honestly while i dont play them or even follow them much, these FGC videos are some of my favorite as most of these players have just the longest and most heartfelt background stories imaginable, from people growing up poor and using a local arcade as a get away from home, to not knowing if your parents trust your choice of what you wanna pursue to so much more, the history with these players is just not what you see with a lot of the FPS community, and I love every minute of these videos,
Tokido is one of my favorite esport player of all time. The story between him and Daigo is like those Japanese manga: He decide to become a pro player instead of studying his Med Master because Daigo announced to be the 1st pro player in Japan, he always want to prove he become stronger than Daigo, fail many time but never give up. Also what his definition of "Legend" in FGC is amazing. There is one time a reporter ask him this question, Tokido said: If there is an alien came to Earth, and it challenge 1 human to play SFV, if he/she lose, we all extinct, who will you gonna call? Tokido answer with even he will call Daigo to save the Earth, and Tokido said he hopes some day it will be him, that's what he call a "Legend"
Tokido doesn't realise how many people study his tactics. I keep on watching and watching and strive to have the same mindset. Thanks for all the crazy moments. You are already a legend. And great video !
Man, Tokido is so inspirational ! The way he strives for victory to live up to the name his grand father gave him, the way he wants to be the greatest despite already being a legend, the way he always has the fans in mind with his gimmicks, his lifestyle, his humility, and to top it off, he could go to one of the best university of Japan and the world while being a master of multiple fighting games. Literally everything about this man is great ! Thanks for this video.
man... the humility that Tokido presents and the way he speaks about Daigo... makes me wish there was a long running FGC manga out there that tells their story. It's really amazing to see this kind of conduct in a community that often highlights bravado and trash talk. I think this video just made me a Tokido fan for life.
I've been watching you guys for what feels like years and this is probably my favorite video you guys have put out. I don't even play fighting games besides the occasional Smash Bros with my friends.
I love Tokido's passion and how he always being strict to himself to be the best. I am a huge Daigo's fan but when I saw the fight against Tokido at Kemonomichi and saw him crying, I realized his true passion. It was beautiful.
Even though Tokido has beaten Daigo in tournaments before, the FT10 loss was still so devastating to him because the FT10 format is Daigo's greatest category, stamina and adapation. FT3's are like sprints, while FT10 is a grueling marathon, it tests the player's mental fortitude and sheer experience in adapting and reading the opponent. Like how Daigo's Vampire Hunter streak of 286 wins on a single coin demonstrated, Daigo has monstrous mental stamina and concentration, he is able to stay on peak performance for extremely long amounts of time. No one has ever beaten Daigo in an FT10 except Fuudo, which Daigo promptly defeated in a rematch. Daigo is too busy nowadays to do extensive training for tournaments, however if he knows who his single opponent is, he can study and learn his opponent like nobody else can, in a way he is like the Batman of fighting games, he is unbeatable with prep time. Until Tokido can beat him in an FT10, the format which Daigo excels in, Tokido will always see him a mountain whose peak he has yet to defeat.

I will always be a fan of Tokido! I was first exposed to him back in EVO 2002. Seventeen years later and he is still amazing. One of the 5 Gods in Japan and a legend forever.
Sonicfox is great at multiple fighting games as well. I think if Tokido continued to play the other games instead of just Street Fighter he would have had more votes. The guy is obviously still good at other games as seen when he made it to 2 Top 8 finishes in King of Fighters XIII at EVO. One of them being in Grand Finals when he lost to Xiaohai who he had a close game with if I remember correctly.
It was fighting game player of the year, so really mostly about the year's accomplishments as opposed to an entire career spanning many years. And yeah, in terms of 2018 Sonic Fox was definitely the best.
For me tokido is such an inspiration of dedication and hard work. Most people would be satisfied with what he's achived. But he's still is pushing for more.
Daigo destroying tokido in practice for kemonomichi against infiltration sparked tokido's desire to be the best, Daigo being tokido's motivation for perfection, and finally challenging Daigo in kemonomichi after being crowned first in the world, but only to be destroyed again. Tokido will forever chase after the back of Daigo, and there is no better story in esports than this.
He's one of the most iconic players in the industry. I bet anyone who has devoted their time on SF5 competitive footage can recognized his Akuma in first glance. His air fireball is unique.
Im really happy you gave Tokido the time in this video he so deserves. Whether he feels he is or not, he is absolutely a legend, or one of the gods, of the FGC, and is one of my personal favorite individual stories. Many stories told are those that sailed to great heights easily due to skill or lack of competition, but Tokido is a great case of never giving up on yourself and never settling.
man that clip of all the FG players of Echo Fox was crazy to me. to think at one point the best players of the FGC were on that team at one point together is something crazy in itself.
I'm not into fighting games. Like few years ago I played Tekken 3, but lets me honest - I was a kid. Right now I'm into moba or FPS. neverthless, what I'm tryin to say is that I admire this people so much. I dont know combos, what they doing but stories are incredible and i love it. From zero to hero. Never give up. Chase dream. Fight.
@@lilskunkmeat6976 The vortex is essentially a series of knock downs. And during an opponents knockdown the offensive player creates an ambiguous setup, forcing the knockdown opponent into a guessing situation. For example does he block left or right? If the defending player guesses wrong he then eats a combo which generally ends in another knockdown and the process is repeated again and again. It gets much deeper than that and if done correctly can be a nightmare to deal with. Tokido perfected the vortex style with Akuma, which eventually created a sort of meta in sfiv. Although I don't think it started in sfiv, it definitely became one of the most effective styles of play.
I remember when I first discovered Street Fighter in the summer of 2015, It was the end of my freshman year, I had only been out of school for maybe a week when I saw the "Games For Gold" section on my Xbox 360, the only good free game I saw for June was: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. I had previously known it in the past from watching the notorious DarkSydePhil from 2008 - 2012 (Age 8 - 12) I knew of the gameplay a little bit from watching DSP, but it had been a few years since I watched him or anything about Street Fighter in years... So I decided to try it out. Within a month I went from having no knowledge of the game to having a full knowledge of all the character's moves and strategies to beat players consistently. I loved the fast gameplay, the many easy to learn moves and combos, the large roster of characters, but most importantly I was addicted to the feeling of beating another smart player through sheer real time skill and reflexes. I turned out to be a natural when it came to learning the characters of the game, by the end of the summer I had a C Rank with a half a dozen characters, along with a few dozen nice replays. I miss that game, I played it for a year and I got kinda bored of it and just moved on. It's been 2 and a half years since I last played a Street Fighter game, I might try to pickup Street Fighter V and get back into it, although I prefer SF4's style over SF5.
If I'm not mistaken what Daigo said was: "You already beat me in every other thing." Meaning, Tokido is more successful in everything than Daigo but fighting games. He had a better education, black belt in karate etc. I think in Daigo's mind the only success he ever had was in fighting games, but while Tokido has a successful career in fighting games, he is also successful (or at least more successful) in every other thing. And later Tokido said, they were fighting to determide the better player so their life outside of that fight doesn't matter.
@@kagerou254 I wouldn't say that it applies to other fighting games. While he is not playing them anymore, Daigo was a beast in every other fighting game he played. He gave Ogawa (who was considered the best player then if Im not mistaken) a run for his money in a Guilty Gear Xrd exhibition match. Nuki also likes to mention how good Daigo was in Darkstalkers back then, winning every tournament he entered. He is a man worth of the name Beast in any 2D fighting game he takes seriously for sure. But sadly he doesn't seem to have enough time for other games anymore and he is getting older.
He is the best right now. But its tight competitions right now. Tokidos consistency to always in high level performance in every tournament prove that he is the best
Tokido is so inspirational, he may look like the demon he plays, with his murderface, but seeing him also showing emotions, being happy, smiling and even crying, really makes him human and relatable. Daigo often looks emotion-less - I think he really looks neutral in his attitude, he has a better poker face than Tokido, not varying very much in his range of expressions and emotions... Daigo is the emotion-less God, and Tokido is in fact the sensitive Demon... even if he tries to hide it behind his murderface mask... They are 2 sides of the same coin imho, Tokido is the Vegeta to Daigo's Goku... Even if he wins everything and is crowned best fighting game player of all time, he will never be satisfied until he beats Daigo...
In my opinion tokido embodies the fgc. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he plays with a passion like no other. He's already a legend and my reason for getting into sf in the first place. Tokido for life
and when Punk said that he is not in his best mindset for last year's EVO, i think it's safe to say that Shun Goku Satsu did it's job very well in a narrative way. That move destroyed Punk's soul.
''improve yourself get better and better'' he say me this when i meet this grand men in chile about 3 years ago, and can i say, he is in other kind of world when its about figthing games... this guy its the real definition of samurai warrior... thanks for this masterpiece
Tokido is the Character that he plays : Akuma Thats the best thing about it. * They have Murder Faces. * They Strive to be the Best * They are Wise & Focused * They are Honorable Worriers * They are Never Satisfied
And then you have commentators saying that Sonicfox is a bigger legend than Tokido. Don't get me wrong, Sonicfox is a great player, but he's a thousand years too early to be anything like Tokido
very good point, but i think it's the impact that sonicfox has had that made him as big, unlike tokido coming 2nd a lot of times, sonic was often first and if he lost it would be a major upset which again would be hugely impactful. So it is his impact more than his actual creds that makes him bigger.
I think that's usually used in the context of "the now." Tokido is a bigger legend with more history, but this was the year that the eyes were on SonicFox.
It's less about being a legend, and more about becoming the next stage in the evolution of a fighting game professional. From his earlier days of undeniable talent and skill but not living up to his extreme potential, to his transformation at the end of the SFIV era into someone who finally overcame his mental hang-ups and transformed into the most dominant/consistent Street Fighter player in the world.
Tokido is an inspiration. His morals, and mindset is really motivating in achieving succesa. He is one of the best players that the fgc could ever have. Kudos and respect to Tokido 👌

Fight.
these long documentary style vids are by far the best content on this channel.
Finally!!! Love thrown at my favorite FG player. Thank you for making this special. #ToKiDo
I don't watch fighting games, but Tokido seems like a wholesome dude
These videos are well documented and amazing. Good Job!
He also pretty much invented the vortex with Akuma is SFIV which transformed the way that game was played.
Leonard McDougall what's the vortex
Leonard McDougall thank you
@@IamLe7nny Isn't that why USF4 or Tubo was released?
@@dylancross1039 yeah that's right, they created new mechanics in the game to deal with the vortex in ultra
I remember when I first discovered Street Fighter in the summer of 2015, It was the end of my freshman year,
I had only been out of school for maybe a week when I saw the "Games For Gold" section on my Xbox 360, the only good free game I saw for June was:
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.
I had previously known it in the past from watching the notorious DarkSydePhil from 2008 - 2012 (Age 8 - 12)
I knew of the gameplay a little bit from watching DSP, but it had been a few years since I watched him or anything about Street Fighter in years...
So I decided to try it out.
Within a month I went from having no knowledge of the game to having a full knowledge of all the character's moves and strategies to beat players consistently.
I loved the fast gameplay, the many easy to learn moves and combos, the large roster of characters,
but most importantly I was addicted to the feeling of beating another smart player through sheer real time skill and reflexes.
I turned out to be a natural when it came to learning the characters of the game, by the end of the summer I had a C Rank with a half a dozen characters,
along with a few dozen nice replays. I miss that game, I played it for a year and I got kinda bored of it and just moved on.
It's been 2 and a half years since I last played a Street Fighter game, I might try to pickup Street Fighter V and get back into it,
although I prefer SF4's style over SF5.
incredible video. great work on this, one of the best videos by far.
I love the way and the passion you can feel in his voice when he says "Fighting Game"
Maxmillian Dood got me into fighting games, TOKIDO got me addicted to it.
Funny thing even Daigo said to Tokido that he's the best after that FT10 and didn't feel satisfied what a legend
If I'm not mistaken what Daigo said was: "You already beat me in every other thing."
Meaning, Tokido is more successful in everything than Daigo but fighting games.
@@stilmaho Yeah I remember that both are awesome in their own way imho
Daigo is just the master of FT10's.
A legend was born but it is yet to end.
NICE VIDEO! I'm so excited just by watching those moments!
This is beautiful, I didnt know Tokido was such a cool dude. Love you lots vids.
This video deserves 1M views, its just that its 32 minutes that discourages people to watch it...
Great stuff guys! I really enjoyed it!
In my opinion tokido embodies the fgc. He wears his heart on his sleeve and he plays with a passion like no other. He's already a legend and my reason for getting into sf in the first place. Tokido for life
Im not gonna cry.. im not crying... crying in the corner now..
This was really good.
Tokido is the GOAT and seemingly an amazing and kind person. He's someone anybody who is interested in any competitive gaming should look up to.
Tokido doing the raging demon pose in front of the camera made him one of my favorite players
I love how adding english subtitles it says taquito or tokyo though. Great vid as always!
I have been a Daigo fan since Evo 37, but I will always have love for Tokido. His passion and unyielding drive gets me every time.
and when Punk said that he is not in his best mindset for last year's EVO, i think it's safe to say that Shun Goku Satsu did it's job very well in a narrative way. That move destroyed Punk's soul.
He's a certified legend. A true underdog.
God damn, this video is so damn thorough in covering everything, I LOVE it!
Tokido is a legend, so good at so many diff games
Thanks theScore for getting me interested in the fgc!
Wow I'm really glad it did, not enough gamers are exposed to this great scene and amazing stories!
Tokido's english is a national treasure. Protect him at all costs.
"Tokido... is someone so great."
''improve yourself get better and better'' he say me this when i meet this grand men in chile about 3 years ago, and can i say, he is in other kind of world when its about figthing games... this guy its the real definition of samurai warrior... thanks for this masterpiece
what a great video. really enjoyed it
Tokido is the Character that he plays : Akuma
Thats the best thing about it.
* They have Murder Faces.
* They Strive to be the Best
* They are Wise & Focused
* They are Honorable Worriers
* They are Never Satisfied
And the most important:
THEY DO THE POSE
Some say that Tokido still wanders the Earth, searching for the most powerful opponents to challenge his strength.
Dude when I hear that I think of himura kenshin from samurai x haha. Wandering the country looking for the strongest
Got to meet him at Canada cup 2018. Such a humble person.
Great video! Tokido is an amazing player.
Even his documentary is Godlike.
These documentary are really great. Thanks fro that.
Fox is often first in lesser games
I think that's usually used in the context of "the now." Tokido is a bigger legend with more history, but this was the year that the eyes were on SonicFox.
What can you expect from supporters of a literal actual furfag?
But Sonicfox is a furrie he is in another level entirely!
he might have lost his championship spot in 2018, but a legend in my heart forever.
These fighting game docs always make me tear up
I saw tokido in a korean bbq and the only thing that came into my mind is "GOD"
@ wow you are so cool guy , wow yeah HAha
@ ok buddy like you dont have hours of anime in a saved playlist haha
WoahItsWiley ahhh my eyes were cut. The edge 🤯
@@Ktoe13 ?
It's less about being a legend, and more about becoming the next stage in the evolution of a fighting game professional.
From his earlier days of undeniable talent and skill but not living up to his extreme potential, to his transformation at the end of the SFIV era into someone who finally overcame his mental hang-ups and transformed into the most dominant/consistent Street Fighter player in the world.
Tokido is an inspiration. His morals, and mindset is really motivating in achieving succesa. He is one of the best players that the fgc could ever have. Kudos and respect to Tokido 👌
Great video as always
