    Simply put, imho....
    The 997.2 is the peak the water-cooled 911 driver experience. (smaller, lighter, hydraulic steering, more tossable and more rewarding on a twisty road than 991-992, pedestrian interior and tech, in retrospect)
    The 991.1 is the peak water-cooled, naturally-aspirated owner experience. (better interior and tech than 997, better exhaust sound, revvier, more visceral than .2)
    The 991.2 is the peak water-cooled, turbo-charged owner experience. (torquier and more refined in every way, but not as viscerally satisfying as .1)
    The 992 is a technical marvel, but too fat-assed and generically-styled with too much of a generic a driving experience (for a Porsche).

    I did something very similar. I own a 991 Touring and was able to spec a new 992 Touring.. I absolutely love the 991 so I didn’t sell it when I got the 992. After around 5 months of owning the 992 I decided I would sell it and keep the 991. It had nothing to do with value. I liked everything about my 991 over the 992. I’m glad I was able to keep the 991 while I had the chance to experience the 992.

    Really nice comparison:
    1. Wonder if you'd like 992 in sport design pack- much more aggressive look and sporty. Not the biggest fan of 991.2 front with the inward slant. My 992 sport design pack has outward slant which I think looks more aggressive. The sport design pack also makes rear look much better.
    2. I do like the center exhausts of the 991.2.
    3. Do the 991.2 lights bother you? Not a fan of the 2 circles, just looks old to me.
    4. Less angular front bonnet in 991.2
    5. I love the steering wheel design of the 992 and the 991.2 steering wheel looks much more outdated. Buttons in 991.2 are nice, as with the more traditional stick.

Comparing the 991.2 T and 992 T, I decided to give up my 992 T spot and bought a 991.2 T. It’s yellow, with manual, great specs, 40 grand cheaper than a 992 T. After owning 5 911’’s…I’m done. Why? I just discovered the driving purity of a 718 Boxster 4.0 GTS, N/A engine, sound, exploitable power/torque, handling, balance, ride, power, threading down B roads, real buttons/few screens, feeling so natural and right. It is a gem of a car and in my view the best sports car Porsche makes. Porsche just announced they have stopped making them for Europe with new EV coming.

    • @neilgaydon5430
      @neilgaydon5430 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not necessarily. The EU regulation applies to ANY car from July with the offending management system that infringes cyber security - the 718 is one and there will be others cars, perhaps even some EV’s. Porsche said it’s not worth the effort to fix it so late in the day for that model. Therefore discontinuation of the 718 in europe and any states that adopt EU regulation is certain. The UK and USA are apparently OK, for the time being. So there could well be a crossover period, but who knows if this hastens the 718’s demise. It’s certainly worth reading the articles given the complexity. I hope this helps.

      From a design perspective the 992 is a bit of a mess - looks like a team design. Whereas the 991 has clarity and a simplicity of line and form. The interior of the 992, is just awful - it could be from any Benz or BMW, with the heavy "tech" emphasis it will age terribly. Having said that it is well made and has a quality feel but.........not a lot of character. The 992 is the first time I have not bought a new Porsche sports in over 20+ plus years, I even knocked back a rare 992 GT3 RS allocation in preference for a 296 GTB. Porsche may be selling more product but they are not selling better sports cars. The more recent exceptions being the 718 GT4 RS - but that is trading on the 981 look, style and rigid chassis mated with the engine and gearing of the 991.2 GT3 RS.

    I think the 991.2 is one of the best looking 911s ever made. (My opinion) I do agree the front end of the 992 is a bit cleaner. Will, you seem like you might enjoy a new 718 GTS 4.0 better than a 911 since they are small, less tech, and more focused on the driving experience. Have you ever considered ordering one of those while there are still allocations available? I have one in production right now and own a 1971 911 E. I love the new 911s but I’ve always loved the size of the caymans/boxsters as they feel like the “old formula”, more similar to my old 911.

    I made a similar decision, went from a 997 C2S to a 992 C2S, both manual. The 992 was great, modern and new and ate up the road and speed in a way that made CHP very happy to take my money. I used to be hyper critical of the 991.2, I thought the interior looked bland and the electrical steering would be muted compared to the 992. Test drove the 991.2 and all that immediately went out the window. The 991.2 blew me away, the interior is more functional, everything is simple but very well built, and even with 30k more miles than my 992 was free of creaks and rattles. Took the plunge and traded it in and have no regrets. The exhaust sounds way better and the car feels more playful even without RAS. Having an extra $40k in the bank ain’t too bad either!

GT3 especially Touring model because of the bumper design looks pleasing to my eyes. Front design I would say bonnet is amazing (that makes 991’s bonnet a bit dull after seeing 992), bumper is well sorted so I like front, but 991.2 is one of the most beautiful 911’s ever. As a 991.2 Turbo Cab owner, I'll state my bias to begin with. But with a 992 and 991.2 sitting in the showroom, I chose the latter. Things with which I'm less enamoured with the 992 generation in general- door handles inside and out. Same as my Taycan, they try to bite one's fingers, they're less ergonomic, and less refined to touch. 991.2 handles in and out are peak Porsche/peak auto industry. Instrument cluster- the 991.2 is prettier. Cup holders- funny how folks crapped on the older cup holders until the new ones came out, then want the old ones back. Exhaust. Darned particulate filters and regulations have choked most of the music from the newest 911s, fixable however by the aftermarket. The 992 driving experience in the cars that I have driven, is slightly disassociated, not due to any flaw, but rather the outrageously well executed driving dynamics. Can I blame Porsche for mastery? Heck no. My buddy, a track fanatic, did one lap with an instructor while I was at Porsche's Performance driving course and got out of the car claiming that the 992 Carrera S was unfair - it's a cheat code for effortlessly going fast on the track, he said. It's the same on your favourite back roads. There aren't any wrong answers on this one IMHO, just preferences. All are amazing to own and drive.
