- Some rivalries push a game forward. Some rivalries make for the most exciting, incredible matches.
But some rivalries transcend the game.
SonicFox and GO1 are two of the greatest fighting game players of all time. They came from two completely different scenes, two different countries, spoke two different languages, and when they were brought together, they created the greatest rivalry in fighting games.

The fact that Sonicfox was the one who raised GO1's hand puts a smile on my face. A true rival isnt someone you hate, its a person who brings out the best in you and then some, that doesnt get down when losing but instead celebrates with you as you push each other to even greater heights.

That grand finals will forever go in my book as greatest match of all time, no joke. The raw emotion that Goichi experienced said it all. I totally shed a tear of joy for the guy. You could tell he trained all year long for that moment.

You're talking about the guy who played in tournaments Dr. Cold (the shortest movelist in Inj2 with 4 combos and 4 specials, but the biggest corner combo which is hard to set up) just to not give many opportunities to watch his Red Hood in action.

I love the fact that they are just so happy to fight each other, that’s what every rivalry should be like! Pushing each other to your limits exhausted, yet smiling and laughing with pure joy of the rush you get when you put your all into it!

man I love this, you can't hate a wholesome rivalry. they both understand the importance of trashtalk and the theatricism in the showbiz, but they keep it professional and actually respect and acknowledge each other as top players

GO1's defense in their first set at EVO is LEGENDARY btw. God, there is no one who can block in this game for so long, successfully as well.

They respected each other's skill and still be able to maintain a friendship. Much respect to the both players. Definitely will be tuning in more on their matches, especially with each other. What Sonic did at Go1's win at Evo definitely propelled his humanity to the next level.

It's done in all sports. Trashtalking your rival in the language their home compatriots can understand makes it more a matter of national pride.

This is why I love the FGC. GO1 vs Sonicfox never fails to entertain me. Also their friendly banter is so wholesome. Unlike some people who become super toxic lol.
This is some incredible rivalry I didnt even know that it was this big. God like rivalry and a great video summarising it
Sonicfox and GO1 actually did play each other some more after EVO 2018, but it was for exhibition sets in Japan. Sonic actually beat Kazunoko in those sets too, but obviously didn't bring that same level of performance to the World Championship.
Also, let's not forget, while Sonic is an NRS player, he (along with his buddy Dekillsage) was coming to DBFZ as a Skullgirls player. That factors a lot into how he approaches the game. It kinda mirrors GO1 coming from a scene like Melty Blood, which is cool.
I love how their like best friends in these fighting games it’s honestly amazing how two completely different people from 2 different countries can be best friends through gaming
This actually made me cry, this is amazing and I thought I would never see something as great as this in games such as Dragon ball fighters. At first it was a strong rivalry, then it turned into something that will always be in their head, their friendship and the games they played against each other.
I love these two for their genuine glee and excitement when the other pops off for their celebration. Ultimate respect
The best rivalry in the fgc history, no salt, no rage, pure friendly rivalry across the years. The respect that they have for one another, and the will to surpass their rival are so strong, the bond is unimaginable.
I never knew of the rivalry between Go1 and Sonic, but this was amazing to watch.

He's incredible at fighting games, and has a lot of respect for the community and his opponents and i adore that part of him greatly, however his political views and opinions on some matters are a bit out of left field for most including myself, i stand behind his skills and his respect, but not behind his views and opinions, and tho i'm not someone that would harras someone over that, some people for some reason like to do that.

One of my favorite rivalries is between Justin Wong, Chris G, and Filipino Champ in MvC3. Every round and set was soo hype.
