I'm having some issues with my tech at the moment so not sure I'll be streaming but I'll definitely try to get it going... if it works I'll try to run for a few hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Crazy stuff. Obviously ran well in terms of dice rolls to have a shot but I didn't think I'd be able to pull it off when things got tight towards the end.
I would have been interested to know how many times 7 was rolled. One of the funniest moments was when you put the robber on the desert right after your last two cards were stolen one after another. If you steal nothing, no one can take anything away from you, after all!
We can calculate the number of 7s based on the number of cards that were stolen minus the number of knights that were played, so 27-13=14 times that the 7 rolled.

In that regard I was actually quite lucky since I rolled 8 of them.

Just go for 1 dev card every time you hold all your cards near the end. Vp is Instant win, yop and mono 99% win one turn later. Knights also help even if they were nearly all gone. Road build is shit, but That’s one card out of maybe 5-7

Fair call MK, I think I was fixated on the idea of settling that I wasn't fully considering the benefits I might get from a dev card.
My assessment was that there were no more VPs left in the deck, which I mention at some point during the game (and turned out to be correct).
Also, in both of the instances that you mention I had 5 Ore + 1 Wheat + 1 Brick in hand, so I'm basically trading it all in for 1 dev + holding just the Brick, which is likely to get stolen. With that in mind I'm honestly not sure which path makes it more likely for me to get that final point and the win.

@@TryNiceGames i get your point. Still my opinion is to better get rid of your cards considering i have to fear monos and being robbed all the time. Both options are ok for me :-)
Blue should have placed first settle on 5/9/10 and point to wheat port. Forces red to place 8/4/3 and 6/4/3. Then blue place 6/5/11. Way more balanced set up for blue. Also orange trolled by not placing 6/9/3 first obviously the best spot on the board.
Quite a memorable game! Although at the end it was all on the dice. This game challenges Dylighted's assessment that Catan is not a game of luck. 😃
I've talked about this topic a few times on stream and my general take is that Catan is very much like 'Tournament Poker' in the sense that you can get very lucky in one game, but in the long run the best players will win more consistantly.
Another way to put it is that even mediocre players are going to win 10-20% of their games against solid competition.

@@JohnSmithEx The game is something like 80% skill and 20% luck. They came up with this number by using long term win rates as a minimum value for the skill ceiling. There are top players on CU with 70% win rates over hundreds of games against random opponents. But clearly there is still room to improve so 80% seems like a reasonable estimate.
