Hearing all of the complaints is really annoying. THIS is how Sailor Moon should have been all along! It stays true to itself and doesn't make any changes!
People are allowed to have different thoughts on this. The original dic came out first and to me it was fine. If you like the new dub fine. I personally think the new dub is flat and boring but that's ok to not agree.

I can't help at times but to just randomly quote a SMA joke while watching Sailor Moon.
If this were a perfect world, Viz would have watched SMA and found a way to put Corinne and Kris into the dub (admittedly impossible in the real world, since neither of them live in LA).

After seeing Sailor Moon Crystal ep 1 I'm actually really impressed with the animation of the old 90's show. Somehow everything is way more expressive, the backgrounds even look more detailed.
They FINALLY SAYING "Make UP!" OMG!, never knew why they cut it off in the old dubs. Also Usagi's voice is AMAZING!!

I like how the people complaining about Luna's voice have probably never read the manga and only watched the original series..Luna's voice was horrible in the original dub. Picturing a old british granny with Luna's human form is just awful. I really appreciate this new voice.
They've probably never watched it in Japanese either. Michelle's voice compares to Luna's seiyuu very well.

NinjaGirlSakura1 i agree, i love the English Dub of Naruto it really has come a long way ever since it first aired on Toonami in 2005, i also love Naruo's Catchphrase the one i'm talking about is the "Ya Know!" one not the "Believe It!" one, also the English Dub of Death Note is pretty good too.
JapaneseMusicCenter I like the Naruto dub, too, despite the hate, and negativity it has from some fans out there. It's one of those dubs that doesn't start off the best, but gets better as it goes on. And personally, I was okay with "Believe it". Viz only used that at first just to have something to fill in the lip syncing of Dattebeyo, which was not very easy to translate. And after "believe it" fell out of use, Naruto never really had a catch phrase afterwards.
And for the people complaining about Michelle Ruff, I think she's a great fit for this character. Of course, I didn't grow up watching Sailor Moon, but based on this clip, the franchise is in real good hands.

***** don't get me wrong because i have nothing against "Believe It!" while i don't love "Believe It!" i do like it, it's just that i prefer "Ya Know!" over "Believe It!" because i think "Ya Know!" sounds way better and also i already know about all of that information about "Believe It!", also "Ya Know!" became Naruto's as well as Kushina's Catchphrase in the English Version of the Series when it reached the Jinchuriki Training Arc because Naruto's Catchphrase was an Important Plot Point, also i think it would be awesome if Naruto's English Voice Actor said "Believe It? i don't Believe It one bit Ya Know!" i wish that would happen, also i agree with what you said about English Dub of Naruto in Fact i would even say that you hit the nail right on the head, i also agree with you about the New English Dub of Sailor Moon i never really grew up with Sailor Moon either but i'm still looking forward to this.
Having Rukia's voice actress as Luna really made me realize how much the first episode of Bleach is like the first episode of Sailor Moon: some monster/hollow is attacking Serena's/Usagi's/Ichigo's friend/family so Luna/Rukia shows up and gives her/him the ability to transform into a Sailor Scout/Guardian/Soul Reaper/Shinigami. At least it didn't take 6 years to kill Queen Beryl...

I never liked the "old lady with a British accent" voice. Michelle Ruff actually was a good choice for this dub.
I always watched the Japanese version and Luna's voice sounds pretty good in this version. But it is missing something. What ever. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I know ppl are going to explode on Michelle Ruff cause she acts like Rukia, but ease off. She's as close to the original Keiko Han Luna, and it's just right for the role.

I find it really annoying how there was a HUUUGEEE want of a new moon dub and then when we get it, 'EW IT'S NOT DIC GO AWAY'. Just, this damn community is ridiculously not thankful for anything.
Personally, I find the voices are really damn good so far. FARR better than the original for the most part. (Tracy Moore was perfect as well for the first season for awhile and Stephanie Sheh is god damn near perfection as well). I do find Luna a bit jarring as I was used to DiC's, but I actually REALLY like it.
its an improvement also luna's voice was spouse to sound young not like some old British lady but this one will take a bit to get use to since it kinda sounds a little weird to me
ikr where did all the love for the Dic dub come from? Once I got all the licensed episodes in Japanese I never even watch the old dub. Grated it's not the old cast that were bad (they were actually pretty good), it was more DiCs decisions to change the names, leave out episodes, and edit the crap out of the series that make me stick to sub. While Cloverway wasn't as bad they still decided to do the whole "cousins" thing with Harkua and Michiru, bleh.

PokéCenter a possible reason is to be able to fit the mouth flaps accordingly. Like, if they translate a phrase, but can't word it in a way that fits the mouth flaps, they may need to improvise on the phrase.

If that's the case they should edit mouth flaps to match, like the guys from Team Four Star do for their Dragonball parody. I suppose that maybe that wouldn't fit with the "no editing" the new dub is going for, but I don't think people would complain as much about small mouth-flap changes if everything else were left alone.
Ok I need to make something clear here with those saying they want the old voice cast back. THEY ARE RETIRED FROM VOICE ACTING. And even if they weren't I doubt they'd come back to their roles after all the bad feedback and bashing the first dub got back when it was out. Heck even Toei thought that dub was so bad that they refused to give out the rights to Stars and is why it's taken this long to get the series back in the US.
Actually that's not all true. Yes the original wasn't given rights to the final season because of Toei however Terri Hawkes who left due to being pregnant and a few others of the original cast had expressed interest in reprising their roles in the redub. Regarding Stars who knows what would've happened with DiC's version anyway, I'm afraid and interested at the same time to see what DiC/Cloverway would have done with it.
***** Well I believe the other reason is cause the studio doing the dubbing is located in a place where they be unable to get those former vas out there since it'd cost a lot of money and they're putting a lot into this dub so that be out of the question. Plus it's likely that the creator Naoko wasn't that fond of the former dub cast due to how things went with it (well except for maybe a select few cause I find it hard for anyone to hate Ami's first dub voice) and Viz sought out her approval for this and she gave it thus this is the best cast. Also in some cases some voices didn't actually fit their chars at all. Luna's dub va was too old sounding which didn't fit the youthful voice the Japanese version has as well as the young woman like human design Luna gets in the second movie.
Sad thing is that the original dub cast (well the ones who voiced the Inner Senshis) actually did a pretty good job but with the dialogue given and the many censorships and so forth it would be hard for them to make it sound serious.
Goleon Then too, copyright laws are so absurd these days there could easily be a legal issue with the old voice reprising the role for a new studio. I have nothing hard to base that speculation on, but studios have started lawsuits over stupider things. Better to go for a completely new cast than risk poking that anthill.
nothri That is so true. That's one of the reasons why 4Kids couldn't get the vas from the 80's TMNT to reprise their roles in the Turtles Forever. Too much legal problems which is a shame cause that would of been the best reunion ever for that cast and to see them interact with the then current gen vas.
I don't understand why DiC dub fans are watching this clip expecting the Old DiC voices, news flash people that dub was made over *10 years ago* and is *no longer available* and was heavily edited to the point where the plot was changed. This is the Viz dub it is sticking to the japanese Sailor Moon meaning nothing is changed, *Usagi is Usagi* not Serena. *Mamoru is Mamoru* not Darien, etc. And this also means Luna is not a 40 year old british woman she's a young female cat close to Usagi's age. If you want to watch a poorly edited water downed version of Sailor Moon that will forever be stuck in the past, go ahead. Us Viz dub fans will be marveling in *200 Sailor Moon* episodes in their uncut glory, including specials, movies and what else was there...Sailor Moon Crystal.

If you're talking about the Cloverway dub, then the movies were edited, but only for Toonami broadcast. When I looked up the Cloverway dubs for the three films, all I saw were the uncut versions. However, the Cloverway edited dubs are infamous for being rushed because of Cartoon Network, and in the case of the S series dub, it did a horrible job at censoring Neptune and Uranus' relationship.

I totally agree with you but if Usagi is 14 and Luna is close to Usagi’s age then Luna would technically be old in cat years. But she should be young and not 40 years old

This dub is much, much better than the other one. Usagi's voice sounds nice and girly and Luna's voice is more mature and grown up, unlike her British old lady voice. I am looking forward to the rest of the characters' voices.

i like the new voice actors, and the only reason viz media was allowed to re-dub it was that Naoko Takeuchi have to approve of everything! She wanted VA's that she was happy with and wanted the dub to be as close to the original as possible which includes using the original names. So a petition isn't going to anything if Naoko Takeuchi has the same expectations for crystal

Trini Dayana Rivera You're not wrong, but anime is a visual medium. If a show has an unappealing design aesthetic, it will turn people off no matter how good the story is. I don't necessarily agree that SM:C looks that bad, but I can see why one would think so. Traditional animation has a warmth to it that digital can never match, even if the latter is technically better. Maybe it's the film grain?

MattPerd Hilariously, that's exactly what the works of Osamu Tezuka (creator of Astro Boy and many other things) were like. He always used the same cartoony style no matter how dark his stories got. No one complained.

I actually like Michelle Ruff's voice for Luna better than Jill Frappier's. It's a better match.
Fun Fact: Both Michelle Ruff (Luna) and Michie Tomizawa (The original Japanese voice of Sailor Mars) voiced Sumire Kanzaki from Sakura Wars.
I admit, I was used to hearing Jill Frappier as Luna, but when it came to the Hearts on Ice movie, where Sailor Moon granted Luna a human body for one night, her voice did not fit the character...since her human form was that of a young girl

I grew up with the older dub, but I prefer this one. The voices are so much calmer, something I could fall asleep watching (in a good way.) Surprisingly, I'm actually finding myself more interested in the story now than I ever was as a kid.
The day Usagi and Luna first met after Usagi saved Luna from those kids. I like that.

It's like I got my wish. Finally, a way to watch Sailor Moon in English, with it still being close to the original, with no cuts. The voices will take some time getting used to, but I can't wait till it comes out! XD Viz is a great dubbing company, they did an amazing job on Inuyasha! XD

Lucky for you, Viz is releasing this 100% uncut. That was kind of the requirement Naoko Takeuchi had to allow the show to be rereleased here.

TMX1138 I know. Granted, Takeuchi-sensei doesn't speak English and may not be as good a judge of these things as one who can, even though it's her characters, but it's still a solid cast.
Soufriere i'm thankful that Princess Naoko Takeuchi is finally giving us the Sailor Moon Anime the way it was always meant to be, in Fact i'm so thankful that if i could i would gladly kiss her feet out of gratitude.
Mind you, the Creator of the rseries herself choose these voices.

+Miss Coffee Cat Yupp indeed, that British (?) accent had a certain charme. Nevertheless - this dub makes me really get into the stuff, and of course seeing poor Luna desperately tryin' to "activate" Usagi still makes me laugh my f** a** off =D
And Crissy Vee ("Homura Akemi") as Rei Hino is of course the icing on the cake!!

This is much better then the one i saw when i was kid.
Don't care how this turn out because I know it will be 100 times better than what DiC and Cloverway put out.
With that being said, it is gonna take time to get use to because we are all too familiar with the original dub. It's gonna be weird hearing Luna and Ami without accents but it's for the best.
While I reckon the old DIC cast is more memorable to me, I am open to seeing more from these surprisingly solid new dub voices. Stephanie Sheh, in particular, I admire for her roles as Mikuru Asahina and Yui Hirasawa. She clearly has good range in voicing multi-faceted characters, too, like Akira from Lucky Star.
Also looking forward to seeing how Cristina Vee does in voicing Sailor Mars. I admire her work as well, her having voiced Homura Akemi and Noel Vermillion, two of my favourite anime characters ever!
One of the main reasons why the old cast isn't back though is because Viz is an American company, DIC and Cloverway were Canadian companies. The old dub actors are Canadian.

The Japanese voice of Usagi Tsukino and the American English voice of Luna also voiced Katherine from "Catherine" and Urumi Kanzaki from "Great Teacher Onizuka". Both of them born in late 1967.

For some reason it still feels like I'm watching a really good fan-dub. I guess it's because seeing them speak in English without all the random edits and Dic background music is still really surreal to me?
I'm still ultra hyped for this though. I'd even get the limited edition box set for the gold coin, but the last time I did anything like that was when I bought P&SWG on DVD. I was promised a gold coin but ended up not getting one :( Even though I pre-ordered and everything.... (I knew it was a bad sign when they took the gold coin off the RightStuf website...)

The logic side of my brain is like "THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT YOU GREW UP WITH, BUY IT"
But the deep, dark corner that houses my nostalgia is throwing a fit.
I totally understand why everyone is whining about the new voices, but if you remember the 90's script and think it's comparable to this, you are off your rocker.
I could even see this selling more copies than Sailor Moon Crystal because it will have an ocean of character development to watch through, as opposed to crystal where everyone is super stale and devoid of personality.
What hurt Crystal is that both the first and second story arcs crammed into a twenty six episode web series, rather than the Dark Kingdom arc having 20+ episodes to give the new anime room to breathe.
I love the beat they made for this, its catchy as hell.

1dbad I'm always open-minded with things like this. Unlike many who whine and bitch over it or any other kind of change, I'm willing to give things a chance. Like Equestria Girls. Many MLP fans were going to jump ship just from the first trailer for the first movie, like it's not even out yet, wait till you actually see the whole thing before you complain about it. Also I hate people that claim they're going to leave the series (any series) fandom cause of some change or whatever cause frankly if you're going to leave a fandom and stop being a fan of a series because of something like that then you're not really a fan of it since a real fan will stick through it no matter what. Sure they may not like it or fully approve of it but they'll tolerate it and keep watching the series despite that. Whenever I hear someone do that it makes me wonder why they even got into the series in the first place. I mean I wasn't fond of Pokemon USA changing the voice cast for the Pokemon dub but did I stop watching and being into the series cause of it? No. Despite how I felt on that I still continue to watch the series whenever I can. I may prefer the old cast to the new one but it doesn't make me less of a fan since I still enjoy it either way.
Freya Quinn Yeah, me and my bff were happily freaking out over the cast announcement since many of the vas for the new dub we're fans of. The biggest being the Four Generals. Oh god, Liam O'Brien (Gaara in Naruto, Jushiro in Bleach, Sanctus in DMC4, Nightcrawler in Wolverine & The X-Men) as Nephrite is going to make his final moments even more heartbreaking then the first dub and original Japanese.
Honestly I don't know how I feel about these new voices, but the visual quality is fantastic, and if I can still watch it subtitled that's all I care about.
I love Luna's vioce in this one, I so can not wait untill the DVD box set comes to my house!!! *Spins around happily*
Wow I can't believe all the hate i'm hearing about Usagi's voice. She is a 14 year old girl, she needs to sound young, sweet, and childish as the manga and the anime portrayed her. The old Western version was kool and I'll always have that nostalgia, but "Serena's" voice sounded more like an 18 year old than a kid. I'm just happy her name is Usagi and not "Serena." The U.S. has a saying: "Man on the moon." But a specific moon phase shows a shadow that looks like a rabbit, so the Japanese say "Bunny on the moon." Usagi means bunny. So the cute joke here a lot of people missed is that Usagi is the bunny from the moon. Plus the entire anime takes place in Japan, so there's no reason for more Western interference in what was already a masterpiece of an anime.
I grew up the dic dub of luna but after listening and watching the viz dub, they gave luna so much sass and i enjoy it so much more then her dic counterpart

I never liked Luna's old dub, too old, too authoritative, Luna never felt like a companion in the old dub, more like a boss. God, I hope there are lots more clips to come, like of the other scouts or the villains.

Let's be real, the only reason people are getting defensive and acting like these 1 minute clips are oscar worthy performances is because these voices are coming straight from Bleach and Naruto. Having not watched either of the 2, I can say in an unbiased opinion that these voices are just..alright. Queen Beryl's has been the most impressive to me but I will watch an actual episode or 2 before I give a good or bad opinion. Yes, in a perfect world I would have the old voices back and would love them to redeem themselves but if Naoko didn't approve of them (not that I'm sure she was presented with the option) then I must respect her decision and appreciate all that she is giving me as a fan. Btw bashing the old voices is not helping prove that the new ones are better. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I like everything about it, and I cant tell if it was done this way to put emphasis on Luna's voice, but does Luna seem to be kind of in the foreground of the sound. Like even more so than Usagi??? Usagi's voice sounds like it matches the soundtrack, giving it just enough emphasis, but Luna sounds like she is in another plane. Kinda like when a movie has a narrator, the often times make the narrator louder and in the foreground of sound so the audience can hear them...I think that was done here

I'm hoping this was just a result of the dub being somewhat early in the post-production phase and that it'll be altered once the final Blu-Ray comes out in November.
Yeah, the sound mixing sounds a bit off to me. But that's something that can be easily fixed before the Bluray release.

They actually sound amazing! the original cast was awful, these voices sound very decent, loving that there is also "guardians" and not "scouts", same for Usagi and no Serena.
