My 2001 v6 was a little different ...Just two 13mm Bolts holding it.Got the job done last night. Was a bit unsure of doing it .Thank you very much sir !!! it works GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ty for posting. This video gave me courage. 4wd trucks are a bit tighter than this. Reattaching the bigger wire took some doin'. 10% sorcery. 90% stubborness
I can't seem to fit my starter back in place and my dust cover broke apart. Help me 😂
Thank you!!!!!!! Your video is the only one that keeps it real and straight to the point and no bull!!!!
Other guys on here will tell you to take off the wheel and make so difficult to take the starter out of its place. Thank you!!!!!!!!🎉
Thank you. I'm glad it helped out
As you said, there are many videos but this one explains everything, thank you
Great job explaining all the details.
I've changed my starter before, and like you I never removed the tire.
A Big thank you,, This vid helped alot..Plus knowing all the wrench sizes made it so much Faster...TY again.
Thank you!
Great video! I am fixing up my late grandfathers 2003 Silverado so this video was very helpful thank you!
Glad it helped!
This video helped a lot I changed my start on my 01 Silverado single cab I honestly thought it was ganna be a hassle but it took maybe 30 mins tops to take it off and install the new one . I appreciate it 🤘🏽
Thank you!
This is the best video I seen on the starter replacement thank you for all your help. It t made it really easy for me to replace.
Glad to help out thank you!
Helpful video. Thanks for posting. Just changed the starter in my 2002 Suburban and it wasn't too bad.
Thank you!
I would suggest 2 things. One is that you clean up the wire terminals so that they are free of any corrosion. Nice clean metal for optimal electrical flow.
The other is to definitely not over tighten the nuts on the starter wires. I had someone over tighten them on a new starter for me, and a few months later the starter needed to be replaced. Over tightening apparently caused damage to wires on the inside. Twisting them off or something.
Yours went in a lot easier than mine. In fact. Mine is still hanging half way in. Had to take a break. 😂
Thank you. This was very helpful. 😀
You're welcome!
Fantastic job. I’ll tackle my starter and do it this way. Your video editing is great!!! Explain what is needed, why and cut out the chatter that everyone else does. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Great video it's helped frfr
Great video going to switch my starter hope it goes well lol

Hey bro not sure if you’ll see this since it’s an old video but I changed my starter on my Chevy and when I go to turn it on it cranks for like 5-10 secounds and then turns on any tips on why that could be
Thanks!
Great video thank you for sharing. Liked and subscribed
Thank you!
question. i have an 05 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Alternator has been recently replaced as of less than a month, refurbished Duralast, battery is a yellow cap Optima. recently her start has been sluggish, charged the battery assuming it was that. it was fine for a bit but started the sluggish start again after .. a week, and there’s times where it’s super sluggish, like a full 1 mississippi and a half second type of start. now she’s starting up again with the slug start and i’ve charged this battery twice at this point. she’s not being nice with me pero la tengo chiquiada. 😭
I liked this video, especially when you said not to be timid pushing the wires to get the old starter free. But your 03 Silverado and my 05 Yukon Denali are very different: the Denali is 4WD. There is a LOT less room to install my new starter.
Yeah. I have a 05 Silverado and it’s 4x4. I recently had to replace the crankshaft position sensor and while doing it you have to remove the starter. The sensor is above the starter. Luckily you just need to unbolt and push it out of the way.. But while in there I realized how tough it would be to actually change the starter. And my truck is almost at 212k miles so it’s only a matter of time
I have a 2008 escalade with the 6.2 awd and I didn't see much of a difference but that might be different from silverados
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE maybe it a not a 4x4 thing but some of them have 2 transmission cooler lines running very close to the starter. Close enough that you have to push them out of the way to remove the starter/install new one
Does this work the same way in a diesel?
You don't have to remove the tire on your make and model because you have four-wheel drive and it probably sits a little bit higher. Your video is very educational
Do you have any videos on replacing or reinstalling a year 2000 g20, bumper?
I only have one showing me installing a text front bumper
Actually, the first thing to check would be a starter relay and fuse, not replacing the starter.
Great vid! What are the dimensions of the bolt holding up the plastic shield? Mine is missing the shield and bolt.
I'm not sure of the dimensions, but it's a 10mm take another bolt off the truck that's a 10mm. It should be the same style
Prefect
Is process the same on 6.0 3500?
I tried changing mine but one the screws wouldn’t go in, any help?
"Today we're gunna change the starter on a 2003 Chebby Silverado" 😆
😄 at least you still watched
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Some of my old friends call it a,
Chevito...
that’s how you know it’s bouta be a good ass video
Thank you for the video. I am currently stuck. Unable to get the starter out. I keep hitting something on the back and it will not slip out as it did in your video.
Rotate it around it will come out
@ERICSDIYGARAGE thank you. I got it out, changed it, and back in. The truck is running great! Thank you for the step by step video and also detailing which tools to use. The 6-inch socket extender was a gamechanger!
Great video, Stuck at the gas station. Asked someone for a jump.. I let it charge for five minutes and she started up, would that still, be the starter? Im parked now and I go to start it and it makes a click sound…
Sounds like that's a battery issue if it started with a jump
What does it mean when you turn the key and it clicks non stop until you let go of the key, battery is good and full of gas?
Weak battery is usually the case
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE I replaced tbe battery and it seems to be working , but what kind of confuses me is when I tried jump starting it wouldn’t even attempt to try and turn over. 🤷
@thatsallfolks3115 okay try and check the starter it could be that the connection to the back is loose
3:18 sir did you use an impact on this socket
No I used a breaker bar it said it came with a lifetime warranty 😂
Mine just clicks does that mean it could be a bad wire?
Clicking could be the seleniod, so the motor could be bad in the starter
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE would that be affected at all if i have a kill switch?
@@shadowfire9319 no
Thanks for the help 👍🏼
Mine just continuously clicks. Is it still the starter
Yeah
Have your battery checked.
0:51 0:51 that’s what my truck was doing the other day it’s in the shop now and they want $2500 for a starter
Chebby
Been smacking my starter for a month because if I take it out the flywheel will fall out, (the truck was never taken care of and nothing was ever changed in it)
No sound
Looks like you had a bad solenoid. Probably did not need to replace the whole starter, especially after you tapped it and it started.
It is better to replace it all together to avoid any future issues, and since it was a customers vehicle, more reason to fix it properly
If one part of the starter is bad why not replace the whole starter? Will save a hassle in the future buddy
You did a terrible job of showing where the starter was. You just started going under the truck with the camera and then just switched to a frame where you already found it
Haha it's super easy to find, If you couldn't find it yourself, you probably shouldn't attempt to replace the starter to begin with
He did better than the other video s he explained it better the other video s they just talk
it’s not hard to find a starter
If you can’t find the starter on these trucks then you just need to bring yours to a shop
Wtf you talking about man this is a great video better than most I have seen but there's always a sissy that likes to cry
Thanks!
Thank you I appreciate it!
