I got my 24 AT4 1500 a month after you, and I’ve experienced the same great MPG’s. 38.8 is the best I’ve seen, and it wasn’t all hwy miles either. Just insane what these monster sized vehicles can accomplish with the Duramax. So glad I didn’t go with the V8… And the 3.0 sounds damn good too!
I bought a 2024 AT4X 3.0 three months ago and have right around 5k miles on in. In my experience so far, I am getting better and better fuel economy as the miles add up. I get mid to low 20s in the city. On the highway, the sweet spot is around 65-70 mph, but here in Texas everyone is going 80+. At 80 im getting 20-21, 85 mph gets me 19-20. Not mad at those numbers at all with a lifted truck, 33" tires, 4wd, front and rear lockers, etc, especially since my friend got the powerboost around the same time as me and I'm getting better mileage 😎
I have just over 7500 miles on my 24 AT4 3.0L. I'm averaging 24 mpg city driving. Hasn't really changed any overtime. I've made one long-distance road trip and averaged 29 mpg. Congrats on the new truck.
I have a ‘21 silverado 4WD with the 3.0L. Averaging 24-26 mpg (mostly highway) with left lane speeds. When I’m tired and grandpa like in the middle lane it’s 29-32 mpg.
Slow down a bit brother. I set my cruise to 69 on the highways here in Michigan, and when doing so I’m easily averaging low 30’s on even short trips. In the city I’m in the high 20’s, and the best I’ve seen was just under 39 mpg’s. I have a 2024 AT4 with the LZ0! Great video by the way!👊🏽💯
I just purchased a 2024 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali Ultimate and on a round trip of 140 miles.. in 2wd (not 4wd Auto) and keeping it around 65 mph it's best was 36.9 mph and the overall average for that trip 35.3 mpg.
I have a 2020 GMC with the LM2. I have done both long freeway trips getting over 32 MPG AVG and combined city/freeway driving for around 24 MPG AVG. I have stock rim and tire but do have a leveling kit installed. I think it is crazy that a full size truck can get over 700 miles to the take on longer road trips. I love mine!! 48K on this guy.
I just bought the Chevy Silverado LT 1500 with 3.0L Diesel 4x4 Crew Cab reg bed. Great truck. Nicest I've ever driven. I rent new fully loaded trucks all the time, this has the best engine, trans, suspension and overall quality. Love it!!! ❤❤❤ Buy the new 3.0L Duramax Diesel. Super well made and indestructible.
New 1500 Elevation Duramax here. 1,300 miles since delivery on 7/3/24. 28.1 mpg with an average of 29.1 mph. Came from a 2018 Tundra Platinum that averaged about 17 mpg. Better in every way IMO. Time will tell if it’s as bulletproof as the Toyota.
Nice truck! I had a 22 3.0 duramax Silverado trail boss and honestly I have owned several 5.3s and a couple 6.2s (both 6.2s were junk) and the 3.0 to this day is my favorite engine In the GM world. On a trip from San Antonio to California the best I got was 34 mpgs getting to Tucson fully loaded with a family of five. I do believe it’ll get better as you break it in. I currently have a 24 5.0 f150 3.73 gears which so far is great!
2" level on 34s on my 2021 Powerboost and average 21.5mpg without adjusting my speedo. Before mods I was 23.1. seems like some Powerboosts do great and others don't. I do look forward to your results on this truck
Thanks for filling at QuikTrip- if it really matters - Auto Diesel typically will have a lower Bio Fuel percentage if the store has both Commercial truck and Auto Pumps. Middle of summer both will be B20. Colder months Auto will be between B5 or 11.
3300 miles on my 24 Silverado LTZ 3.0 max tow and I love it. 25 mpg at 80 mph. 60 mph on rural highways will typically average 29 to 30 mpg. My fuel economy definitely began to increase after the first 2000 miles. The AT4 and Trail Boss/ZR2 variants have a lot more aerodynamic drag so don't expect the crazy high numbers some 3.0 trucks are getting. It's up to you, but I strongly recommend a fuel additive like Hotshots EDT, Archoil 6400/6500, Techron Diesel Treatment, Stanadyne, etc. Unlike gasoline, the Top Tier program for diesel fuel pretty much fell through, so most diesel fuel doesn't have detergents that they're supposed to have in them. The additives I mentioned had the detergents that keep injectors clean and reduces the frequency of regens.
I also live in Az and I drive a 24 Tundra non hybrid platinum. At 75mph driving the 101, I-10, and 202 you won’t get the advertised mpg. While we don’t have long uphill grades the 101 and the 202 are not flat and I find driving 75mph I might get the city rating of 18mpg on the highway. If I drive at the speed limit or maybe 5 over I have been able to achieve the advertised 23mpg highway but the conditions have to be right. People in Arizona drive fast, including myself, but when manufacturers test these trucks for mpg, half the country has highways that are at 55mph and flat as can be. 25mpg @75mph traveling the entire stretch of the 101 and the I-10 to the 202 sounds great to me. I may have to look into one of these 3.0 duramax in a couple years. Excited to see how the build turns out. Subscribed 👍
My experience with diesel engine break in is that they seam to be as good as they will get with about 40,000 mile on them. This is in reference to the 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins. It will be interesting to see how your journey with the 3.0 Duramax plays out. I currently have a new 2024 F150 XLT Powerboost 4x4 , 6.5' box. First tank of fuel through it produced 19.3 mpg hand calculated, the gauge on the truck was optimistic with a reading of 20.1 mpg. My driving to this point has been rural with a small amount of city driving.
Super stoked to see what you do with your AT4. I’m in az as well, up by carefree and the 17. Just got a 2024 At4X 3.0. And the mpg is right around 23 mpgs. I get about 16 in the city. I’m fine with those numbers. My 2021 traverse is about the same and so is my wife’s Volvo xc90.
@@gonefishingapodaca I’m comparing MSRP to MSRP. I can’t speak to every individual transaction. I’m sure there are other people in different markets that have paid at or over MSRP. GMC puts a $13,000 premium on the AT4X.
So you expect to get great results for fuel efficiency while driving at 75 MPh. Try this out do the same thing only at 55 MPhil,and observe the mpg.😅 I own a 20 year old Ford diesel and get 24 mpg,at 55mph. You can not expect to speed/ and get efficiency. There is no need for breaking in new vehicles, the high quality and technology have superceded the old school engineering. Great video this shows everyone that you have to be careful not to through fuel out the tail pipe. ❤
@@DAH1020 If I did a video at 55 it would end with me being rear ended as the speed limit here is 65. The reason I do it at 75 is because it’s not uncommon for the average person here to be doing 80mph. Real life testing by real life people, not doing 55 mph in hopes to get a shockingly unrealistic number for where and how I drive. Hope that makes sense. I think it’s typical for the average person to add 9-10 mph to the speed limit on cruise control gaming the fact that 99.9% of cops aren’t writing that ticket.
@@GearsGadgets I bought a 2024 GMC 1500 AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax. Bought it on a Saturday and took it to the coast that next Monday. A few days later on the way home I averaged 27.6 miles per gallon for nearly 200 miles. That was me having the cruise control set to 75mph most of the way. The best 50 mile stretch was right at 28mpg. That was from the Texas coast near Port Aransas back home to San Antonio, TX. Cannot complain so far about the mileage.
Just did 650 miles round trip. 2inch leveled at bilstein 285 75 17 falken at tires. 25 mpg lot of idling sand dune drive around 2 days. Most hwy drive cruise set at 70 to 80 mpg.
Owning both Duramax LBZ and L5P platforms from new, my experience was around 8k miles the engines loosened up for better MPGs. I also ran synthetic oil in both which probably helped a bit too.
The mileage gets better over time. I don't have the lifted AT4 which does impact the mileage. I have gotten as high as 33.5 on extended highway trips and as low as 27.5 when going closer to 80. If you stay between 65 - 75 you should get 28 easy. I generally get 29 - 30 at those speeds but I have an SLT running 33's and no lift.
I bought a 2024 SLT 3.0 last December and have been getting 28-32 mpg. I never drive over 70mph and the sweet spot is 63-65 mpg for the best fuel mileage. When I was researching these trucks I remember that the AT4's listed MPG's was less than the SLT 4 wheel drive X31 package.
Seems just a bit low, but with that package maybe not. My 3.0 has around 15,000 on the clock and just returned from a 1,110 road trip and I average 28.7 over those miles using the truck’s computer calc. Mine is a ‘23 Denali Ultimate and while I’m sure MPG did increase after break in, it wasn’t enough for me to notice. Great truck & engine. I had a nox sensor go around 600 miles but hasn’t had a single issue since. Quick edit - the seats still suck, even after 15,000!
I am guessing the Denali returns better MPG being it doesn't have the slight lift and off road tires of the AT4. I was kind of shocked that the seats didn't bother me after the hour or so I drove but I will be curious to see how they are on a 3-4 hour drive.
My driving average with my Silverado 1500 Duramax is 27.5 mpg. I am in South Florida and traffic here tends to be pretty bad but I mainly drive highway.
I don't know about any of this stuff, but I thought I saw somewhere that there is also another additive needed for diesel engines - that would make the great MPGs moot? Im just wondering if the recommended oil changes is all that is required - like a non-diesel.
16.2 and 21.1 mpg in your Powerboost is crazy. I've never gotten less than 21 unless I was towing or hauling full loads. I also use Fuelly and after 42641 total miles recorded I have an average of 22.6 with a best of 25.2 mpg. My lowest ever was 11.7 trailering a dual axle enclosed U-Haul through the Texas Hill Country with a grand piano inside. I always used regular until the past couple months where I decided to run premium to see if there was a noticeable difference. Believe it or not, I found about .5 - 1 mpg improvement, especially when running heavy. Also, daily driving is 50/50 road/hwy, 50 mi round trip 5 days/wk. Hwy mph usually 72-73 mph. I find that the gives my particular truck the best return. I started using fuelly close to 10k miles into my ownership so it's not accounting for the full 51k miles I've got. I can also say that as the truck breaks in, it performs better and is becoming more efficient. I'm not a GM fan but give props to the 3.0 Duramax. I'd consider it if hard pressed to replace my truck. But unlike you, I've had nothing but good results with my 2021 XLT 4x4 Sport 302A High pkg F-150 and love it. It's smooth, quiet, powerful, and above all, it's been ultra reliable. Good luck with the diesel.
The 3.0 suffers slightly in mpg anywhere above 70. 23.9 seems slightly low even then, but if you were to do that loop at 70 or 65, you'd likely see mileage on the 30s.
I had a 21 Silverado 3.0 Duramax, and I’d say the error you’re seeing in the computer is partly due to the small sample size. You will get some variation in your tank fill as well. The relatively poor mileage you’re seeing is related to your speed. Cut your speed down to 70, and then to 65 to make some comparison runs. I saw as high as 31-32 in short runs on level ground. Keep your foot out of it a bit, and you should see 26-27 or so. As it is, it appears to be considerably better than the hybrid.
I am on the fence with Sturgis, it's a giant commitment to ride that far basically requiring a week off of work to do it. It's not a no as of yet but its also not confirmed either.

Personally the diesel doesn't sound all that loud to me. If you compare it to a 6.2L you can basically swap the sound of injector ticking with the sound of diesel clacking. Of course neither are as silent as the slight hum of the Powerboost but when comparing the diesel to a gasser, I think they do an amazing job muffling the clack.
The 3.0 is really quiet compared to the heavy duty diesel engines. In the cab you might hear just a faint hint of injector clatter, a tiny big of turbo, and a deep cummins like burble.
I would rather pay a little more for maintenance to have a reliable truck. My Ford spent WAY too much time in the shop. I calculated approximately 10% of my ownership experience was with the truck in Ford's possession at the shop.
@@PopCorn-ei5bj how do you figure. The fuel filters and oil for diesel engines are more than what you spend on a power boost. Seeings the power boost doesn’t have fuel filters. And the oil filter and oil for the boost is by far cheaper. Good try. I drive a 3.0 Duramax. I know. I was a booster owner once. Not anymore. Try again. Also the cost of fuel and def. Sorry man. The only saving grace is the 30mpg I get with mine. Had ford kept the baby power stroke I would have bought it. But I am duramax owner now. Hope it serves me as good as my old Cummins did back in the day. Second gen common rail was a great truck.
Driving at 75mpH, It's no wonder you got piss poor mileage with your F150. I get 21 to 22 in my 2021 XLT with the 5.0 by keeping it below 70. Terrain, speed and mods all play a role. You seemed disappointed at the 21 mpg with your PB but look at what you did to it..If you're concerned about gas mileage, don't mod your truck.
Multiple things to address here. 75 mph is the speed I set because the speed limit here in Phoenix is 65 mph and nobody (including me) does 70 mph with the exception of a rare few old people who are more likely to create accidents for not keeping up with the flow of 80+ mph traffic. So my tests are real world, keeping up with the flow of traffic tests. I am not trying to hyper-mile my way into an unrealistic and unsafe result. Below 70 mph in Phoenix is flat out dangerous. I am not saying I am disappointed by the 21 mpg in the PB but I am saying I was underwhelmed by the fact that I never one time got advertised MPG. Watching THIS video, you will see even with my CRAZZZY 75 mph speed, I still surpassed the EPA estimate of 23 mpg highway. So comparing the PB to the Duramax, the Duramax absolutely is better at achieving EPA estimates in a real world scenario that doesn't require me to set cruise control at put everyone on the highway in danger. If you also listened to what I said in this video, MPG isn't my only concern, I am okay taking an MPG hit from modifications BUT my goal is to minimize that hit as much as possible. I have far more faith that the Duramax will be a much better fit for that scenario based on the results of this test.
I was born and raised in Tempe and moved across the country 8 years and miss the roads/highway in the valley. The speed limit on most highways here is 60 mph and most people drive 55 mph if you're lucky and there are accidents EVERYDAY..... In Phoenix there's a method to the madness aka the flow of traffic is a thing. I remember almost everyday on my way home from work on my motorcycle I would ride halfway home with a Tempe motorcycle cop staggered going about 15 over and we would give each other the motorcycle wave as he exited the highway.
It's worth it when diesel is within 20 cents of regular. I average 28 on road trips and have gotten as high as 33.7 mpg. If you compare it to trucks that require premium it's a no brainer
Is your truck lifted? Does it have oversized, knobby mud tires? This engine makes nearly 500 lb ft of torque between 1500 and 3000 RPM and gets 25 mpg before it's even broken in.
You lifted and put huge tires on the F150 what did you expect lol Diesel will always be better than gas when it comes to MPG. The Powerboost is a better truck hands down.
@@Michael_M991 I acknowledged that I lifted it and put bigger tires on it but I also said I never saw 24 mpg as advertised before I ever did a single mod. Point is my F-150 never got close to the advertised MPG stock, the Sierra exceeded advertised mpg immediately. That isn’t insignificant. MY Powerboost was a complete failure. Nearly 10% of my ownership experience the truck was in the shop. So while I appreciate some people love their Powerboost and have no issues, my Ford experience was atrociously bad. Ford was “hands down” the worst vehicle I’ve ever owned period. So as I said in my video, I am fine with an MPG hit after modification, I would like to minimize it. Exceeding estimates fresh out of the box is a promising indicator of being able to do so.

I would never spend my own money on a GMC / Chevy product personally. Ram too. On some highway runs I’ve had 27/28mpg in the PB quite easily. So I’m really not sure how you were driving yours. Temps / elevation maybe? Bad fuel?
@@Michael_M991 always run premium top tier fuel from Costco. Track every fuel up with Fuelly, not just reporting dash mpg, it’s actual calculations. Ran over 35,000 tracked miles this way. Best I ever saw was 21.1. Even more damning is the averages as reported by 354 other owners tracking fuel the same way averaging 18.8-19.8 mpg which is 4 mpg lower than the 24 advertised. So while I have no problem with people who love their Powerboosts, I do side eye anyone who watched my videos and see how unreliable my truck was, who question why I would move on to another platform completely. Ford was horrendous in terms of quality and very slow (Ford parts logistics problems, not dealers) to repair when things went wrong.

Had absolutely zero issues with my Platinum.
I think you are forgetting one super important thing. It's basically mandatory to ADD diesel additive to every tank full. Has to do with the lubricity of diesel and the high pressure fuel pump. Do some research...and decide for yourself.

2018 f150 5.0. on long tripos i would see 900 miles to empty range 36 gallon tank. was getting around 24 mpg

It may have regen'd, which would decrease the mileage significantly. i know mine did on my 180 mile trip home from the dealer.

Try this out do the same thing only at 55 MPhil,and observe the mpg.😅 I own a 20 year old Ford diesel and get 24 mpg,at 55mph. You can not expect to speed/ and get efficiency. There is no need for breaking in new vehicles, the high quality and technology have superceded the old school engineering. Great video this shows everyone that you have to be careful not to through fuel out the tail pipe. ❤
@@DAH1020 If I did a video at 55 it would end with me being rear ended as the speed limit here is 65. The reason I do it at 75 is because it’s not uncommon for the average person here to be doing 80mph. Real life testing by real life people, not doing 55 mph in hopes to get a shockingly unrealistic number for where and how I drive. Hope that makes sense. I think it’s typical for the average person to add 9-10 mph to the speed limit on cruise control gaming the fact that 99.9% of cops aren’t writing that ticket.
@@GearsGadgets I bought a 2024 GMC 1500 AT4 with the 3.0 Duramax. Bought it on a Saturday and took it to the coast that next Monday. A few days later on the way home I averaged 27.6 miles per gallon for nearly 200 miles. That was me having the cruise control set to 75mph most of the way. The best 50 mile stretch was right at 28mpg. That was from the Texas coast near Port Aransas back home to San Antonio, TX. Cannot complain so far about the mileage.
Just did 650 miles round trip. 2inch leveled at bilstein 285 75 17 falken at tires. 25 mpg lot of idling sand dune drive around 2 days. Most hwy drive cruise set at 70 to 80 mpg.

Owning both Duramax LBZ and L5P platforms from new, my experience was around 8k miles the engines loosened up for better MPGs. I also ran synthetic oil in both which probably helped a bit too.

The mileage gets better over time. I don't have the lifted AT4 which does impact the mileage. I have gotten as high as 33.5 on extended highway trips and as low as 27.5 when going closer to 80. If you stay between 65 - 75 you should get 28 easy. I generally get 29 - 30 at those speeds but I have an SLT running 33's and no lift.
I bought a 2024 SLT 3.0 last December and have been getting 28-32 mpg. I never drive over 70mph and the sweet spot is 63-65 mpg for the best fuel mileage. When I was researching these trucks I remember that the AT4's listed MPG's was less than the SLT 4 wheel drive X31 package.
Yeah the AT4 definitely has worse MPG because of its taller stance and off road tires, that always has a negative impact.
Seems just a bit low, but with that package maybe not. My 3.0 has around 15,000 on the clock and just returned from a 1,110 road trip and I average 28.7 over those miles using the truck’s computer calc. Mine is a ‘23 Denali Ultimate and while I’m sure MPG did increase after break in, it wasn’t enough for me to notice. Great truck & engine. I had a nox sensor go around 600 miles but hasn’t had a single issue since.
Quick edit - the seats still suck, even after 15,000!
I am guessing the Denali returns better MPG being it doesn't have the slight lift and off road tires of the AT4. I was kind of shocked that the seats didn't bother me after the hour or so I drove but I will be curious to see how they are on a 3-4 hour drive.
My driving average with my Silverado 1500 Duramax is 27.5 mpg. I am in South Florida and traffic here tends to be pretty bad but I mainly drive highway.
Mine is a love hate, feels like it's spent more time in then shop then not....but I average 28-30mpg. Towing 13.7 to 14.2
I don't know about any of this stuff, but I thought I saw somewhere that there is also another additive needed for diesel engines - that would make the great MPGs moot? Im just wondering if the recommended oil changes is all that is required - like a non-diesel.
16.2 and 21.1 mpg in your Powerboost is crazy. I've never gotten less than 21 unless I was towing or hauling full loads. I also use Fuelly and after 42641 total miles recorded I have an average of 22.6 with a best of 25.2 mpg. My lowest ever was 11.7 trailering a dual axle enclosed U-Haul through the Texas Hill Country with a grand piano inside. I always used regular until the past couple months where I decided to run premium to see if there was a noticeable difference. Believe it or not, I found about .5 - 1 mpg improvement, especially when running heavy. Also, daily driving is 50/50 road/hwy, 50 mi round trip 5 days/wk. Hwy mph usually 72-73 mph. I find that the gives my particular truck the best return. I started using fuelly close to 10k miles into my ownership so it's not accounting for the full 51k miles I've got. I can also say that as the truck breaks in, it performs better and is becoming more efficient. I'm not a GM fan but give props to the 3.0 Duramax. I'd consider it if hard pressed to replace my truck. But unlike you, I've had nothing but good results with my 2021 XLT 4x4 Sport 302A High pkg F-150 and love it. It's smooth, quiet, powerful, and above all, it's been ultra reliable. The 3.0 suffers slightly in mpg anywhere above 70. 23.9 seems slightly low even then, but if you were to do that loop at 70 or 65, you'd likely see mileage on the 30s.
I had a 21 Silverado 3.0 Duramax, and I’d say the error you’re seeing in the computer is partly due to the small sample size. You will get some variation in your tank fill as well. The relatively poor mileage you’re seeing is related to your speed. Cut your speed down to 70, and then to 65 to make some comparison runs. I saw as high as 31-32 in short runs on level ground. Keep your foot out of it a bit, and you should see 26-27 or so. As it is, it appears to be considerably better than the hybrid.

I am on the fence with Sturgis, it's a giant commitment to ride that far basically requiring a week off of work to do it. It's not a no as of yet but its also not confirmed either.

Diesels do take longer to break in the mpg will go up

I have a 2023 Silverado 3.0 Duramax and if I’ll stay around 65 miles per hour I’ll get 28 plus miles per gallon if I’ll go over 70 MPH I’ll get 24 close to 25 MPG
That aligns with what I was seeing.
You have the 18's with a more aggressive tire. You won't get the mileage that the 20's and 22's will get with the more road type tire.

Yes I believe all compressors are electric these days.
Coming from the PowerBoost, what are your thoughts on idle sound/noise? The one thing I am not a fan of is the sound of a diesel idling.
Personally the diesel doesn't sound all that loud to me. If you compare it to a 6.2L you can basically swap the sound of injector ticking with the sound of diesel clacking. Of course neither are as silent as the slight hum of the Powerboost but when comparing the diesel to a gasser, I think they do an amazing job muffling the clack.
The 3.0 is really quiet compared to the heavy duty diesel engines. In the cab you might hear just a faint hint of injector clatter, a tiny big of turbo, and a deep cummins like burble.
How did you factor in your DEF costs? Even with the DEF does it come out cheaper than running premium?
It barely uses any DEF unless you're towing. Most guys get 6-7000 on a 5 gallon tank of DEF.
Cost of fuel and maintenance cost to offset the power boost. Good luck.
I would rather pay a little more for maintenance to have a reliable truck. My Ford spent WAY too much time in the shop. I calculated approximately 10% of my ownership experience was with the truck in Ford's possession at the shop.

@@PopCorn-ei5bj how do you figure. The fuel filters and oil for diesel engines are more than what you spend on a power boost. Seeings the power boost doesn’t have fuel filters. And the oil filter and oil for the boost is by far cheaper. Good try. I drive a 3.0 Duramax. I know. I was a booster owner once. Not anymore. Try again. Also the cost of fuel and def. Sorry man. The only saving grace is the 30mpg I get with mine. Had ford kept the baby power stroke I would have bought it. But I am duramax owner now. Hope it serves me as good as my old Cummins did back in the day. Second gen common rail was a great truck.

The fuel economy numbers start to climb after a couple thousand miles. The engine and differentials have to break in.

Driving at 75mpH, It's no wonder you got piss poor mileage with your F150. I get 21 to 22 in my 2021 XLT with the 5.0 by keeping it below 70. Terrain, speed and mods all play a role. You seemed disappointed at the 21 mpg with your PB but look at what you did to it..If you're concerned about gas mileage, don't mod your truck.
Multiple things to address here. 75 mph is the speed I set because the speed limit here in Phoenix is 65 mph and nobody (including me) does 70 mph with the exception of a rare few old people who are more likely to create accidents for not keeping up with the flow of 80+ mph traffic. So my tests are real world, keeping up with the flow of traffic tests. I am not trying to hyper-mile my way into an unrealistic and unsafe result. Below 70 mph in Phoenix is flat out dangerous. I am not saying I am disappointed by the 21 mpg in the PB but I am saying I was underwhelmed by the fact that I never one time got advertised MPG. Watching THIS video, you will see even with my CRAZZZY 75 mph speed, I still surpassed the EPA estimate of 23 mpg highway. So comparing the PB to the Duramax, the Duramax absolutely is better at achieving EPA estimates in a real world scenario that doesn't require me to set cruise control at put everyone on the highway in danger. If you also listened to what I said in this video, MPG isn't my only concern, I am okay taking an MPG hit from modifications BUT my goal is to minimize that hit as much as possible. I have far more faith that the Duramax will be a much better fit for that scenario based on the results of this test.
I was born and raised in Tempe and moved across the country 8 years and miss the roads/highway in the valley. The speed limit on most highways here is 60 mph and most people drive 55 mph if you're lucky and there are accidents EVERYDAY..... In Phoenix there's a method to the madness aka the flow of traffic is a thing. I remember almost everyday on my way home from work on my motorcycle I would ride halfway home with a Tempe motorcycle cop staggered going about 15 over and we would give each other the motorcycle wave as he exited the highway.
Is that what the computer is telling you?
Some people don't have the choice to drive less than 70. You'll get rammed off the road driving that slow in some areas.

It's worth it when diesel is within 20 cents of regular. I average 28 on road trips and have gotten as high as 33.7 mpg. If you compare it to trucks that require premium it's a no brainer
Is your truck lifted? Does it have oversized, knobby mud tires? This engine makes nearly 500 lb ft of torque between 1500 and 3000 RPM and gets 25 mpg before it's even broken in.

You lifted and put huge tires on the F150 what did you expect lol Diesel will always be better than gas when it comes to MPG.

@@Michael_M991 I acknowledged that I lifted it and put bigger tires on it but I also said I never saw 24 mpg as advertised before I ever did a single mod. Point is my F-150 never got close to the advertised MPG stock, the Sierra exceeded advertised mpg immediately. That isn’t insignificant. MY Powerboost was a complete failure. Nearly 10% of my ownership experience the truck was in the shop. So while I appreciate some people love their Powerboost and have no issues, my Ford experience was atrociously bad. Ford was “hands down” the worst vehicle I’ve ever owned period.
So as I said in my video, I am fine with an MPG hit after modification, I would like to minimize it. Exceeding estimates fresh out of the box is a promising indicator of being able to do so.

On some highway runs I’ve had 27/28mpg in the PB quite easily. So I’m really not sure how you were driving yours. Temps / elevation maybe? Bad fuel?
@@Michael_M991 always run premium top tier fuel from Costco. Track every fuel up with Fuelly, not just reporting dash mpg, it’s actual calculations. Ran over 35,000 tracked miles this way. Best I ever saw was 21.1. Even more damning is the averages as reported by 354 other owners tracking fuel the same way averaging 18.8-19.8 mpg which is 4 mpg lower than the 24 advertised. Feel free to to look for yourself.

The GM trucks real world reporting on the 3.0 diesel are MUCH better. So while I have no problem with people who love their Powerboosts, I do side eye anyone who watched my videos and see how unreliable my truck was, who question why I would move on to another platform completely. Ford was horrendous in terms of quality and very slow (Ford parts logistics problems, not dealers) to repair when things went wrong.

Had absolutely zero issues with my Platinum.
I think you are forgetting one super important thing. It's basically mandatory to ADD diesel additive to every tank full. Has to do with the lubricity of diesel and the high pressure fuel pump. Do some research...and decide for yourself.
