After watching, I immediately ordered from ITead and it was finally delivered after about a month! I also picked up a variety of sensors as I have zero zigbee devices but I'm sick of the fragile and inconsistent z-wave integrations (errrr z-wave in general) with HomeAssistant. This video, along with the blog post (added some clarity that I needed) were great!
The Zigbee temp/humidity sensor is working great and the range seems great; reaches my master bath from my network closet which is about 80 ft & 3 walls + 1 brick wall.
My flashing process was a little finicky but overall smooth -- the USB to TTL device I had acted up after trying to take a backup of existing firmware via Tasmotizer.... but after unplugging it it started working again.
Tip 1: I found some different cable sets on Amazon that included male-to-femaile as well as male-to-male wires in one set. This let me use a breadboard for joingin the grounds together instead of mucking with the way that is presented on the video.
Tip2: BUT, these wires did not fit in the holes of the Sonoff Zigbee pcb nearly as easily as shown in the video. IN fact they didn't fit at all initially. But upon close inspection I could see that the male ends of the wire are folded over (not solit) so by squeezing them with pliers, to deform them, I was able to get them small enough to wedge into the PCB with a pretty solid connection and flashing went smoothly after that!
    I bought this wire kit:

Update on my xiaomi sensors, I now have them all working. The switch & xiaomi cubes only show as a power entity, but zha_events show the switch clicks (no hold/long press) & cube actions. These are set up in either ha or node red to activate other entities etc. Shame they aren't fully integrated, but maybe in the future =). Works for all intents & purposes though, so happy.

Unrelated device: recently attempted to flash a device via the UART connectors. Read the bin off fine, and wrote the new one. All was good. I plugged it in to the power and nothing happened.
It took a solid 30 seconds of looking at the board to see a blob of solder that I'd dropped and shorted the board out. Rip to my first and only attempt at manual flashing. I'll try again soon with a bit more care and patience

    Good evening,
Today i received my Sonoff Zigbee bridge, board version v1.1, dated 20200228.
I walked through the proces described here and on your site.
I get tasmoto on it and can change the wifi setting. The bridge connects to my wifi and it functions.
After that i do the backlog command and then it isn't going like supposed to.
First of all i see the cmd in the console and after that it doesn't say anything anymore. Also the wifi connection is dropped and there are a lot of connection timeouts.
I've seen that in templates the custom template is selected and nog the sonoff zigbee bridge, do i have to select this? i didn't select a template due to the fact that it isn't written in the tutorials.
Are there more people with this problem? Why is the backlog command making the bridge work? What can i do about it?
Hoping you or someone has the sollution so i can proceed with flashing the zigbee chip and use the device in HA.
    Greetings,
    Mark

Great video Travis - clean, clear and to the point. Just one question, for those who want to use "routers" (as maybe we have door sensors on shed doors at the far end of the garden for example) is it possible to flash a Sonoff Zigbee Bridge and use it in "Router" mode instead of "Coordinator"??

As I understand it, a “coordinator” node handles the wifi-Zigbee mesh connection. The Zigbee “routers” are like mesh repeaters/extenders. If you only have Zigbee routers, they won’t have a connection to the internet.

Aqara motion has an over 1 minute cool down. I thought wyze was bad at 30 seconds. The 7 second AM312 will spoil you.

@@digiblurDIY I got my AM312 down to 1 second. I use that in the kitchen because I have power easily available there.
Hue sensors are 10 second cool down, but you pay a fortune for Hue. I guess you get what you pay for.
Still, 1 minute is better than 5 Tuya have.

    Hey there,
I am struggling to get this running.
Every time the update is done, it looses wifi connecting.
I am using tasmotizer 1.2.1, i tried on windows and linux. I also tried NodeMCU flasher from windows. The flash itself is going as it should, no problem there. But the tasmota AP is only showing up shortly, and i cant connect to it. I tried several phones and computers, no luck. I even tried setting the wifi within tasmotizer, also without any luck. The funny thing is when i flash with the normal tasmota firmware, without zigbee, everything is working, but obvious no zigbee function. I tried several versions of the firmware, but all zigbee versions ends with no wifi access. Have you seen that before?
My sonoff board is ver. 1.1 2020.02.28.

Have you tried to swap power cables or power supplies?

    • @perhansen79
      @perhansen79 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@digiblurDIY No, because I did not think that was the problem, as it worked with the normal tasmota version. I actually came a little closer to the end goal, with a workaround. I flashed with tasmota_lite version, and did a OTA to the zigbee version. That seemed to work okay... i think. Now i am stuck with a upgrade failed, when i select the ncp_uart-file. The console says something about "bootloader initialized failed" and right after that, the firmware upgrade fails. I tried all sort of commands in the console, before upgrading, but nothing helped. I am not sure, if its because of my workaround or not. When i run these commands "Backlog weblog 3; SetOption65 1; Module 75;" in the console i even get the zigbee map and pair button on the main page, but of course it says zigbee not started.
Thanks for you suggestion, I appreciate it.

If the uart file is failing that means it can't access the Zigbee chipset. It could be due to power supply issues or broken hardware.

Thanks for the video, extremely helpful. Did everything like you said and all working except the last step. After issuing the command "backlog rule 1...." to start the TCP server on port 8888, the log in console showed that the TCP:Starting TCP server on port 8888, RESULT ={"TCPStart":"Done"}. But after opening Zigbee HA in Home assistant and creating the serial device path using the line socket and adding the static IP, it throws Failed to Connect. Can you tell whats the issue here. By the way I am using the portable Home Assistant app. Thanks

Were you able to get Tasmota Zigbee to start as indicated in the guide?

@@digiblurDIY If you mean starting Tasmato Zigbee after flashing ncp_uart firmware, yes it rebooted after XMD:Successful

Test it in Tasmota Zigbee to make sure the chipset works.

Thanks for your video I followed the steps and everything went fine, all devices worked great for several days. However I had an separate issue with my Wi-Fi and decided to change the 2.4ghz channel from 8 to 1 and for some reason all my Wi-Fi devices dropped off and had to be re-connected, even though the SSID & password hadn't changed. Now i can't connect to my ZB Bridge until i reconfigure its Wi-Fi, so my question is how can i reset it back to AP mode? on my RF bridge it was 6 power cycles within 10 seconds to reset, is there anything similar on the ZB Bridge or do I need to re-flash to get back to Wi-Fi setup? I did swap my Wi-Fi back to its original channel but no joy, resetting the ZB Bridge is the only outstanding problem, I would appreciate any assistance.

The power recovery process is still the same. I would suggest in the future to put both wifi configs in the tasmota device as well as turning on wificonfig 2 when switching networks.

@@digiblurDIY wow what a rapid response, thank you. I'm new to Tasmota but I eventually found 6 rapid presses of the reset button put it into AP mode and I was able to re-connect to my Wi-Fi. As for the SSID issue, previously I found that some devices required a space at the end of my SSID to connect, my PIi's for example, others didn't. I don't know if this a Linux thing or my xiaomi router, however by changing the 2.4ghz channel seems to have removed the need for the space so those devices failed to re-connect. very strange but i now know the issue and all is good. Many thanks for your support and very informative videos.

Will zigbee devices keep on working if, for whatever reason, HASS is down with this setup? So if the Raspberry with hass shuts down... will I be able to switch the lights still?

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The light switches will still work but of course not remotely unless you had like a button bound to a light then that button would still work.
