Same. I'm not sure what fans want out of this. Take away usagi's obnoxious and ditzy personality? I don't think that's bad acting, her character is supposed to be a little winy but endearing, she's called a crybaby for a reason. As far as I can tell, you can redub with accurate translations, better acting than the first dub, etc, etc, but it's still going to be a bit campy and ridiculous. You can't change the scripts and animation, only the actors delivering them. I think a part of it's charm is precisely that it's silly and a tad corny, it's a sentai-inspired show after all. And I mean that in the best possible way. Speaking as a newcomer that's just introduced with the new dub, the series is fun because it's so over the top and a little crazy, while feeling completely sincere because of it.
I totally agree with you. I think the people who are complaining just really miss the dub that they grew up with and that's completely understandable. We all love nostalgia, however there are more fans who want a more accurate translation and an uncut English version of this show and I'm so grateful that viz decided to give us something that most of us wanted and because of this, I was able to share this show to my little nieces (they love it so much!). I personally find this dub to be pretty great but in this case of past dubs v. New dub, to each their own.

She's bubbly and ditzy most of the time, but like in episode 34 where she learns of her responsibilities as the Moon Princess and 45 and 46 where her friends fail and she's desperate for a chance to forget all the suffering and live a normal life, it's completely different. It's hard to make me teary in a show, but she just sounds... broken, and like she's genuinely crying, and it got to me. It's wonderful and I can't wait for R and the rest. And eventually, Crystal. It's to the point where the dub cast has become the version for me, and I just can't see myself watching in Japanese. More ontopic, I don't see why nostalgic fans are upset. It's not like the dub they grew up with is gone or replaced, it's still there for them to enjoy. Meanwhile, if their demands of retaining aspects from the original dub were kept, it'd only keep a new dub stuck in the past and inaccurate. There doesn't have to be a flame war, they can have their version, and we can have our's. In all fairness, I admit that the acting was pretty good with what they were given and forced to change for the first two seasons. The rewrites and accents weren't the dubbing team's fault, it's simply what they were given by their superiors. And the composer for the altered score made some very good tracks, so I won't be the other guy and say everything was terrible, either. Under those restrictions, I commend them for giving their best job. After seeing cast interviews made after the announcement of the license, I can't bring myself to dislike them, they did what they did and most actually said they'd jump at the chance to come back if they could because they're fans too. Apologies for the long post.
In my opinion, the new VA for Sailor Moon is okay, I didn't like her at first because she was too high pitched and I wished that Terri Hawkes were still voicing her (still do at times). Now, she's starting to grow on me. But Sailor Mars, Sailor Venus and Sailor Mercury have the WORST voices (out of the Inner Senshi). I don't get why everybody loves Sailor Venus's new VA! But Jupiter's new VA is awesome! Reminds me of Susan Roman's actual voice!
I really am satisfied with the new voices. I also really like the fact of who they got to play Uranus. Erica Mendez, who also played Ryuko Matoi from Kill la kill. (now I can only imagine seeing Uranus wearing Senketsu)
Yeah the echo made it sound hype as hell. I was a sucker for the battle music The DIC dub always played for fights, always gave a "it's about to go down" vibe.
I feel like her, Susan Roman and Katie Griffin would be really happy. I tweeted Katie and asked if she was watching and she says she hasn't yet (which is really ironic cause I was watching Mars' intro episode) but the new voices for Mars Jupiter and Venus are great. Mercury is ok and Moon is still getting use to
the only real problem I have is with Moon, I love her voice actress but I dont like how shes voicing her really. Like when shes talking normally shes fine, but once she transform (and she says her phrase in the same tone every single time and it irks me) and then she does the speech in the same voice. Like at least Tracey Moore, Terri Hawkes (love her btw) and Linda Ballantyne switched up their tones everytime

Honestly it makes me sad that there are several people who do not like this dub. The fact they prefer things like the DiC Luna over the more appropriate voice in this dub saddens me... same goes for characters like Usagi. Honestly this is the closest voice dub wise to the Japanese we've ever had in my opinion. Yeah maybe not all of the voices work, but a lot are improvements. Sailor Moon finally gets a good English dub that it's needed and people are just bitchy and whiny about it... *siiiiigh*

Mars sounds a lot like one of the old Mars voices from the English one. I actually quite like the voices they chose for the inners, but I miss Terri as Usagi, she was just too perfect.
Everyone keeps saying DIC ruined Sailor Moon but remember this was the 90's and it was tailored more for young children, I can see why people are mad a lot of things were uncut. But to me the other voices had more emotion which made it more distinct. I can close my eyes and see these girls in gundams. It's just your a-typical anime girl voice. When Queen Serenity died I felt no emotion from the new voice it just felt like she was reading off a Script. I don't know maybe I'm speaking to a bunch of millennials or people are just more satisfied about the fact it's "uncut"

I gotta say, as much as I am looking forward to a complete and uncut dub of Sailor Moon (FINALLY!), I miss some of the other voice actors like the ones who did Makoto and Minako. However, these new VA's are doing a fantastic job.
Back then I tried to imagine that Sonnt Strait would voice Artemis. But hearing the japanese voice and comparing it to Johnny Yong Bosch, I think JYB is a good fit for Artemis.
Out of all 5 scouts Venus was the best on the first time hearing the rest took along while for me to used to, hope the remaining scouts get better on once they get more practice for there roles

I love these voices! It took me awhile to get into mars but I'm feeling it now, why does viz do this too us I wanna own this already :D and another thing I can't wait for the last two episodes of this season because I wanna hear if these voice actors got what it takes to get the epic, dramatic, feeling the Japanese did in those episodes. i LOVE this dub. the only thing that bothers me is the scenes that were made so memorable and funny in the old dub like when sailor moon found out mamo was tuxedo mask and she was like "heistuxedomaskidontbelieveit" i wish they did something similar in the new dub instead of making usagi go "gAsp!1! h-he iSs tuxedo mask!1!!" it just felt so cheesy to me idk
So I saw people commenting below about this airing on Toonami. I doubt it, since Toonami is now airing only once a week at night time and this anime is 200 episodes long. Crystal seems like it's more likely to be added, since it's newer and with a more serious plot that can cater to the older audience that Toonami airs for, but it seems Toonami now only truly cares about shounen, so does a magical girl anime even have a chance? It would be nice to see, however. And personally, I think Toonami should try to steer away from CN and get their own channel. Or even if they do stay with Cartoon Network, maybe they could still have a separate premium channel (like Boomerang) that plays mostly re-runs but also new episodes at certain times. Lastly, since Viz is dubbing the '90s Sailor Moon, I'd be forever in their debt if they also did Cutey Honey Flash. America has only seen Cutey Honey once, and it was an R-rated ecchi and all of the voice acting was shit save for Honey's voice. Then we have Cutey Honey F which was the last magical girl in the same time-slot with Sailor Moon, a mahou shoujo take on Cutey Honey that was made because CH became popular amongst young girls. It even had the same character designer and the majority of the animation team from Sailor Stars! And... you can't find subs or even fandubs of it anywhere. Please Viz, if you can work with Naoko Takeuchi, surely you can also work with Go Nagai? Ooookay this comment ended up longer than it was supposed to be AND I went off-topic. Sorry, lol.

Love Sailor Venus' new voice; it's perfect! Princess Seminar is one of my favorite episodes! They chose a great voice for Kunzite's monster too.
I swear Kunzite’s voice is the same guy who voices Dio in Jojo’s Bizzare adventure.

It took me awhile to get into mars but I'm feeling it now, why does viz do this too us I wanna own this already :D and another thing I can't wait for the last two episodes of this season because I wanna hear if these voice actors got what it takes to get the epic, dramatic, feeling the Japanese did in those episodes. Viz I can't wait! keep up the great work! =D
We'll get to hear the dub of the last two season 1 episodes on December 6th! Viz will be releasing them for a limited time on Hulu.

i LOVE this dub. the only thing that bothers me is the scenes that were made so memorable and funny in the old dub like when sailor moon found out mamo was tuxedo mask and she was like "heistuxedomaskidontbelieveit" i wish they did something similar in the new dub instead of making usagi go "gAsp!1! h-he iSs tuxedo mask!1!!" it just felt so cheesy to me idk
So I saw people commenting below about this airing on Toonami. I doubt it, since Toonami is now airing only once a week at night time and this anime is 200 episodes long.
Crystal seems like it's more likely to be added, since it's newer and with a more serious plot that can cater to the older audience that Toonami airs for, but it seems Toonami now only truly cares about shounen, so does a magical girl anime even have a chance? It would be nice to see, however.
And personally, I think Toonami should try to steer away from CN and get their own channel. Or even if they do stay with Cartoon Network, maybe they could still have a separate premium channel (like Boomerang) that plays mostly re-runs but also new episodes at certain times.
Lastly, since Viz is dubbing the '90s Sailor Moon, I'd be forever in their debt if they also did Cutey Honey Flash. America has only seen Cutey Honey once, and it was an R-rated ecchi and all of the voice acting was shit save for Honey's voice. Then we have Cutey Honey F which was the last magical girl in the same time-slot with Sailor Moon, a mahou shoujo take on Cutey Honey that was made because CH became popular amongst young girls. It even had the same character designer and the majority of the animation team from Sailor Stars! And... you can't find subs or even fandubs of it anywhere. Please Viz, if you can work with Naoko Takeuchi, surely you can also work with Go Nagai?

Hulu had the first 23 episodes up but then they took them down. Idk if Neon Alley has them but since they use the Hulu video they probably won't have them
