    Since I have to wear a motorcycle helmet to protect myself. I will never polish my car by hand in fear of losing my life.

    Thanks for the video. I`m surprised you didn`t use a swirl movements. Could explain why?

    • @classiccarmaintenance
      @classiccarmaintenance  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question! If you like to polish in swirling motions, that’s just fine. You’re not harming your car paint in any way. Some people think that’s an easier technique. It’s a personal preference I guess.
      The reason why we don’t recommend that technique is that no matter which polish or compound you use and how careful you work, there will always be minute scratches and swirls left after the final finishing polish. That’s just the nature of polishing, it’s by abrasion using a compound that you remove larger scratches. In turn, this compound will leave smaller scratches. Then you use a fine finishing polish to remove those. But, no matter how fine the polish, it too will leave minute scratches. Though you won’t notice them inside your garage or on a cloudy day, they can be seen in full sunlight because the sun reflects in the tiny scratch marks. If you look closer, you will see that not all scratches can be seen at once because only the ones in the right angle toward the sun will reflect light. When you change your viewing position, you will see that the scratches or swirls will “disappear” because they are no longer in the right angle to reflect light. However, from your new viewing angle, new scratches will appear that weren’t visible first because they now reflect sunlight. And so on…
      When you polish in swirls randomly, scratches will be seen from all angles because an orbital scratch always reflects light from some point, no matter what your viewing angle is.
      When you polish in straight motions in a crosshatch pattern, you will notice that these minute polishing scratches are much less visible from most viewing angles. That’s because most of them (depending on how straight your polishing technique is) will only be visible from two distinct angles that line up with the crosshatch pattern. That’s why in our experience, a crosshatch pattern is the way to go.
      Happy detailing!

      Hi! I just checked, and the links seem to be working on my end, so I assume the Amazon.com store doesn't deliver to your location. The product we're using is the Sonax Cutmax and Perfect Finish Kit. You can find them by opening this link amzn.to/3l0id4a and in the amazon store changing the hyperlink from ".com" to whatever Amazon store delivers to you, like "amazon.co.uk" or "amazon.de"
      Hope this helps!

    Nice video, but after you finish all the car, you will be exhausted from all that polishing and wiping! Plus, im not sure you will have enough polish paste for the whole car at that rate. Its not that im being lazy, its the fact that ive done it alone, so i know better.

    How often do you use your brush on the pad to clean it and what is your technique?

    • @classiccarmaintenance
      @classiccarmaintenance  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi,
      Just keep an eye on your polishing pad. It’s easy enough to see when it needs to be brushed clean. After you’ve used it for a while, the pad surface will get caked up with all the contamination that is removed from your car paint, along with residue from the polishing product. Sometimes it’s an even layer, but most of the time it’ll only get caked up in some spots. It all depends on how bad your car paint is contaminated and how you apply pressure on the pad.
      If you’re not sure if you need to clean your polishing pad yet, gently fold and squeeze the pad surface in all directions to check. If the seemingly flat surface cracks like a soggy cookie, loosens from the pad or wrinkles and doesn’t get back in shape, your pad needs to be cleaned. If the polishing surface comes back to its original flat shape, you’re good.
      You can also check the pad surface visually: you should be able to distinguish the sponge pores on the polishing surface. If they’re not visible, they are clogged and the pad needs to be cleaned.
      There’s no special technique to get the residue off, really. Just brush the residue off in all directions with your polishing pad cleaning brush until it's gone. Nothing to it!
      Happy detailing!

    Wait a min :) what should I do if my paint thickness is too thin ?

    • @classiccarmaintenance
      @classiccarmaintenance  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question!
      If, based on paint thickness measurements, it looks like your car’s paint is too thin to polish out all scratches and defects, you’ve got 3 options:
      1. Don’t polish your car, but instead apply a protective coating or wax to enhance your car paint’s color warmth, shine and depth. You can’t go wrong with that.
      2. Only polish very lightly by hand, only using a finishing polish, with the aim to only enhance the shine and overall appearance without removing the deeper scratches. If you’re very gentle, you should be OK.
      3. Polish it and hope for the best, because you don’t have much to lose. If your car paint is so thin, it’s going to have to be repainted in the near future anyway. Chances are it’ll turn out great. You never know how much clear coat your paint has left. You may get away with polishing a 80 or 90 micron coating if your original car paint consisted of a thin primer and base coat with a thick clear coat. Normally your clear is about 40% of total thickness, but you don’t know what the total thickness of the original paint was, of course… It’s entirely up to you to decide if you feel lucky…

      Amazing, I saved that one. 🤓🤓 I'll choose no. 2 , I won't remove the scratch but I might fill it with a primer+paint+clear liquids and then flat it, but I know all of this is crazy, and contain both knowledge + Art, Thank you so much! 🤩@@classiccarmaintenance

      Option #2 would be a great choice. Depending on the state your car paint is in, you can fill in some deep scratches, flatten them afterward and get a somewhat decent result, but don’t expect miracles. We’re working on a how-to video on this subject. It will be released in the near future. However, please be advised that if your car paint is littered with scratches, this won’t be a viable option. Also, if your clear coat is thin, you might sand through the surrounding coat when you try to flatten the paint repair.
      Our advice would be to gently hand polish to revive your paint and then apply a protective coating. You’d be amazed what awesome results you can achieve by simply applying a quality car wax or a graphene spray coating. It only takes about 30 minutes to apply and there’s zero risk of screwing it up.
      If you want to go all-in and make it a weekend project, why not try a full blown graphene coating? If you follow instructions, you can achieve professional looking results. A full-blown graphene coating is the most durable option to protect your vulnerable paint from wear and the elements. You can check out our video on how to apply a graphene coating.

      Great Advices I really appreciate it and find that I want to apply them too, I'm gonna be mind picking on the channel for sure 🤑🤑,
      I plan as a beginner with mazda3 2016 soul red, stunner, to start cleaning correctly when the products arrive, then, because I'm concerned about locking imperfections I'll start lightly with "Turtle Wax 53737 Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Patent-Pending Graphene Paste Wax (5.5 oz), Black" then when I get the bold to stop messing around I'll do the real Graphene for sure, the real deal, I'll keep learning to get to this level 🥸🥸 @@classiccarmaintenance
