Every other video had the camera positioned immediately on the starter. Thank you for taking the time to show the location of the starter from different vantage points. It helped a lot!
How did your starter mess up so quick? I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado that I have had for 10 years and have never replaced a starter. I'm just here to search in case I ever have to do it. The only major thing I had to change on it was the water pump.
@@strangeroamer3219 First time was because it was contaminated with oil from a rear main seal link and eventually stopped cranking. Replaced with the factory part. 2nd time was because the solenoid would no longer retract all the way.
Thanks a bunch dude. I climbed out from under my dad's truck, read the manual then said, "There's gotta be an easier way. I'm checking youtube." Lol. I thought the dipstick tube was going to be in my way. Thanks for the good camera angles and pointing out the orientation for front or back. That was helpful. I've worked on stuff my whole life and I'm pretty handy at it but it's always nice to get instruction from someone who has already done that particular job.
So much easier if you take the fender well off, you have easier access to the nuts, i just took my son's off today, more room to maneuver the starter, & put nuts back on, all truck wires are installed / or positioned in different angles, i found it easier this way
Awesome explanation. Really appreciate the attention to detail, and explaining what direction you're looking, etc - that helps so much. Going to attempt changing mine now!
Took off the shield before I dropped the starter. Put the shield back on after I had the starter in place. You can do it through the wheel well, or from under the truck.
uh what about the dust shield? maybe found it later ? or noticed the housing was full of muck? I like that room there, Mines the 2001 5.3 engine ugh yup trying to put mine back in & wow. . .
When you showed replacing the starter in the trans housing, the dust cover was not on the starter. It showed up later when you replaced the 11mm bolt. You should have filmed inserting the starter with the dust cover hanging from it...

Your video checks the two most important boxes: excellent lighting, and well placed steady camera. Good job.
Perfect job on this video! My truck has the same problem. You've made this job easy. Thanks a million!!
Excellent!!! Replaced the starter on 2004 Rado (6/16/2024). No real issues but figured it was time. Easy process but a little tight getting in there.
I just bought a 2001 Siverado with a bad starter and dude I’ve gotta say… your video is so much better than others. Thank you.
I did this job 7 years ago myself, but this was a perfect refresher because I need to do it yet again...lol.

Super nice video. Good detail with understanding instructions and nut/bolt sizes stated. Best idea with AC DELCO part. Do it once and be done with it.
I'm going to roll with the 1aauto starter. I'll be watching this video as I install it Thursday.
Good video, made me realize I’m going to have to just take it to my mechanic lol.
Great video my guy👏🏼

“Thirtyyyyy seven pounds!”
What size pass through socket did you use?
On the 13, I used a 13. On the 14, I used a ......14.
What size bolt is that for the cover shield?
11mm
Have a question what type of sounds was ur starter making on the old one
Kindof grinding/whining. I put it in the video, but hard to hear.
Did u take off the shield or left it on
Took off the shield before I dropped the starter. Put the shield back on after I had the starter in place. You can do it through the wheel well, or from under the truck.
Is it the same for 4 wheel drive?
About how does this take on average.
Your shoes?
Are there ground wires attached to the starter wire is that a different set of wires?
If I understand your question, I would say the wires going to your starter/solenoid are not ground wires.
@@fixitquick69 thank you

What do I do if the cable that connects to the starter is split in half?
If you mean it frayed/has come apart, I would put a new terminal and some heat shrink on it.
@@fixitquick69 I'm not sure how to explain it but the part that goes over/around the screw split in half
@@chalkyeye5956 I would call that part a "ring terminal". Start googling.
@@fixitquick69 thanks
Question would something happen if I don’t unplug the oil level sensor???
It's just to get it out of your way. Not gonna mess anything up if you don't do it.
Was this a 4x2?
Yup.
@@fixitquick69 4WD has LESS room to work with.
It’s a pain on 4wd 🤬
uh what about the dust shield?

A wizard did it.
The designer of this crap should be prosecuted
I don't wear comfortable shoes
Ya, it fuck'n sucked. Would have been a lot worse if not for your tips.
It's never a good idea to wear jewelry while mechanicking
Can I still wear my earrings and tiara?
