Excellent tutorial on Diagnosis of a starter. Prevention with cleaning and applying Dielectric Grease is highly recommended for longevity of your connection. Some Experts say away from 3rd party reman starters as the quality is questionable. If you can't buy new, buy a reman unit from reputable company.
Great video and information, I've been having a sluggish start for about a year now when the truck is cold. Haven't had trouble not having it start up completely, but it feels that there is a split second where it almost wants to shut back down yet it never does. Definitely does not feel quick and strong though but it's only when cold, usually at the start of the day when the weather is cooler. Didn't go through as many diagnostics as you, but i did take the starter to get tested and also bought a new battery. New battery didn't fix it and started seemed to test fine. I'm guessing it's the starter. No signs of corrosion really. There also is a very tin-like or static/spark like sound when starting the vehicle, never have been able to pin point it, but does seem to come from under the truck and starter area, not engine bay area. Maybe a problem with the starter as well. Best bet is probably just to replace it. Could be the original, which would be about 16 years old.
Nice video. I have been following your videos for many years. I own a 350z as well. I have one or two tips for an easy removal and reinstall. First, no need to remove the tire or jack up the truck. My Z71 is not lifted, and I had plenty of room. The key is to remove the 13mm first, then the 10mm bracket. Removing the sensor will help in taking the starter. Dragging the starter out of the area, rotate it so you can have access to the solenoid and battery bolt. Reverse the steps to reinstall. Is that easy! THE 8MM AND 13MM ARE REMOVE LAST when taking out the starter and first when reinstalling. Now I have a question. Perhaps you can help? I get power to the solenoid from the relay, but the starter does not turn. Is it the remote viper alarm? Please help. Presently I am helping out with the fires and would love to use my truck if I can. Thank you for your time!
I recently replaced my starter in a 2001 Silverado 2500. After the new one was in I went to start and was very sluggish and didn’t start, so tried jumper cables and nothing. Now I have no gauges, fuel pump, and no crank. Any idea what the issue is? I was thinking possible ground?
@@AnthonyJ350 I’m thinking I may have pulled a ground possibly from the pcm while I was changing starter because I did have it kind of hanging to remove the wires off of it?
I don't mean to sound negative, but no one has mentioned that Silverado comes with two different types of starters. To order it in advance, you need to know what type is. Good luck to everyone.

I agree, that's why we picked AC Delco because they're manufactured to GM specifications and have their seal of approval.

Ya I would just put in an AC Delco Profoessional and not have to worry about it
I’ve watched several vids on this. This is the best. Mahalo.
What kind of remote start did you have at the end? Is it also an alarm? Very slick. Mahalo nui.
Oh thank you!
It's a Compustar remote starter and security system.

You have power at the solenoid? If not check the starter relay under the hood.

What's the voltage of the battery?
@ I believe 12.4

@josephhammer4103 I doubt it, but it's possible you have blown fuses
@@AnthonyJ350 yeah I have checked fuses. They could be blown even if they don’t look like it maybe? 🤔
What's I put the new starter in it started up once I put it in gear it diesel 2003 avalanche
Glad to hear the new starter motor, started your vehicle.
I tried changing mine, it wouldn’t go in as easy and the black cover didn’t even come off as shown, help please
Did you purchase AC Delco?

Why are there 2 types? I went into my parts store and they gave me this one.
What are the differences
It doesn't seem as easy as stated lol
It's not that bad. The nice thing is there is a decent amount of room.
Guy talks too much just changed the shyt
You're not smart enough to fast forward the video?
@@AnthonyJ350Let me answer that. That would be a hard NO. Rude asf @carlcraft9237
