The Pearson broadhead at the very bottom of the screenshot were what came in a recurve bow "kit" I got for a Christmas gift 50 years ago. Cedar shafts and a 40 pound pull. Never got to try one on game. The bow and any arrows have been lost to time.
I was looking for something like this before season to launch from my crossbows. Magnus didnt have these yet, so i got the crimson talon clevers. Shot great. My daughter shot an 8 point thru the spine right below us. Dropped him in his tracks. Quick file and little strop and it was back in the quiver. I will look at these when my clevers wear out. But will be a few years..
Those are very solid heads. I shot a mature buck through the shoulder with one due to the shot angle was slightly quartering to. I was impressed, especially it being less than $30 for the 3 pack.
I get brass inserts from eBay of various weights and up to super heavy for high FOC arrows. Then you can use lighter wt. broadheeads and still have massive FOC. The inserts also strengthen the front end of the arrow quite a lot.

Hey Ranch-Fairy, have you heard of Abowyer broadheads? They make quite a few different single bevel heads. Has the foundation ever tested them? I am in love with their 190gr "Antelope" curved head, its 2"L x 1.25"W. And although i would like to see them made a little thicker and of harder steel, I've never had the edges chatter unless the shaft gets buried in rough soil.
I thought Mike’s stance was that Magnus would never make a single bevel, and that a single bevel would never be as sharp as a double bevel. I love Magnus products, and would have held out for these, had I known that Magnus was going to make singles. Great customer service too. Everything that I killed with a Magnus head died, within 10 to 20 yards of the shot - so unreal.
Does anyone know what type of steel is used to make these? I was thinking about going for Samurai 200 grain single bevel for the extra 50 grains of weight and a sharper angled broadhead but they are made of 440C stainless steel. Anyone know if that type of stanless steel is any good, or what these magnus single bevels are made with?
Question for Troy. I noticed that you have switched gears from being a proponent of complete pass throughs because it gives you a better blood trail and it does not scare the animal by flopping around as it runs away. I prefer a pass through especially when shooting from a tree stand so I get a blood trail to follow otherwise with a high hit I may not get much if any blood until the blood starts coming out of the deer's nose. Keep up the great work.
Funny how compound bowhunters in the speed world start staggering and falling over when someone suggests they get away from 100 grain broadheads, skip 125 grains and jump across the canyon to 150 grains, especially when 150 grains is considered light weight in the traditional world of archery. The first deer I killed with an arrow was back in the 1980's with a broadhead called the "Butterfield Brute". It weighed 180 grains with aluminum insert and had the same shape as this video shows on the Magnus. Arrow system weighed 700 grains. I was on the ground and buck came past me and turned hard quartering away right before I released. Complete pass thru diagonally centering the liver. Found the buck the next morning about 100 yards from where I shot it. If you compare this shape broadhead to a Zwickey Delta, you can see why the wider tip design has much greater resistance to bending on bone impact. .06 thickness and the single bevel completes the ensemble for the Magnus.
I saw a review yesterday on these heads. He gave a link to email Magnus about adding new weights to the line up. I would love to see a 175 and 200 grain head so I don't have to biuld new arrows.
Can CONFIRM they will replace it if it breaks. I had a Stinger Buzzcut break and it didn't seem to hit anything very hard that I know of, it passed through the deer and was only a few inches in the dirt. When I pulled it out it was in two pieces. Only this one broke out of several I've used. I emailed Magnus and when I got an email back he was acting like I must have been lying that its impossible for it to have broken without hitting anything hard he still sent me a replacement, so I was happy about that. I wouldn't just assume people are lying though when sometimes shit happens and it is 100% possible that mine had a manufacturing defect, to act like this is an impossibility is ridiculous. I work in CNC Manufacturing and I can tell you not every part is created equal, no matter how close you attempt to make them alike sometimes there are defects. I just ordered these Single Bevel Broadheads and I'm looking forward to using them this weekend!
You don't need left bevel heads with left helical fletch. It makes no difference. The fletchings don't create enough torque to make one lick of difference once the broadhead makes contact with a target/animal.
I would say if speaking about that broadhead specifically, 25 grains and a lifetime warranty instead of a 12 month warranty, based on what the sites say for both. The GS doesn’t come in a 150, just 125 and 200. Apples to apples really, and archers preference I would think more than anything. All look like good broadheads. I like the warranty difference personally and this would allow me to not have to put a 50gr brass insert in my arrows for hunting, if I want to switch back and forth between target and hunting setups with the same arrows. I like the idea. Can’t wait to try them.
GS has more angle. They say it makes it sharper. But down side is it chips easily when it hits hard objects. For 3x the cost. Not worth it IMO. Go Magnus. They will probably also offer replacement blades. GS does not.
I switched to the hornets because the stingers bend easily. I should probably send them in for warranty, but that’s no fun. These single bevels look nice, but I prefer a 125 head. I enjoy shooting at longer distances and don’t like switching back and forth between different arrows since it screws up my sight tape. Question: will he make them with bleeders at some point?
@@RanchFairy well, it would be the only magnus offering that I haven’t purchased. I’ve done way too much tinkering, but I’ve stuck with magnus exclusively for hunting. Late to comment on this video … but also late to bow hunting and have found your videos , as well as the hunting public , and have gotten my first compound . Have you done any testing on crimson talon single bevel broadheads?
The shape of those new magnus mirrors a ton of the native american flint arrowheads I've seen. I think they knew a little about fatality of broadheads because they survived. My question is can i use that new magnus head on a crossbow bolt that is flying 380 fps? it will kill.
that's your responsibility to find arrows that fly. Not much to blame the broadhead companies. Look up "ranch fairy crossbow" on you tube. Buddy of my did a whole series on tuning bolts.
Yeah I always recommend the Draggin' Deer you tube videos when folks ask about how to get fixed blades to behave on crossbow bolts. As long as your cams are properly timed, it is the spine alignment/nock tuning of your bolts that determines your arrow flight. Also, after you nock tune you need to go back and shoot through paper again with various weight heads to find the head weight that flies best with your set up. A bolt flying sideways (nock high or low) defeats the purpose of higher weight, speed, and FOC. If it isn't flying straight it will lever on impact redirecting your momentum.
Do i see an arrow with fletching in the front near the tip there? I've had an idea to make an arrow like that (in addition to back fletching) and see how it flies for a long time now.
It's an example for people I use during talks. Most people don't understand aerodynamic lift. Fixed blades lift. But you put fletching on the front of an arrow and "POOF" they get it.
Ok I have a question concerning so called " adult arrows" How do we decide when the arrow is too heavy . For instance, I am shooting a 40 lb long bow, now I am shooting small game so weight isn't that important , but I'm told 10 to 12 grams per pound . Well that is only 400 to 480 grains. I do have a couple of arrows I just built that are around 520 grains . There is alot more drop than I am used to if I were to go after Mule Deer with it. What's your input on this. I am thinking of going to 45 to 50 lbs if I get serious about it.
How would these do on a currently 540 grain arrow build being pushed by a 68# 29.5 dl draw compound you think? Would push my arrows to 590 grains with that head but man those look sweet!
Troy, I'm very interested in how these will fire from my Excalibur crossbow. I'm shoot a 500-grain Zombie Hunter arrow but want to get away from shoot mechanicals for next season.
Hey man was on google and saw that Easton sells a 6 mm FMJ and was wondering if you could experiment with them buy putting some heavy inserts in them and tell us how they hold up to putting a lot of weight up front
Since you own them. NO. BTW - that's the worst arrow on earth. Literally. Yup - I don't care what the paid hunters who don't believe in heavy arrows.....but shoot a heavy FMJ>>>>>say. I mean, they don't know what the hell they are talking about but.... worst arrow ever.
I usually sharpen blocks of steel or obsidian and attach a telephone pole to it to avoid the new technology also. A mechanical that has the same cut diameter as this hunk of steel while it's closed with a 50-100g brass insert behind it, yeah, just ignore that for some 1890s tech.

This is awesome, I can’t wait add them to my setup. Will there be field-tips to compliment these beasts?
Late to comment on this video … but also late to bow hunting and have found your videos , as well as the hunting public , and have gotten my first compound . Have you done any testing on crimson talon single bevel broadheads?

You want to buy China
Or 100% USA - Magnus
I cant choose between the Serrated or non Serrated..
Are they gonna make a 200gr

See my latest videos with Dr Ed ashby. There are 4 of them
How would these do on a currently 540 grain arrow build being pushed by a 68# 29.5 dl draw compound you think? Would push my arrows to 590 grains with that head but man those look sweet!
I used magnus for ome season. It was the stinger. And they all bent hitting ribs on a whitetail. So i went to iron will after that.
Dude Mike is awesome Great guy!
Troy, I'm very interested in how these will fire from my Excalibur crossbow. I'm shoot a 500-grain Zombie Hunter arrow but want to get away from shoot mechanicals for next season.
look up ranch fairy cross bow tuning.
start with great bolt flight. You might also buy some Sirius Phoenix Bolts with 100 grain insert.
@@RanchFairy for sure will look into it and those bolts. I also have a TS380 from Barnett I may want to see if I can tune these with as well.
Suppossibly these are out but I'm not finding them on their website?
Soon
Surated vs plan edge?
I shoot a single bevel broadhead from Grizzly Stik that looks almost identical to the Magnus. I've had very good results with it
Will it work on 45 lbs compound bow and a Barnett Predator crossbow 1st generation?😅
I don't see why not
What is the price gonna be
Hey man was on google and saw that Easton sells a 6 mm FMJ and was wondering if you could experiment with them buy putting some heavy inserts in them and tell us how they hold up to putting a lot of weight up front
Since you own them.
NO. BTW - that's the worst arrow on earth.
Literally. Yup - I don't care what the paid hunters who don't believe in heavy arrows.....but shoot a heavy FMJ>>>>>say. I mean, they don't know what the hell they are talking about but....
worst
arrow
ever.
Any idea if they will come out with bleeders for these or am I missing the point?
@@christopherhyde_06
Unlikely
Troy is there a preference for the blade mounted flat or vertical with a 2 blade single bevel ? Either better for flight?
When can we buy them??? Not seeing them on the Magnus site!
So what's the difference in design from the Grizzly Stick Maasai besides the tip?
Its a broadhead and screws onto an arrow.
I usually sharpen blocks of steel or obsidian and attach a telephone pole to it to avoid the new technology also. A mechanical that has the same cut diameter as this hunk of steel while it's closed with a 50-100g brass insert behind it, yeah, just ignore that for some 1890s tech.

Failure of your mechanical broadhead system will make you eat this comment one day.
Troy@ranchfairy.com when that happens, you won’t have to tell anyone we spoke. But I’ll help you.
Do you recommend these out of a 58-60 lbs bow? I can’t really go past that with my arthritic elbows
