In the 90s Subaru solidified its place in motorsports in the world of rally racing. The WRX became a new outlet for young enthusiasts to get into, and from there it didn't stop. Fast forward to 2006/7 where one of the hottest sports cars on the market is the beloved WRX STI, and with a new facelift, it seemed things were only going to get better. A car that came from what now feels like a lifetime ago, we are here to talk about you wanting to own a Hawkeye/Blobeye WRX STI.

My 06 Hawkeye Bellatrix is by far my favorite car I have ever owned, then the day came last year when she lost compression and started to misfire, damn OE trash, Subaru should never use such a fragile motor with a turbo. Putting a IAG stage 2 tuff in her once I can afford it. Replacing everything that’s major because for some reason Subaru really likes to be cheap with OE components they runs in their wrxs. In reality I’m the cause, guess you can’t run a STi turbo, innercooler and injectors without killing a ej257.

@fitmentindustries I have a 2ltr EJ207 2005 JDM Hawkeye, they come stock with equal length headers and still sound subaru, the burble is still there just not as much. Depends on exhaust too

@@javiermarticorena9186 longest trip I've made is 10.5 hours from NC to FL. It's been on multiple 4 hour trips to my parents' house in SC, and even a 6.5 hour trip to Baltimore for a wedding. I change the oil every 4k miles and replace things as they fail. 319k miles as of Monday

Mārtiņš yes its my first car, I have had good luck knock on wood but to be honest man these cars are as reliable as the owner, I bought mine after it was rebuilt and had receipts and everything. Just make sure to research the common issues and once you get one make sure you are on time changing oil and other basic maintainace

Bought my '06 a bit over four years ago with 42k miles, still sitting under 75k miles and still takes off like a rocket. Steel Grey Metallic, silver stock bbs with black cusco/blizzaks for the winter set up. Still love it!

I have a 2007 black STI. Iv had it a whole year this month! Got it with 69k miles and it’s at 72k right now I love this car!
bought a 16’ Sti for the rumble :). And no dont even try to say the Fa20 could sound like that too with unequal length headers, because it does not.

I will never forget the first time i heard a built a wrx....2003 at a famous shop here in Missouri.....i had tears of joy and was scared at the same time...that day i learned what a 4cyl japanese car was capable of and i haven't looked back.
i just got n 05 saabaru 5 months ago. im in love with the car and its a design all its own.
This video makes me miss me 07 HAWKEYE STI even more than i already do😔 but on a good note i still love my 2013 STI!😊
On the topic of subaru guys being know it alls, the engine that was broken down into components was an FA motor not an EJ which comes in the GD chassis. The most obvious give away is the timing chain and metal cover. The gaskets for the valve covers and cam gears are different too.
Main obvious part as well are the connecting rods.. EJ will not be at an angle like that.

Tomorrow I'm buying a 1995 GM8 (coupe version of the GC8) with a full 2006 sti swap, engine, transmission, drivetrain and interior. Clean title and AC. Fully built forged internals EJ20 400whp on 93 pump gas and 2500 miles on built, 108k on body. Ready to go on E. I'm very exited, this will be my first subaru
Uptade: I got the car and It actually has 3 maps the highest been 700whp on E85... all the paperwork showing over 40k into this car.

@@ruskibruski my sti pushes 20 psi with stock block and turbo. I have equal length headers, up pipe, turbo back, 38 mm ewg, injectors and boost controller. Around 4500 in parts.
On just e85 a sti will run elevens in the quarter mile. Only mods needed is $100 fuel pump, $500 injectors and a $500 tune. The 07 sti transmission will do this in 4 gears and 04 to 06 sti are slightly slower as you need gear 5 to finish quarter
buddy in houston has a white one(hawkeye) built engine on bags he selling for 10k. 60k miles on car like 20k on engine

Took me 3 years, 5 states and many trips with an empty trailer to get a Hawkeye STI again. Nothing like the experience of owning and driving an 06/07 STI.... words of wisdom. Just take your time... don’t pay $22k for one with low compression, modded to hell and 200,000 miles.
paid 14500 for a lightly modded 05 blob eye STi with 157k miles. These have gone up crazy in price

Tbh, it took a while for me to warm up to it, but I grew to love the look. The midnight blue (basically black) helps make it look just a little more aggressive. In my opinion, the US kind of missed out on this one.

Only gripe with subies are the motors take a lot more money to build power compared to its competition and you have to build the motor just for a safe 400+ 😒

My uncle own a hawkeye STi fully equipped with the iconic Subaru rally livery. It's a great car though. He also own a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution _VIII_ and he still own both till today.

My thoughts on the STI: the only way I've seen it done right is Hondaru from Boostedboiz Emilio.
That being said the Subaru boxer engine is the best sounding turbo four I agree.

I'm 40ish and dream of a blob eye STi wagon. I say dream, cause even if I had the money, its impossible to get one that's still factory stock unmolested
S204, 2.0L Blitzen H6, Type R, STI not the Honda, in case some newbies here, just a few is all I am gonna say, GC8 (2 door)known as slant eye, or original eye as I like to call it, is always will be my fav, manily cause ai owned more of this gen than any others and CM was is still my hero and racing among the stars with the also great and most loyal Subaru man after man, Possum! the Hawkeye is my 2nd fav and either will ever be sold or for sale by me, which I will buried in is still to be debated unless I die in one while driving, worse ways to go as long as no one else is involved. It’s in my will. I used to hate the Bug eye when it first came out, ai can clearly remember this as I was paying off my 96 STi off and a buddy bought around unbeknown to me his brand new Bug Eye STI, he setup for a ride and when we went down through the bottom floor garage and opened up the garage door and I saw those headlights (he also had or did have a GC8 STI) I said WTF is that ugly POS doing in my driveway and where is your GC8, I couldn’t believe he traded in his GC for that Bug, even for an STI and it was in WRB with gold BBS it looked as plain and plain even the girl next door in baggy sweat pants looked better, we went for a drive, honestly I can’t remember it, clearly was so memorable, I never got over his betrayal though he did sell it and went back to a GC later on, to be fair with aftermarket parts esp WRC headlights it can really change that look , the Type R specc C (#4) was special, it’s one of my favs now still rank it after the Blob eye though (#3) Stink eye is my lest fav the hatch, just too much Mazda in that car for me, I’ll get one to complete the collection and change the stock looks to WRC look, that’s my plan, but the HE and JDM 2.0 we didn’t get the 2.5 here is the bomb, you are wright about maintenance, but I never understand people who can’t do basic maintenance it’s a performance car, even a std car should be maintained to manufactures specifications and when continually here the crap here and by some others honestly it says more about the owners than the car, they shouldn’t be near performance of anything, but you can’t regulate against stupid, anything 15 years or older is gonna be susceptible to gaskets age and how the car has been looked after, gaskets seals just don’t last forever, some are better than others, I just did a seal on my oil cooler the other day, it’s been good for 250,000 km and 14years, on 300whp 6cly, I mean seriously if you are not happy with that, get a train pass or bus pass. Good video though lest you know your Subies, some just hate flor the sake of it, it’s like click bait.

Note: You guys as many US channels do only seem to speak as if US is the only country in the world, your subscriber base is world wide I am sure even though majority is US.
The Hawkeye just for some reference also had influence from Yamaha, (not unique to just Toyota or Nissan, famous for the Supra Collaboration)
Porsche have also had collaboration with Subaru on the Blitzen model only 200 produced in the last gen (German for lightening) models in the 3rd/5th gen Legacies!
Peter Stevens had influence in earlier gen WRX STIs as well, namely the 22b (Unicorn)

One not mention is the RB 320, 320hp collaboration with Pro Drive again and the RB stands for Richard Burns, who passed away the year before in 2005, the RB was a 2006 edition UK only, 300 ltd and numbered. 🤙 There was also an earlier model for Richard Burns the RB5 444 made in 1999.

My Dad had a hawkeye and it was a dream of mine to own one as well. Living in NJ with no garage I was afraid of it being stolen so I settled for a IS300. One day ill have a Hawkeye!

PS you'll have more fun in a beat up subaru off road (rally) than the nicest example of a clean STI you can find so if you are actually into driving just grab any manual subaru and have fun

Just found a 2014 Hatch with 93k miles…. I’m tempted as hell rn, just lost my 2017 WRX.
05 Sti w APS cai, Cobb downpipe, and Tanabe Racing Medallion exhaust. I used the stage 2 tune from the Accessport and Walbro 255 so I wouldn't have fuel cut. It sounded soooooo good. The intake opened up the turbo noise and diverter valve and the exhaust sounded so mean. I had alot of fun in that car and miss it.
