Missing the point. A true meritocracy is great. When you end up hiring all men and just one woman, unless you believe men are better than women, statistically that makes no sense. “We want to see a woman on every building site” maybe do that by convincing young girls to become construction workers instead of forcing construction companies to employ less qualified people because of their gender.
I saw a young, most likely early twenties, woman whipping a forklift at work today. My best friend is getting a Ph.D in construction management and her dissertation is all about educating more young women about working in construction. So some people must be working on it somewhere.
as a man who worked in construction, many men didnt want to be there neither. it has a nice charm to it but waking up 6 in the morning to plow through mud and rubble is hardly a dreamjob for most.
Well, I can't agree. It's a breed of person who looks at an indoor job, with social pressures, office politics, rush-hour traffic, infinite memoranda and data-entry, long hours over a computer, and then looks at work outdoors, rain, snow or shine, and says "I'll have that, instead, please."

Yes, exactly. In the government they could legally employ 100% females in the building department. They could even cheer it from the rooftops how progressive they were.
If you're seeing it as the tool shed and the house in the same terrain, and as a unity, yes. But I think the metaphor is two houses in different terrains, with a probability that they are valued differently.
Forget the unequal value of the two companies. If you're offering 5% of one company, and 15% of another AND if you assume both companies are of equal value, then that's a combined ownership if 10%, not 20%. Then you throw in the unequal value of the companies, etc.
I've worked in construction for thirty years and despite massive and frequent initiatives to get women into construction through education, experience days, school initiatives, university sponsorships etc etc they are still underrepresented. The reason for this is the same reason it was thirty years ago, most women do not want these types of jobs. It's just a fact.

She was flat out wrong saying they get 20% of her company by getting 15 of 1 company and 5 of the other. That's not 20% of a company, that's 15% of one company and 5% of the other. You don't add them together, that is very basic mathematics. If you have two dollars and I give you 15% of 1 and 5% of the other. I've given you 20cents, but 20 cents isn't 20% of 2 dollars. It's 10 percent. And this is assuming the value of both companies is the same, it's not though so it's like if I have two accounts one with $100 and one with $1000 and I give you 15 and 5 percent respectively. I'm giving you $65. that's not 20% of anything. If i flip the percentages i'm giving you $155. She’s out of breath coming out a lift. I wouldn’t trust her to build a Wendy house.
This was before they had the fake elevator (lift), they still had to walk up stairs which you can see the railing of on the left side of the screen when they first approached. And yes, the lift in the more recent seasons (series) is totally fake. Even the windows in the "den" are fake.

A feminist trying to stand on the shoulders of men whilst all the while hating them and never once seeing the irony of her situation.
Yep, that's feinazi's for you, they can't see the wood for the trees. Indoctrinated fools, but useful fools.
It's no different from when they talk about patriarchy, yet will call the police if they feel discriminated against. Why would any sane person who followed their ideology, ever call the police? Surely the police are misogynistic enforcers of rape culture more than anyone. Let alone calling them due to gender discrimination.
@@walsh9080 thats not a very good analogy, "you participate in society yet you belive society should be somewhat improved"

Exactly what's happening today with feminists.
@@BleachRush yeh for the last 10 years they've had special female only sponsorships and free university courses to get more women into engineering. And yet women are still a minority of engineers. You can't be sexist if you're a woman. /s
@@bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24 Same reason why men are a minority in nursing. Each gender thinks different, it's obvious. Wait 5 years and the woke government will allow blatant discrimination…obviously only if it favors women

I don't think that was really the point. Its that we don't really see women in construction and its a section a lot of women would like to get into
The strongest women and the women that earn respect are the ones who don’t use their gender as an excuse and push themselves until they succeed.
Can you imagine Maggie Thatcher in her prime whining about how she was being held back, and that it was impossible for her to get anywhere because of the Patriarchy? She was the best PM material in the Conservative Party, and she got to the very top instead of whinging about glass ceilings.
And yet, ironically, Margret Thatcher is the most demonised PM in living memory. She had balls of steel, more than most men. It's not about gender, its about determination.

Aye that’s it mate absolutely
@@Dragonblaster1 i would disagree strongly about her being 'the best PM material'! Sure she had leadership skills and was ruthless in her decisions, but the best PM would be a person who is looking after the interests of the ENTIRE country, not just the wealthy ones.

Not exactly selling the whole “women are strong” thing are we?
I'm a woman and can't stand women like her . Makes our lives more difficult.
Debs Day it sure has.
What irritates me is her idea is decent. Her attitude, and view on the business is just ludicrously delusional though. Honestly, if I were to run a business, I don't care if you're male or female, the person that does a better job will get the position. What they fail to realise is it's a for-profit business they are in.
@@DapperDodo Ideas are highly over-rated. People and execution are the key. She would be a disaster at both! Case closed.
She's the kinda person who cannot be wrong ever, it's always someone elses fault. She proves that at the end saying the reason she can't be successful is because she's a woman.
So she was flat wrong saying 15% and 5% is 20% and when he tried to show her that she just said "it's because I'm a woman".
Good news is they are now out of business.
I don't think women are dimwits but this specific woman definitely is. And for that reason, I'm out.

Oh the sexist construction industry, building houses for people. What a bunch of assholes! /s
Yes!
What I don't understand is the fact that she's trying to get women into construction. Not a high demand field for most women. Just like women are more apt than men to go into social services, day care, etc etc. It's not because the business is sexist, it's because people don't really want to go in. These women pitching the idea wouldn't want to get into construction.
