- For the 10th anniversary of "The Getawayer" I'm back with a new review of Porsches latest 911, the all-new 992 Carrera S with 8speed PDK. My headline for the article mentioned in the video was "Bite & Bytes" and I think its still rather fitting, having driven a few 992s by now. Thanks Bernhard, Im doing great! The process of getting the 718 Spyder press car last year was not satisfying for me. Since paid-influencers took over, its just numbers over quality journalism. I have therefore decided not to review cars on TH-cam anymore and to leave the field to those, who reach bigger audiences. - Guido
It’s a long story Guido but your enthusiasm from your review of the 991.1 GT3 helped me purchase my first gt3 . After 4 driving seasons I had the opportunity to trade up to a .2 gt3 . As impressive as the .1 was , the .2 was another 15-20 % more car in my opinion . As I live in an area with 4 seasons and my car is parked during the 5 winter months , I endeavoured to daily drive these cars the rest of the year which I do/did . I traded up the first one with over 30,000 k and I’m close to that with the .2 and would like to be considered for a trade up to the 992 gt3 . I am very fortunate to have had 2 of these cars in my life . I have German heritage and growing up always dreamt of having a Porsche but never would have thought I’d be breathing the rarified air of driving these for nearly ten years of my life . You definitely sparked something with your review . I’m sorry that the Car Review industry has made it difficult for you to continue with your reviews .
@@bernardrubble8703 Im very happy to read your story and that I somewhat influenced you to pulling the trigger to what would become 10 years of GT3 enjoyment :) Sadly Porsche never cared about these kind of personal stories that viewers shared with me or on forums. Things changed for me when I went to work with AUTO BILD Sportscars ( a former writer of them is Porsches US press guy Frank Wiesmann) and experiened the A-list of car journalism. I enjoyed those three years to the fullest, but also knew that it was an ending...To the 992 GT3: While some reviews state it is too harsh and not in every way an upgrade to the 991.2 GT3, I would still take the chance and go for it. Maybe even with PDK, which I shouldn't say ;) - Guido

When I saw the end of the video it brought me back to my 991.1 GTS which I traded in a little over a year ago for a Macan S due to having a child and needing a more practical car. I miss my 911 so much and that sweet NA sound. When my kids are older I will have to resort to the used market to get myself another or perhaps a gt3.
The 991.1 GTS is one of my favs. Hands down the best 991 below the 991.2 GT3 manual and 911 R I've driven. Hope you still get some joy out of the Macan :)

A car that you can take to the limit, get's boring after a few months. With the 992 the fun will not stop! I just received mine 10 days ago and it is simply the best 911 I have ever driven. If you prefer what many call traditional Porsche then do as I do and also have a 356A in the garage. No turbo no water cooled no fuel injection, no disc brakes and yes no 6 cylinders but 4, because that is how Porsches where born.
I hope to read your thoughts again after a longer period of ownership and possibly driving a few other 911s back to back with yours. We all have different taste and I'm very much a purist, but that doesn't mean my thoughts work with every driver's needs :) - Guido

Man so happy you are back. You have info that no other reviewers seem to know. I hadn't heard about the transmission case being prepared for a hybrid setup at a later stage - nor had I heard about the acoustic sensors for the wet mode. I love detail - so thank you. Get back into it man

This was the perfect start to the weekend! Another great video Getawayer! Porsche is answering the call of more buyers, can't be faulted for that. We've seen what I'd consider the golden era of modern cars with a focus on driver engagement as a first priority come and then recede into the rearview. Future automotive development is exciting to observe however bittersweet to experience.

Absolutley-everyone seems to have forgotten (or perhaps are so desperate not to piss off porsche) that it’s supposed to be a driver’s sportscar. Bigger, faster, more powerful? Yes. But far less involving. And for all the talk of daily usability, the frankly ludicrously large wheels mean tyre roar is a real issue on long motorway journeys in the 992.

I don't enjoy or follow the automotive world of TH-cam these days, so I don't think I will do anymore reviews myself. Also the views got really low last year and subscribers didn't get notifications, I was told. You won't get access to press cars with less than 10.000 views on average. I'm lucky to have enjoyed the last glory days of motoring journalism at AUTO BILD sportscars with supercar group tests, travelling and meeting many of my driving hereos. I cherish all of it and therefore it feels too much of a let down continueing with TH-cam like last year - Guido

Thanks Guido I agree absolutely with your assessment I think I'll hold onto my Carrera s manual 991.1 for another few months. I test drove the 992.1 Carrera s, engine didn't thrill me but I did like the look of interior and exterior.

dude you were missed! Your knowledge and familiarity with vehicles and manufacturers as well as your honesty were always refreshing man. Too many youtube autobloggers now are so much about bling and revenue (aka money from their channels) that they rarely tell the full truth on these cars and/or know what they are even talking about in their reveiws. So appreciate your return! Hope to see more! You Chris Harris, Savagegesse, and even the Smoking Pipes and Doug Demuro are some of the best watched if you want all around good idea of these cars!

@@TheGetawayer Don't disappoint or disappear again...your reviews always are honest and truthful and you say what you like and do not like about the cars and your professional experience and opinion does count. Not like some TH-cam reviewers now that equate having 5 cars or driving fast equates to a competent breakdown of a car. EVO was nice...also miss Top Gear guys and 5th Gear as they always gave you a fun but argumentative sometime review plus even put them thru daily paces and road trips to see what living with these cars is really like.
In any event much kudos to you for the return and review and always keeping it real. Really helped me with my recent decision to sell my car....went from an early 2013 991.1 Carrera S to a 2021 992 Carrera S manual transmission (currently on order) recently for one main reason...your review plus the fact that I can only get a manual in the 992 S! Interested in your comments on that move...and will you be reviewing the manual 992s soon?
