Dead on correct! Patience is key, and keep an eye on where the back of the starter is going while you are twisting and turning to remove. Just completed on my 2002 Z71 Avalanche.
For sure😅
It's been a long time, but I recall the "joy" of having to replace the starter... Watching and Supporting, LIKING your video!
The older cars was much easier, they had more room but they weight 3x more than the new ones. 🙄
Well done John. You said it, "patience" yes much patience and dexterity needed to work on these vehicles today. At least you had some nice weather to work in.This past week I installed the alternator on the Saturn Vue in 20deg F to 22 degrees F. I am just about thawed out LOL.
That cold weather is not something I want to see again in my lifetime. I moved out of NY in 79 and added south and never looked back, just me in a 131 FIAT. Truth be told I just hated the city but loved upstate.
I know what you mean. I use to look forward to the winter but now ( maybe due to age LOL) Spring & Fall are my time of year. Lived in the city then moved upstate in 73. Was heading south ( SC) back in 98 but plans change.
Enjoying this Playlist
Have a great day.
Gotta love youtube, There's pretty much nothing we can't do.Happy New Year John and Family!
Thanks for you great comment Robert. We had a nice New Year day.
That's indeed requires lots of patience. Great tutorial.

Very welcome
love a good DYI video .Looks like a tight spot Good work as always John . Have a great Sunday my friend .
Thank you and hope you are having a nice Sunday as well.
@@JohnCRV thanks
Cool video! I used to have Chevy Silverado but fortunately I had no problems with a starter.
thanks for the visit and comment, have a great week.
Thank you. Just happened to me. It's -27 degrees celsius. I don't have a heated garage 😱🇨🇦👍🙏
Oh wow! Sorry to hear that.
@@JohnCRV Thank you. I think this weekend it's going to drop to 0 celsius. I will attempt then. I have a new solenoid. Which I will replace on the old starter 🙏🇨🇦
Morning it's looking okay Hope you guys keep up good work help one that have that kind truck God bless
Thanks 👍 We will be doing many more repairs and upgrades to this truck. God Bless
Great tips on what to look out for as the job progresses...
That’s useful info for anyone needing to do this job
Thanks Jane.
Great replacement John!
Looks great, sounds fantastic! THUMBS UP👍👍
Looked like kind of a tight fit there for a minute. Nice job guys!
A little tight but patience gets it done.you guys have a great week.
Wowww very educational dear👏👏👏👏I will be coming to learn more❤️❤️❤️❤️Happy new year my love
Happy New Year to you as well and thank you for your visit.
Oh how I know that sound. Unfortunately I didn't know how to fix it so had to go to the mechanic. Interesting to watch. Thanks
I hate that sound. Luckily we enjoy working on cars most of the time and gives my son and I time together.
Some starters aren't bad to get at but some are a nightmare. Happy New Year!!!
I agre my friend. Thanks for the comment.
I never will forget the time I had to change the starter in my 68 Barracuda. The only way to get it out and the new one in was to unbolt the engine block and lift it up about 6" with a floor jack. 😂😂
That had to be a beast. I had a 1969 Grand Prix, the starter was 3 times the size and weight of this one. LOL
Very useful, good repair to know how to do.
Thanks Mark
Great job dear John!!!You are awesome👏👏👏Happy New Year and Cheers🥂🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year and Cheers🍸🍾🎉🥂😉👌
@@JohnCRV Cheers🥂🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Year!
Thanks, Happy New Year to you too.
Sometimes the jobs that require a lot of patients are the hardest ones! Trying to fiddle around with getting the starter in and out can be super frustrating. Great job getting it done though.
I agree my friend.... I hope people can read between the lines where the (bad words are left out) LOL But its always easier to have that 3rd hand to help out, it makes it much easier. Just getting the tools is a lot of help. Not to mention the safety by having someone there to lookout for you. We live and learn. I wish you and yours a Healthy and Happy New Year. Josh.
Great help. Very simply explained and great visuals. Good work, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
It's a hard-to-reach position that you think that the factory workers are doing all they can to make life hard for anyone trying to "steal" their job :)
All the best in 2019 and a lot of beautiful videos!
Thanks fort the comment its mind boggling to me that they couldn't curve the 2 metal lines outward more, there's plenty of room to do it but to save a extra 4 inches they put it right in the way of the starter. Weird🤔. Have a Happy New Year.
thats nice tip. thanks for sharing and happy New year👌
Thanks and Happy and Healthy New Year🍸🍾
Very interesting. Well done 👍🏼... So, its not always the battery... 🤔 Good to know.
Thanks for sharing.
🐺 🐾

Thank you for your visit and comment.
Nice tips John. Happy New Year to you and your family!!
Thank you for the visit and comment
Pro tip, there's a ten mm bolt that holds on a small sheild where the stater goes in. With that loosened up it makes things much easier. I hope that helps somebody out there.
Good tip!
Hi John wow another lesson, excellently done Happy New Year and thanks for all the support. Like 38 Gary

Thank you and Happy New Year.
amazing job mate always annoys me how difficult they make vehicles to work on nowadays
*😀🔍full watch✅ support to one another🔎🎭✅ gave a like 👍🇦🇺👍😀*
I agree Billy. I believe the engineers should be made to work on vehicles before they design anything. LOL
Well done👏👏👏, I love educational videos
Thank you.

Thanks for the tutorial and help.... gave you a like!!!
Thank you for the comment.I'm glad it helped.
I would rather take a beating than do a job like this. Any time I have tried to tackle a mechanic job, I always broke something, lost something or injured myself or all of the above! Hahahahah. Happy New Year John!
LOL, I know what you mean 🙄 I learned something over the years, always have that 3rd hand to help out, it makes it much easier. I usually mess up on a job this difficult when I try doing it by myself. Just getting the tools is a lot of help. Not to mention the safety having someone there to lookout for you. We live and learn. I wish you and yours a Healthy and Happy New Year.
@@JohnCRV These days, I have a car repair category in my budget so I can have someone do it for me. It is better all the way around that way. Heading that way in the morning and I hope to be able to celebrate New Years in Florida.
You are better off that way. LOL it’s no fun when you get injured 🤕
I’m glad to hear that 👍 we will be in Disney on the 2nd. I wish you a safe trip. Just think, once you are in Georgia you can start taking off your sweater and by the time you are in Florida you will be in shorts😅 Safe traveling my friend.
@@JohnCRV Enjoy your Disney trip. Are you going to be staying at Fort Wilderness? That is my dream stay. Hahahah I am looking forward to those shorts! 😎🌴
@@PidasianHippie We will stay at Fort Wilderness for 2 nights so we can use their transportation and and get to the parks early.
Thank you for explaining to us.

Would AutoZone or O'REILLY be able to test it do you know?
I know O'Reilly Auto Parts does. I assume but not sure of AutoZone
Super interesting.! like!
Thank you
Good DIY starter fix. My brother had the cast iron break off where the bolt screwed in to bolt the
starter on. He had to buy a long block motor just to replace the starter. LOL Not funny.
That's a bummer! Thanks for the visit and comment. Hope you have a Healthy and prosperous New Year.

Getting set up and all a couple of hours.

You're welcome!
What size sockets do I need?
Try 9/16
@@JohnCRV they were actually 13mm and the small nut for the longer wire was 5/16 socket. Great video, I mainly watched just so I would know how to maneuver it in and out of there. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback. Have a Great Day!
