As a hardcore smash fan who isn't really a fan of the traditional street fighter style of fighting games, I came into this video knowing that that's what it would mostly be composed of. Regardless seeing sick combos being pulled off as well as hype popoffs, I couldn't help but feel excited for all of the games and all of the clips. Then I scroll down to the comment section, and the amount of people bitching over smash being in Evo just hurts my heart :/
Bilal Gill Smash doesn't belong in the FGC, but it's here and people are sick of it, as well as I am. But it's here to stay thanks to the views. Sadly thanks to competitive smash the FGC will never grow as an actual esport.
Bilal Gill I'm not the one acting hostile over a videogame. It has no place in the FGC, and neither do you. Not a bad thing, just the truth. It's also the truth that it's still here and not going anywhere. Your hostility over such a minor subject just proves my point.
Qeedle how am I the hostile one here? I'm not the one refusing a huge fandom the chance to be on the big stage. Why? "It has no place." Sounds like a superiority complex to me. I have no problem with all of the other games. I'm not being hostile, I just want us to be accepted, and your outright denial is hostility to me.
I really wanna get into watching fighting games, but I've only played a few of them and those I have played I suck at. How can I get into this such that I understand what's happening and can appreciate the skill?
Tournament series like E-League are very beginner friendly. (There's others, but off the top of the head, that's the best one.) There's also series that help teach how the games play such as Cross Counter tv series: Excellent Adventures with Gootecks and Mike Ross or The Recipie with TastyJam
You can usually develop an understanding of each game by watching streams and TH-cam videos, but going to tournaments and playing with others is really where you can learn a lot. You're most definitely going to lose a lot, but playing against better people and learning from those losses helps you get better. Just remember: everyone has to start somewhere
Chris Baltazar That would probably be the best, but as far as I know there is no community in any near proximity to where I live. Then again I learned American Football by only watching it on TV, would that be possible with fighting games aswell?
Cheers Mate For me, I just played a shit ton and learning whats happening when I watch people play. Tekken for example is a good example, because there are a million moves in each character, but when you watch the pros play, they only use certain moves most of the time and ignoring 80% of the move list. Also, playing a lot helps, especially with someone else because it helps you develop a play style, and of course learn how to play. Fighting games in general isn't the easiest game to learn, because the skill isn't scalable. knowing tech and comboes doesn't show how good you are, and its not like a MMO where you can actually see your progress through level ups and exp. And finally don't get discouraged from losing, but take notes on what you did wrong, which is the most important thing in my opinion, because every match is like an experiment where you see different results of an outcome. I could ramble on about this but hope it helps!
You can learn a decent amount from watching videos online, but the only way to truly understand the mechanics of the game is by interacting with others. Like I said earlier, playing games with others (online works if you can't make it to tournaments) and interacting with streamers really helps develop one's understanding sooner. I've seen numerous people ask pros on Twitch questions regarding the game (AvoidingthePuddle comes to mind, for example), and usually these streamers answer live. Hope this helps :)
Yeah. Also, note: He made it to the next game in Pools 1, and fought FUCKING ZeRo! ZERO!!! He lost, and THEN FOUGHT AMSA! Maybe woulda made it further if ZeRo of all people wasn't in his pool.
KnobSlobbem You can make any fighting game a "party game". It's what's possible competitively that determines whether or not it earns a spot at EVO. To me, Smash undeniably earns a spot at EVO, there is much more complexity than at first glance
KnobSlobbem I never said that Melee was better than those games. I was just trying to say that a lot of people must consider it a fighting game for it to still be at EVO and pull so many viewers. Honestly, I love other fighting games and I want to get better at them but Smash is the one that I personally enjoy the most. I've made a lot of friends in the community and all around it's built on love for the series and wanting to push the game further
Tokido winning was still the best moment. When you realize how long it took to him and the journey... the fucking guy is one of the 5 fighting game gods of the japan for Christ sake...
Meanwhile in the ACTUAL FGC where the ACTUAL pros are ... Daigo and JWong had a good time playing Melee. Guys, just ignore the salty children who have the mentality of squealing 5 Year old Minecraft fans. Live life as Tokido says: Fighting games, from Street Fighter to Smash, are so damn great and I am so happy to have been witnessing greatness from the days of SF3 and Melee till now.
Tristan Jacquier It really is. Too bad that it's so underappreciated. The skill level to play Blazblue is pretty high up there. The character that won Evo (Carl) is like using 2 characters at once. Fenrich might have been using a shoto character but you can see how immacualte he was with it. Just count his instant blocks (press back 8f before an attack hits if I am not mistaken) while holding a very tight defense...that is skill.
COREY M Bro, GG is harder execution wise over all, IMO. I play both but I like BB's story more so I got more attached to it's characters than GG. I also suck at throwing at GG, IMO, if you can play GG then you can definitely play BB...unless you plan to play Carl as when it comes to technical characters, BB has more of them.
I have a question...what are some current(for multiplayer and competitive) fighting games that are good for pc? I kinda want to start playing fighting games , I've been watching many videos and things like that but I have no idea which ones are good atm.
Video is very well done. But I believe that you should have had more spotlights for other games. Each one had their own good handful of outstanding plays.
Wait. There’s still UMVC3 on Evo???? I played that game for years. I wonder why my country didn’t have tournaments for UMVC. But there’s one for tekken

MSL Ali Ik how it feels man ik Im not saying this as a salty person but it's weird to me that people are bringing up smash as like the hardest fighting game in the comments but tekken is probably the hardest
Not going to lie, should I be an Evo champion and a huge player altogether, I'd give no interview and talk to no one, not shake hands and basically let everyone speculate on me whilst no one would really know what I think. I'd just let legends and myths grow about me, would deny none of them so as to have a heavy atmosphere whenever I attend a tournament. Obviously I'd have to win each and everyone of these.
My weakness is that I'm not cheap. I don't corner in SFV and I don't take free shots at somebody in stun. I have a sense of... well now I'm just procuring the haters. Never mind...
I don't do cheap. You may as well shoot somebody while they're sleeping if you don't give somebody a break when you're good enough to even stun them in the first place.
I have no idea what's going on but the commentary gets me hyped
Tokido eliminated every US player in top 8. Such a great play by Tokido!
Using the best character in the game😂😂
"DONT WAKE DADDY"- will forever be my favourite evo moment. i watched that entire tournament from beginning to end and it was INSANE!
JDCR vs Knee in the Tekken winner's finals was so dope as hell.

That's because melee is the cancer that refuses to die. The day it does everything will be better, I promise.
Sounds to me like you're the cancer that refuses to die here.
Bilal Gill Smash doesn't belong in the FGC, but it's here and people are sick of it, as well as I am. But it's here to stay thanks to the views. Sadly thanks to competitive smash the FGC will never grow as an actual esport.

12:28 *damn! that Urien combo! ✅😎*
james chen crying T_T
FGC is lucky to have a figure like James Chen.
So glad we have a person like him in FGC.
Ldead11 James is absolute cinnamon roll ♥
Ldead11 yeah man, that gave me the feels too.
He does every year ^_^
8:23
Yipes goes back to 2003
"YEH, OLD SKOOL?!!"
8:49 Man, this guy must be sick a Mario Kart
KnobSlobbem What I hate is how divided the FGC is. Everyone hates the games they don't play
KnobSlobbem I never said that Melee was better than those games. I was just trying to say that a lot of people must consider it a fighting game for it to still be at EVO and pull so many viewers. KnobSlobbem So whenever people bash smash, I get kinda defensive
I don't even know whats going on in any of these but still hyped! love watching fighting games.
Tokido winning was still the best moment. When you realize how long it took to him and the journey... the fucking guy is one of the 5 fighting game gods of the japan for Christ sake...
Bro it took me like 20 minutes to get through the Injustice 2 tutorial, but these videos still get me hyped.
Tokidos achievement is up there. He's been top 8 in the past for so long in multiple games and he finally won another one after so many years
Meanwhile in the ACTUAL FGC where the ACTUAL pros are ...
Sir Jetiau As a fan of minecraft I am triggered
Thanks for making this!
2017 and people still try to argue over which fighting game is the best/hardest.
Why not enough Tekken? :(
Tekken was pretty boringt this year tbh, I mean it had good moments sure, but not many.
wow.
No Blazblue?
No one saw how immaculate Fenrich came back from the dead countless times? wow, just wow.
how about Dora Vs Var to get to top 8? no?
Kuma Self I've never played blazblue but it sure looked awsome, one of the hypest game of this evo
Tristan Jacquier It really is. Too bad that it's so underappreciated. The skill level to play Blazblue is pretty high up there. The character that won Evo (Carl) is like using 2 characters at once. Just count his instant blocks (press back 8f before an attack hits if I am not mistaken) while holding a very tight defense...that is skill.
blazblue had the 2nd best top 8 after SFV. amazingly fun to watch, i wanna get into it. I play guilty gear too so it might not be as hard.
Fenrich's defense was out of this world.
I've never really played king of fighters but the commentators were lit that looks crazy
MY BOI LYTHERO IN THERE WITH THE PLAYS
praise based Nage. He had so many stylish plays this evo.
"Fighting games are great"
Burst out in tears
Not enough honeybee, that man deserves a spot in every category
Amazing video, do anybody knows the name of the BGM that starts around 13:00, thanks!
Such hype at 6:17 the Level one Frank West comeback by Readman fka FizzyKups after Jibrill dropped it!
Great highlights!
Thanks! It was another great year so we wanted to show as many amazing plays and moments as possible :D
- Nic
tekken needs more love
+theScore esports but no blazblue? :(
Only 1 Injustice clip? Honeybee alone had enough hype moments for a 10 minute compilation lol I wish there could be more Injustice and Tekken in this
The Sixth Hokage ikr
i understand about that but the problem is, he was getting played by a character who spammed and spammed for chip damage, what do you expect
well he wouldnt have to chip if his opponents would stop blocking!
But there are 2 clips, at 4:15 and 14:15 . i wonder if that was deliberate.
The Sixth Hokage in
Ayyyy tokido with the evo capcom cup !!
Its that time of the year again, boys
Where is JDCR holding the trophy? :(
Gabriele Hu that's what I thought, left him out :(
I just played UMvC3 and how do you pull off Doom's double foot dive?
OMG poongko combo with akuma was so sick!!
hey whats the game at 5:35 ? looks cool
blazblue
Guilty Gear Xrd rev 2
I have a question...what are some current(for multiplayer and competitive) fighting games that are good for pc? I kinda want to start playing fighting games , I've been watching many videos and things like that but I have no idea which ones are good atm.
Tekken 7. much better on pc than on console
Joe Nitrate is it played well with a
xbow controller or would I need one of those long style ones?
Book's comeback from his battle with jeondding and Saint's comeback with 3 consecutive low parry, tho I forgot what battle it is.
Nice compilation.
5:08 Looks like the Byeahs evolved from fighting in real life to fighting in video games.
i love how theres othe evo year plays in this
11:03 what game is this?
Video is very well done. But I believe that you should have had more spotlights for other games. Each one had their own good handful of outstanding plays.
This is why I love competitive video gaming
Especially sm4sh
make fighting games great again... James and ultra steve are the champions of fighter games commentators the best of the best
Song @4:48?
FIGHTING GAME IS SOMETHING SO GREAT!!!
Wait. There’s still UMVC3 on Evo???? I played that game for years. I wonder why my country didn’t have tournaments for UMVC. But there’s one for tekken
Games I hope are at EVO 2018.
-King Of Fighters XIV
-Mortal Kombat XL
-Super Smash Bros. 4
-Guilty Gear XRD: Revelator
-Street Fighter 5 Arcade Edition
-Tekken 7 Fated Retribution
-Injustice 2
-Marvel VS Capcom Infinite
-Killer Instinct Season 3
And Dragon ball FightersZ
What is the song used in the last fight, when he perfects the guy in guilty gear?
KOF 14 is where i freaked out the most
Whats the song at 9:45
what is the game at 6:00?
jimmy chance Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator 2
looks kinda sick
let s go! glory 4 the champs
Whats the significance of the first clip,... anybody can explain it to me?
Is killer instinct not at evo?
where is the raging demon from Tokido?
9:13 that finesse though
Great work, but I just wanna know how many times you skipped honeybee in the comebacks section?
Ahh! Lythero made it into the reel!
Needs more Kof.
The only fighting games I have experience is Tekken Street fighter and Sm4sh.
But damn those combos are CLEEEAAANNN
hey someone know the name of the each song i want it please✌
This is amazing but...where's the demon on punk?
Loxely Forget the demon. Where is Knuckledu's Ex flashkick comeback on Tokido during top 8?
Mappy Bc Forget Du. Where is Poongko's parry against Mika and Nadeshiko? That was crazy!
this channel don't really follow the games so they don't know what's really hype. let's forgive them.
Or Semiij's Flawless vs SonicFox?
2017 is an Echo Fox Year
Wait, did no big marlinpie killer combos happen during EVO? That's surprising.
James is fucking awesome, love u bro
13:34 ¡¡QUE BIÉN!! Colombia Presente (^-^)/
Is "clutch" the new "jiggy"? guess im out of the loop but damn does that sound forced in.
E.T is the man
reverse cowgirl?
No Prince Abu?
Congrats to Salem for winning evo! 😁😁
Lythero was here!
3:23 I didn't see that one pixel left.
The background music ruins this otheterwise great vid man.
Blazblue seems really fun, how steep is the learning curve
fucking huge
Casually sits back and reads the Smash hate.
Why always tekken 7 forgotten !
MSL Ali Ik how it feels man ik Im not saying this as a salty person but it's weird to me that people are bringing up smash as like the hardest fighting game in the comments but tekken is probably the hardest
R.I.P Justin Wong...you will be missed 😭
Not going to lie, should I be an Evo champion and a huge player altogether, I'd give no interview and talk to no one, not shake hands and basically let everyone speculate on me whilst no one would really know what I think.
I'd just let legends and myths grow about me, would deny none of them so as to have a heavy atmosphere whenever I attend a tournament. Obviously I'd have to win each and everyone of these.
Evo 2017 UMvC3??? I thought they moved to MVCi???
EVO happened about 2 months before MVCI came out
what does the winner get tho?
Milan Magar money(depending on how large the pot is) and a trophy
Is.. Blazblue not that popular? :O
the lack of 60fps is hurting my eyes
13:06= Is that a girl in EVO? Let alone the Video Game Community? ABOUT FUCKING TIME!
Notice how honeybee got most of the attention as his flash ;) and dragon didn't get anything
No MK?
should label the game titles
Not enough tekken
Tekken wasn't that good to watch. The most hyped games were GG, KoF and SFV.
TheF4kE Tekken was amazing to watch bro, to each to everyones taste. Then again we have are opinions.
Tekken is my favorite fighting game these days but I have to agree with TheF4akE, to other games were more hype.
The rest of these fighting games in this video are kind of shitty.
Tekken > all.
we were already blessed with a sick top 8 from the rev major a week before
more tekken next year, please
Top kek
😎
Wait hold on wasn't amsa a melee player?
Now even one Samitto combo.....wow
I wish Killer Instinct was in EVO 2017
Same. When they have shit no one cares about like Vampire Savior and SFxT at Evo, it doesn't make sense not to have Killer Instinct.
vampire savior shit ? lol
How many people actually care about Vampire Savior?
first of all these were in Anime EVO which has no connection to EVO at all. its an independently run evebt
Viewtiful Z Vampire Savior is a legit party game. Not a real fighting game whatsoever.
We need more tekken .....
>Putting an HBox comeback
He does that shit all the time
My weakness is that I'm not cheap. I don't corner in SFV and I don't take free shots at somebody in stun. I have a sense of... well now I'm just procuring the haters. Never mind...
You really should. It's disrespectful towards your opponents if you limit yourself during the match
Dang bro. Thats extra disrespectful with that stun stuff
I don't do cheap. You may as well shoot somebody while they're sleeping if you don't give somebody a break when you're good enough to even stun them in the first place.
FoxxLegend
But that's not cheap....
FoxxLegend Isn't that the point of a stun, to punish them more? Letting them stay stunned is basically BM lol
Fighting game is something so great!(Although I'm not good at fighting game, like SF、Fatal Fury、KOF...etc)
Fighting games are great
Whats the music used at the smash clip and the tekken clip?
There was a lot of good Tekken moments you'd skipped on...
