    This is just excellent! I have been shooting for years and pretty much know all of this, fortunately. It is one of the best videos I have seen for people new to photographers and for those of us that are more experienced and need to be reminded from time to time.

    I’ve got my Mark II a month ago and I was so excited to start making photos. After watching and reading lots of videos about the settings I was taking photos by randomly changing the setting manual mode, which gave me a bit of idea how the settings like ISO, aperture, etc are working… but it was so hard to understand what I have tot do in certain situations. So, today, I’ll start practicing by following your instructions, which has helped me by inspiring me 🙏

      great tip would be to follow a rule of thumb, but heres something that will help you out. Shutter speed( shows as 1/160 for ex) the higher the more motion you can capture like a flying bird but also the darker the picture gets. Appeture F( Ex f8) controls how wide the lens is open and changes the depth of feild. The higher the more things in focous like the subject and backgorund for like landscape pictrues. the lower the more depth of feild for portraits and add focous to the subject. and last but not least ISO, very important, increases the artaficial light on a picture on the canon eos m50 anything below 800 should be good the higher the iso the more grainy youd get, you can probably get away with nubers a bit higher but caerful abt the grain, now also search how to take hdr pictures because thats important and try using Av mode which lets your camera do most of the work but you control the appeture and iso helpful for fast shots and ya hope that helps

      @@notpoop488 Hi, I have a question. I just bought Hoya CIR-PL Slim filter (polarizer). I see that image is automatically darker. I believe to correct it I just should manuver with ISO right?
      Whats interesting is when I have ISO on AUTO without polarizer vs with polarizer, there is a significant difference in ISO and also pictures with polarizer are darker - shouldnt auto ISO adjust it to the same view (brightness) as it would be without polarizer?

    • @ArtDrone
      @ArtDrone ปีที่แล้ว

      When using manual mode, I tend to use auto ISO. Is that a good solution when shooting with polarizer filter?

      Thanks, that’s a wonderful compliment, I really appreciate it. This was shot on the Canon M6 Mark II, which is the next model up from the M50. The blurry background is achieved by the lenses being used, which also works on the M50, it’s the sigma 16mm f1.4.

    Thanks for the great quick intro to photography. I know enough photography to know I don't know that much about photography. I'm still working on developing my vision even after all these years. And with the standard camera now able to shoot both video and stills with so many options, the fundamentals become more important than ever.
    As for the rule of thirds, after many years of seeing it used, I think it is so effective because it is a method that 'makes room' for the viewer into the image. It has a psychological effect of saying 'you have a place in this experience; there is room for more here, I'm not trying to say it all for you'. Just a thought.

    Going to India for a wedding in the fall and will sneak in a morning Tiger Safari. Dilemma - take my M50Mkii and pick up the M55-200 used, or my old (weather-sealed) 70D? I have the 70-200 BIG zoom lens for the 70D, but not crazy to lug it 1/2 way around the world for 4 hours of use. I'm thinking the M55-200 should be enough...I'm not a pro, and would prefer to travel light. Thanks for all your M50 videos - they have made my use of the camera so much more informed and better!

    Just got my Canon M50 Mark 2, what you said about sometimes putting it in landscape can put in too much into the frame making whatever photo you’re trying to take seem too bloated with objects / subjects. • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmmm... try using single point autofocus. In the standard mode, the camera is trying to be a mind reader and guess what you want in focus, and it's amazing how good it actually is at that, but single point allows you to put the autofocus point on the subject and let the camera know exactly what you want in focus. That would be my first suggestion.

    Great video Mark! I think a great follow up to this video would be the mechanics of actually taking a picture using the information you provided...pick an easy subject and walk through the steps, including all of the information seen on in/on the display and evaluating the result (maybe with some basic self troubleshooting...picture was blurry, color was off, light was bad, etc.etc) ...kind of the practical application of this video. For me, I find most videos focus on settings (which are good) and photography concepts (aperture, shutter speed, iso, etc, etc)-which are also good-but fall short of actually taking a picture and evaluating the steps, adjustments etc. Maybe the beginning of a cool progression series?

    I have finally made the decision in purchasing my first mirrorless camera, the Canon M50 Mark II. I had taken photography in HS using DSLRs so I have the minimal experience using these beautiful pieces of equipment.
    I wrote this comment to give relation to the fixed focal point, as to make one move around and find their shot instead of adjusting the focal length. This is exactly how I’ve done it, but on my phone. I own an iPhone XR and it’s camera is well capable in capturing beautiful landscape photos plus a wide variety of styles. But the zoom function does not perform well in capturing clear photos. So I’ve been forced to move around as to capture the best shots possible. My camera is coming this Friday so I am ecstatic to begin shooting and learning more about photography.

    Yo, can the eyecup be removed and replaced?! If so, can you make a video how?!

      I believe it’s glued on, and not designed to be user replaceable.

    Hey Mark,
    I'm a new subscriber and newbie to cameras. Love your insight and tutorials. I recently bought a Canon M50 Mark II. I also bought a Viltrox mount adapter (EF-EOS M2 0.71X) thinking I could use it with the 4K setting but the lens kit that comes with the camera does not fit. What can I do to correct this? Thanks.

    Great video. For white balance for night street photography, and custom K, what should it be set at?

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Great question, that really depends on both the lights that are around, and what look for are going for. Play with them when you are actually on the street, and find the look (Color’s) that look best to you. If you shoot jpg and raw (setting in the camera), you can change the white balance in editing, with no colour loss or sacrifice, with the raw files.

      Start wit the kit lens and shoot lots of photos. As you progress you will naturally be drawn to certain focal lengths.
