GOAT
Biggest surprise here was hearing that he did Pokken at some point. Kinda wish more of the prominent pro players gave that game a shot too.
He's the Michael Jordan of the FGC. First he was the greatest player and now he owns his own team and brand. Good for him. He is a titan, a man among boys and I am happy for him.
Your editor deserves a medal for 4:10. CHILLS.
eccentrictomboy he just fast forwarded a a classic clip of Justin Wong winning? More like a participation medal
I think the fast-forwarding takes away from the amount of work it took for Justin's Cyclops to take out those three characters. Like, the amount of correct reads needed is pretty unreal.
Good editing doesn't have to be flashy...

Very informative documentary. Thanks for the great job.
Siempre me gusto el estilo de pelea de Justin Wong, el si es un gamer neto, pocos como el juegan tantos juegos de pelea y ademas son buenos. Me encanto el vídeo, ahora se un poco mas sobre su historia.
14:26 that one sentence is enough to describe how good he is and no excuse for anyone saying that they suck because they have an actual job to do
His plays create tears, legend.
VERY WELL MADE VIDEO! this is the quality i like, you guys really dove deep and did alot of research. so awesome waaay better than the cringe video (that was actually cringy in itself).
“Let’s go Justin!”
The GOAT of fighting games. Period.
I thought I was the greatest Marvel vs Capcom player! I was Wong!!
USA 🇺🇸 love hearing them chant that for Justin!
Wow I'm amazed on Justin's muscle memory not confused af while playing in tournaments.
I remember his Nexon period with DFO. Much props to him!
“What the camera man doesn’t know, is that Justin Wong is one of the greatest mvc players of all time. He lets the camera man take the first two characters, and that’s when he starts to try. The other camera crew join in. They all lose. How is it possible for one man to beat three people?”
His Rufus was insane.
Wow great story. Him and Sanford Kelly are both legends of gaming
Justin Wong (The Chun-Li guy that got comeback'd by Daigo as Ken)
I'm a simple man.
I see a FGC/smash video from this channel, I watch.
Its interesting how similar Justin Wong and ZeRo in Smash 4. They both had similar play styles, and were so dominant that people hated them.
"if justin doesnt play it it isnt important"
rip blazblue feelsbadman
2000 was a good year I remember buying that game for the first PS
Watching that Justin vs Chris G final and the Blazblue final that year got me into fighting games
Placing top 10s in so many games, madness
Wow! I entered a killer instinct contest at the Microsoft store ib san diego during the xbone release, and this guy one the tournament. I didnt even know he was until now.
he is the real GOAT but now all eyes on SonicFox .. with 31 1st place trophy.. god of Mortalkombat and injustice 2 damn..
ooo learned a few new things in this doc. Didn't know JWong quit his side job for when signing with EchoFOX
the first time i heard of justin was through tips and tricks mag back in the day
I love your The Story videos, some of the best esports docs on youtube!
Love your documentaries guys! Keep up the great work! I’m sure this one will be a good one aswell! JUSTIN WONG!
That is the coolest thing anybody has ever said about anybody in the FGC.
"Dominating the Fgc is what he did in his SPARE TIME"
now everyone go watch "WE'VE GOT A TALKERRR!" video and revel in his greatness
This guy is just amazing. Would love to see him play marvel again and take home another trophy at Evo.
And now Justin returns for EVO 2020, because Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is back!
My favorite justin wong moment is the comeback against chris g in evo 2013 with yipes and magus hype as fuck commentary.
It's pure fgc perfection!!
i miss the good ol days when justin wong was with Empire Arcadia
Can you please do the story of PPMD or DR.PP from mele. Hes my all time favorite espots pro.
Steve Aguilar yes please
man the events i wish i knew about and in NYC damn
Justin's story its motivational
another great video!
THE LEGEND. THE WONG FACTOR.
Honestly we need more videos like this
They showed yipes choking away that set like 4 times. Did my man dirty
I'd love to have seen Justin Wong working at Dave n Busters and Family Fun Center Arcade
Such a kind person.
I'm pretty sure the dude has been top 8 at EVO more than 30 times!!!! Who does that?!?!?!
I remember watching that winners finals between JWong and FChamp with my brother and going fucking nuts at that messatsu goshoryu. Not to mention the set with Chris afterwards. I'm just reminiscing here, I miss evo.
If you make one for Smug that would be awesome, BTW great video (As always).
i remember this guy...he stayed at my house when he came to canada a while back. stand up guy
Really?
