Hey Jason, great video but $700 isn't really budget for most people, could you do another video on true budget cameras under $300 perhaps, maybe try to search the used market and document ur journey in finding a used camera under $300. Thanks!
ZV-E10 MK I is a no brainer at that price. it shoot a great video if you have a steady hand, and it takes great photos that still looks sharp even when you crop in!
Very nice getting confirmation that I bought, almost, the right things as a beginner. I started a few months ago and I have the a6000 and the 30mm prime 1.4, so almost the same. The combo rocks.
same, I had the a6000 for a while but with kit lens. then i bought the sigma lens. SO much better than my samsung A54, which i will no longer depend on with pics.
The A6100 was my first camera ever. It really was the perfect budget camera to start out with! only reason I upgraded was for the picture profiles in full frame and newer cameras
It so good to see this videos for beginners. I just bought recently a Sony a6700 with a Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS lens and this video gave me the courage to start making those videos that I bought this camera for. Thank you!!!
oddly enough cameras are one area where I don't mind not having usb c. It's always more efficient to charge your batteries in a dedicated charger and use a card reader for your cards. Aside from the odd firmware upgrade once a blue moon, you don't ever actually need to use the usb connection.
@JimBobIJones there is nothing “more efficient” about carrying and using a separate battery charger, if you only need one battery per day… which I have only ever needed.
@coder543 You're joking right? It's all about how fast you can charge. You are pretty much locking yourself into very slow charging if you charge via usb. This is day 1 stuff when it comes to cameras. Using the in body USB is going to take at least twice as long as using a dedicated charger. And that's with USB C. Each to their own but most photographers and videographers are going to need more than one battery, especially with the np-fw50 which is incredibly low capacity.
@JimIBobIJones no… that shows you don’t understand USB-C. USB-C can provide as much power as the battery can take… it’s just a matter of whether the device is designed to charge the battery quickly or not. There is absolutely no reason a dedicated charger needs to be faster. I have an electrical engineering degree, and I have designed printed circuit boards, in addition to writing software. I know what I’m talking about here. And regardless, if your needs are met by a single battery per day, then it doesn’t matter how fast it can charge when you have all night. A *lot* of people clearly agree with my desire for USB-C, as you can see from the upvotes on the top comment in this thread. Providing USB-C doesn’t prevent people from using a dedicated charger, of course, and many dedicated battery chargers these days use USB-C too.
I just started out this year with a NEX-6 and no idea if I would enjoy photography. Despite my desire, after taking it out a few times, all my shots were 'blah.' But then I took it with me a GT3 auto race with a rental lens and was suddenly was hooked. Now I want the fastest, latest, greatest Sony camera on the market and to quit my job to do motorsport photography even though out of 100s of photos only a handful were keepers (due to my general inexperience and a fast moving subject)!
These cameras are good for learning purpose. I have Sony a6400 and with the Tamron 17-70mm it gives almost perfect results that I wanted . Still learning to shoot with slog but grading 8bit is just hard. My advice would be if you have the budget , just go for a 10bit camera it will make your life way easier.
I started with photography like 3 months ago and for me alpha 7 and alpha 6000 were the 2 options. I went for the alpha 6000 and i must say its soo awesome. I got the body for 250 and a ttartisans 35mm with f1.4 for 50€. All used but in a pretty good condition. I also got 2 aftermarket Baterries with twice the power which are in my opinion a must have for the camera. I guess all in all i payed 320ish. The f1.4 is sooo important if you want to go for low light performance because i would exactly this is the "big" problem for this camera. Videowise i would not get this camera if you are planning to film a lot. Also i think a lot of the reviewers forget how compact this camera is. I can easily put it in my jacket and take it with me and for street photography this formfactor is perfect. You dont interupt any people and also dont attract a lot of attention. Another point it that the preset on the camera is handling the colours really good. It different to the newer models which make the photo look really modern? cold? The colors on the a6000 at least on my one are really soft they kinda pop but not really too much to look unnatural. Really good for beginners because the raw picture has such a clean whitebalance so you dont have to edit it alot or maybe at all which can be really confusing for beginners. one big downside is that it still uses microUSb which is a pain. Quality of the camera/ my setup is pretty good. A bit of vignette but for streetphotography not a problem. The sharpness is really decent and ngl as long as you dont plan to print it out on a 2x2 metres canvas, you good to go. Financialwise perfect. Setup didnt cost that much i would say if you want a setup asap you will pay kinda 400 but if you take your time 300-350 is possible. Also i saw a lot of videos where people used the kitlens and it did seem fine. APC-S lenses are also less expensive than fullframe ones and there are a lot of aftermarket items for this camera available. For me important too is how stable the price is for this camera. It a decently old camera and the price has been kinda stable around 300€ so if you decide to drop photography after i dunno 6 months you can sell this camera for nearly the same price i would say. Ye so all in all i am very very happy about this camera. No problems at all. But tbh we live in a era where it is really difficult to buy a camera which really disappoint you so just go for a camera you feel good about you cant really make a bad decision. (as long as you dont go for c mount) imo sony e-mount is the way to go
If you are looking for a budget lenses check the viltrox I have the same camera and with sony 50 mm 1.8, viltrox 20mm 2.8 and sony 55-210mm bought them new and great prices
Going on Alaskan cruise and wanna get some good pictures of glaciers and while watching want something preferably smaller and don’t have to worry about lens attachments. Any recommendations
Grat informative video, thank you. But curious about one thing. Why do you say you need to buy a new lens after 3-5 years. I always thought a good lens was timeless, but camera bodies can change quite a bit. So it would almost seem more practical to keep the good old lens and purchase an updated body after 3-5 years.
Still loving the ZVE-10 after two years. With the pancake ttartisans 27mm 2.8 it is tiny, light, sharp & cheap, if you don’t mind vignetting on the wide apertures. I use some nice full frame glass on it in the video studio.
A7iii is getting cheaper and cheaper, got mine new for $850 which is a deal here in Mexico. A7iii is just so superior to many cameras and does everything

in my country here, a6100 is discontinue and 0 stock brand new, and somewhat less used. while the a6000 you can still find unopen box, brand new, used easily. the other budget choice will be the zv-e10. but personally i will recommend a6000/6100 for that extra viewfinder.
I stretched my budget for 1000$ and contemplated between older full frame and all the brands of apsc. You'll never get good results a high end camera with a not good lens. So factoring in the lens not just a camera body. I wound up with a used a6400 with the Sony 18-135 lens which is great and just recently got the tamron 17-70. fantastic camera for the budget. And if you look at rtings the a6400 has some of the highest dynamic range and sharpness of the apsc lineup i.e compare to the canon r7 for the price. I only shoot in raw and I process in Lightroom so to me the a6400 is just a no brainer.
The A6100 is discontinued and difficult to find, even used. Hence the A6400 should be the one to look out for, since it's dropped in price so much, and can be found used since it sold very well throughout the years.
Jason, you forgot to mention the crop factor that is inherent for APS-C cameras when used with full frame lenses. That 35 mm will never give you that '35mm' look like you were saying. It is a 52,5 mm on these cameras. You need about a 24mm lens on an APS-C camera to get that '35mm' FF look.
@@JasonVong Wanted to point out the same thing but I give you that that it makes sense to keep it simple here. Nevertheless wouldn't it be a better option to look into something like the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 for the 35mm look?
6:23 Complaining about the extra crop from active stabilization on the Sigma 30mm is a weird criticism. That will put it at around the same focal length of the Sony, and both are way to narrow to do selfie video. I used to have the Sony 35mm but couldn't stand the horrible color fringing. Eventually upgraded to a camera with IBIS and the Sigma 30mm which I'm very happy with.
In my place a brand new a6100 cost $600 roughly where as the a6600 comes at $700 roughly (during sale and offers). I myself wanted to get the a6100/6400 but when I saw the price the a6600 was a no brainer. All of these prices are body only, and personally I do think that IBIS in a6600 brings in a huge difference, allowing you to use manual lenses.
@@archan_ghosh yup, that is one pricey body but the ibis is damn good... With tamron 17-70 mm that also have lens stabilization it might go even lower, even with a6400 that lens can go as low as 1/40 handheld, 1/20 while sitting...
I love my zve10, but the only thing that really hurts me is the lack of antiflicker/var. shutter. I feel like this was such a huge oversight. I want to create desk content and the RGB lights in my keyboard for example, always make lines because despite my efforts of watching tons of videos, asking Reddit, looking up articles and conducting tests ad nauseam, I continue to see the same issue. I’ve tried changing pal/ntsc, I’ve changed the profile, I’ve changed the shutter speed more times than I can count through all these tests. I’ve tried 30fps 24fps, etc. literally every basic fix for this to no avail. Online the results were just to turn the lights off or buy a camera with this feature 💀
I just thought about this on Saturday... I was shooting comparison videos, a6400 vs a6700, and the a6400 was surprisingly good, I thought, "yeah, filming with the ZV-E10 must be quite good with its active stabilisation, a6400 can't put up with that"
@@jdeuce111806 For video, one should really get a cam with in-body image stabilization or a cam with active stabilization (which is a digital solution). For stills, most situations are fine without ibis, IMHO.
WHY bother with APS-C, if I can stick to Micro 4/3 and get all current new camera bodies with built in stabilisation, the lenses are half the size and weight, and the image quality is as good as full frame within 1 f-stop? Best of all, focusing was already as good as instant with my lenses (Olympus kit 14-42mm, 40-150mm tele, and Sigma DN 19, 30, 60mm f/2.8) 12 years ago with my PL6, and then my PL8, and has only gotten better. Touch the screen, camera focuses instantly on touched area and fires without noticeable delay, I never had an out of focus "stinker" with touch focus, and the colours are fantastic, and this continues with the current OM and Panasonic cameras. The only exceptions to full sensor stabilisation are the Panasonic G100 with only electronic stabilisation and leftover G7 models still on sale. If you want video-centric, just get a Panasonic GH5 and newer, which has in body stabilisation, or a used GH3/GH4 and stabilised lenses, while Olympus (now OM Systems) is not as full pro in video, but good enough for amateurs and occasional less picky broadcast quality. Do not pay attention to self declared gurus telling the tale of the dead m4/3, the system is as alive and well as any other. If anything, I would not bet on the major Canon, Nikon, and Sony lines, which have seen several new systems in just the last 20 years with several abandoned without much notice (Nikon 1inch, all DSLRs, and some APS-C mounts I need to dig for in history pages), while m4/3 has been steady, and is still the most compact high image quality system out there for both photography and videography AND is still used in pro-cinema!
What about some of the 3rd party lens i see in Amazon that are cheap? I saw some wide angle lens for like 45. Decent review stars. But I want your opinion on those. And a similar lens like the 35 mm you recommend but cheaper?
Jason: I have taken over 123K shots with my A6000. It has been a great camera. I looked at the a6100 and it is a step up. Honestly, I was hoping an a6200 would come out with an upgraded sensor like the a6700. I like the 6100 because it works exactly the same way as the a6000. yet, is there any information about a forthcoming A6200???
@@JasonVong Thanks for the reply! Interestingly, as the years have gone by, I use the A6000 EVF more and more. In addition, I used the Fuji XT5 for a week last year. I was impressed by the low noise, 40 megapixel, crop sensor. Perhaps not true, but I read that Sony makes the XT5 sensor. Loved the XT5 low noise & clean images but found my A6000 still had better focus. Perhaps the 6700 is using a similar kind of sensor?
Ive had an a6400 for about 2 years and somethings wrong with the shutter, when I go to take photos it'll double shutter and make an error. I've committed to photography and love it a lot so I think I'm going to save my money and upgrade. But I don't know if I want to upgrade to an a6700 or go full frame with the a7iii. I do car/motorsports photography and toy/miniature photography for the most part. Any recommendation on either?
I say getting a used a6500 over new a6100 is much more worth it for photography. And as for video camea the fuji xm5 is also great option . Its kinda unfortunate that there is not real budget option for a hybrid setup 😢.
Even though I bought the Sony A6700 last year, my old a5100 remains my most used camera. I don't do video so the 1080p limit is no issue, and it's so much smaller than even the A6100, it's the best everyday carry ever. I wish Sony would release the A5700. Same ultra small body, 26mp sensor (or the 40mp one they sell to Fuji), no EVF (but a built in flash), no IBIS (because not everybody does video), with updated autofocus / color profiles, all for less than $1000. 🤩
Coming back to photography after a long spell away due to health issues, I got a second-hand Sony a6000 a couple of years ago and absolutely hated it. Everything about it just seemed to bug me, but the lack of a decent viewfinder was the worst aspect for me. Ended up selling it shortly after and giving up on photography again for a while, but I recently got a loan of a Nikon D610 from a friend and my god it just feels so much more satisfying and 'right' to me. I guess I'm just an old fart who doesn't really like screen-composing my photos. Viewfinder all the way, baybay! (Also, something was WEIRD about the Sony's image colour. Not really super off, just... I dunno, like not quite right in some hard to fathom way.)
Honestly the best option for a beginner on a reasonable budget is the A6100/ZV-E10 with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I don't think there's a better option than that.
I like the Sony A7c (original)...only thing I dislike is the side flip screen...I don't use my film cameras for video...Cell phones are good enough...The Sony cameras are for my street photography here in Bangkok.
Hi, I really like your content, and I was wondering if you could do me a favor and recommend the best lenses for different scenarios using my Sony A6700. I’m interested in portrait, macro, street photography, landscape, and people shots. I’d really appreciate your response. My budget limit is currently maxed at 1200€ for the lenses I’d like to start with. Thank you! ❤
In last sale in India- ZV -E10 (590USD) & A6600 (710USD🎇) Which is better value? I think a6600 gives much more in extra 120$ As of lenses 50mm f1.8 oss (260$) Sigma 56mm f1.4 (415$+) Although sigma would be my fab pick, but much costly than sony , which has oss
@Commonyou7149 Sony first introduced real-time tracking with the Alpha 6400 camera in 2019. It's since been added to many other Sony cameras, including the Alpha 9, Alpha 6600, Alpha 6100, Alpha 7R IV, and RX100 VII.
It has a much much smaller sensor so it won't have the same amount of dynamic range these cameras does. However, it's still a fantastic pocket camera that will do just fine in daytime and in areas with lots of lights! For low light, bring a tripod!

I recently got the a6400 on cyber Monday and I'm loving it! Very compact and powerful. Finally upgraded from my nikon d3100 and it's leagues better.

I do prefer the ZV-E10 due to the flippable and rotatable screen (especially with vertical content) and it has usb-c 😎

Jason , I love this. You should do a video about buying the best full frame lenses for the sony a7siii.
I didn't want to overwhelm someone who's new to all of it with that kind of information 😅 esp since buying a camera can be so overwhelming already.
Do you think the Lumix GX85 still worth it?
In my place a brand new a6100 cost $600 roughly where as the a6600 comes at $700 roughly (during sale and offers). I myself wanted to get the a6100/6400 but when I saw the price the a6600 was a no brainer. All of these prices are body only, and personally I do think that IBIS in a6600 brings in a huge difference, allowing you to use manual lenses.
I just picked up a a6600 and I can't wait.
Just testing a6700, for ibis it is way better than a6600... I can handheld 1/10 with no problem...
@@alphaxfang a6700 is more than double of what a6600 cost :(
I love my a6600
@@archan_ghosh yup, that is one pricey body but the ibis is damn good...
Would you say the Canon Powershot G7X Mk2/3 come close to it?
I just thought about this on Saturday... I was shooting comparison videos, a6400 vs a6700, and the a6400 was surprisingly good, I thought, "yeah, filming with the ZV-E10 must be quite good with its active stabilisation, a6400 can't put up with that"
Is there any noticeable video sensitivity improvement with a6700 over a6400?
@@Hanz-d7f I have no own experience with that but according to YT reviews there's not much of a difference
@@jhirse3547 Thanks. That's the impression I got as well.
Since the 6400 does not have ibis, do you see any image stabilization issues?
@@jdeuce111806 For video, one should really get a cam with in-body image stabilization or a cam with active stabilization (which is a digital solution). For stills, most situations are fine without ibis, IMHO.
what is your camera and lens for your top view angles for products? looks so sharp and clean! 🔥
Usually an APS-C camera with the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8
Can you make video on black friday camera offers
i started with the a6100 and the sigma 16mm 1.4. gangsta combo!
But 35mm? Thats not very wide, whats a good 18mm? maybe 18-25 or so?
I was about to double-tap the ‘skip’ button when I heard “Keh Cameras”. 4:46
crisp video. on point.
I honestly don't think there would be a "a6200" Your best bet is the ZV-E10 II, which is the cheaper a6700 minus the IBIS and EVF. 😭
Sony a6400 vs Fuji X-M5 vs Nikon Z50 m2. What would you chose for photos as first camera?
Go for Sony if you need real sticky, tracking Af and good budget lens support. You will have less misses in tracking birds, animals, sports and kids.
Is sony a6600 is better then these camera which you suggest us
I say getting a used a6500 over new a6100 is much more worth it for photography.
Jason if you have any old lens sitting on your shelf collecting dust ,please send it to me 😂 I'll make the most of it
I have 1000 and want to upgrade… I was using canon t7
What camera do you suggest me upgrading to ?
I can’t make up mind 😭
Running on the T7 currently, and been looking at used FX-30’s or Alpha 3 or 4’s on offer up around 1-1.5K.
Whats the best budget camera for low light conditions think a rave or night festival
I would look into lenses with fast apertures like F/1.8 or F/1.4.
Should I buy the lens kit with zv e 10 or save the money and for the lens you suggested
What is your recommendations for an all in one lens for both photo & video? i have a6400 :)
Tamron 17-70mm 2.8
I use a6400 and love it, would have been better if it had type C port.
Would you recommend the A6700 to a pro as a backup body?
Yes, it would be my top pick for APS-C!
A6700 is a goat either in photo or video, having all ZVE10 features
I mainly do photography, does the Picture Profile help when taking pictures? Or that feature only applies for video?
Honestly the best option for a beginner on a reasonable budget is the A6100/ZV-E10 with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. I don't think there's a better option than that.
I like the Sony A7c (original)...only thing I dislike is the side flip screen...I don't use my film cameras for video...Cell phones are good enough...The Sony cameras are for my street photography here in Bangkok.
What about Samyang 35mm F1.8
Without ibis stabilizer...the lenses is expensive... best is Olympus mirrorless if you are not professional..
Went with the A6400...is it worth the extra money over the A6100???
I wouldn’t worry too much! A6400 is very good!
I think I would go for a Leica, very cheap and affordable
That's important idea 🎉
Plz suggest me the best camera for photography and film making and vloging and content creation all round camera under 800$
I started with a Panasonic Lumix S5 II X 😅
As a total beginner, i can either buy a a7c for around 1100$ or a a6400 for around 830$ both with kit lens. what should i get?
If the a7C is in your budget, go for it!
Hi,
I really like your content, and I was wondering if you could do me a favor and recommend the best lenses for different scenarios using my Sony A6700. I’m interested in portrait, macro, street photography, landscape, and people shots. I’d really appreciate your response.
My budget limit is currently maxed at 1200€ for the lenses I’d like to start with.
Thank you! ❤
I've done a video recommending 3 of my top lenses for a6700 th-cam.com/video/RijCQr8oA_Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2OPLABNMR0a29Pep
Hie Jason, how do I get tack sharp photos like yours?? I feel mine can be much much better.
haha I do have a video on this! th-cam.com/video/1z-rq4RM2go/w-d-xo.html
In last sale in India- ZV -E10 (590USD) & A6600 (710USD🎇)
Which is better value?
I think a6600 gives much more in extra 120$
As of lenses
50mm f1.8 oss (260$)
Sigma 56mm f1.4 (415$+)
Although sigma would be my fab pick, but much costly than sony , which has oss
Does a6600 support real-time tracking??
@Commonyou7149 Sony first introduced real-time tracking with the Alpha 6400 camera in 2019. It's since been added to many other Sony cameras, including the Alpha 9, Alpha 6600, Alpha 6100, Alpha 7R IV, and RX100 VII.
What about Fujifilm XM5?
Im looking to buy the fujifilm x-m5.
Why not Canon EOS R50?
I got my A6500 in 2022 for 550 used, and looking at ebay now its 450ish.
What about 2024 Fuji m5 ?
2:02 I always thought these ZV cameras were white underneath the covers too. so weird to see
hello i have SIGMA1850, and I want to buy a wide one lens compare with sony 15 and 11, which you would recommend if I just street photography
Where do I find the microphone attachment relocator
would rx100 va be in the same ball park as these?
It has a much much smaller sensor so it won't have the same amount of dynamic range these cameras does. However, it's still a fantastic pocket camera that will do just fine in daytime and in areas with lots of lights! For low light, bring a tripod!
Hwy didn't you mention ZVE10 Mark ||
i bought a very cheap sony zv e10 but it waS in a very good condition
is the x100t still good for anything coz my unc is selling me for 400-600$ (im into travel and street)
At that point why not just use smartphone cameras?
