here are plenty of research materials describing the evaluation of paints through rheology methods. He wasn't right in the way he said it, but he studied rheology for the sake of learning about paint, which is correct. When most chemists hear the word rheology, they immediately think of viscosity and, in fact, quantitative viscosity is one of the material properties that can be obtained from rheological measurements. However, a material's viscosity is not a discrete value, as is temperature. Rather, viscosity is a property that depends on the conditions of measurement, for example, the rate of deformation (shear rate). THIS IS SIGNIFICANT FOR MATERIALS SUCH AS PAINTS SINCE THEY ARE EXPOSED TO a variety of different deformation processes during their useful lifetime. Each of these processes represents a different deformation (shear) rate, and hence may result in a different apparent viscosity. Rheometers provide a means for evaluating this entire range of viscosity changes as well as material viscoelastic properties.

First he says “non-toxic”, then he says “non-carcinogenic”. Not the same thing... Plus he has no clue about the ‘scientific’ words he uses. And, as others have said about Deborah Meaden’s comment about “natural”, that does not mean it is not toxic.

He lost me when he said the laboratory owned 50% of it. If the chinese company thought it would sell in the western market they would do it themselves, they would not just take some cash from a sole trader for 50%.
It annoys me when the dragons are unnecessarily rude and dismissive of products and people who don't deserve it, even if the product isn't great. "Oh it's for nails, it's non toxic for nails" Is basically saying "Mercury isn't toxic, as long as it's inside your thermometer". Yeah duh, but if I get in contact with it, then it's toxic.
@omgwtf696969 She didnt prove it was toxic. All she said wasn't some "ha gotcha" moment. Literally all she quoted was from generic warnings given to all products of its class. Let me ask. Would you consider a jalapeno toxic?
@omgwtf696969 I guarantee if you tweeted/called Crayola and said "my kid drank some paint" they would tell you to call poison control. Same with any non-toxic cleaning product warning of skin and eye irritation. Now is this guy's nail polish on the same level of safety as Crayola's non-toxic? I highly doubt it. But the main point I'm trying to make is that non-toxic =/= safe to eat or wash your eyes with.
The nail polish market is incredibly saturated, His nail polish needed to offer something that's not already on the market to stand even a shadow of a chance. Without being "non-toxic" he has nothing. Even if it was non-toxic, he's not a majority owner of the formula so if he did start getting traction the factory would just start selling to a more well situated brand. So he would still have nothing.
Other scammers on this and similar shows have the same nervous, sweaty look to them. Not to say everyone who's sweaty and nervous is a scammer, but it's a decent baseline.
It's not just the actual nail polish that's an issue for pregnant women, it's the fumes and the filing dust. Which is multiplied when you are inside a nail salon....
True, so a natural product is no help unless you replace every product in the salon. I'd imagine setting up all natural salons in rich wellness obsessed areas would be a better business idea, but I'd also imagine it's already been done. :-)

He also doesn’t seem to understand that everything is a chemical and that “natural” ingredients can be pretty toxic. They were buzz words to pull people in.
There's a big reason the dragons are so strict and quick to rile with stuff like this, and that's the simple fact that this is putting people's safety at risk. And when you're putting non-toxic on bottles of stuff that can require medical attention if consumed it's potentially lives at risk, especially considering one of the common reasons people seek non-toxic versions of products is to use around small kids
He went in there with the points that his product is being applied fast and is natural therefore not toxic. He went out there with the statement the nail colour isn't toxic for your nail. chemical-free is a term used in marketing to imply that a product is safe, healthy or environmentally friendly because it only contains natural ingredients.
As soon as I hear anybody in life that initially say they want to be a "leader" and want to do something "better than a regular job" .. I switch off to them.. Life isn't about business.. It's about character and humility.. Everything else will follow... In my humble opinion.
I think I believe him that its generic for all paint products. He may have gotten further had he been more open about that earlier. In terms of application to a nail perhaps it is a safer alternative for people and pregnant women but he oversold it.
Natural doesn't mean safe. Those warnings could have been for any solvent that is harmless at that level and evaporates quickly, however he's wrong that it wouldn't touch the skin. he should have been able to vouch for ingredients specifically, even if they censored it for protecting the formula.

Paintology. there is now ..

here are plenty of research materials describing the evaluation of paints through rheology methods.
Rheometers provide a
means for evaluating this entire range of viscosity changes as well as material viscoelastic properties.
