    What people need to remember is that Sony, Nikon, Canon etc will NEVER make a perfect budget camera (or professional for that matter), not because they can't, but because they don't want to. The fact that there's flaws with each model is the driver that causes people to upgrade and buy another model OR version, when it comes out. If it records 4k video without overheating, has all the buttons you want (and in the right place), has the flip out screen for selfies and bloggers, has the best auto focus, has built in image stabilisation etc etc etc then why would someone part with it? They wouldn't. They'd keep using it until it dies. Not having certain features that you want, or not being able to do something perfectly keeps us looking at new models. And eventually... we buy one :(

    • @connormccaskill
      @connormccaskill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Yeah but if they don’t cannibalize themselves, someone else will. Sony has basically made the perfect camera with the a7iii and we’re pretty dang close to that reality in my opinion and I believe it will happen

    • @Valerossi0
      @Valerossi0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Panasonic made a good one. G85 ;)

    • @RedForShort
      @RedForShort 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I suppose you're right, the A7iii is pretty awesome. It pretty much has everything you'd want. I haven't tried it out but wish I could get my hands on one FAST! I have the A6300. It's a very good camera but it certainly has flaws that's for damn sure :)

    • @leokimvideo
      @leokimvideo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, so correct. Remember when the Red company was going to make the perfect domestic video camera but it never happened. I think they saw the iPhone coming and decided it's game over for this style of expensive gear bloat.

      @suzesiviter6083 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      RedReviewz: I disagree, thats pure conspiracy...well not totally, I think Cannon and maybe Nikon is guilty of that to a certain extent, but Sony has been making radical improvements to their range over the last few years; and some would argue have almost reached perfection.
      Also how do you judge perfection?, for me; I am still using a Sony A6000 and for me that camera does everything I need it to; so its perfect for me.

    We shoot all of our latest travel videos on the M50. I feel that at the moment, at that price point, there is no competition for the all-around video/vlogging cam package you get.

    I am make TH-cam videos for quite some time now and I want to buy a new camera. I wanted to buy Canon 200d but I switched to 77d and now I am thinking about m50. What do you think will be the best choice? I want to use it mainly for TH-cam maybe some photography for my blog and other content creation. I really don’t know what to choose and I am not sure what is better for TH-cam DSLR or Mirrorless? Currently I am using Sony dsc hx 200v and that’s not enough for me know, there is not enough options I can’t set focus and so on. I hope there wouldn’t be such a problem with M50. Thanks for any help!

      That lens is pretty good. But I would maybe consider the 18-150 instead. You’d loose a bit of the zoom, but you’d have the ability to go wide when you need it. Also, I’ve heard the glass and IS is better

  • @JesRai
    @JesRai 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Thank you for your amazingly unbiased review. I just bought this camera, and I'm so excited :D This is the first digital camera (besides my phone and gopro) I'll be able to shoot video with!
    Now, I need to get this off my chest as a creative professional:
    A lot of people forget that despite what the specs on a camera are, that each brand and model of camera is targeted towards a different kind of user. Each brand is just a different perspective- which is such a beautiful thing when applying that to the art of photography and videography! If you're a vlogger, your probably don't NEED 4k. Let's be honest, here! The whole idea behind a professional camera is to fit the scope of work it is designed for. Even if you did, there's a whole other world out there of film, analog, and IMAX cameras that can produce better quality.
    I'm a creative director, and for my vision the color science and focus system are absolutely crucial to me. I can use my graphical abilities through Adobe After Effects or Premiere Pro to create the rest. That's just how I go about things, and it's my voice, so if anyone is reading this, don't think that because you have Creative Suite, that's what you need. You need to know HOW you create. I've shot with many many cameras in my life , both digital and film, and somehow between one of the first Canon Rebels, a few vintage polaroids, and an old 5D I've been paid good money for my work. It isn't always about the specifications. An eye for composition, learning how to use a camera properly (it takes MANY years,) and a camera that fits your style of work can get you really far in life.
    TLDR: Having an expensive camera is not the same as loving photography or videography. Loving photography or videography doesn't mean you have to have an expensive camera.

    I just bought m50, I am having 700d too. I went to canon lens registration tool to register my ef-s lenses to m50...And I was shocked to see that I can register only three lenses as compared to 40 lenses in 700d. No TH-cam reviewer is talking about this huge limitation

    • @Yodah97
      @Yodah97 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the heads-up! I can live with that for my use-case, but it can see it being a huge issue for other people.
      If you are reading this in the future and don't know what we are talking about, lens registration is what allows the camera to auto-correct the natural flaws that every lens has, and that cheap lens have a lot of.
      Lightroom and other editing software can do this with a press of a buttom, but having it done in-camera lets you skip that step in editing. And in the case of the M50, it means that you can get the already corrected photos from your camera to your phone without any editing needed.
      For me, this isn't a big issue because there is no overlap between the situations where I want my photos corrected right away and the situations where I'll be using more than 3 lenses.

    Good review. I'm going to buy it after researching other cameras of similar functionalities. I am using Sony RX10 (first version). It's good. But, my wife finds it too heavy to shoot and refuses to share the fun of photo-shooting/traveling with me, and with it. So, have to turn to lighter ones. RX10 also does not have the articulating screen; not to mention touch screen, even though it has a larger apex at 2.8 and longer zoom range.
    This M50 sells now in Hong Kong at HK$3,900 (US$500) with the kit lense 15-45 for the white colour model; $50 (US$6.5) more for the black colour model. I will choose the black one thinking it's more mature for a guy like me at age 60. Also at this age, can't do too much low angel shooting without pain in the spine. So, with the articulating screen, this little guy should work good for me, and my wife.

    Nice Review! Thanks. I use the Canon M6 exclusively for all my professional productions, having sold my 5D3 and 6D and favoring this small fast profile line of cameras, let alone, mirrorless is definitely the way to go. I will never go back. Once I sell the 80D I have that I've shot like 40 pics on, 'll snag the M50. Thanks again.

    • @drdimento
      @drdimento 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it would. I've been thinking about this but also wondering if it's possible that Canon might well release an EOS M7 that would have all the features of the M6 and the M50 (especially the articulating screen) but with a headphone jack to make it "the" pro camera for us lightweight users. I'd love to see a 26 yo 30 mp imager with the Digic 8 processor and especially that side card slot and the same for battery so that one does not have to dismount the camera every time there's a card or battery change.

    Thanks for your M50 videos. I decided to order one to use as my next travel camera (it's so light!). As you said, this may be a great way to segue into their mirrorless system, maybe even convert a Nikoner like me.

    I am a Sony a6000 user. Why i can't trust its image quality? May be I am wrong? Any one had a chance to compare the image quality between both cameras? I have Sony 50mm f1.8 and Sigma 30mm f1.4 lenses. Can i get same results with canon ef lenses on this m50body. Or better image results? Thank you in advance.

    Really ... i think it is quite a nice tool and suited for many levels of photographers ... what you mention initially as being a beginners camera you contradict through the video with all the positive statements and being the best Canon deal at the moment ... for beginners yes the way of the "help menu" function is great ... as a semipro i bought one the other other day just for vlogging, but the photographing quality is all you need to post on any social media platform ... thumbs up on your video´s by the way ... :-)

      I think it's a great vlog camera! And it also takes actually really nice pictures. I JUST WISH CANON WOULD MAKE GREAT EF-M LENSES!! They are all slow, and there are basically no primes available for it.

      No editing! (That’s why they are a bit dark. I had exposure comp down 1 stop.)

    Hey Dave, thanks for this video. I am looking at getting the M50 and this really helped. 2 questions...1 - do you live in Nashville? I noticed Opryland, that's 5 minutes from my house lol. 2 - You mentioned you can only get 30 minutes of video? I assume that's just using the battery and that if you have the camera plugged in you can get more? That's important to me as I'm looking to get it as an upgrade from my 10 year old Canon Handy Cam and my main use is shooting instructional videos for my Online Guitar course and my YT Channel. Thanks

    Absolutely brilliant review Kinotika [Dave Maze]... I gotta test this unit... it's price point means its easier to get two for shooting wide and close up shots on video! How do you think it will perform in a dark club for a live performance (not including audio) with a continuous light setup?

    Nice video man! Do you think the EF-M 15-45 F/3.5-6.3 lens that the camera comes with is fine to use for personal pictures for instagram? Like I'm not using it for professional use like not for work, I am simply using it to take high quality pictures of myself for my instagram feed.
