This is really cool. Though I also kinda like the theoretical resilience of the lightning port/cable design. There's nothing that can break off in the port if you try to force it or it's misaligned or gets stuck. With USB-C there's that little tab in there. Much easier and cheaper to dig out a piece of broken cable and get a new cable than it is to have to send the phone in and get a USB-C port replaced because the tongue broke off inside.
I might just be unlucky but I found that the pins on the lightning port lost their spring after 2 years and therefore stopped making reliable contact with my Ipod, although damage from misuse might be less likely with lightning it seems to me that general wear has less of an effect with type C port

Awesome job. It's insane how much patience you have. I can go into extreme detail when fixing things, but your on a whole other level.
謝謝!
😄👋
If Apple never comes out with another Mini iPhone, I swear I'll pay you to make my 13 Mini USB C haha
the amount of work it takes to replace the ports is nothing short of crazy, amazing work and well detailed
Cheers man
This guy's craft is f'ing insane! I've watched hundreds of micro soldering vids but this guy is the best I've seen. It's like watching a watch repair vid. That's how clean the craft is
That is the most “because I can” video I have ever seen.
Incredible transformation!!
You have the patience of an angel! That looked impossible in so many ways. "We are idiots" had me LOL. Brilliant work as always!! Cheers mate
stupid human educate yourself its easy to change port no wonder stupid apple customers like you exist😂
I don't know anything about electronics but this video is just a piece of art I loved how you've showed everything... I'm a fan from now on!
This never get old, man. Upon Apple released iPhone 15, they finally changed to USB-C. I'm waiting if possible for headphone jack.
Watch strange parts
The disrespect given to the lightning cable box. Thanks Josh. Edit - That bonus at the end! 😂
😁
It's well deserved, lightning is absolute dogshit
Best hook for a video ever
New iPhones and iOS are starting to really tempt me but I refuse to jump until USB-C comes around. Bravo man this is a marvellous mod!
It’s either coming in 2023 or never (they might switch to only wireless charging)
USB-C might come to iPhones after the notorious EU law will be put in place
It's coming sooner than most people think. The EU will make usb-c a mandatory standard.
@Carl Gunderson Yeah. And you seem to misunderstand how much expensive it is to have 2 lines of production for the same product. So if a continent worth 800 millions of potential customers obliges you to do something, you do it. And generally it applies worldwide. Heck, California could pass a law like this and it would also apply worldwide. It already happened okce
@Carl Gunderson I doubt Apple would only make them for the European market, in fact I suspect that they will only make usb-c devices and phase out thunderbolt
This was pure genius - the workmanship alone was stunning, but the technical aspect was next level. That's before we even talk about the micro-soldering. Fantastic work.
what ia genius here? this stupid human just change port 😂 anyone's can do this shit 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i laugh so hard on stupid apple customers who buy same chinese phone with new name apple sucks 😂😂😂😂😂
- I'll show you something never done before!
Apple on 09/23:
-are you sure?
This is god-tier. Beautifully made with so much attention to details and well explained. Love this video
Hey thankyou ☺️
@@RestoreTechnique so ummm...did you sell it? Or you want to sell it?
@@emmanuelbraimoh8285 Ah yes, just whip out 5 figures.
@@camilasmithson5410 😭😭😭😭
Mixing the two-part epoxy on the USB-C to Lightning adapter was pure flex.
Ohhhhhh the BM
I love the deltailed videos you post, and especially the fact you share all tools used in your description. Thanks!
Damn, that is an impressive engineering job, may your USB-C iPhone too sell for eighty thousand dollars or more. Better sell it soon before Apple releases their own lol...
Yes i hope he does get it sold for a lot. He put a lot of effort into it.
Yes i strongly suggest too
I didn't expect the port to look that seamless tbh. wonderful work
It's astonishing that you can accurately solder such tiny components like that, big props man. That takes a huge amount of skill
Cheers bud
Plenty of skill and it looked like a good amount of flux, thinking about my crappy solderings and how much better they would have been if I would have used flux...
@@kimh9736 Flux is the first secret of good soldering.
I'm so happy the World Wide Web exists because we get to see geniuses like this one 👍
This video is so precise and made with such humour that it earned you my subscription. Great job dude! Love from India!

I used to fix my old wired earphones before by soldering. people like me knows how god-like you are with your soldering skills! More power to you sir!
Cheers 😄
For real, what kinda motor cortex is that...
The ability to weld like this should not be taken for granted I sit there breathing in fumes to get one little thing done and I’ve been handy my whole life started building mini Moros when I was like 10 all on my own but this one thing for me is soooo hard to do
so true jonathan
jonathan, so true
Very true, jonathan
Well done Jonathon
The Best video on TH-cam, I'm regretting why was I recommend this video so late... U earned a subscriber...!
wow, i saw the video in my reccomended and clicked it, watched it to the and and just then realised it only had 8000views and that you had 30k. Amazing content, with stuff like this you will surely grow as a creator. Hope to see you at a million soon :)
Not many people can do this complicated work ! Good work man , this is absolutely amazing !!
I can’t believe that it looks so genuine and good, even the insides are relatively clean.
Now this dream has come true😆
Dude that's insane. You deserve a hand 👏👏
This is one of those ideas which sound simple on the surface, but are actually incredibly hard. Good job.
But not at the manufacturing stage.
@@IsaacJacobsAu Obviously not, apple is probably used to this, but for an individual to do this precise work without a mass factory is hard. Also he edited an already made iPhone 13. In the factory, the wont have that middle step of the lightning adding and removing. Also designing this is hard.
the patience it must have taken to go through with this. a true achievement.
Thanks 😊
This is adorable... Wow. Heats off. 👏👏👏
Let's just appreciate how beautiful this phone is, on both the inside and the outside
you definitely are an awesome engineer with deep knowledge. This was a source of inspiration for me. Thanks buddy
He just innovated more than tech companies have in recent years.
omg the effort he puts into this
Wow! Amazing project! I've been wanting a USB C iPhone for years! The precision required for this job is mind blowing. Hats off to your patience that payed off. Awesome work 👍
Someone else did it first
Good on ya mate, making the Aussies proud!! This was an amazing watch!
This mod looks super clean, and I have no doubt the iPhone 15 will look practically just like with when it finally releases with a USB-C port
You really think they will do a usb c iphone? Lmao we will get one without a port instead to force users to get the magsafe charger
@@oopdigdigfig9786 nah, I don’t think it supports data transfer
@@oopdigdigfig9786 it is possible to go portless but probably not any time soon as wireless data transfer is much slower (through Wi-Fi for example) compared to thunderbolt ports which are now basically usb-c but support significantly higher speeds
also, Apple has confirmed because of the EU that USB-C will come to new iPhones in the future, most likely already with the iPhone 15
@@woolwil Imagine if they make US versions using lightning and EU USB-C kek
Kinda like the current situation with US 14's only having eSIM while EU/JP having normal
@@captainultraswagga i did not confuse anything, I only simplified the concept for simple understanding
I am well aware of the protocol and connector types, however, it is easier to sum up modern standard thunderbolt as USB-c compatible no?
besides, modern thunderbolt ports are simply classified as thunderbolt ports that are backwards compatible with usb-c, I do not see your point
Bro had the answer all along
I can't even imagine how satisfying it must've been to put that final screw 14:24. AMAZING!
😁
What in the world did i just watch 😲😂 WoW!!! Bro your a Legend💯🔥🔥This vid should be 1# trending on YT💣
Ah man thanks for your time and effort for making this video, I really enjoyed it, and I and the talk over was great too, well done you deserve a pat on the back 👌
can’t wait for the “i put usb-c on the first iphone”
simply fantastic! the craftsmanship is so detailed and immaculate (after any oopses of course). good job!
Professionally and beautifully done! ❤️ The end result looks like it is factory stock. Good job mate! 🔥 Hope your work gets the attention it deserves. 🎉
I don’t use iPhones… but loved this video for its original thought process and great follow through and oh so professional implementation. GREAT work, very well done. Will you be offering this as a paid for mod service?
As an Aviation Electronic Technician student, I find this very interesting. Thank you!
Very very impressive! Especially that everything is made by hand, the USB C port fits really well and looks super clean. All those iPhones that have been modded tohave an USB C port really convince me that Apple just didnt want to put a USB C port into their devices. idk why Apple decided this but its kind of sad
So that you only buy their apple charger and no third party can make any money out of it
@@RADIUM108 Third parties can make money off selling chargers, but for them to actually be useful they have to be MFI approved by Apple, which means Apple takes a cut of the sale. :)
💰💵💲
new eu laws may change this.
@@RADIUM108 they wanted to wait 10 years
So much work, deserves a lot of praise
Thankyou 😊
