This is a real thing, BMW needs the headlights programmed to the car if you replace the modules, Toyotas need the radar programmed to the car if you unplug the front radar (even if you plug the same radar back in), VWs need the battery programmed to the car. This was a huge pain when I was working in collision repair.

@@Fhwgads11 Agreed, you need to code in some stuff, but you don't need to go to the manufacturer to do so (except keys and ignition, but imo there's a reasonable safety reason). Everything can be done by anyone with proper tools and knowledge.
Apple requires you to contact them directly and only they can code it in, which I guess they won't do if you didn't buy the parts from them.

And you can’t remove the lug nuts when you get a flat tire to put the spare tire on.

@electromega3077 --- Apple is the only major with a self-repair program. On iPhone14 and 15 they've totally redesigned the phone interiors to make them easier to repair.
Also around the world there are many cities with no Apple Store. As a result, they work with a network of around 8,000 independent authorized shops. Their best scenario is to have customers who don't need repairs at all.

I love how they made the back glass removable but attached other components like the charging coil or the mic to it to make aftermarket parts more difficult to source and potentially remove some of the iPhone's functionality if you dare to use non original, aftermarket parts on your own phone. A flssh that is misbehaving or white noise from the mic could be some classy Apple shenanigans when it comes to changing the back glass. What did it for me, and I did fall into the trap and that's why I quit having one, is watching people in restaurants and bars paying more attention to their phones than the people they are with or having conversations interrupted by messages and having it waved in my face to see the latest picture, give them up, while you still can.

at least you HAVE that option (im assuming UK?)
here in the US, there are no longer any cell providers that will support a phone that cannot accept anything lower than 4G/LTE. 3G bands are completely gone, rendering old phones (that i would love to use!!) useless. its absolutely infuriating.
not to mention a lot of workplaces now expect and practically require you to have a smartphone. its complete bs, but im very happy to hear at least SOMEONE is getting to live my dream lol

    • @panickedshears
      @panickedshears 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@shugarysubstancesthere are some phone manufacturers that do make newer flip phones that are compatible with current cell towers! They’re cheap shit, most of the time, not nearly as well built or long lasting as an older model, but if you’re just looking for a phone that can do pretty much just calls and text messages, they exist.
Although the point of employers requiring smartphones, that’s valid. Even my employer (arbys) wants you to download an app just to look at your work schedule for the week. And then you’ve got places, like the one at dad works at, that basically expect you to be able to work 24/7 even if you’re not near a computer. So, in that case you need a smartphone that can say run Microsoft teams and a bunch of other stupid apps.

I think the reason apple realized the back had to be easier to remove is because especially with AppleCare it was costing so much for them to provide replacements to the back glass.
As a 14 Pro user with AppleCare+, it was kinda crazy to pay just $30 for a replacement back glass (they didn’t give me a new phone, and it came with a new battery replacement) given how much it would cost to do that myself (lots of time) or out of warranty (lots of money).

If you want proper modern USB 3.2 gen 2 speeds of up to 10gbps you'll have to buy the Pro and Pro Max model, however they still come with a USB 2 cable so you have to buy a new one if you actually want to use that speed

Hardware still needs to be made a little more repairable, and the software locking needs to be loosened massively. Even if it was for security, heres a solution that would be JUST as "secure" and still give the user the ability to repair their phones.
On the apple website if they would let you buy their "verified" parts yourself as if it were another product or accessory, when you recieve the part it is "unpaired", when you put the new part into the phone and log in, you then pair the part and it becomes a working part that cannot be used in another persons phone.
This would satisfy the (shitty) argument that the parts pairing is done to prevent Iphone theft, while still allowing user servicing. However, we all know apples clear intentions about having to do all the repairs through them, and thats money and more money.

Even as a layperson, one can see the device is heavily over engineered with vast quantities of screws and cables etc. Apple can get away with this I suppose because they can charge a premium for their products. The problem is YOU, not the company. YOU make the company so powerful. Stop.supporting.them. Same goes for all the garbage movies and everything else we all love to hate. We make them keep happening. Capitalism only results in a good amount of quality products and thereby social systems and even society in general by the consumers being serious about quality being produced. If the majority of consumers will just pay whatever for anything out of some sort of desperation, ignorance and/or craving to fit in with what everyone else is doing then capitalism starts to not just produce less and less quality but it actively starts to become detrimental to society.

Their best one they keep peddling is the lack of the charger brick is done for environmental reasons. I’m sure even if that were true, the ewaste spared is offset multiple times over by the millions of dongles and docks in existence to bandaid over the needless removal of various ports that yielded no benefits to size ect. And I absolutely believe they brought back the MagSafe because as Tim Cook “They listened to the customers”. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the at the time 100w PD limit of USBC.

3rd party black glasses would be insane. Imagine being able to pay someone and get your own custom back glass.

I guess Apple has not heard they might be forced to supply ALL repair tools under multiple legislations.
Louis already made a video where they broke apple's walled garden for the angle sensor
