Fords are not cheaper to build up front but in the long run they are, you will rebuild a Chevy race motor 2 1/2 times to 0ne on the ford.... I know I've been in it for years?
I was lucky enough to meet Jon when he was working for Dyno Don the year he won the Pro-Stock Championship. a mutual friend of Dyno and my Dad had brought Dyno to my dad's shop in the home garage. He was looking for someone who could make a stud girdle for one of his 500 CI Can-Am match race motors. So as 14 YO kid I was crossing the driveway and my Dad called out to me to come in, My dad was there talking to his friend Dink and another gentleman . My Dad asked if I knew who he was I said no and said this is Dyno Don Nicholson. Now I knew the name as I read Hot Rod faithfully every month . The problem was you almost b=never saw his face as he was always leaning over a engine. My dad wound up machining the girdle from a billet of Aluminum that Dyno shipped up. When it was done he asked my dad how much , my Dad said he just wanted the challenge of seeing if he could do it. Mind you this was 1976 or 77 and he was using all manual machines just a bridegport and lathe. So Dyno asked us to be his guests at the Summer nationals in Englishtown NJ . That is where I met Jon who , it was just He and Don with some help from Dink that did all the work on the car between rounds . There were no big crews back then , No huge haulers just a truck and trailer .
I ran n2 a guy here where I live that had a set of those p51s on a 429 cobra jet 70 Torino and I'd just watched this and I seen them and well I had a wonderful conversation with the owner about this guy and his heads and he told me that no one has ever known what the heads were and where they came from wow I feel privileged
I heard about the SR-71 heads on "Stacey David's GearZ TV". Stacey David also used the " BOSS 9" engine in his "V8 interceptor" project, A 1967 Mercury cougar!
I dont know what's more amazing...the fact that these guys can build a 1100hp NA carburated big block Ford that can be driven daily, or a 600hp NA k-series that runs 8s in a fwd chassis. 🤷♂️🤯🤯
The fact IS we guys in USA in all the planet, Only in USA, are WAAYYY blessed to be able to have this type of machinery and wisdom available to us like he has done. Being I’m a Pontiac fan and Ford second choice, this is really well thought out creation. Impressive from the collective research on all aspects to the machining design that looks quite sensible in any future service. And I Still wish that GM would have put the distributor in the Front of the engine like Ford did, where we spend fair amount of time tinkering on. Anyway I’m definitely impressed with their entire setups and accomplishments.
Great to see the Ford with non ported heads with smaller displacement do the job. No porting no Jesel or T&D rockers no stud girdle. (NICE) Great job thank you.
@@luther250F The point being that ported as cast is going to flow and perform like a ported head and probably won’t benefit much if any from further porting.

Hey, love the video and content, also love the fact that Jon and his crew have been successful competitors in engine building competition for years as well as the fact that he was under the tutelage of one of the masters himself Dyno Don. Magnificent work ethic and products from his team and company express the end product of dedication and determination from all parties from a top down approach starting with Jon himself, as for Pat and his conclusive comparison of the Ford barely edging out the Chevy, I think that he needs to get a new calculator and have it calibrated to real world standards, in other words when your beat by a really good margin your beat hands down!!!!!!!!!
Jon Kasse knows Fords . Awesome Engine Builder. Would love ❤️ a 598 or 632 Ford all Aluminium Block & Heads. I would go 4 his Boss Head . One of the things I really like about shows like this, was the offhand remark, that this was an SVO block, which begs the question: what is the difference between an SVO block and a normal OEM block? Question 2: how far can (or should) you take an OEM block before an SVO block is the better choice? Thanks for the input!
Bro u can't see the difference from a factory block to a after market one. 4 bolt mains. Alot thicker everywhere. More meat in the cylinder bored. It's hell of a lot stronger everywhere.
Besides strength improvements from the aftermarket blocks, the SVO provides a larger bore diameter allowing the bore and stroke combo to reach the displacement that the factory block is not able to reach.

Barely edge out the Chevy? It pistol whipped it with 34 less ci.
And way less compression.
GM will have to ask for more yearly corporate welfare money to beat this one. 👍
and only cost 4-5 times as much!!!

John kasse love you man you are my engine hero. Ever since I saw you at a engine shoot out and one of my friends met you he bought some engines from you I have a deep appreciation and respect for you my dad and I raced when back in the day before street racing and liquor hauling was illegal so I know a few things about engines being a Georgia boy myself. I have a good friend Tony. That has one of your motors recently built for his drag car. And he cant do any thing but brag about how good it is.. seems like i herd him say he problems getting it put together. I cant honestly recall what he said. Except that he called the shop .and the guys there were very helpfull.and got him going in the right direction .what ever it was .he bragged on johns shop at help full they were. No matter how many hours of work he puts in .I bet he tell ya he never worked a hard day doing it . Would love to hang around and pick his brain for knowledge. Great job, and lots of fun watching the team kick butt. God Bless.
Kasse heads for $ (2995) vs afr 385 heads $ (3895), no one should say Chevy is cheaper again.
Ford is cheaper and makes more power period.
😂😂😂 chevy parts on a ford block😱😱😱
@@mrhombregordo9556 lol those rods aren't really chevy either, the numbers just match up.
Fords are not cheaper to build up front but in the long run they are, you will rebuild a Chevy race motor 2 1/2 times to 0ne on the ford.... I know I've been in it for years?
@Dave Stephens its an aftermarket block.
I like the fact that the owner and the operations manager are out there getting their hands dirty. Small business at its best.
One of the coolest videos I've seen in a long time
There was a lot of great info in this video if you pay close attention. Jon is a great engine guru and awesome to talk to. Keep building them.
"we don't care as much about the airflow as we do about what that needle says on the dyno" true that.
SO awesome. I bet that was fun making this video.
I heard about the SR-71 heads on "Stacey David's GearZ TV". Stacey David also used the " BOSS 9" engine in his "V8 interceptor" project, A 1967 Mercury cougar!
The 427 cammer is a jewel !
That 632 doesn't want any of that Ford Motor. Kaase will take Chevrolet to school.
His heads are untouchable.
Dave Stephens lol Kaase heads > afr
@Dave Stephens the Chevy had AFR heads @14:38
If they had put sr20 heads on the chevy it would smoke that ford. And the ford heads are not stock. They are custom heads.
The Ford isn't using hi port exhaust like the TFS. It fits in old mustangs and trucks with off the shelf headers. It's not race stuff guys.

Tom, the head they used comes with full race ports as cast.

Loved the episode, Down here in Australia we simply do not have many of these sort of guys with all of that experience and knowledge.
Yeah we do and they all Chevy guys who think they know how to make horse power !
"It will flow better, and it will make less power."
That's the stuff you cant learn from print, just experience

"The dyno proves it". Where to go from here? Analyze the flow inside the bowl? "Don't mess with it".

Would love ❤️ a 598 or 632 Ford all Aluminium Block & Heads.
I would go 4 his Boss Head .
Super mini tunnel ram manifold with a Whipple Cupronickel Intercooler and 8.3 ltr Supercharger with a efi injection hat .
Use , a 21ft Daytona Jet Boat .
2 Tunes . One at 1250 hp & the other 1500/1600 hp .
Awesome 👌
Its interesting that the chevy guy says, " barely edged out " his chevy, but the ford made 100 foot pounds of torque more. and 100 horsepower more.
100% Ford man here.
Ford all day!
Imagine having a smaller engine making more power because it’s a ford
Ford in every shot out all parts being the same make more power per cubic inch than Chevy or mopar. Big block or small block
And this matters why? All I care about is whats on the dyno sheet.

Finally a real engine builder!! Building a P38 427. 10:1 compression should make 700hp n'a. 1000hp with 250 shot.!!

One of the things I really like about shows like this, was the offhand remark, that this was an SVO block, which begs the question: what is the difference between an SVO block and a normal OEM block?
Question 2: how far can (or should) you take an OEM
block before an SVO block is the better choice?
Thanks for the input!
Bro u can't see the difference from a factory block to a after market one. 4 bolt mains. Alot thicker everywhere. More meat in the cylinder bored. It's hell of a lot stronger everywhere.
Besides strength improvements from the aftermarket blocks, the SVO provides a larger bore diameter allowing the bore and stroke combo to reach the displacement that the factory block is not able to reach.
