      @Hunter Smith it is commonly known and accepted that Rome fell more from internal strife, corruption and decay than it EVER did from external enemies. Once the "soul" of Rome had died, and Germanic peoples started becoming more and more numerous in the Roman Legions, Rome was no longer protected by armies that sought to protect her out of loyalty. And once that happened and after the Roman Empire was split in half, the western half (the original homeland) soon lost much of it's remaining wealth and power.

      @@gabrielharris8043 100 percent correct. Rome fell absolutely from within. It's corruption, greed and murderous bid to seek power completely destroyed it. By the end, it couldn't pay it's soldiers, most of which were hired from Germanic lands and they revolted.

      How do you know that was the real liberty bell, Not some copy left behind by the mountain men it's to make you think when we see the flash backs on the early days of the Nazi occupation what could be just fakes and copies or the ones got dismantled and all the parts of statues or mountments that can be saved and got sent to Mexico for storage until America can be liberated.

      The whole point of Himmler's "Jahr Null" is a severing of the past and an embracing of the future. think of it like the young Party members in 1984: they won't be inclined to revolt or bring back some "glorious past" because it never existed for them. all they know is the Party.
      erasing the symbols of that glorious past is part of the scheme. it's a long game played by dictators and power players to try and cement their legacy and rule.

      Hitler was dead by this point. His goons were now free to enact a more extremist agenda. This project was designed to wipe out any traces of the pre-Reich world to stifle resistance to their rule. You can't fight for the world that came before if you don't know what it was or even if there was one at all. Also, the Liberty Bell and the Statue were more than art. They were symbols of a free and independent nation and thus of resistance. And the sculptor of the SoL was a Freemason. Big no-no in the Reich.

      The Nazis had SS officers assigned to take over parts of the USA. They were to study the region and ensure that all vestiges of American history were destroyed. This is very in line with Nazi tactics, destruction of statues, etc. only they would have done sooner. It’s hard to watch but I wonder how many “Americans” enjoyed these scenes.

    The Japanese actually did this with their own historic bells during the war - hundreds of Buddhist temple bells, centuries-old masterpieces of metalwork, melted down for weapons and ammunition.

    I once read a book, In The Presence of Mine Enemies. In it, one of the characters visit the Reich war museum in Berlin and views the radioactive remains of the Liberty Bell...behind thick leaded glass of course lol. Just goes to show you what a powerful symbol it is. You can find it in the oddest places.

      From a historical perspective, I do find Man in the High Castle annoying simply because of the impossible nature of a Nazi occupation of America, or even much of Europe (let alone huge chunks of the Middle East and South America). I think it much more likely that Germany would have various puppet/client rulers in Europe and rule in the same way that the US exercises its authority in the world, just with more warcimes and horrific genocide.

    When I first saw this scene it was fascinating the emotional reaction it gave to me. As an American, I honestly don't care about the Liberty Bell. In the sense that if tomorrow I heard on the news that it had fallen to bits or was stolen or something, I'd mostly go "Huh, that sucks. Oh well." and then probably never think about it again. And yet the first time I watched this...my blood was BOILING with rage. Such an outstanding show!

      Difference is that in china most of the symbols that were destroyed during the cultural revolution were symbols of the old dynastic regime and were thus symbols of oppression so not rlly a fair comparison

Not saying for a moment that the Soviet regime was a noble one, but the symbolism that they destroyed wasn't representative of democracy; just a different dictatorship. The Russian Empire and it's policies against various groups of people, while not nearly as vast in terms of scale as the atrocities committed by the Soviets, was far nastier in terms of ideology that what the Soviets did. Based on discrimination vs. just straight-up conformity.

      It didn't? There was never a point when Germany was more powerful than the United States. Germany were the theoretical underdogs the whole time. When fighting France, when fighting the Soviets, and to a lesser extent, the British Empire. But WW1 had ensured that Germany wouldn't resurface as a threat to the US for at least another decade.

Symbolizing American independence from Great Britain, and how freedom would start to spread. Do we ignore the flaws of the past? No. That doesn't mean we can't see the good that happened though. Good and bad alike we must recognize, and the Liberty Bell is a symbol of the good.

After freeing blacks and after WW 2, the white Americans were so shocked by the horrors of the war that they grudgingly gave more rights to blacks so they could leverage their power internationally and appear benevolent. But nowadays they've substituted the plantations for prisons. It's an hateful symbol. That "freedom" you talk about was mostly from black struggles. White history in the US is one of oppression. If anything the NAZI learnt from America.

Again though, America has been working constantly to try to be better, meanwhile Nazi Germany made no effort to be better.     I really hate this! I’m from Philly born & raised my ancestors & family pictures were taken with this bell and the Statue of Liberty. I believe certain things don’t need to dramatized on tv to make a point even though it’s a show. Reading thru these comments I never thought this type of thing is still so praised (hatred & evil, bigotry) all that happened in Europe during the Holocaust, Hitler is still revered as some kind of superstar! It’s crazy to say the least.

      Thats the cart where the surrender condition of the 1971 german empire were signed right? Given that this car was the congregation place of the very few people that can directly be blamed for _both_ world wars (since the 2nd one was caused by the treaty being so dickish), I'd say the reaction was, retroactively speaking of course, appropriate in the context of spitting on the grave of these people.

    I tried watching that show but I couldn't suspend my disbelief to enjoy it.
    With all the strategic mistakes made because he was ignorant of any education in the subject, he alone made it impossible for the axis powers to win. That combined with the Japanese short sighted strategy of bringing the US into the war inspite of what they knew to be the industrial might of the USA doomed the axis powers to ultimate defeat.
