Unfortunate to see your ownership experience hasn’t been too great, there’s always gonna be a few that don’t turn out as expected. My wife and I both drive our own 3.0L Duramax Silverado’s and can’t relate to anything in this video except the lack of noise, these things are the quietest diesels I’ve owned. Both of our trucks have had no measurable oil loss between 5000 mile changes and DEF usage is almost nonexistent when we aren’t pulling anything but does increase noticeably when we hook something up. Power wise, these trucks kick ass compared to even a modern day 5.3L and are more on par with that of the 6.2L when pulling any kind of load or merging on a busy highway. Fuel economy, that’s the big ticket here, our trucks unloaded regularly achieve high 20s into the mid 30s mpg and into the high teens when pulling around 8000lbs.
I totally agree with you. The performance is great when towing and i get about 22 mpg without a load which is good considering the small lift and larger tires. The oil consumption is the killer for me, but i think something is wrong with my truck. Has to be. Thanks for the nice comment!
@bpl0807 - I've shared the same experience with my 3.0 and have not had any significant oil loss either. @SpicerDesginsLLC - Very entertaining and informative video. It's unfortunate to hear that you are having such a bad experience with the 3.0. I just wanted to share that you can pickup DEF up for about $9.00/2.5 gal at Rural King if you have one near by. I have been running the "cheap-o" DEF for a while now with no issues. As you mentioned, it's primarily water so I believe that some of these more "premium" $17 versions are just ripping us off. As for the gassers, don't get me wrong, I love V8Chevy gassers and I had a 5.3 in an older Silverado and currently have 6.2 in my C7 and they are absolutely great engines, but no way would I take either of them over the 3.0 in a truck that I daily drive. If it was a weekend warrior type truck then, I would considerate it. My only gripe is that I wish the exhaust was a lot louder and the engine had more noise. I can't even hear the exhaust unless it's in re-gen mode and I can barely hear the engine. Hell if I roll the windows down, the wind noise drowns out the engine. Other than that, I've been having a great experience with mine.
@@v8chevy788 I appreciate the comment. Glad your 3.0 is working out. I think i have a dud. Unfortunately i dont have a rural king near by. Next time im around one i will stock up as long as i still have the truck. Im going to take it to the dealer before i sell to see if the oil consumption can be addressed.
For starters, your video is corny AF.. Number 2, your truck must burn oil, because I have no issues with having to add oil. Lastly, I get about 2500 miles on full DEF … you got a lemon bro
I got the LZ0 engine and I just did 400 miles of towing a camper and lost no oil. However it ate through def and it is very quiet. I did fill my def tank up at the flying j. A lot cheaper than buying in store.
My previous truck was a 6.0 2500 HD and got around 14 mpg pulling nothing. Now I get double that. Happily satisfied with the 28 I'm getting now. Got the max tow package (13300 lbs) on it as well, which beats the 5.3 for towing. Not sure why your burning so much oil. I think the "normal" for these trucks is 1 quart per 2000 miles. Might want to get that checked out.
My 21 3.0, with 80,000 miles, is great. Not a single issue. I dont tow much. 5gal of DEF last me about every 7K miles. Pretty much oil change and DEF and drive. Consistently average 600 miles every fill up.
Mine was fairly normal when i wasnt towing. Towing is where I noticed it consuming a lot more def, fuel and oil. I understand more DEF and fuel. The oil consumption is where the concern is.
You forgot to mention the one massive advantage of the Duramax over the GM 5.3, no lifter failures caused by the AFM system. I wouldn't take a current 5.3 engine if it was $20,000 cheaper than the 3.0.
Comparing the cost of 3.0 an the oil pump drive belt cost to replace. Majority of cost being labor. Along with all the other stupid emission equipment and issues an cost that comes along with an econo diesel. Lifter issue can be a once and done with a aftermarket cam and tune at the fraction of the cost. Though I do agree I wouldn’t take the current 5.3 either. Or a newer Chevy at all. They’re going down hill big time. Plus just look at the front end and mirror placement lol Is the fad of having red tow hooks because they break down so frequently and easier for the tow truck driver to spot?
@@jemhidiahssj4114 using your truck requires red tow hooks? Buddy a stanced 2500hd or 3500hd with a real duramax would outwork one of these econoboxes all day any day. On a serious note what experience do you have with them. Do you think it’s cheap for a dealership or anyone for that matter to pull the transmission? It’s a stupid design really. They are designed over complicated and as far as quality of parts gm sure doesn’t have a very good track record lately. These 3.0 trucks are gonna be over occupying the junkyards like the older colorados and trailblazers with the 5 cylinder. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that. Just watch the engineer video discussion this engine. Once they get a little older the effort and cost of changing the belt and all the other bs repairs will outweigh the cost of just scraping is and getting another new truck.
Omg yesss i had lifter failure in my 2008 gmc and 2018 Silverado way to expensive to fix I just live with it and tho both of those trucks was good after 60k miles sometimes less it begins and is terrible long live the duramax never going back
Bought mine brand new. 60,000 miles on the dash with zero issues! The 2020s had a recall for oil consumption due to the front camshaft cover issue. Check the vin number and talk to your dealer about the recall.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC not sure where you could get the hardware for the delete. Some guys have just DIYed the particle filter and welded/fabbed the def injector location and a few other spots. Company out of Canada won’t say who but they broke the code. It’s not cheap but they have the tuning part covered. Do some digging and you’ll find it.
We have a 2022 Yukon 4x4 with the 3.0L Duramax and it's flawless, no noticeable oil consumption, power and torque are great, and MGP is crazy good, upper 20's and low 30's for most of our driving. We buy DEF at the pump at our local gas station and it's the only way we buy DEF because those jugs do suck (DEF is cheaper at the pump as well). Oil is hard to find in stores so I just order the AC Deco oil change kit online. Plus we get about 5k miles out of a tank of DEF. Where's the update video? Would like to see what your warranty/dealer has done to repair the truck. Wouldn't think "oil burn related" but those 35" tires are going to hurt the overall perform of the truck. Final drive line ratio, trans ratio's etc. are all designed around the stock tires. Yes the 10 speed trans has lots of band width to operate in but...
Ya def is cheaper at the pump. Unfortunately i dont have that option near me. Truck is going in this thursday. Threw a code for a glow plug too. My issues are mostly when im towing. Consumes a lot of oil. The tires are 33’s. Glad your having a good experience with yours. I havent givin up on mine yet.
I have a 2020 with over 120,000 miles. I've never had any of these issues. I did not tow much, but I did tow an 8,000# trailer over 1,200 miles. On that trip, my DEF use increased significantly because the motor was working so hard. I drove the entire trip, averaging 70MPH, and she didn't skip a beat. Even on that trip, I was 1/2 guart low on oil when the trip was over. Sounds to me that you may have a bigger mechanical concern with your truck, but I would not say that it's a systematic issue with the 3,0. This is the best truck I've had, and I plan to keep it forever, which is something I've never said about any of my previous trucks. All that being said, I did enjoy the video. It was entertaining and fun to watch, even though I don't agree with your assessments.
Thanks for the positive comment. I did make a follow up video addressing the bulletin causing the oil and def consumption. Faulty valve cover. You may want to check that video out to see if your valve cover is defective. May not be an issue now but it could fail.
I'll have to disagree with you on this. I bought a 2023 LZ0 1500 Sierra 4wd. The 2023 models have been upgraded with more HP and more torque. Fuel mileage for me is around 28 on highway. Diesel is around the same price as 91 octane here in Louisiana. Because of additives, I always ran high octane in my vehicles so I don't see price of diesel being an issue. I intend to keep this truck as long as I can. I think the future will see higher gas prices as the government tries to phase it out. The trucking industry will still need diesel at reasonable prices in order for inflation to be kept in check. In the long run, I think my diesel will be more economical. I don't have any oil burn issues and my DEF usage looks to be similar to what others are saying so around 1500 miles per gallon. I had no issues hauling my small trailer loaded with 3 tons of rock but didn't have to go very far. I have always been a Ford truck guy but this engine made me buy GM. So far, I am loving this truck.
Glad your having a good experience. That motor is better than the original which is what i have. There were definite issues with my motor which is likely why they redesigned it so quick. Thats more what the video is based on. I did a lot of towing with mine and it excessively ate oil. I agree they do get good fuel milage. Thanks for the comment!
My experience does not match yours. I've got a 2020 LM2 that has been flawless. Best Chevy truck I've owned. I love this engine. I'm sorry your experience has been bad.
Oil consumption is one thing, everything else is irrelevant. If you live out west the Duramax at elevation will WAY outperform the 5.3L. And that is what you are paying extra for.
@SpicerDesignsLLC I'm having my own Chevy problems, have a 3500HD dually with 43k miles, bought it with 12k mi a little over a year ago. has always had light/slightly sloppy steering, took it to them under warranty, they charged for an alignment. I "assumed " all was well with the steering after that and this truck just had very light steering, never owned such a big truck. Took it for a steering stabilizer install and found out the steering gear is bad. It's on backorder! and the repair with an idler arm will now cost me $3k! out of warranty.
A few notes since I own the newer Duramax LZO and I've been covering trucks for more than a decade. 1. You need to update the pricing. That $1,250 upcharge was when the LM2 Duramax first came out. It is just $995 now. Also, towing numbers are wrong. The LZ0 now tows 13,300 lbs. The fuel economy numbers are for a 2WD truck and yours looks to be a 4WD truck. DEF isn't that hard to fill. Never had a problem filling it. In fact, I thought it was so easy, there was nothing to talk about. Finally I don't come close to using the oil and DEF fluid you are talking about. I understand you don't like it and it isn't for you.
The video is about the experience ive had with my truck. I cant speak for the newer motor or everyone else’s trucks and they’re experiences. Or any of the updated pricing. The real problem is when i tow heavier loads. It consumes a lot of oil. It consumes a lot of def too, which is to be expected to an extent. I admit i did make some errors in regards to the truck stats. There are many options and versions of these trucks. I will be making a follow up video to address that. Thanks for the info and input. I appreciate the comment.
had a 2020 3.0 and loved it now have a 2023 towed 5000 # rv ist 1400 miles used 3 gallons def and 1/2 qt of oil. wouldn't even consider towing more that 8000# with a 1/2 ton pick-up.
I have a 21 silverado 3.0 liter. 53,000 miles and no problems. I add no oil between changes. Lots of power and super mileage. 28 to 34. Love it. You must have a lemon or the truck was abused before you got it. Good luck!
Almost the same milage as mine. I have about 56k. I actually had a gm service manager reach out because of this video. They put a team together and figured out whats wrong with my motor. It is leaking internally. Will have an update soon. Otherwise i do like the motors
My opinion from what I've been hearing GM needs to upgrade to a more thicker oil a little maybe a 5/30. If the oil is too thin it's going to find an exit and diesels use a little oil during the break in and going to use even more if you're working the truck. A lot of stopping and starting isn't good for a diesel engine either. If you're engine shuts off at a redlight that's not good because a diesel needs to idle around 10 to 15mins after you've been driving or traveling. Making it simple it's the same as putting high compression pistons in a gas engine it will vapor lock and struggle to start, a diesel has high compression pistons and does vapor lock from time to time and it'll be difficult to start but this mostly doesn't happen unless you are working it very hard for a long period of time. People need to go and learn how to take care of a diesel engine before purchasing.
I think the 3.0 needs some work. Theyre too worried about advertising the mpgs and the tow capacity. Been when you tow with it, it eats oil. I agree with your comment. I shit the auto start off as soon as i get in.
The issue is the valve cover. There is a TSB on why the valve cover is causing oil consumption. The supplier of the valve cover didn't detect that there was a defective internal weld and it allows oil to leak into a ventilation tube. That sucks the oil into the engine intake where it gets burned. That oil causes the DPF to soot up prematurely and causes excessive DEF usage. Once the new valve cover is installed, the oil consumption is pretty much eliminated.
The reason they use such a rhin oil is to meet epa fuel efficiency standards. 1/2 ton trucks are more regulated than 3/4 ton or 1 ton trucks and have to meet stricter standards. Ram has a similar issue that is oil related, engine ticking. I've heard many people start using a little bit heavier oil and the ticking goes away. In the 5.7 Ram they recommend a certain oil but in the 3/4 ton with a 5.7 they recommend a heavier oil. It's because they don't have to meet the stricter standards in the larger trucks. In other words the manufacturers are using lightweight oil to save some some money at your expense. Buy a heavier weight synthetic and I bet the oil consumption goes away.
@robertmanley6102 oil consumption was due to a defective part covered in a service bulletin effecting all LM2. So if you have an LM2 you might want to check out my follow up video. Its has over 100k views and a lot of thanks you.
I can understand how your experience has been frustrating. At the same time I borrowed a friends 5.3L 2021 model Tahoe for a test tow of my camper over 10’000 ft mountain pass in the Colorado Rockies and found it lacking compared to the sheer power in the LM2. The LM2 does not have the top in but leaves the 5.3L in its dust off the line and when towing. So for towing anything in the 5,500 Ibs or higher you really need to compare it with a 6.2L and then the 18 mpg (at best not towing) and using Premium fuel really make the match a no brainer in favor of the diesel…. Plus no bent push rods, broken springs or collapsed lifter issues.
I did the same exact mileage-costs math in 2020 between the 3.0 and 5.3 with the same increase in costs for the 3.0. I went with the 5.3 and haze ZERO regrets.
Here in California i buy my diesel for the same price as gas, i average 28 miles per gallon on my 3.0 diesel, and my def fluid lasts me from one oil change to another, about 6500 miles, so when i get the oil change they also fill up the def fluid. I haven’t added any quart of oil between oil changes. I got 16 miles per gallon towing my 29 ft trailer. It was only a $1000 up charge over the 5.3 on my RST, no reason to buy the 5.3.
Thats seems to be the pattern ive noticed in the comments. That was my main point in the video. Everyone seems to be focused on how great the milage is. Ive never bought a truck for the mpg’s. Sorry about your experience. Thanks for the comment.
I have a 2020 3.0 in an RST and I love it. 137K miles on it and 0 issues with the motor or anything oil related. Loving my 29mpg average The DexosD when it first came out I had to buy in bulk due to "covid" supply chain issues but now i can easily find it. Only issue Ive had has been that damn Ford/Chevy join 10 speed transmission where it locked up at 70k on the interstate. 2 TSBs out for it that my dealer "missed".
I have a 2022 AT4 with the 3.0 duramax for my work truck. 38k miles on 0 issues. 28-35 MPG depending on driving. This engine is amazing. I have not seen the oil consumption issue at all.
Let's see, my 2023, which just hit 1,000 miles is routinely giving me 33 mpg. (I drive like an old fart). The best part is I can tow my 5,500lb travel trailer and still get 16mpg. (2x what my F250 averaged). The oil change kit on Amazon is $81 for 7 Qts ACDelco DexosD and P066 filter. My 3.0 was a $995 upgrade, not a $2,500 one. The 6.2L gas was a 2,500 upgrade, now it's 4K ($3,890) to get one of those thirsty babies in a Silverado. Speaking of thirst, what's the MPG on the 5.3. Gas Today - (Circle K 4.79 for regular - Costco, 4.14 for Diesel) Hmmm.....
Lemme tell you something man…I own both the 6.2L (in an Escalade) and the 3.0 Duramax (in my truck) and the 6.2L is ASS compared to the 3.0 when towing. The 6.2L is constantly downshifting to maintain speed and it EATS fuel!! My enclosed dirtbike trailer gets 8.7mpg in the Escalade and 15 mpg when pulling with the 3.0. The 3.0 is never downshifting to maintain speed either. It’s a MUUUUUCH MUUUUCH better towing experience in the 3.0. So no, your little matt chart matters nothing. I hate towing in a 6.2
The point is the oil consumption and excessive def usage. You should have watched the follow up video where i proved it and provided the issue covered in a service bulletin. Tons of people affected by the defective part.
Outstanding video, funny as hell (instant subscribe) and informative. I just bought the GMC Sierra 1500 duramax, I drove 200 miles on a qtr tank of gas (montana winds helped with 100 of those miles) I'll keep extra oil and def and hope I love it down the road as much as I do now.
I would like the LZ0 too. I have a different motor. I just recently posted a follow up video with the solution to the oil and def consumption. Was a defective camshaft cover. Part of a service bulletin. A lot of other people having the same issue.
I've had and towed thousand of miles with both these motors. First off I used zero oil on trip from Texas to tennesse and back with 30ft 7000lb travel trailer and I got 13-14 miles per gallon in the deisel. I've done multiple 1000 mile round trips with the same trailer and my 5.3. I got 8-10 mpg and burned a quart every trip. Def last 7000miles without towing and 1000 miles while towing. I have 35k miles on the diesel and have never added a drop of oil. Also keep in mind that towing with the 5.3 you can only get the exploding 8sp transmission. The 10sp transmission on the diesel matched with 460 ft lb of torque makes this thing accelerate up steep tennesse hills without any effort. The 5.3 will literally overheat and need to pull over. I had to put a larger transmission cooler to make it through the bland hill country in texas while towing. Your oil consumption is not normal, I have 3 relatives with this same truck and none of us have had this issues, and 1200 miles while not towing for Def is off too. This is by far the best truck I've owned 2500 or 1500 for my needs and I love the 27mpg I get with regular highway use with big atkos
Glad youve had a good experience with yours. Unfortunately i have not. Im not the only one either. I don’t disagree that the 3.0 is a better motor. Especially for towing. I would much rather have the LZ0. Mine is going into the shop tomorrow for a glow plug fault code and to look at the oil consumption. Everyone in the comments has different numbers so its hard to say whos are correct. Just varies with driving situations. Thanks for the comment and info. Ill have a follow up soon when it gets out of the shop.
@SpicerDesignsLLC I hadn't oil drip for about 3 months that it went in and out of the shop for...it was frustrating but it turned out to be a unsealed block plug above the front crank case cover. I was pretty passed but it's the only issue I've had in 35k...only enough mine is louder than both my cousins, 1 lm2 and 1 lzo. Theirs sound like cars....mine has a little deisel clatter.
@@jma64930 i feel like mine has a little more clatter as i put miles on it. Which ive heard it will. I thought about getting an intake. Supposed to give it some more sound as well. I have no oil residue anywhere. Its burning it somehow. About a quart every 1500 miles with no trailer. Not normal. Hopefully they can resolve it
@SpicerDesignsLLC I thought about an naked fora little whistle but I'm good. Bummer about the pil...definitely not normal. Be sure the stealership is reporting this to gm and not just brushing you off. Ask them for the region gm reps info and contact them yourself. I did this when I had a tundra tyranny go out at 68000k years ago.
Sorry to hear about the issues your having. Mine has 45k on it. This appears to be a sensitive subject for the 3.0 duramax lovers. Glad im not the only one. Thanks for the comment!
They couldn’t tell where it was leaking from. They had to put dye in the oil. I love the gas mileage. The torque….but I’m terrified of it now…..haven’t ever had a vehicle this new (2021) that leaks oil worse than an old 2002 I had. So be vigilant about that oils consumption. Might be a slow leak burning off.
I know I'm late to this party. But I have a 2020 GMC Sierra with the 3.0. I don't burn any oil thankfully. And DEF is available on the pump by me at the local truck stops. So that pump DEF runs around $3.50 a gallon my last fill up but mine lasts nearly 2400 miles typically for me. The GMC Sierra doesn't do as well on the highway as the Chevy Silverado does. It's less slick but looks better imo. I get around 29 mpg if I'm on the highway but my combined mileage per 640 mile tank of fuel is 24-25mpg. Obviously it uses more DEF and fuel if I'm towing, but that's not very often for me. I'm pretty sure you've gathered that there is something up with your engine. Sorry you got a dud.
Thanks for the info. Glad your liking your truck. I just made a 1300 mile trip with a trailer. Burned a lot of oil. Ill have that video up in the next week or so. I agree i have a dud
I bought a 2023 3.0, I love the truck, switched to a KN cold air intake, and the truck has a better sound to it, although I have not worked the truck the same as you.
I would like to get a LZ0. Theyre supposed to be better. I did finally figure out whats wrong with my truck. Kind of a crazy story but it will be in an upcoming video.
Stumbled upon your channel as I’m looking into possibly getting a new Silverado. Undecided on 5.3 or 3.0… this video was definitely helpful. I used to have a 21 trail boss. Gave it in for the 23 Colorado because I’m a moron. So now going back to Silverado. I’m bummed I was hoping to hear good things about the 3.0. I’ve always wanted a diesel but this definitely helps me make up my mind. Most likely going for the 5.3. Keep the videos up, I love it
@@PurcellsProDetail thanks for the comments. I got a lot of backlash from this video. I recently posted a follow up with the service bulletin that was causing the oil and def consumption. Its bow repaired but there seems to be a lot of issues with these motors. A lot of people have really good luck too.
Hey buddy. We haven’t spoke in a few. I have a 2021 GMC Denali with the 3.0 Duramax in it. I don’t have oil burning issues at all. I have the dealership do my service stuff which is about $120 which includes the DEF. This is just once a year for me. I’ve had issues with a long start no crank and where my touch screen will shut off and reboot or something? I’m averaging about 730-750 miles per tankful but no oil burning. I use GM def and not that watery Blue Def. I love mine. Any luck selling your General? Have a blessed day.
Hey buddy! Glad your truck is working out for you. Im still undecided on what to do with mine. No luck selling the General yet. Hopefully soon. I did make a follow up video with the oil consumption too if you haven’t see it. Thanks for the feedback
@@SpicerDesignsLLC Hope you sell your general soon. I’ve been trying to sell my 2022 JD 1025r with heated cab and extras and I haven’t had any luck at all. No I haven’t seen the follow up consumption yet but I will. I heard that the oil burning issues with the 3.0 came with the 2022 and up, but thankfully it hadn’t happened.
My question is, why the hell is your motor consuming that much oil? I mean All motors actually consume oil, but to that degree... sounds like something is wrong? Now as a Heavy Mechanic that works on ford 6.0 Diesel engines, :( , Oil Consumption is no worse than a regular gas engine that is also part of the fleet. Is Oil consumption noted in the owner's manual or am I missing something?
I made a follow up video recently too. Towed 9k lbs and burned 2 quarts in 1200 miles. I know towing adds extra load to the motor cause more oil consumption but 2 quarts is crazy. The oil the spec is like water. Im sure thats a big part of the problem. To worried about advertising the fuel milage instead of building a reliable/ capable truck.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC As I said in my original message, I'm a mechanic so I had to look up TSB's this is actually a problem on the 5.3l Gas Motor as well, and if it has AFM its even worse. But chevy does have it apparently "corrected" for the newer 2023 model motor according to their TSB for the "slightly" improved 3.0 Dirtymax. But thank you for this video, I was looking into buying this truck... now I'm having second thoughts.
@@ftblhalo32 i really do like the idea of the motor. Ive heard other issues with some belt at the rear of the motor too. They advertise it for its towing and fuel milage. It can tow but bot without guzzling oil and def. Its that crappy 0w-20 oil. Its like water. I was thinking about going to the 2024 5.3 with the max tow package. Its around 12k lbs. people are deactivating the AFM to help with the lifter issues
Just a 2” rough country. 1.5” in the back. Just wanted enough for the tires to clear. I have a video of when I installed that lift. I give all the info in the description I believe.
Thanks. Theyre not all bad. Mine definitely sucks. But do your research if your interested in one. Dont go off my experience. The LZO is supposed to be a better motor than my LM2.
These figures you're using are not anywhere close to what I am getting with my 2024 GMC Sierra 3.0, I have 5200 miles on it so far and have only added one 2.5-gallon jug of Def and no oil. I am averaging 26.5 overall city and HYW. will HYW mileage of 30+. After having the GM V-8 gas engine and paying to have the top end rebuilt because of the lifters taking out the cam, I decided to go with the Deisel this time and so far I'm very impressed with everything about it.
Glad your having a good experience. The difference is at the time of that video i had about 46k miles on mine and its a different motor. 5200 miles isnt even broken in yet. You have the LZ0 and you have the LM2. I also had a defective part on my engine causing excessive oil and def consumption which has since been resolved. I just made an update video with that repair. The 3.0 is a nice motor. I just had a defect which is covered in a service bulletin.
This issue remained a mystery for a long time. GM has since resolved it with service bulletin 22-NA-027. Engines produced before a specific date leak oil into the combustion chamber, which causes a sharp increase in both oil and DEF consumption. The good news is that the service bulletin fully resolves this issue. I own one also and have no measurable oil consumption between oil changes. With this resolved, it is an awesome little engine.
I actually posted a video on that bulletin a couple months ago. The truck is now repaired. That video has a lot of views and a lot of people having the same issue.
I have a 2020 LM2 and love it. Mine does not have the crank/no-start issues either. And I like that it's quiet yet still has enough clackity clack diesel noise to satisfy me. The neighbors will not tolerate the sound of a jet engine from a turbo at 5am. The only real complaint I have with my truck is that the seats are not very comfortable. And a minor annoyance is a leaf spring clunk. I easily get 7-8k on a tank of DEF. It's much cheaper at truck stops. Just pull around to the rig lanes and fill up there. Easy for me to say though since I have multiple Love's, Pilot's, etc near me. If I'm towing something, it's simple enough to buy a jug to use and then keep and refill it at a DEF pump. I'm about due for an oil change. Did about 1600 miles of towing about 6k lbs (i70 through the Rockies I might add, and ate ~6.5 gallons of DEF, but still got 13.5MPG). The rest is just regular unloaded daily commute. Checked oil the other day and it's about half way down from full but still in the hash marks so within normal safe operating range. If yours is truly eating a quart every 500 miles, that's way way not normal. That's even far beyond normal for a new one off the lot. The 3.0's when new do consume a bit of oil before the rings are finally seated. GM adds an extra quart at the factory because of it. 1/2qt or so by the 2nd or 3rd oil change is typical. Needless to say, something with yours isn't right. I don't blame you wanting to get rid of it. Good luck.
GM claims in their service bulletin that 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles is acceptable. Well not to me, i was really looking at closing the deal on one until i saw this. My 2001 GMC with 324,000 doesn't even burn this much oil. The oil is either: 1.Burning off 2.leaking 3.Blowing past the piston rings 4.Getting sucked into the Combustion chamber through other means. I have a feeling GM knows the cause, but the fix is expensive and detremental to their already flailing reputation.
I actually had a service manager reach out from the east coast. There is a service bulletin that know one was familiar with. He found it because the internal leak took out #2 glow plug. Its a 13 hour job to repair under warranty. Waiting on the part to come in now and its getting fixed. I have another follow up video for this one but i will have one about the repair as well. It is rare so dont base your decision off my experience with my truck. I have the original 3.0 too.
If you have this issue with burning oil, The truck has a 100,000-power train warranty. I would take it to the dealer and let the dealership and GM figure it out. If they can't then it will be replaced with a new motor. Plus, you said you got this truck used with 35K on it. Did you think of the person who owned it before you did not take care of it and drove it like a nut case. Was it owned by a company who trades them in every 35k and did not care about it because it would get replaced. Or was it a truck leased by the dealership? Lots of questions.
Im actually taking it to the dealer today. Threw a code for one of the glow plugs. Previous owner could have abused it. Hard to say. I bought it from a dealer. I wish they would swap it out with the lzo.
I travel all around the country for work, and i love my 3.0 Duramax, i accepted that it eats def and the occasional Oil from the start, but still a great working truck, tows anything i need it to, and drives smooths!
Glad to hear your having a good experience with your truck. I joke a lot but i dont think theyre all bad. Fuel milage is good. My issues are mostly when i tow. Other than that its does pretty good. Thanks for the comment!
The 3.0 is not for everyone but I own one and tow regularly. 6000lbs. I use 1 quart of oil in 5000 miles and a 2.5 gallon jug in that amount of miles. May or may not do this engine again but that’s because I may go to a 3/4 ton next and for delete purposes. But I will say you got a bad engine. No way you should use a quart for 500 miles in towing and the DEF consumption you state. I would sell it too…
I own a 2023 with the LZO. No oil eating problems here. But I also ignored the weird breakin procedures referenced in the manual. I babied the first 200 miles, but after that I used the gear shifter to seat the rings. At 1000 miles I pulled a 6000 lb trailer for 500 miles. At 2000 miles, I started playing with the Sport mode every now and then to take RPMs up to 4500/5000 on 3rd and 4th gear pulls. No oil burning problems here. Sorry this happened to you. How did you breakin your truck?
Thanks for the comment. Ive heard the lz0 is a much better motor. I have the lm2. I bought it with 35k on it. Had 45k in that video. Its definitely broke in. Im going to have an update video soon. A lot of people think i was making this up. I wish i were. Glad your having a good experience with your truck.
I've heard the lzo is the one burning more oil these days. I think it varies...I towed my trailer with my lm2 300 miles the day I bought my truck lol...haven't had any issues....not sure about first 5k miles as I burned through them but I never added oil and got an oil change around 5k. I tow 7k lbs monthly and smaller trailer in between...maybe 3k lbs....I have never seen a difference on my dipstick. Lol!
I didnt do individual tests. I have a couple of follow up videos on this one. One of them is the solution for the oil consumption issue. I had an issue with my engine causing it to burn oil.
I love this truck, I’ve owned every truck brand and engine and so far this truck has been my favorite. Your review of the truck didn’t seem that bad and if struggling to put def in your truck is your criticism you might as well add all diese trucks to your review. Thank you for the video
Glad your having a good experience with your truck. Mine just like to eat oil. Def definitely sucks and its not very good for the motors but I understand its all part of it now. Thanks for the positive comment. Ill have an update soon with some proof of oil consumption.
I just got one and so far I’ve had nothing but problems, there’s something wrong with the fuel system that started with the pump control module so I replaced that and the codes still popping up and nobody knows what’s wrong
Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Mine is fixed now. I made a follow up video with the service bulletin. I still have mixed feelings about this motor
Im not sure. Ive never looked into it. I would assume so but im just guessing. I would recommend asking Demonworks. His channel is all about the 3.0 and hes a diesel tech for gm
Just took a 1200 mile trip hauling a mini excavator 600 miles of it. Burned almost 2 quarts. Just took it to chevy. They didnt care. They want me to bring it in every 1000 miles. Only if they service it though.
Sad what has happened to GM . I actually hit your channel by searching the 3.0's reliability . There are a few others on YT who have this problem also . I was considering it , but not anymore . Stay safe out there ... @@SpicerDesignsLLC

I have a 2021 Silverado 1500 LTZ with a 3.0 Duramax turbo diesel. It has 31,000 miles on it. I have heard all the stories about this engine burning oil. It got me worried. So, I check the oil level often. Oil level is ALWAYS sitting on the full line. I use PPE oil filters and Amsoil 0-20W oil. For DEF fluid, I buy it @ Bucee's gas stations for $9.98 per 2.5 gallon container. Maybe the engine in your truck is a lemon. Being that its a mechanical component, it happens sometimes.
@SpicerDesignsLLC I feel your pain, my dude. I know perfectly well what it feels like to work your ass off to buy something new and then find out it has issues, and it has nothing to do with anything you've done. Hopefully, you can find a solution. Sooner than later. 👍✌️
I bought mine Christmas eve 2022 it's now September 22 2023 I still have half tank of the original def they filled it with.i did my first oil change at 2000 miles I now have 4000 miles on it and have no oil consumption. I do not tow tho
Good points. The economics of it must work for it to make sense. The 2500 added premium when new is it really there when you go to sell it? I'm thinking 6.2 is the motor to get but will come at the cost of being thirsty and I see that its also best to feed it premium gas too.
Right! I like the 6.2 but the premium is as much or more than diesel. I might go to the 24 5.3. They raised the max tow to 12k and id deactivate the AFM to help with lifter issues. I did make a follow up video on this proving the towing issues.
It will go into limp mode. Will take the truck down in stages all the way to 5mph. You cant run them without it unless you delete it. But thats pretty expensive and voids the warranty.
I have a 2023 3.0L durmax and the turbo failed with only 40k miles. Still under warranty and at the dealership for over a month with no known fix date. Very frustrated. Anybody else had this experience?
I have a 2022 LM2 GMC Sierra and absolutely love it. Zero issues and my mileage just amazing. I change oil every 5K miles and it has used absolutely nothing between changes. DEF fluid usage not towing about one 2.5 jug every 5K miles.
Thats great! Your having better luck then i am. Towing is where i really noticed the oil consumption. Otherwise i only have to add a quart every 1k or so. Theres a lot of forums with people having the same issue. Thanks for the comment
Ya thats the max tow. Its not a very common option to see on those trucks. I made a couple update videos where i cleared up some numbers and provided the reason for oil and def consumption.
In all fairness i do think i have a lemon. There were corrections made to the new LZO. But at the end of the day no one really has any long term info on these motors. I loved the 6.2 when i had it. Was a fun truck, tons of power. I was researching gm’s most reliable motors today and the 6.2 L86 and L87 was one of them. I know a lot of people arent a fan of the active fuel management and dynamic fuel management but they have programmers that can turn that off. My videos probably not the best to help with your decision. I just had a bad experience. I will have a part two with more info soon.
Thanks for the sub. Check out the comments. There are a handful of guys having the same issue. The ones i pissed off seem to be having better luck with theres.
I tow 8,000lbs and I have had a 2016 and 2018 5.3 and now a 2021 Duramax 3.0, all crew cab short beds. 2018 tossed a AFM lifter at 40k miles while towing hours from home, which was an absolute nightmare to get the trailer handled while stranded. I will never go back to a gas engine for towing, especially the 5.3. The 3.0 makes most of that torque at 1200rpm and just cruises in the mountains, where the 5.3 would be shifting like crazy and screaming. I also average 25-26mpg in every day driving and have been well over 30mpg on highway trips while unloaded. Also the 3.0 is now rated to tow over 13k, not 9k. There is no advantage to the gas engine other than the fact that it sounds better. I have no issues getting Dexos-D in NJ and DEF at a pump is about $4.50 a gallon, a full 4 gallon tank lasts thousands of miles.
Thats great. I made a follow up video on this. In 22 they increased the tow capabilities to 13,300lbs. The max tow before that is 9300lbs. So that info is correct for my truck. Im bot saying the 5.3 is the answer. My issue is my truck eats oil. The follow up video proves it. The new 5.3 has a max tow of 12k. Deactivating the AFM will help with the lifter issue. No engine is perfect. I do like the 3.0 but i think they need to worry less about the mpg’s and more about performance. As in oil consumption and def consumption while towing. I am glad to hear your 3.0 is working out for you. Mines junk
Since you were introduced by one eye I have watched every one of your terrific videos and hit the like button. With that said the number of likes are lower whenever your beautiful assistant is not in the video. I thought that the last sentence would get your attention.😎😄😃😁🤣😅😂😀😆🤔❤
Check the dip on those on the lot > seem to be all over filled. Supposedly this is to seal some rings during the first oil run and seals don't seat until 5k break in
Ya ive read that they add an extra quart for break in. Mine has over 50k so its beyond broke in. I dont understand how engines 2020 or later consume that much oil in a truck that costs $55k - $80k.
@@federal6616 i think im just going to get a 24 with the 5.3 and max tow package. Ive heard if you deactivate the AFM it will basically eliminate the lifter issues.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC Yea. I think there are some 23s floating out there without it. I like the idea of the diesel, but if it can't keep a fuel pump and some belt in the rear of the engine beyond 100k - I'm skeptical of the build
You cant blame GM for the emisions that plague diesel engines. Blame the EPA and its effort to fight global warming... LOL at the tune of $5,000,000,000 a year in US carbon tax.
Got the 23 Yukon 3.0 … no problems here. GM does say you’ll be burning 1qt of oil when towing per 1000 miles or something like that. It’s normal so watch your def and oil when towing heavy
I have about 94,000 on my 2020 LM2. No noticeable oil lost between changes. Great MPG, over 30 @ 70 MPH. Just towed an Escalade 160 miles, with another engine in the bed of my truck, and averaged 19.7 MPG. Towed it on a flat bed U-Haul trailer.
Im glad your not having any issues. They actually found the problem. Theres a service bulletin with a defective part and i have it. Ill have an update video soon.
I posted a couple follow up videos with the oil consumption. Turned out theres a Bulletin that addresses a defective valve cover. Im looking to get out of these truck even now that its fixed.
Heres my thoughts.. Doesn't matter what you buy for a chevy engine.. Diesel may go through oil. But also my 2018 5.3 with 80xxx miles burns oil. And that is due to the crappy afm setup. On mine the rings on the cylinders for cylinder deactivation, carboned up and then you have oil blowby.. So my 5.3 is going through a quart of oil every 2000-3000 miles. Only way around it is to buy a delete afm kit. Which is different lifters and stuff. Others have had issues with the springs on the lifters sticking and allowing oil blow out the tailpipe.
I've got to put this comment in for your own good . I have a couple of vehicles that call for 20 weight and I will not put that in an engine that I own. Also I have a 19 model 2.8 Duramax that suggests 30 weight oil, and not the D rating... Just bought her 5 years old and she's perfectly great so far. Started off with the 2000 mile trip home. I used 10w 30 diesel oil. T6 soon as I got her home. zr2
@@CharlesDonaldson-oz2dl had a defective valve cover. I covered the service bulletin addressing this in a follow up video. Turns out a lot of people are having this issue.
My 2024 3.0 is AMAZING!! I love this truck. First time I have owned a diesel, and I got it because the gas mileage and trade in value and long-term reliability. Mine doesn't burn oil at all and I get 500 to 600 miles a tank and have to put Def in every 4 or 5 full tanks. Plus it's 100,000 mile warranty from GM. Win win. P.S I don't tow much thou. Great video
I made a follow up video about the oil consumption too. The LZ0 is supposed to be pretty nice. Congrats on your purchase. Hopefully they worked out all the kinks.
Ok, watching this for the second time. I just think some of the criticisms here have too many variables. Lets talk DEF, like for example DEF is sold at many different retailers and at the pump here locally so price COULD be lower. Then if you tune or delete you've opened a whole universe of increased fuel mileage and no DEF purchase. Of course you have to factor the cost of the tune or delete. Lifespan and maintenance vs the gas motor? You don't have to buy that oil just those specs. Fuel cost, the cost of diesel widely swings thus we cant go with the hard $4.50? It was below $4 this last spring and summer till recently. Mildly curious on your thought on the second generation now in the 23's, still the same?
I agree. Looking back at that video I didnt do the greatest job comparing it to the gas because of all the different options for these trucks and motors. The video was supposed to be about my experience with my LM2 which i wasnt as clear as i should have been. Def is definitely cheaper at the pump if thats an option for people. For me its not. Nothing close to where i live. My main issue is with the oil consumption and towing. Its going into the shop this Thursday. Through a code for a glow plug now. Im not giving up on it yet. I do believe the LzO is a way better motor. I would love to swap it with one of them. As far as a tune and delete, They are pricey and with the 5 year 100k warranty on these motors, i would hate to void that.
yeah i'm just purchasing a 2020, and it has one year on the warranty and then off to a performance shop. Like you id love to swap, for the LZO but ill have to make due, the cost of a new truck, insane. @@SpicerDesignsLLC
When I first got my truck with the 3.0 duramax i noticed it was loosing oil long story short the oil filters on these trucks have to be tighten really hard or they will get loose because of the vibration of the diesel engine after I did the oil change and put on the new filter I cranked on it with both hands and haven’t had an issue since.. best purchase ever in my opinion
I am in the market for a new truck and honestly I am so confused with this 3.0 I had high hopes because I didn't know of all the other extras to consider. Now I have a Painting Company I mainly use it to pull 7x14 trailer nothing to crazy in it other than some paint and supplies etc let's say its 3000-5000# I don't do it often as mainly I use my truck for estimates and here and there pull I would say my driving is 70% city 30% Highway how good are they in city driving and is it worth for me to switch ? Thank You for understanding ..
The 3.0 is not a bad motor. I actually had a defective part on mine which I literally just got fixed. Ill have an update video soon. Not to mention the new LZ0 has a lot of improvements. It may be a good fit for you.
Most oil loss issues were due to a possible defective part on a some trucks which GM acknowledged and will fix. I have the ‘23 3.0 LZO and I love it, no issues and no oil consumption.
05' Toyota Matrix, 1.8L 1ZZ-FE 200,000kms. Uses no oil. Regular maintenance stuff. and I replaced the factory battery at year 2018. [ouch] Like, $130.00 Did some reading on the 3.0L Duro and there are a few major issues with it. I do not like the belt driven oil pump, not at all. Who designs stuff like that? Remove the CAB to change a Cam Sensor! [or was that crank sensor] Whatever. Enjoy.
I have 45k miles on my GMC Sierra 3.0L Duramax. It’s not using oil like you described. I don’t have to add any additional oil between oil changes. As far as the DEF goes, you can save a lot of money buying DEF at the pump at a truck stop. It’s usually just above 3 bucks a gallon where I’m at. That means it only costs about 15-16 bucks to fill up. Not 60. I like this engine so much that I am looking to buy a Yukon or Escalade with the same engine in it for my wife.
Glad to hear your having a good experience with your duramax. Im actually posting another video Saturday. Finally found the issue with the oil consumption and is now repaired.. also ive done some research on pump def and heard and read its not good. Its causing issues to the emission systems. So ive just been sticking with the def in a box.
@jeanclaude7018 not yet. Toyota is very dedicated to fixing issues - but the tundra has been out since November of 2021 or 2022 - so I’m pretty sad it’s not squared away yet. I sat in a new sequoia TRD pro and it was squeaky, flimsy, and uncomfortable. Didn’t feel nearly as durable as my 2008 sequoia 5.7L. Even my 2022 rav4 feels better built than the new tundra and sequoia. I would buy a gx460 if I needed a solid 4x4 right now for an SUV, or a 2018-2021 tundra for a truck - or maybe a 2021-2024 Nissan Titan. Solid choice.
Apparently the LM0 Version still has the DEF usage and oil burning problems see Pickup truck and SUV talks videos. I think the problem is that stupid thin Oil!
I own the 2.8l pile of shit. It don’t seam to use oil but can’t drive it 10k without the check engine light coming on. Just turned 50k and it’s back on. Has spent months at the dealer.
Sorry to hear that. Not familiar with that motor. I finally figured out whats wrong with mine. Ill have an update video coming sometime. Waiting for parts.
I change my oil every 5k and always top off my def then. Never had to do it any sooner. However I dont tow very much either. I brought this truck for one reason and one reason only MPG’s. So far nothing beats it
With the 5.3 all you need to worry about is putting gas in it.... oh and not bending pushrods. I haven't heard about this much oil consumption but it is expensive. And you will use def towing.
Check out the oil consumption solution here: th-cam.com/video/5qiGOp9-u-Y/w-d-xo.html
Me too lol
Agreed lol.
I get my DEF at tractor supply when on sale for less than $8 per 2.5 gallon jug.

Is the fad of having red tow hooks because they break down so frequently and easier for the tow truck driver to spot?

Are you just reciting what you have heard or have actual proof?
Immediately liked this at "and if you don't like our videos, well, I don't really care"
Haha. Just laying it out there ya know.
I agree. Just took it to chevy. They gave me a run around about the oil consumption. Basically wont do anything about it or even look at it.
@@mfstr yikes. Thats A big expense for low miles.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC Exactly!! it's a 2021.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC mistakes are easy to do with video. Trust me, I know. I’d just add the model year or LM2 to your title and call it a day.
had a 2020 3.0 and loved it now have a 2023 towed 5000 # rv ist 1400 miles used 3 gallons def and 1/2 qt of oil. wouldn't even consider towing more that 8000# with a 1/2 ton pick-up.
@hochhaul i made an update video covering that bulletin. The truck is now repaired.
My lzo engine has bin fantastic no oil consumption and def consumption almost unnoticeable fuel mpg 27-36 mpg
Ive heard they are a lot better. I get 23 on the highway. I do have a 2” lift and 33’s which dont help. Glad your liking the LzO
I agree. Performance is fine with the lm2. Even better now with the lzo. Mine just burns a lot of oil when towing
Funny all the people that dont have issues dont tow. Mine blew up before 10k miles
Loving my 29mpg average
The DexosD when it first came out I had to buy in bulk due to "covid" supply chain issues but now i can easily find it.
Only issue Ive had has been that damn Ford/Chevy join 10 speed transmission where it locked up at 70k on the interstate. 2 TSBs out for it that my dealer "missed".
Glad to hear your having better luck with yours. The oil consumption is my biggest problem with it.
Where are you located Jim? Rare to see gas higher than diesel. Especially $0.65 higher.
I’ve seen gas higher than diesel in Ohio
Here in North Port, FL reg gas is $3.35 and diesel $3.38 at circle K
Western Canada diesel is much cheaper than gasoline in the summer
Glad you enjoyed. They arent bad engines, ive just had a bad experience with mine. Mostly with towing. Thanks for the comment!
I just purchased the 2007 2500HD duramax diesel...pre- emissions......I m very happy....NO DEF or enviro shit.
Love my LZ0 , no oil loss def around every 7k miles . Have only used amsoil since the first oil change .
I would like the LZ0 too. I have a different motor. I just recently posted a follow up video with the solution to the oil and def consumption. Was a defective camshaft cover. Part of a service bulletin. A lot of other people having the same issue.
I’ve got a 2022 3.0 TrailBoss. Absolutely love it! Sorry to hear your experience.
I appreciate that. Ive decided to not give up on it yet. Going to take it to the dealer. I love the trailboss. Great truck
My 3.0 with 33k miles leaks oil like a knife wound. They just replaced the valve cover gasket. Had it a week. Brought it home. Still leaking. Awesome.
So, how would it compare if you did delete and tune your truck?
Idk. I would be interested in doing that. I havent seen any deletes for this motor yet.
Nice to know all of that. I have a Silverado with the 5.3 with 208000 miles on it and still going strong. Well taken care of, of course.
what year?
2012@@gchavez43096
What lift is on there
Just a 2” rough country. 1.5” in the back. Just wanted enough for the tires to clear. I have a video of when I installed that lift. I give all the info in the description I believe.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC ok thanks I am going to order one of these. Can’t beat the towing with the max tow package 13,000lbs.
@@BigBlueRacing the new LZ0 is a much better motor than the one i have. They arent a bad option. Ill have a follow up video in the next week or so.
Thank u 4 this video, the information is worth it.
Had none of the oil problems that you did. I think you got a bad engine
Good luck.
Yeah they need to make the seats a little thicker . Like sitting on a wooden chair .
GM claims in their service bulletin that 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles is acceptable. Well not to me, i was really looking at closing the deal on one until i saw this. My 2001 GMC with 324,000 doesn't even burn this much oil.
The oil is either:
1.Burning off
2.leaking
3.Blowing past the piston rings
4.Getting sucked into the Combustion chamber through other means.
I would sell it too…
I recently posted a video with the fix. It had a defective part. Still testing to verify the consumption issues are gone
Lol!
I absolutely love mine!!!! The dealer does my oil change for $66.00 and they top off the def. I never had to add oil between changes.
What kind of cost comparison #’s were you getting when you run the HWY numbers vs the city numbers ?
I didnt do individual tests. I have a couple of follow up videos on this one. One of them is the solution for the oil consumption issue. I had an issue with my engine causing it to burn oil.
Video was great. All concerns. But just give us your chicks only fans link. Rock on.
Thanks. my wife doest have an only fans.
I can loan you some money for def bud?
I just got one and so far I’ve had nothing but problems, there’s something wrong with the fuel system that started with the pump control module so I replaced that and the codes still popping up and nobody knows what’s wrong
Only 22k miles on it
Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear that. Mine is fixed now. I made a follow up video with the service bulletin. I still have mixed feelings about this motor
Is there an in tank fuel pump on the 3.0l duramax? I can’t find anything about it online but the fuel system diagram shows one
Im not sure. Ive never looked into it. I would assume so but im just guessing. I would recommend asking Demonworks. His channel is all about the 3.0 and hes a diesel tech for gm
I can’t speak in your what 2020 but my 2023 gets about 5k (Non-Towing) miles before I need to fill up my DEF.
Here is what this Hoosier has to say about that 3.0 ... F that !!
Because having to throw in 8 quarts of oil between 5,000 mile oil changes is so F'n reasonable . Almost $100 extra dollars .. nope !
@@indycharlie well the Lz0 is supposed to be better. I dont know what to do anymore.
I don't have the need to tow as you . I am seriously considering a Titan . Staying GM , I don't know either . BTW . Your daughter is stupid cute ! Go BIG RED !
Great info! Ya i think my engine is definitely jacked up
@SpicerDesignsLLC I feel your pain, my dude. I know perfectly well what it feels like to work your ass off to buy something new and then find out it has issues, and it has nothing to do with anything you've done. Hopefully, you can find a solution. Sooner than later. 👍✌️
If you read the owners manual you will find that the first 5k miles it consumes oil as part of the break in process
Truck had 45000 when i moved and made that video after all the towing. Its definitely broke in. Thanks for that info though. Good to know.
I bought the wife a suburban, really wanted the 3.0 but they are impossible to find, and I couldn't wait 6 months for one
The LZ0 is a much better motor. Finally got my oil consumption issue resolved. Update video coming soon
How much power do they cut without def. What is the ecu doing to cut the power
It will go into limp mode. Will take the truck down in stages all the way to 5mph. You cant run them without it unless you delete it. But thats pretty expensive and voids the warranty.
Love how it was made funny and informative
Theres a follow up video regarding the consumption issues too. Not sure if you checked it out.
I have a 2023 3.0L durmax and the turbo failed with only 40k miles. Still under warranty and at the dealership for over a month with no known fix date. Very frustrated. Anybody else had this experience?
No turbo issues but i did post a video with the oil and def consumption solution.
Lots of prone to problems 2020 to 2022 .... 2023 fixed a lot of problems... thank god
I did make a follow up video too. Did a towing test. Ive heard the LZO still has oil consumption when towing. Hopefully not.
I'm confused chevy says that the Duramax tow 11,500 as well
Ya thats the max tow. Its not a very common option to see on those trucks. I made a couple update videos where i cleared up some numbers and provided the reason for oil and def consumption.
Have not towed yet.
But on my day to day. I am happy with my 2021 LM2.
Sorry to hear that it is a piece of shit, cause I was thinking bout buying one!! What's ur thoughts on the 6.2 motor?
In all fairness i do think i have a lemon. There were corrections made to the new LZO. But at the end of the day no one really has any long term info on these motors. I loved the 6.2 when i had it. Was a fun truck, tons of power. I was researching gm’s most reliable motors today and the 6.2 L86 and L87 was one of them. I know a lot of people arent a fan of the active fuel management and dynamic fuel management but they have programmers that can turn that off. My videos probably not the best to help with your decision. I just had a bad experience. I will have a part two with more info soon.
Definitely worth subscribed. I was gonna get this truck until I see this video . Thanks
Ya no one likes looking at me much.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC ok. I checked 3 gmc types a week ago and got spooked by that. I'll wait a bit longer.
Does the Duramax have cylinder deactivation?
I dont believe it does
No
I love my 3.0 LZ0 Duramax in my 2024 ZR2. Great MPG, doesn’t use oil. 1 gal DEF per 1000 miles. I love Chevys, owned many, very few problems.
@@RussellFrench-f8r glad to hear that. I love gm too. I posted an update on this issue. Had a defective part with a lot of people affected.
Im really glad i see you video, i really was thinking on getting one, but no more🙅🙅😂😂
I posted a couple follow up videos with the oil consumption.
6l gas 2500 hd here hook up 9500lbs to each then do mpg comparision 9500lbs gas mpg cuts in half
I posted a video with the affected service bulletin. Defective valve cover. Lots of people with the same issue.
My 21 Silverado had 0 issues sense day one I am at 50k miles my 19 5.3 had a lot of issues and it sucked at towing.
Me smiling in my 2008 5.7 Toyota with 212k miles and zero issues.
@jeanclaude7018 haha fact!!! 14-19 mpg kills me sometimes haha
@jeanclaude7018 yup. I can get 19 cruising at 60 mpg.
But mine is a rwd sequoia also.
@jeanclaude7018 yup. I haven’t needed it once haha. I have a 2022 AWD rav4 XSE so if I need traction I just steal my wife’s keys. Hahahaha
@jeanclaude7018 I think if I had to go get a 4x4 today, it would be the Lexus gx460 2022 or newer. Can get one around $45-55k.
@jeanclaude7018 not yet.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC 2.8 is the crap pile in the Colorado Duramax diesel. So many problems the last year was 2022.
I change my oil every 5k and always top off my def then. Never had to do it any sooner. However I dont tow very much either. I brought this truck for one reason and one reason only MPG’s. So far nothing beats it
It does get good mpg
With the 5.3 all you need to worry about is putting gas in it.... oh and not bending pushrods.
I haven't heard about this much oil consumption but it is expensive. And you will use def towing.
