    I've been a professional photographer since the 1980s. Shot with lots of cameras, brands, models, etc. Settled on Canon in 1987 when they came out with the EOS system and blew everyone else out of the water. They also beat everyone to High Speed Sync, which for me was great because I shoot people--gr. seniors, models, portraits, headshots, etc. I like the M-50 for a street photography camera, and travel camera, it's excellent for that. I've never been a fan of the rangefinder mentality, where like the Fuji F100V you only get the lens that's attached to it. I find that way too limiting. I don't shoot video so I could care less about video capabilities of a 35mm camera. I've seen award winning photos come from the M-50 in the right hands. It's a great camera. I just bought the R7 yesterday, and have been playing with it. I mostly shoot full frame but occasionally it's nice to have the extended reach that a crop sensor gives you. I also got the 18-150 kit lens with it. I've shot it outside, in my studio, house, etc. with the kit lens and the images are tack sharp. So far, for what it's designed for, I like it. I don't shot birds, sports, or wildlife but for those that do it would have been nice if Canon had made provisions for a battery pack to balance the heavier lenses. Kind of a major flaw but from a still image standpoint it's freaking awesome. Finally, is the M-50 a pro camera? I shoot it, as do many pros that I know, so to me in the hands of a pro it's a pro camera.

      @FulaanCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I agree. In the right hands even an entry level camera will look pro. In the wrong hands even a pro camera will look amateur.

      Yeah, gear to me isn't inherently pro or not pro, with very few exceptions.
      There is gear that is used by far more often by pros than hobbyists but that's as far as you can really take it. One of the first cameras I used a lot to take pics that ended up in brochures and other commercial materials was an Olympus Mju or however they write the name of it, yes - I mean that tiny 35mm film camera that came out in 1991. I wouldn't call that a Pro camera really, but technically it can be, and not a bad one either.

    I have been avoiding the purchase of a camera for my TH-cam videos and suffering through a webcam for the past couple of years. I watched several of your videos this week, which gave me the confidence to go ahead and purchase the M50 Mark II. The camera arrived in 48 hours, and I could use it immediately. My first thumbnail photo was with the remote app. I'm going to have fun now!

    I'm saving up for that Sigma lens. Right now my main wide-mid range is the Sigma 17-50 f2.8, which does good but I still want wider and faster. I recently dusted off the nifty fifty and I forgot how much background separation I get off an f1.8 and how much fun it is, so that 10-35mm is next in my basket for my R7.

    • @FulaanCreative
      @FulaanCreative  ปีที่แล้ว

    I mean, this camera was designed more for run-and-gun and vloggers. It's a great photography camera though too. Also, I've never really gotten the, "Canon doesn't make lenses in the mount" thing because adapted EF lenses worked perfectly for me. Just adapt!

    • @FulaanCreative

    Thanks Fulaan. Great stuff! I bought the speed booster and Sigma 18-35. I have lots of vignetting. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

    • @FulaanCreative
      @FulaanCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Man! I appreciate you watching and commenting. The Sigma 18-35 is an APS-C lens so it needs the normal adapter not the speed booster. The adapter I use is a $40 adapter by commlite. The adapter allows you to fit EF(full frame) and EF-s(APS-c) lenses on your m50. The speed booster only allows you to use EF(full frame) lenses like the nifty fifty or any other EF full frame lens. So when you use the adapter you will still get the 1.6x crop. When you use the speed booster it reduces the crop making the lens closer to it's normal focal length. Let me know if made that explanation too confusing. If so I will try to find a video that explains crop factor in a simpler way.

    • @FulaanCreative
      @FulaanCreative  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So to address your situation with the 18-35; use it with the adapter and you will not get any vignetting.

    I subscribed about 5 videos ago lol! Love this channel Fulaan! Quick question- the remote control app and the dummy battery, will those work on the original Canon M50, the mark ii, or both? I bought the original M50 in 2020.
    I agree with what you said at the end too, about not knowing about the Sony ZV-E10 coming out in the future, as I REALLY DISLIKE the 30 minute recording limit on the M50. I also regret not waiting for the mark ii to come out, also didn't know it was on its way. I'm unbiased to both, and I could see myself trying out Sony in the future, but I'll check out your comparison video soon when I get a chance.
    Right now I don't have the budget to be purchasing anything new, so I'm here on your channel to get inspiration and learn to enjoy what I currently have, then go from there. I've honestly been using my phone for like a year and a half to take any photos or videos... as convenient and familiar as it is to do so, I know I need to step back out of my comfort zone and stop being so intimidated by traditional cameras.

    What's the app called? I didn't see the link.

      It's called canon camera connect or EOS remote, one or the other. You gotta download it from the google play store or apple store.

    I'm considering purchasing an m50 mark II for pictures of the landscape on vacation. Is it correct to gravitate more towards the speed booster for the wider FOV, and then look for EF lenses that fit it? If so, can you recommend some decent budget EF lenses to attach to the speed booster for pictures of mountains and the sky?
    Or would I be ok skipping the speed booster and buying a native sized 22mm f2 pancake lens?

      If that is the only use you will have for it then I would skip the speed booster and grab the laowa 9mm EF-m lenses instead. It's a little pricey but it's a very unique lens. If you go the speed booster route there is a f2 14mm lens by Rokinon that's looks pretty nice.

      The 22mm is also a good option but it's not super wide but for me it's wide enough for mountains and landscapes.

      @@FulaanCreative 🙏 Thank you for the suggestions and for your videos! I'm also seeing that the ef-s 55-250 f4 takes nice pictures of mountains and vistas. For a first camera with one extra lens, should a wide angle be a priority or should adding a lens with more range be the way to go? Sorry for so many nooby questions. There is truly a wealth of information and advice out there

      @@kperko i think the 22mm would be the best option. It's equal to a 35mm field of view in full frame terms which is a perfect middle ground and is extremely versatile. Ultra wide lenses are nice but can make the scene look smaller than normal unless it's a huge mountain range/ landscape. The 55-250 is nice but it will be too tight for what you are trying to do. It will however be able to compliment your 22mm and offer close up detailed shots as opposed to capturing the whole scene.

      Depends on your budget. The Canon M50, Sony ZVE-10 and Canon R10 are good first cameras.
