Like most english dubs it's jarring at first, but once the voice actor gets more familiar with the role and fans get more accustomed to the new voice everything will be fine.
Thank you, I wish more people understood this. They're so quick to jump on the hate wagon without barely giving the new voices a chance. I marathoned the first half of season one and these voices are much easier on the ears to listen to for an extended period of time. And yes you DO get used to them and they grow more comfortable with their roles as it goes along. I do sort of wish Viz didn't choose a character's very first episode for our first listen to the new VA, because it's always rough. But on the upside, it can only get better from here!

Long regrets Sorry for the delayed response, but I need to point something out. Yes, the best dubs DO "fit like a glove", but it's not quite that simple. Hellsing Ultimate, GiTS:SAC, and FMA:B were continuations of existing franchises. Crew and VA's in those already got over the early rough patches. Wolf's Rain's dub is a direct successor to Cowboy Bebop's - same director and some of the same VA's. FLCL's dub had Bebop's scriptwriter. Champloo also had a number of Bebop & WR alums on the acting side. Trigun's dub was made at the same time & same studio as Bebop's, and they share some crew (but Trigun has never been my favorite dub, and I don't think it's held up as well as the others). One of the things important to making a great dub is a good script. Baccano, YYH, and Black Lagoon's dubs are only as good as they are because the scriptwriters were allowed to take a few liberties. That doesn't really happen much anymore, for several reasons - less money to hire good ADR writers and less time for the writers they do get to tweak the scripts. Also, there is a *_loud_* contingent of fans who demand as little variation from the subtitles as possible and go berserk if the dialogue is too "loose" (IMHO, keeping the spirit of a line is more important than keeping the line itself if both can't be done). Companies are forced to cater to them partly for PR, but also because it's cheaper that way. Also keep in mind, _and this is the important bit_, almost all the shows you mentioned are intended for teens and young adults, so the writing is at a higher level. SM is a children's show. It is written for late-elementary and junior high girls; it has its share of cliches. Also, all but three of the shows on your list are one season or less (GITS is 2, FMA:B is 2½, YYH is 4). Shorter shows often had more care put into them on the front end because there's no room to recover if it's rough. YYH is the only one that has a length anything like SM's, and it started pretty rough too. Also-also, the Japanese are micromanaging SM, so there's not a lot of opportunity for the Studiopolis cast and crew to be creative.
BREATHES A SIGH OF RELIEF I was so worried I was gonna hate this voice, because old dub Jupiter was actually fantastic and there's something unique about her voice, but this voice actually sounds pretty darn good and I can't wait to hear more! I'm quite happy with it, much happier than I am with Mars or Usagi.
I think Amanda Miller does the best with the actual Senshi stuff, like the attacks and transformation calls. I can't wait to see the episode with her and Usagi going after Motoki because that's the one that Amanda has said is when she really starts to feel comfortable with the character. I think she's got the potential to be as good as Susan Roman (who was one of the best original dub voice actors, in my opinion).
So Amanda is using her Sully voice for Jupiter. I wonder why they didn't also cast her as Shingo, since Amanda also voiced Takeru Aizawa, a boy character, in Squid Girl. P.S. I can't wait to hear Cherami Leigh's voice for Sailor Venus!

This is taking from being around a ADR Director for Fairy Tail in a live show interview on a Podcast, you learn about stuff. Plus, when I heard his voice, I thought" 'Obnoxious, thinks he's better than her, rude which is the same thing, yeah fits him to a T" Plus, this was the voice Naoko-sensei allowed, we have to ask her why

I think in a later release (Maybe in both parts of Sailor Stars), Viz and Studiopolis should do a gag/blooper reel of the voice actors flubbing their lines (consisting of bloopers from all 5 seasons and the 3 movies).
Overall this clip was dubbed very well, I give it a 9 out of 10. Great job. But as a superfan who enjoys nitpicking tiny details, I'll just mention them... - Luna's voice acting is not intense enough for this scene - Decent translation of Jupiter's speech... but I always loved "bring down the lightning" at the end, and they changed it to thunder. - The tone of voice and the echo-like effect for the speech was replicated PERFECTLY, very cool to see that - I loved Makoto's reaction in the original to seeing that she could control lightning. "All right! One more time?" She was excited about it and wanted to do it again, and was asking if it was OK to do so. The dub misses that little nuance... but you can't expect a dub to do everything with pure perfection.

FINALLY! In this re-dub, I have been waiting for the new voice actors to bring it when doing their transformation or attack calls. Jupiter's new VA is the only one who seems to get it so far! Got goose bumps for both the transformation and attack. Say what you will about the DIC dub, but IMO, all the old VAs were much better at the battle calls, in terms of intensity, passion, and sounding interesting and different.
Sailor Jupiter is by far my favorite dub voice! I am so used to the Japanese version that it's hard to watch the new dub, but I absolutely love Jupiter's voice so yay! Finally one that I like!! :)

IMO of all the DiC voices, Jupiter was the best. I think she was 1 of 3 characters to keep the same voice actor for the first four seasons that were released here (Luna and Artemis being the other 2). With that being said, I do like the new voice. I'll get use to it as time goes on.
Agreed. Now if only Toei Animation could get the rights to Rosario Vampire so it can have a reboot that is closer to the manga just like Sailor Moon Crystal.
I just can't wait for Stars to be dubbed. Given that we have nothing to compare it to, I hope that the voice actors really get into their roles and really reflect the Japanese dub. I guess we will see how they progress when we start getting to the later seasons like S, and SS.
I grew up with the latin dub of the show, all the inner's names where the same as in the english dub, the outer's names however were the original japanese names; and the music was the original japanese music, so whenever I think of the transformations, this music pops in my head :D
Wait so Luna called her Mako...but Usagi called her Mako-chan? I might need to rewatch this scene in Japanese again, I can't remember if Luna actually left off the 'chan' or not. Either way I'm digging this Jupiter! She sounds like she's holding back at times and maybe not quite matching the lip-flaps, but that "bring down the thunder!" bit got me pretty darn hyped!

I have grown used to the new dub within two days of owning the new DVD set. I hated it and cringed so hard when I watched the first episode, but it's grown in my heart. I still love the old voices, but I do love the new ones as well.
This new dub is quite masterful as it follows the original's translation much more crisply. However, I must cite that the old 90s dub that many of us grew up with did make an effort to be more amusing than expected. Sure, it wrote around the original's dialogue by adding new lines where there weren't any before and tried to avoid "being Japanese" like many dubbed anime did at the time, but there was some genuinely funny and amusing lines in the old dub. Like when Usagi had that daydream about Tuxedo Mask in the Midnight Zero radio station episode: the way Usagi whooped and cheered in the old dub was quite hilarious. The old dub may not be entirely accurate to translation (in only a few spots it was), but even us Moonies from the old days can admit that it was good for its time. I still pop in my old recorded-from-TV episodes and bask in the comedy of the first dub.
Like I said, I don't care about the new voices give credit to Viz Media for doing this. Yes, it ain't the same without the old voice actors but its a new generations and its time to move on. Give these voices actors a chance to do this very moment. By the way, Sailor Jupiter is always my favorite Sailor Guardian. God I love her so much
LMAO, I remember watching this clip at NY Comic Con. At the very end, right before Sailor Moon was about to shout 'Moon Healing Escalation', the clip cut off and everyone in the audience became disappointed(in a good way) xD Such teases. ^_^

Wow..Jupiter sounds like what tomboy sounds like through I did liked her original voice but this one is better in my opinion god I want to hear minakos voice blushes red..

IMO of all the DiC voices, Jupiter was the best. I think she was 1 of 3 characters to keep the same voice actor for the first four seasons that were released here (Luna and Artemis being the other 2). With that being said, I do like the new voice. I'll get use to it as time goes on.

I just can't wait for Stars to be dubbed. Given that we have nothing to compare it to, I hope that the voice actors really get into their roles and really reflect the Japanese dub. I guess we will see how they progress when we start getting to the later seasons like S, and SS.

I grew up with the latin dub of the show, all the inner's names where the same as in the english dub, the outer's names however were the original japanese names; and the music was the original japanese music, so whenever I think of the transformations, this music pops in my head :D

Wait so Luna called her Mako...but Usagi called her Mako-chan? I might need to rewatch this scene in Japanese again, I can't remember if Luna actually left off the 'chan' or not.
Either way I'm digging this Jupiter! She sounds like she's holding back at times and maybe not quite matching the lip-flaps, but that "bring down the thunder!" bit got me pretty darn hyped!

I have grown used to the new dub within two days of owning the new DVD set. I hated it and cringed so hard when I watched the first episode, but it's grown in my heart. I still love the old voices, but I do love the new ones as well.

This new dub is quite masterful as it follows the original's translation much more crisply. However, I must cite that the old 90s dub that many of us grew up with did make an effort to be more amusing than expected. Sure, it wrote around the original's dialogue by adding new lines where there weren't any before and tried to avoid "being Japanese" like many dubbed anime did at the time, but there was some genuinely funny and amusing lines in the old dub. Like when Usagi had that daydream about Tuxedo Mask in the Midnight Zero radio station episode: the way Usagi whooped and cheered in the old dub was quite hilarious.
The old dub may not be entirely accurate to translation (in only a few spots it was), but even us Moonies from the old days can admit that it was good for its time. I still pop in my old recorded-from-TV episodes and bask in the comedy of the first dub.
Like I said, I don't care about the new voices give credit to Viz Media for doing this. Yes, it ain't the same without the old voice actors but its a new generations and its time to move on.
Give these voices actors a chance to do this very moment. By the way, Sailor Jupiter is always my favorite Sailor Guardian. God I love her so much
