Agree... 04-07 is the best, and probably a very wise car to invest in as a garage queen. But the 06 is the king of the 04-07, IMO. The 06 STi Impreza (there were no WRX STi badged cars in 06, only STi Impreza was badged on the trunk and window stickers this year for some reason dropping the WRX part, who know why?) just had nicer tail lights then the 07. As I don't like the chrome Altezza look the STi and WRX models both came with in 07. The 06 STI had the same tail lights, design wise over all, but the inside was a gun metal dark grey instead of chrome. The 06 WRX had the chrome lights out back also like the 07s did, so I assume only the STi got these that year. The blob eye 04-05, was also almost as good looking to me. (I love the 02-03 STi looks, lucky guys in Japan) I guess it is a personal preference type deal as to which you like. But it is obvious that after 07 Subaru started cutting costs to keep the MSRP low, the cars were still sweet but are missing something that feels like a big elephant in the room that you just can't find. (Do they even still have BBS wheels, Brembo brakes, and MOMO interiors factory standard?) They turned into road cars, not rally cars like they should be. Then you drive a GC/GD STI and you know really quick what it is. Just overall feel and handling of the old lighter car is easily apparent. I really hope the all new 2022 STI lives up to the hype. With the new 2.4 FA STI block, That supposedly has forged rods and pistons installed factory, it should be a great 400 hp area blast. Finally allowing the STI to hit 60 mph in under 4.8 like the old 04-07 used to be capable of.
@@user-ie2dg3vq7q not really, imo, had a my97 wrx sti and it did perform better in my opinion then my blob now, much more feel to what the car is doing, the acceleration was a bit better, and the handling was more responsive and direkt. The blob is more understeering than the Gc8. And an almost 150kg weight difference. The blob still is a great car, but performance wise my Gc8 had just that little bit more of a bang. Lol
@@alexbtl1315 The GD STIs are definitely better. Much better engine all around, and a better chassis, quicker track times. Weight does not mean everything in most types of racing, and we are only talking the base model STI, no special editions. Subaru definitely knew what they were doing developing the GD series for performance, it went down hill in the GR and VA series due to safety control and extreme weight gains with no substantial improvements over the GD.
Still remember the day I pick up my 13’ hatch, was aiming for a Hawkeye sti at the beginning, but that car got picked up by a guy with a bag of cash right at the same day I see the car, so got a hatch instead. At the beginning I don’t really like it as much as GD one( cuz it looks not as cool as GD imo), but with 5 months ownership till now, have to say I would never sell this bad boy, just such a good old-fashioned turbo car to drive
Eyyy, the subie car meet clip is from Subaru Club Philippines! Always love the Hawk, and the GD chassis is the ultimate one, Hawk followed by blob. Then the GC and the new one. Didn't particularly like the hatches though.
I find it funny they used a GTA pic for the importing and Forza for the year pics. As a proud owner of a Hawkeye(sadly a 2.5i but plan on sti swapping some stuff) I still think it's the best. Also as I've had the car, I've come to love the bugeye look with the amount of hate that it gets, but wouldn't change my choice.. You should do what the best generation of Evo is.
My mum drives a Limited Edition Impreza WRX STI GC8 (I think?) from the year 2000. I have always loved the car but never, ever see any like it online or on the streets - probably because there was only 400 of them made I believe (automatic). I was wondering if anybody has an idea of what exactly I'm talking about, if they could direct me somewhere or inform me on the car because I want to learn more about it as it has been an integral part of my childhood.
I believe you came to the correct conclusion. Not to say other Stis aren't great. If the GD had the rear suspension of the newer models it would be my perfect car.
Love my 2019 wrx and I’d rather drive that with the better technology and reliability. But the OG one is just absolutely amazing, you don’t have to do anything really to them and they’re just appealing. The new ones I feel like you gotta do stuff to it in order to be really unique or be a head turner
I feel you. I’ve got an 18 rex and you definitely don’t buy these without modding intentions... at least not me anyways, I knew I’d have to do a bunch of things to make it mine.
I remember I was about to buy a 2019 and the day I went in to sign I saw a 14 hatchback the last year they made a wrx hatch so I told the guy I wanted that one he wasn’t happy but sure as hell was.
Every video like this always skips the blob eye, thanks for not :D. It is defs my favorite and I owned a base model one for a while and have just upgraded to a 2021 sti

Finally allowing the STI to hit 60 mph in under 4.8 like the old 04-07 used to be capable of.
my bro got the blobeye and i liked it alot but when i saw the hawkeye come out it was love at first sight and thats what I drive today !!
Only the ones available in the US? You're missing the best one.
The GD STI was a far improvement over the GC performance wise, so not really.
My 2014 sti hatch is the best match for me. Every year they don’t make another hatch, mine goes up in value can’t complain!!!
i would say the first gen subies like 23gc and 22b
I had a buddy in high school that had a bug-eye STI so I'm a bit partial to those, but also really like the hawk-eye's.
My favorites are mean eye, bugeye, and blobeye, and my guess is that blobeye will win just because it’s so iconic
I own a 2003 bugeye and it's been the best car I've ever owned.
Bugeye is my favorite
Still could have put a pick or video of the GC chassis, gave it a good mention since it's the original one
Gc8 is my favourite but I wanna own the hatchback
tip if you want a 06 or 07 wrx wagon look up saab 92x aero (turbo model) rebadged wrx wagon i have one just like the wagon
Eyyy, the subie car meet clip is from Subaru Club Philippines! Always love the Hawk, and the GD chassis is the ultimate one, Hawk followed by blob. Then the GC and the new one. Didn't particularly like the hatches though.
I've always loved the meaneye, bugeye, and blobeye but the meaneye is definitely my favorite and I would fs own one.
I’ve always loved the blob eyes ❤️
Not the latest gen. Period
Honestly Stink Eye is my favorite
My mum drives a Limited Edition Impreza WRX STI GC8 (I think?) from the year 2000. I have always loved the car but never, ever see any like it online or on the streets - probably because there was only 400 of them made I believe (automatic). I was wondering if anybody has an idea of what exactly I'm talking about, if they could direct me somewhere or inform me on the car because I want to learn more about it as it has been an integral part of my childhood.
I have a 2019 STi and it's a joy to drive.
Man thanks for featuring my video of the subi (IX) fiji rep ) ..appreciate it ..love from fiji
I believe you came to the correct conclusion. Not to say other Stis aren't great. If the GD had the rear suspension of the newer models it would be my perfect car.
Nailed it. Hawkeye is the #1
Definitely the Blob-eye is the OG. I had one but sold it and kick myself everyday for it
6:59 "And we move on the year 2015" then shows previous gen. Yes, I agree 2010-2014 was more attractive than the Subaru Corolla STI lol
@@deej628 yup, and for me personally I feel like I gotta do something different so it doesn’t look like every other 2015+ wrx out there
You kinda forgot the Type RA variant and s209. I know they are still a 15+ Sti but they had more then just drivetrain upgrades.
I remember I was about to buy a 2019 and the day I went in to sign I saw a 14 hatchback the last year they made a wrx hatch so I told the guy I wanted that one he wasn’t happy but sure as hell was.
Hawkeye is the best eye. Periottt.
Every video like this always skips the blob eye, thanks for not :D. It is defs my favorite and I owned a base model one for a while and have just upgraded to a 2021 sti
I bought a 22B when I was overseas in Germany sadly I cant imported it yet until 2023 when I go back to Germany for another tour.
I have a 2020 STI so I’m biased but I love the Hawkeye and the jdm bugeye STI
Bout buy a Hawkeye near me. But I need suggestions on wheeler I can buy parts wheels kits etc
I'll tell u the best subie of all time .It's that 1 with the 4 wheels and goes brrrr brrr.
My personal opinion all of gd chassis is the "best STIs", but va chassis has brought a whole new level to family sedan sports car
They are all cool but the 04 Peter Stevens design kicks ass!
I love my 21 Sti the only thing i wish it had was pumped out guards like my 2012 wrx.
When you guys mention how the cars look when coming out of the factory, do you think you can show some stock cars and not heavly modified ones?? I love the videos btw.
This makes me miss my '13 Subie Hatchback :'( .. But yeah I could vouch for blobeye/hawkeye being the best.. Good vid, need more like these, like maybe the Z's next! :D
BugEye Impreza is legendary!!!
My name says it all! S202 was most brutal factory wrx sti
