Actually in the book one of the Japanese generals crossed over to our world and back though there was no tech involved in the book just an artist making trinkets that aided in meditation and let him cross over after reading a sci-fi book on a world where the allies won the war

Mengele was an anthropologist and a doctor of medicine. It makes no sense for him to be in charge of a physics-based project but I guess they wanted to throw in a little easter egg for history buffs.

I absolutely enjoyed this concept in the show at face value, but considering how seriously the show takes its world in the first season, it overall comes off as hokey and I can see why a lot of people might have not liked it.
Yeah, the supernatural spin towards the end of the first season put me off caring about the 2nd.

@@RevJ7 more like metaphysical. Bascailly, the alternate world and how it is bleeding in sorta. This world is the real world, but the real history got changed. So the real history is slowly bleeding in as they mess with the machine more and more. The thing is, the entire series was sorta founded with meta physical ideas, it is just that once they started incorporating it to the over all plot, it started making less and less sense.

Got to visit an aluminium smelter on a school trip once. Massive amounts of magnetism on the pot line. We were all told to bring a nail or a key on a string and depending where one stood one could make the nail either stand out sideways on the string or balance it on the end of a finger. Credit and EFTPOS card were also not a good idea to bring if you wanted the magnetic stripe to keep it's information.

In this time-line we can assume they are more potent. The best thing is that would be very much possible with this established rules of travelling, since in the soviet/eastern bloc case they'd wipe out most of the eastern europeans in the nazi world at this point. Since there were no living equivalents in this world, they could pretty much bring most of the strike groups through the portal and perform an invasion.
Well hypothetically, in a world like ours they very likely would have been in fabor of destroying this show world ruled by the nazis.. especially since they are so ingrained in domination and the reich way of life, and post ww2 after learning about the holocaust well... we wouldnt have let that go.

All you people arguing about the details of a fictional machine working with fictional physics. So here's an idea: The variation of the multiverse - presuming it exists - has to do with rate of energy change. That's how you get different results. Small changes in rates can be handled by the machine but... also guarantee that none of these "parallel worlds" actually are in the corresponding position to make a transfer. While space can be warped you might accommodate...oh, a few milliseconds phase imbalance. This is also the problem with time travel in that you have to know very precisely where earth was or will be in your delta time. You're not stepping simply through time but through space... that takes a lot of energy. Consequently phasing across to a parallel world depends solving the same problem. A few milliseconds phase difference means the asteroid killing rock misses the earth by a few 100 kilometers. So... there could be infinite number but few are accessible.

The basic fallacy about this series is that the Nazis did not think in Geo-political terms but Eurocentrically. Hitler thought in World War One terms, seeing the conquest of France and Russia as his ultimate war aims. The Nazis had no workable plan for even invading England and put no real energy into it. Nor did they have a navy capable of crossing the Atlantic against an America with three times their industrial plant. Hitler feared America. Similarly the Japanese limited their war aims to co-opting southeast Asia and China into their Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. They had no wish to go after America and could not support a cross-Pacific invasion of America with their minuscule industrial plant, barely 10% of America's. World conquest by the Nazis and Japan was physically not possible given the political-economy of their nations. But it's a nice fantasy, which is what Hollywood is all about..

I was wondering something similar. The Nazis couldn't even invade the UK, which was like 15 km away from France. An open invasion and colonization of the USA, against all the US army, would have been practically impossible. The logistics, and resources needed, make it a fantasy. Even if the USA lost the whole east coast (which would be practically impossible in itself), the Americans could have probably have retreated to the center of the country and fought from there. The USA was the world's greatest oil producer at the time, and still has a lot of natural resources, and it's huge, bigger than Europe, so they could have fought practically forever like this. But the series hints that the German's got the nuclear bomb first, and that's how they threatened the USA into submission. I guess that way it is possible. If you threaten to nuke every city, or just all food production areas, starving them, until they surrender, then they'd probably surrender very quickly.
I was expecting there to be a plot thread revealing that another alt-world of Nazis had found the portal first and had given this world's Nazis the secret to making nuclear weapons to conquer this world. So the alt-world Nazis were also trying to colonize all worlds, but not directly this time: they weren't going to steal secrets from other worlds, but instead going to give secrets to other Nazi worlds to let them conquer their worlds. They were going to help the Nazis in every world conquer their own worlds.
That is an interesting idea. You could even include the Allies doing the same from a world where they won, but was more unified than ours is.
You could even pivot the Resistance movement into that conflict, and could use your theory to show how the Nazis and Imperial Japanese learned of all the resistance activity.
I would even go further and include a world where the Japanese Empire was more advanced doing the same with Imperial Japan, and instantly set up a three way inter dimensional war when it all fails because of a group of people from all three factions screwing things up in the show's events.

I just didn't fully like the 4th season as much because it wedged in new characters while not having some that I liked. Why did they kill off the Trade Minister and what the hell happened to Ed McCarthy? too many loose ends and that final scene of people just randomly coming through the anomoly was kind of cheeseballish.

what? is this part of the show? i tried so many times to watch this show and couldn't get past the first couple of episodes. somebody traveling cross country to deliver something? every time i hear it's a good show, with the best intentions, i go back and try to watch it. but i can't get past somebody going from SF, and being in AZ at a truck stop? i don't even remember. but multiverses? i am a sucker for multiverses, and sci-fi of any kind. can somebody tell me when in the series does this stuff happen? is it worth going through the whole show, or should i just watch The Expanse again? great show, The Expanse, great show!
