Can't let it end holding your mono. I know you were waiting for the jackpot, but I think you should've taken all the ore after you stole the wheat from red. It would have been at leadt 4 ore which at least buys 1 more dev which could have given you army in one more orbit.

Not sure I had a good spot for my mono before the other mono came out, but after it did I think I just felt a bit deflated and was hoping I might have an opportunity to do something a bit more exciting.

2:00 Why not go 9/6/3 point to the sheep port as your first pick. 4th can't block off the 6 ore so you will get one of the spots you're considering as 3rd pick as 5th pick anyways.
And seeing how 4th placed now I think he misplaced. 9/6/3 should not have been available for you as 2nd pick I think.
Why wouldn't 4:th have been able to block off the 6 ore? 6-11-5 and 4-6-11 is definitly a possible option. Ofc the 6 ore would end up being blocked quite alot, but it would still have been a decent setup.

I don't disagree with your idea but I think the best spot around the 6 Ore was the 4/11/6 that I took, with the expectation that I will get a good spot around the 9 Wheat as my second pick.
Getting the 9/6/3 was a bonus, but the other two options that I pointed out during the placements/setup were pretty decent for me as well.
This is one of those games that I would like to run a few more times to see what percentage of the time I would win if the dice roll differently and the dev card deck is reshuffled, etc.
Agree, 9/6/3 seems to be the best pick for 3rd here. If you get 6/11/5, you have an absolute monster setup. If you get 4/6/11, you have a very decent setup with quick access to the sheep and 3:1 ports. In the worst case, 4th locks the 6 ore for a not so great setup, leaving you the 4/8/10 for a decent high production strategy with the sheep and wood port. Taking the 4/6/11 first guarantees you a decent setup, but not necessarily a winning one on this board.
