Bought my 2005 Silverado in 2007. 14 years later I just rolled over 211k miles, and she is still kicking it. I've addressed 4 out of the 5 issues you mentioned (never dealt with a knock sensor). Here's a couple more:
    1) Day time running lights
    2) Airbag (impact) sensors behind the bumper
    3) Stepper motors in the dash
    4) Transfer Case encoder motor sensor
    5) Castech heads
Overall this has been a rock solid performing truck. Michigan winters have taken their toll on the body, but that's to be expected. I'll keep her on the road as long as I can. With the limited maintenance I've had to do, this truck doesn't owe me a thing.

I’ve had my ‘03 Silverado now going on 21 years. Just had a recent surprise when I was pulled over for no brake lights. First thing I thought, a fuse. Never had fuse go out on this one. Checked a 10 amp at dash fuse box. Fine. Then tried a different switch at the brake pedal. Nope. Center brake light working. Didn’t know there were two separate fuses for brake lights. The other one I found out about when I Googled. VEH 15 amp was the culprit. As for common problems, haven’t had these 5, but had an early recall when the distributor was getting moisture. An alternator, the pumps, hubs eventually wore out. But went many years w/o anything, so I’m not complaining. The best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

I have a 2006 Silverado 2500HD with 145,000 miles. I have only had the tailgate latch issue and the steering column issue. Each was really easy and cheap to fix. The tail gate latch fix is a $2.00 plastic clip to reconnect the rod(s) to the latch. I solved the steering column issue not be replacing the intermediate shaft, instead by an almost free solution. I used a zip tie between the steering column plastic housing and an adjacent metal structure under the dash to pull the play out of the steering column. This held up for 3-4 years, problem developed again, so I has to put in a new zip tie, problem solved yet again, total cost 5 cents. This has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever had. I have only spent money on things that wear out such as tires, brakes, wipers, shocks, a couple of ball joints, belts, and fluids.

I would add the following items to your list for any truck of that era. 1. Brake lines, they are very prone to rust and your going to have to replace them. 2. 4 Wheel Drive transfer case pump vein leaks. There are some nice kits out there to alleviate this problem. I have a 2005 2500 HD with Duramax and Allison. I have replaced both of these...(and lots of other things too...)

@@trevorjameson3213 The northern states have rust on most vehicles that see winter use. Rockers, cab corners, fenders, door bottoms, wheel well lips, rear bumpers, and even frames rust out up here. The fuel lines and brake lines get destroyed from the salt in the winter weather. I bought a 2002 Avalanche from Florida and had it shipped up here back in 2013 and kept it spotless by avoiding using it in the snow as much as I could. I think the speedometer issue should be on this list too, along with the heated seat elements (if you had the leather interior). Great truck overall. Engine has been SOLID. Oh... the three I've had is the fuel vent canister, knock sensor (I replaced both and the wire harness when one went), and of course the tailgate latches/handle that just failed after 17 years of use. My truck used to be my mining vehicle and has seen many many rugged off road miles over the years and now just pavement and beach sand these days.

Had a 2004 Silverado 1500 for 14 years. Only had few major problems.
For the Front Wheel Bearing, everything I read or watch said 30 minutes to repair. They were partly right. Took about 10-15 minutes to disconnect everything and 15 minutes to reinstall. Took many hours to get it out! Heat and penetrating oil over the day a few times and some 5 pound sledge hammering finally got it out! :)
Replaced the dash instrument cluster, easy fix. In the end, wouldn't pass emissions test. It wouldn't clear two OBD, Cat and Eval. No matter what I did, they wouldn't clear. Wanted a bigger truck so traded it in for a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD WT.

Also an over looked problem: door pins and bushings wearing out and the heavy doors like to sag and hit the rocker as they close. Overall I haven’t had many big issues with my truck, it likes to burn a bit of oil. I use 6qts synthetic and I have a moroso catch can. When I change the oil at 4-5k I get out only 4-5 qts. That’s why I try not to let my oil go much longer than 5k before I change it with a wix filter

Despite all this, after 16 years , I still like this much better than the Dodge it replaced, and the F150 before that(personal preference, only). have changed tons of those knock sensors. up here in northern Alberta, the rear ones rot out, usually because of all the mud and water that gets under the rubber plug. more often than not i have to replace the valley cover also, after that rear sensor breaks off, then you have to pull the cover up over whats left of the sensor. with the seal staying underneath it usually holds all the mud in place, which is a good thing since its open to the cam shaft underneath it. and the rear hole of the cover is so rotted that it can't be reused. then i usually put a bit of silicone around the rubber plugs before i seat them in the holes, the put the little dam of silicone around the holes like GM says.

The things you mention are indeed true and easy fixes. If you live where they use road salt the following things can be a real pain: Rusted out fuel tank and spare tire crossmembers and the frame itself. The spring hangers too. Factory steel brake lines rotting out. A Dorman stainless steel brake kit fixes that problemm. Oil the truck if the frame is in good shape. It will help them last. Oh and don't forget the rotted off engine ground cables at the back of the engine. Cheers

I had a 2003. I had none of those issues. I had problems with dash lights, oil pressure sensor, airbag sensors ,fuel pump which I remedied by putting a Carter fuel pump on and finally intake gasket at about 185000 miles. Overall a very good truck.

I cannot get my check engine light to come on therefor I cannot pass inspections. What do you recommend? I’ve replaced bulbs and it didn’t fix anything.

@@andrewpratt6020 put it on a code reader. You possibly have a computer problem. Try disconnecting the battery and totally discharging to try to reboot the computer.

brake lines have a high failure rate. I had to replace all of mine. Thankfully it ruptured while i was working on the brakes. Pumped the pedal , then nothing. Big puddle of brake fluid on the driveway and a ruptured brake line. Check drivers side next to the frame is the most common area where they rust. 2001, 1500, 5.3, 4WD

You forgot having to take the instrument cluster out in the 2000-2003 year models and send it to ONE GUY IN THE US that knew how to re-solder all the poorly soldered connections that made the cluster look like a Christmas tree.

I’ve read that the oil pressure sender fails a lot too. Easy fix if you happen to own the “special tool” to get the thing off & on.

I have a 2005 C-1500 4.3 V6 , I got one of the few manual transmission models. The clutch pedal assembly is mounted to a plastic firewall that has a plastic keyhole to mount it firmly. Problem is the daily stress of using the clutch ends up breaking the keyhole into a giant gaping jagged broken up opening where the assembly must mount. Man oh man I was pissed. A plastic firewall !!! I used the steel from the bottom of an old strong office chair, along with a carefully measured and cut bicycle handlebar, and a short pipe same diameter as the double curved section of the handlebars I used. Connected to the corner support of the frame left of brake master cyl. to fender support bolted into the office chair bottom replacing keyhole and strapped steel plate mounted across the only steel at top of firewall. Sturdy and firm clutch action. Now I gotta fix the breeze and fumes from getting in. Man I’m starting to hate this thing. Now it’s clogged converters. Damn thing !! I miss my 70 Ford F-100. Not the mileage though. But I’d trade back in a heartbeat if it were possible. Got a 70 Ford F-100 ?

Bought new in 2003, Z71 5.3 11,000+ hours and running strong today. Not a huge problem but stepper motors used in the gauge cluster could be added to the list
