This is all interesting but id venture that if you could get a higher FOC arrow with the same weight it would perform better in the pen test. And probably better then its heavy counterpart. FOC is king.

This was a great test.

Grape vine or other local limb much better, zero chance to spook any deer, natural smell. Rope scrapes can educate deer that somethings different here. Yes they can weather, and the local deer get used to them. But the travelling bucks may double take on them. Thoughts?

Thanks for the reminder that trad is continually difficult.I've had a rough week at it.

Theres a lot of influential guys out there loosing their credibility because they cant understand this simple problem. They double down swearing that heavier arrows penetrate more and dont bother doing the test to varify it. Thanks for sharing the truth.

All of these guys 100% play the wind religiously under all occasions, my questions is for all but Donn, what’s the point of doing all that and only hunting the wind? I’m a Scentlok guy and I believe in it, and try to hunt the proper wind as much as possible, but if it’s an iffy wind and I need to be somewhere, I go there and it hasn’t burnt me yet🤷🏻‍♂️ And I’ve killed 7.5 year old bucks 2 of the last 3 years in public land in Pennsylvania

Bobby is really an interesting guy. Would be so cool to just scout one day with him.

The heavy arrow difference is in animals. You’re shooting something designed to stop projectiles, what did you think was gonna happen? No animal on earth is the consistency of that block, there is no comparison at all. This isn’t that hard to wrap your head around.

Speaking as an engineer, you are missing a whole aspect to your test. What is the penetration difference at 20, 30, 40, and 60 yds. I will tell you, mathematically, the heavier arrow surpasses the lighter arrow at some point. The lighter arrow will slow down faster. You could also go to the extreme and go really light vs heavy. A better test is the spine of the arrow. A more flexible arrow with a poor balance will deflect more at impact. A well tuned bow makes a huge difference. If the back of the arrow is not directly behind the front of the arrow you will experience deflection on impact. Have you ever had an arrow crooked in a target?

I’m not the drills, the elevated shots make a difference. Also best if you can use your saddle, or stand. Go through setting it up and becoming familiar with it so when you go in the woods there is no issues or surprises.

What I see is the 3 days leading up to the full moon and the full moon seems when I see the most activity from big bucks in staging areas around scrapes

Do this same test but test the penetration at 60 yards. This is beyond most hunting appications i know.

But the price has to be a factor can buy double the hornets for price of 3 iron wills both have lifetime warranty

I ordered the limited edition leather bound. I’d ordered the hardback but canceled it to order the limited edition. I feel it is worth it and I don’t mind at all supporting Bobby & his family. I will have all 3 of Bobby’s books and I’ll never let them go. Can’t wait until this book comes in. If I had any advise to new deer hunters I would save my money on deer hunting tools/gimmicks and invest in knowledge. I always remember Bobby’s quote “A used deer trail in the woods may not amount to much, but a heavily traveled deer trail in a tight funnel means everything.” There is so much to take away from his books and the way Mr. Bobby explains it makes so much sense and it clicks. You just have to put the effort in! Thank you Bobby for releasing your final book, and thank you Mr. Joe Miles for giving the avenue to release it!
