I have to say in a blind test I picked the DJI V1 Nebula Pro. Then I noticed my stream was at 480p, so I set it to 4K and that changed my choice to the DJI O3. I have no skin in the game so I'm not biased, in fact I would rather support Avatar than DJI, but it looks like they are still behind in terms of image quality.
This is great news!!! I’m absolutely going with the pro on my next project, low light is a huge deal for me especially when the days get short. I’m so excited that walksnail are doing such a bang up job !!!
For a few-hour-rush vid this is quite excellent value! One thing we constantly miss from those video link comparisons however is how their break-up behaviour is and how latency drops over distance/disturbance. A lot of peeps for example find, that the O3 is much more consistent in latency... and while higher on the bench, since it keeps it much more stable, in reality it's a lower latency link than the Vista/Air Unit. And you can see it in the results - like PhantomFPV suddenly and finally making those tower/chimney dives or Limon actually flying it on his Open Racer whenever he can. It is also said, that HDZ 90fps mode seems to have higher penetration than their higher quality link options... stuff I'd really really really love to see in a scientific test scenario. Any hopes that you could come up with such a test? :)
Great coverage of Avatar V2. I'm still on V1 goggles and airunit/vista and never upgraded to V2/2 goggles or O3 and likely will not do so with how far Caddx/Avatar is progressing. I would add that another con to DJI O3 is the encrypted log files generated that are currently not user readable which is uploaded to the mothership DJI when using the DJI assistant software. That is a privacy violation on O3 since we don't know what is being sent to DJI. I don't have Avatar yet - but I suspect they don't upload encrypted log files.
Even at 2x zoom I kept thinking that the V2 Pro image was coming from O3, and the Nebula Pro image was coming from the V2 Pro. They are really close to each other!
Nice summary. I was mntally disagreeing with you about the conclusion until I gave you time to complete your sentence. it is not the best at any one thing, but it does a pretty good job at all. Jack of all trades and master of none, is more often better than a master of one. (frequently misquoted by omission)
The way my DJI goggles fit my face despite numerous mods is painful, and made me prefere analog despite the image qulity. When I got the HDz goggles it was bye bye DJI, only using them with my scout drone DJI FPV (love it for exploration), now I have the Fatshark avatar goggle with fantastic fit and god image quality with only 1g weight penalty over hdzero in 1s, I'm in love
Watching in 4k and I paused it before the cam reveals and thought the two on the right seemed to look best, top right the tower looked the best but has some smudgy looking foliage, bottom right the tower looked slightly hazy compared to top right, but less smudgy in foliage - possibly focused at different range idk. I don't have a trained eye for what all to look for by any means. I don't own DJI, and still have my sealed WS VRX for months now that I'll try out some day when I get time. I've just been flying the 90fps HDZero cam and really enjoying that with the time I currently have.
One advantage that the Vista has is the built in receiver. If you like the DJI version 1 TX then its a no brainer to just drop a Vista in and setup SBUS and you are good to go with no receiver needed.
I find the most important metric to me is range and penetration. I really like to fly in areas with lots of trees, I'm skeptical that anything can complete with DJI in this regard, but I'd love to stop getting DJI, everything else about Walksnail seems ideal for hobbiests. Please do a range / penetration comparison before I upgrade from DJI v1 to DJI o3!
I would say the O3 has the best image quality, good contrast and good brightness with the V2 Pro coming in second, having worse image quality, but also good contrast and even better brightness for low-light conditions. The main difference I see between the Avatar V2 Pro and the Avatar V2 and Nebula Pro is that the latter two seem quite a bit darker with potentially worse visibility in low-light situations.
Id like to see a test where you put the new v2 up to 800w on the VTX with out the heat sync and see how it performs and for how long on the bench and in the air. Not worth doing unless you know the results. I wonder what the longevity is gonna be like when you remove the components that help keep the heat in check.
Would have liked to see a Polar (full-size) vs the V2 Pro in low light. Also, in that case the Polar/Vista is cheaper. * (* Price doesn't matter across incompatible platforms, as you couldn't buy a cheaper V2 cam/VTX and use it with DJI goggles/transmitter.) BTW, that V2 Pro Sony Starvis sensor appears to be the same as that used on low-mid end dashcams.
If you manually adjust the shutter speed and iso of the 03 camera, it performs so much better then auto in lower light situations. The image goes from very dark to looking really good.
@@doom3crazy to be honest I am not a camera guy but if I am flying on cloudy days or when it’s darker, I just lower the shutter speed until it looks nice and it works great. I was flying yesterday and there was thick cloud cover and the auto settings and the shutter speed somewhere around 800 and I lowered it to between 300 and 400 and it made all the difference in the world.
Personally, i strap a Samsung A52 phone to my drone that has MotionCam installed for lower light situations. MotionCam is RAW images and has the option to reduce noise with stacking. It takes sometime to process and the files are huge but it beats having mors noise in the fottage
Hey Chris, don't take this as an offense but this review somehow doesn't seem as fact-based as your usual videos. There are several things that raise questions. 1. Depth of the mounting threads The depth of a thread should always be at least equal to the thread diameter. With a pitch of 0.5 mm, a maximum depth of 1.5 mm can be achieved with 2-3 turns. This is definitely too little for an M3 thread. 2. Filming in low light Since the aperture is fixed in the O3/Avata system and the shutter speed depends on the selected frame rate, it is up to the ISO value to compensate for the lighting conditions. Which setting was used for the comparison shown here? A fixed value or was the automatic activated? 3. Range and penetration The biggest advantages of the DJI O3 Air Unit over the Avatar system have always been range and penetration. However, these values are not compared here at all. Please don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not a DJI fanboy and usually I totally dig your videos but this one seems kind of... bought.
Would be nice if you would have all 4 cameras at a set mount so that they move at the same speed. Also maybe then comparison freese frames both moving and still motion. Otherwise great job, thanks for the information
having seen them before, it was pretty easy to discern all 4 systems in the blind test it might have been helped by the logical order you placed them in, a random position might have made it more difficult while the O3 image quality is clearly supperior, the WS Pro looks better than both V2 and Vista the higher resolution sensor "supersampling" makes the image look less pixelated I've also noticed my Nebula Pro being focused quite close, while the quad was sitting on a lawn, the ground ~2m away was in focus, while trees in the distance were a bit blurry in comparison that might be something to check for each of these cameras
Really looking forward to testing my newly installed Walksnail avatar HD but could not bind with DJI goggles, turns out caddx only works with caddx unless you have the polar vista which only works with DJI goggles on an older software update so beware…now using O3.
I'm curious where Walksnail development will go. V2 capabilities already look veeeeery tempting as next step above DJI V2 + Vista. The only question is what to do with my remaining analog quads, particularly Mobula 7 whoops.
Thank you for your great video, only want to address this recomendation you made: "I think in every way is better than the Vista... a Slam Dunk" I think of a few were the Vista is better: - LongRange - Latency - Stronger Signal (in places were there is signal interference like urban) - Has RX included - Way more mature system Other than that was awesome, keep up the great work. Could the new Caddx Pro Camera be compatible with Vista or O3? Best regards.
Ok I can certainly agree with some of those points. For me personally: -DJI has a hard range limit. WS Avatar doesn't so I think it's better for long range. - Latency, WS Avatar is just as fast as DJI to full frame in 720p100 no advantage to DJI there any more. - Penetration might be an area where DJI is still ahead if unlocked to 1000/1200mW. - Included RX is useful if you've already got the DJI controller. If not ELRS is a better choice. - I think the vista is on the brink of being completely abandoned. We were super lucky to get forwards compatibility with Goggles 2 (at the expense of the V1 goggles) but the longevity of the vista is super questionable given DJIs approach to old products. WS Avatar seems to be keeping backwards compatibility with everything. No one should be buying in to Vista's today and expecting new hardware for the system going forwards. I don't think Caddx will be supporting the Vista going forwards in any way. They can't even buy the VTX any more. They'll sell what they have but I think as a platform it's on the way out.
-Of course, up to 12km and then avatar picks up with no limitations -Ok, but if you don't do agressive freestyle or if you do long range, it doesnt matter until it is below 100ms -Tested, but not too much, no difference in side-by-side comparsion -What does that mean? -Which makes you follow many rules, makes you pay more for less, in order 'to just have it'. Dji is a girlfriend.
- 12km of strong and reliable signal is more than enough (for me), its true that WS has no limitations in paper but in the "real world", in a scenario with "signal interferences" I dont think that WS can even get to 12km anyway. - While they might the same in paper, I think DJI performs better (for me). - No reply needed here. - It means that with a Caddx Vista you dont need an additional rx receiver from another company, this specially good in areas were you need strong signal like urban areas. I had to change all of Crossfire receivers because of this serious problem (cellphone towers) and started to rely on the Vistas rx receiver, all my quads works flawlessly now and I dont have to spend more money on receivers or live in fear of failsafe LOL. this is a huge plus for me and WS is just a VTX. - More for less? come on lets be real here boys haha. While Caddx Vista (DJI Air Unit Mini) its on his way out for Caddx, Runcam its still selling the same "DJI Air Unit Mini" product with another name, this product is a mature/finished product that doesnt need more updates and works like a charm. WS in the other hand its an inferior and unfinished product that to this date its has issues (for me). DJI even made it compatible with the new Goggles 2. DJI its a hot and "useful" girlfriend yeahhh :)
@@hknight007 I respect your opinion, but in my own - there is not that much diefference was already at the freshly new start of the WS, while dji is ok, shitty, but finished and polished product. I would say that vista is in any way more stable at that range (up to 12km). My vista feed starts dropping at 4km with well positioned antennas. I must mention that we have crowded 5.8bandwidth in here. Also, at some spots i have drops down to 5mbps at 1km. And same with avatar, no difference. I mean, there may be a differece in digits of how soon it dropped, how far maybe ,or down to 6mpbs or 4 mbps, but there is no practical difference in both systems. This is only my conclusion based on my experience in my country and in my conditions.
@@sunnyfpv3694 I also respect your opinion and its exactly as you said for me because the "DJI AirUnits" are better for me in the tests that I've performed in different areas of my country. Best regards and happy flying
I'm testing a solution with the new Raspberry Pi 64 MP camera to stream video over 5G. The Sixfab kit supports up to 1Gbps uplink and 6Gbps downlink speeds, you can stream HDR 4K - and at any distance.
Great stuff dude. Much appriociated. I had a qq, if you dont mind. Would this work as an onboard camera? Just hit 'record,' go RC around and hit 'end recording' when im done. No transmission or anything like that. Just like a dashcam but for my RC car. Again, appriciated the in depth review.
I picked dji nebula but they were close. Anyways I would like to see a comparison between HD zero or analog to the Walksnail for night flying. In your past videos analog was way better for night than all digital. So I already knew DJI would fail miserably.
I was able to tell all of them except which one was avatar v1 and 2. I am gonna say until walksnail is providing the same latency ans range as dji air unit/[air unit lite , vista, link etc] I can't consider it....If you look at this graph it looks like a small difference. But to me its enough of a difference. I do hope it does well though.
For 139 bucks per quad. I don't plan on using the gyro so no need for it. Still gonna run a go pro. 03 looks nice but still need a proper cam for professional stuff. I'm just getting back into it so I'm pretty sure I'm grabbing the fat sharks.
in the night: Polar 19mm. Daytime: what your budget prefers. overall the: O3 because you dont need a action camera any more. DJI still ahead, but they come closer. i cant see the night cap. over the polar in this short video and there were lights involved. i fly in really no light in view areas and the polar is so far the night king. lets see.
@@doccock100 i understand, there will be a point of decision when it goes to small 2s 1S whoops. i dont use them anymore, because i switched to naked Action 3 capable 4inch tube frame. still can fly up to 7min surprising speed.
I fly polar too at almost pitch dark night (park/beaches with no lamp post), just light from far away restaurant. but from madstech test imho this walksnail camera will ditch polar far away.
I'm not buying 500 dollar goggles or whatever to switch from dji to walksnail avatar, but what I would do is purchase a sony starvis camera from caddx for the O3 systems I'm going to buy!
@@agtjackbauer It's directly comparing the prices of the vtx's as if most pilots have the liberty of choosing which vtx they buy. A walksnail pilot cannot just get an o3 cause they need goggles. And same for me as a dji pilot. It does make sense for analogue pilots who haven't bought digital yet as they can make their decision before they've bought into one of the systems.
Very exciting developments indeed, as IMO ths orginal Avatar HD cam's poor sensor performance really took away a lot from the system. Like many others I'm also keen for a review of whether the new VTX improves penetration and image quality.
Hello Chris, thanks for this awesome video. I am rewatching it but can't find if and where you talk about the 3/4 ratio for the new cameras. I am using 1- avatar VTX with a fatshark HDO v1 with 2- the early walksnail with standard camera and the one with the micro camera.. I don't like the stretched image so much, so would one of the new cameras solve my issue (I don't want to see a stretched image) ?
WOW that DJI O3 image quality is great! I want to buy one but I need to do more research. The other 3 are great too! Am I right that O3 cannot have 4k recording while dvr is 1080? I remember reading a thread saying there were issues. However, I could be mixing up issues since it's been a while when I last read it.
First off, the DVR would be recording in 4k and you could be flying in 1080p in your Goggles 2. I haven't heard of any issues doing this. Yes, 03 is still the leader of the pack!
@@KOrnhOliO1 Got it. I think they were saying some issues in recording specifically if I recall correctly, they were saying you can't mix-match these resolutions. That's awesome if it's working well. Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade to it. I'm still on DJI v1
Walksnail sure feels a lot more user friendly and the good compatibility is a sign that Walksnail will not make current Walksnail goggles obosolete anytime soon. But the barrier to switch from DJI is quite high if you factor in the price of new goggles.
I assume Walksnail and HDZero will continue to improve their systems and get better over time, as DJI other than constant newer goggles being sold the system is basically where it will always be, with no more advancement in that area . SO time will tell who is who and what is what, but me, I fly analog anyway and have not even considered HD anything
hi chris . if you have the older v1 without gyroflow and you purchase v2 with gyro flow..then u decide to mix and match camer/vtx..my question ::: is the gyroflow hardware in the camera or vtx.thanks
Yes, new cameras work with old VTX and old cameras work with new VTX. The main differences are that some of the new cameras have gyros and the new VTX has better packaging and a 32GB storage option.
hey Chris, the recording quality of dji o3 is in my better than that of avatar v2, however how is the difference when using hdzero googles with walksnail and dji google 2 ?
Do u know if u can get longer cables for either of these ? I know they sell them in AliExpress for the older models but not sure if they fit the newer models
I am not sure if this has helped me or not - It seems to be in conflict to what I was thinking coming in so I have to adjust to the new info. I would want to ask since it was not specifically called out in the video is how is the image quality in the different goggles - I have DJI V2's and I love how clear and detailed everything is when I fly. I am also confident that the image in the HD Zero goggles is going to be better than the DJI V2's. I am not sure if that is true for the DJI Goggles 2 (do i have their stupid names right? I have the older ones which i called the V2's...) Anyway I am also not up to speed on the quality or performance of the Walksnail goggles so that is also something to consider. I do want to ultimately get to a lower latency system and I sometimes regret not getting the HD Zero system when I bought in as I just bought in last October. So I guess the question is do the Walksnail goggles hold a candle to the HD Zero, have they solved thier break up issues, etc... can you use the Walksnail goggles to watch videos, etc... that would be nice. Now should we also consider the VTX goggle accessories that Walksnail and HD Zero both make? Are they as good as the goggles they make with the integrated VTX when it comes to the componentry, the features, the performance? Ugh, there really is a lot to think about but I do feel that the VTX add on's are just that - an add on which often means compromise. Your videos are excellent, very measured and informative, I enjoyed watching this one and a few others by you today as well. Thanks for the great work.
Yes its a compromise. I just got the walksnail system and love it but when I go back to analog am like dam this is much better. Latency is so much better on analog kinda wish I gotten hdzero
Hi, I am switching from analogue to digital FPV and need a little advice please. It certainly seems like a perfect go to for someone like myself. I would like to hear from any experienced guys out there regarding compatibility with binding to an all in one screen or the cheaper Eachine digital receivers or goggles? So is it limited to what we can view the feed on? Or will it bind to any 5.8GHz Goggles or portable screen? I only need signal for 300m as this will be fitted to a 1m class Sailboat for racing. I have a GoPro 8 as my main DVR. - Im saving money to be able to purchase a set of Dominator v2.0 and would like to secure this kit before the world goes completely insane... But being able to use a cheaper screen/goggles in the meantime?. Thanks heaps in advance, Take care, From Australia.
I will mount a flight controller upside down Now I gave 180 degree on roll axis this is ok. Now if I want to change the yaw axis with inverted placement then should I give the value of the direction in which I want to change or should I give the opposite value?
I'm looking forward to the 1080p30 HDZero. Personally I'm trying to fly freestyle not peep in a neighbors window and HDZ will probably have comparable latency probably lower at 1080 for if I want to fly some slow cruising or long range and it can get the absolute best performance. It's really seeming like the best option more and more and for me the only option that will get me off analog.
@@jtroutt19 Been flying analog at 30fps for years haven't had any issues even so 30fps and lower latency is better than variable latency and a pretty picture.
@@thirtythreeeyes8624 to each their own man. I dont race so latency isnt a big deal for me. I have no issues dealing with the variable latency. I know people that have huge issues with it though likes makes them sick. Im a sucker for image quality in goggle. And to get that i will deal with the negatives.
If you are not counting the camera and the onboard recording + gyro. Is there a reason to get the V1 walksnail VTX? Are the dual antennas for penetration better for like.. indoor flights?
Don't count on it. It wasn't even close before. Plus, the 1080p performance was pretty poor with Avatar, so poor that JB wouldn't even use it. So, that's something that needs to be critiqued.
@@sunnyfpv3694 Yeah, I and many, have been asking DJI to PLEASE get their Vista/Link board down to one small board for micros and whoops. That's the ONLY reason I can see to NOT go with DJI, except if you were a hard core competitive racer. Then, HDZero would be the way, and that's about all it's good for, LOL, unless you enjoy flying freestyle within about 30 meters. Because beyond that, those craZy harsh on your EYE BALLS colored sparklies are way too much for ANY NORMAL PERSON to handle! :( Many think HDZero has the same breakup as analog, but that's simply not true. It's colored, the sparklies are bigger, and they show up SUPER BRIGHT in their great OLED goggles. I just think HDZero's technology is way, WAY behind the other digital systems. It's why Fatshark gave up on it and through it in the trash.
@@KOrnhOliO1 Also, the range. If you want to chill flying an airplane, you wont be limited with ws as with dji. Also, the price - the lowest you can jump into digital now is 300 bucks if you already have an hdmi compatible googles. Also the osd. You cant have it in DJI unless you jailbreak it, and its been 2 years while dji said canvas osd is impossible due to hardware limitation. Also the resolution. Also the averall image quality. Really noticeable if compare side by side fpv v2 vs avatar. Also community requests. I think, walksnail considers the community opinion (Thats why we have everything almost out of box).
@@sunnyfpv3694 For one, DJI can fly plenty far with an airplane...I just don't see the big deal about flying sooooo far away from yourself! Why? Cuz you can?! If DJI has a limit, that's the radius you can fly in, so you can fly that far in every direction....why is that a problem? or issue? I just don't get the up high in the air, long range flying! Boring as fuck to me! No obstacles, going up high in a straight line, if I ever did that, I'd be nervous about losing my quad, but if I wasn't so nervous, I think I'd fall asleep, from sheer boredom! You aren't doing anything with the sticks but flying in a straight line going far away! I just don't get how that can possibly be fun....maybe the anxiety and stress of possibly losing your quad makes it fun for some, but I just don't see that as fun! I thought the Walksnail VRX is $220. Are you not in the USA? Both the V2 and Goggles 2 from DJI have full Betaflight OSD. All VTX's. Have had for quite some time. Who cares how we get it...the instructions are like a Wizard to install a program on your PC. Easy as can be! You're right, the resolution and overall image clarity of DJI is still far superior to Walksnail, especially when you consider the DJI 03 air unit. It will record 4k/120fps on the built in 20gb storage of the on board DVR. All while flying with a crystal clear 1080P resolution in the OLED goggles. With V2 goggles, the resolution is 810P, which is still very clear. DJI can fly much, much farther from the pilot with that crystal clear image clarity even when flying low to the ground. It also breaks up much less that Walksnail does, even at a distance. Walksnail also had a problem with their 1080p, enough where JB doesn't even use 1080p because it has issues, and it's not any clearer. Hopefully they've finally figured it out with this new V2 system, but it's been that way since it came out, and JB says it really hasn't improved. It's really good to see Walksnail getting better and getting closer to what DJI gives pilots. More improvements is great for FPV! I love the size of the VTX's, and wish DJI would come out with a lightweight, one board solution for their FPV community! SERIOUSLY LACKING!
all things considered, avatar is the new king. I like HDZ but their IQ isnt there yet. O3 is great accept its dji and F dji so that leaves avatar. it used to kinda suck but its gotten way better, its cheaper, and they really do listen and improve their system constantly. this new lineup is killer. 20x20 and 4:3 are MASSIVE. 20x20 opens up almost any frame for bolt in install and 4:3 means awesome image for people with VRX on older 4:3 goggles like myself.
Hi Chris, I bought an AOS 3.5 V2 frame when they first dropped and a friend recently bought his AOS 3.5 V2 which has the bigger 03 mounting ability. I was quite shocked though to find that the entire frame is quite a bit bigger than mine, the top deck is about 1.5cm longer which has given him plenty of space for mounting. We both have a similar issue though where when mounting the stack up front, the camera mounting plates interfere with the 2 front stack screws. Do you have any suggestions because when i built mine, i ended up having to shave off some of the carbon which eventually snapped off completely. His newer and larger frame still interferes with the stack screws but he got away with then pressing against the nuts instead of shaving the carbon. This leaves the stack locked with no sideways freedom.
Great video with a huge amount of helpful info. How does the low light capability compare to HDZero cameras? For my use case this is an important question. Also, you say this would be the only video sytem you would use, but would you race it if you were trying to be competitive?
For racing HDZero is the only system I'd use. I mainly fly freestyle so I'm less sensitive to latency and want the better image quality, range and penetration. I would say HDZero cameras also do well in low light but I haven't side by side compared them.
@@ChrisRosser Sounds good. Thanks for the response. It would be really interesting to see HDZero and the new Avatar Pro camera compared side by side at night.
@@doccock100 indeed it is but then you need a very good picture quality video to match that otherwise it might be useless. It's mainly used to stabilise cinematic material. O3 is almost there but not as good as naked gopro.
Blind test, I went right to the AV2. I love my 1S boards...stripping the 6S is fricken amazing for my toothpick builds. WS interchangeable parts is just dunking on DJI.
I am still confused how to set FPS with my DJI O3 + Googles 2 ? Is it the "video record" settings or some different hidden one? And if so, which of 100 fps should I chose, can I choose 4k/100 or the lowest latency is for example only for 1080/100 ?? Thanks for any advise.
Yes it's in the camera record setting. Resolution of recording doesn't affect latency only frame rate. So 4k/100 is the same as 1080p/100 for latency. Don't use 120fps with the goggles 2 as it's only 60fps in the goggles!
There is a bad compromise wrt image quality in all of these systems: Pilot needs VS DVR footage. For the latter you want realistic colors, low noise etc. For the pilot you want rather something like a Runcam Phoenix image appearance. High, even artifical contrast, edge enhancement etc. Look at the night footage of the O3 vs Avatar. Nobody wants to use such a noisy image for video. Maybe use eg 10-12bit cameras to create a pilot and a DVR Version of the footage. Or go away with this claim to have DVRs replacing action cameras. I see both companies on a doomed pathway to do 2in1 without the needed cameras and processing.
Curious that they went to a single antenna. Are we to assume that they’ve tested and determined That diversity antenna’s provided no advantage??? Or was this a weight savings trade off? We need an explanation.
Yes in terms of image quality DJI V1 < Avatar V2 < O3 < Go Pro.

HDZero 90 is awesome. It really does feel different!
Thank you for all the dense information!
Best review of the v2 yet!
Great job, Chris.
Id like to see a test where you put the new v2 up to 800w on the VTX with out the heat sync and see how it performs and for how long on the bench and in the air. Not worth doing unless you know the results. I wonder what the longevity is gonna be like when you remove the components that help keep the heat in check.
Nice!! This system I'll put on my AOS7 build and analog on the Falcon 7. Just need them new digital googles!!
Would have liked to see a Polar (full-size) vs the V2 Pro in low light. Also, in that case the Polar/Vista is cheaper. *
(* Price doesn't matter across incompatible platforms, as you couldn't buy a cheaper V2 cam/VTX and use it with DJI goggles/transmitter.)
BTW, that V2 Pro Sony Starvis sensor appears to be the same as that used on low-mid end dashcams.
I'd like to see v2 vs polar also
Holy shit. The twilight footage of the V2 pro is awesome.
Excellent video Mr Rosser.
If you manually adjust the shutter speed and iso of the 03 camera, it performs so much better then auto in lower light situations. The image goes from very dark to looking really good.
What settings do you suggest?
I'll have to give that a go!
madstech did that in his video i think
@@doom3crazy to be honest I am not a camera guy but if I am flying on cloudy days or when it’s darker, I just lower the shutter speed until it looks nice and it works great. I was flying yesterday and there was thick cloud cover and the auto settings and the shutter speed somewhere around 800 and I lowered it to between 300 and 400 and it made all the difference in the world.
@@doccock100 Madstech set it to 30 FPS lol, I am complaining Polarvista 60FPS and want me to fly 30fps at night? too much for me.
Personally, i strap a Samsung A52 phone to my drone that has MotionCam installed for lower light situations. MotionCam is RAW images and has the option to reduce noise with stacking. It takes sometime to process and the files are huge but it beats having mors noise in the fottage
Hey Chris,
don't take this as an offense but this review somehow doesn't seem as fact-based as your usual videos. There are several things that raise questions.
1. Depth of the mounting threads
The depth of a thread should always be at least equal to the thread diameter. With a pitch of 0.5 mm, a maximum depth of 1.5 mm can be achieved with 2-3 turns. This is definitely too little for an M3 thread.
2. Filming in low light
Since the aperture is fixed in the O3/Avata system and the shutter speed depends on the selected frame rate, it is up to the ISO value to compensate for the lighting conditions. Which setting was used for the comparison shown here? A fixed value or was the automatic activated?
3. Range and penetration
The biggest advantages of the DJI O3 Air Unit over the Avatar system have always been range and penetration. However, these values are not compared here at all.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not a DJI fanboy and usually I totally dig your videos but this one seems kind of... bought.
Jeeze O3 makes the avatar look like analog
Would be nice if you would have all 4 cameras at a set mount so that they move at the same speed. Also maybe then comparison freese frames both moving and still motion. Otherwise great job, thanks for the information
Walksnail is the way! :)
having seen them before, it was pretty easy to discern all 4 systems in the blind test
it might have been helped by the logical order you placed them in, a random position might have made it more difficult
while the O3 image quality is clearly supperior, the WS Pro looks better than both V2 and Vista
the higher resolution sensor "supersampling" makes the image look less pixelated
I've also noticed my Nebula Pro being focused quite close, while the quad was sitting on a lawn, the ground ~2m away was in focus, while trees in the distance were a bit blurry in comparison
that might be something to check for each of these cameras
Really looking forward to testing my newly installed Walksnail avatar HD but could not bind with DJI goggles, turns out caddx only works with caddx unless you have the polar vista which only works with DJI goggles on an older software update so beware…now using O3.
Also Mr. Rosser it would nice if your aos-7 frame description included that you need a longer cable than stock for the o3 camera to unit cable.
03's resolution and colors are better, but not sure if proportional to its price!
I'm curious where Walksnail development will go. V2 capabilities already look veeeeery tempting as next step above DJI V2 + Vista. The only question is what to do with my remaining analog quads, particularly Mobula 7 whoops.
Bro your frames are 🔥🔥🔥
might be interested if we ever get some flight audio on the digital systems, until then 100% analog for me
DJI O3 actually has ISO 25600 (can be manually set) for low light situations.
Did you use this in the test?
WTF….is this changed in the Google’s ??
Thank you for your great video, only want to address this recomendation you made:
"I think in every way is better than the Vista... a Slam Dunk"
I think of a few were the Vista is better:
- LongRange
- Latency
- Stronger Signal (in places were there is signal interference like urban)
- Has RX included
- Way more mature system
Other than that was awesome, keep up the great work.
Could the new Caddx Pro Camera be compatible with Vista or O3?
Best regards.
Ok I can certainly agree with some of those points. For me personally:
-DJI has a hard range limit.
-Of course, up to 12km and then avatar picks up with no limitations
-Ok, but if you don't do agressive freestyle or if you do long range, it doesnt matter until it is below 100ms
-Tested, but not too much, no difference in side-by-side comparsion
-What does that mean?
Best regards and happy flying
i swear 25.5x25.5 mounting and the dji mounting on the cam proves the manufacturers dont know what we need. i wanted to like it but dang.
I'm testing a solution with the new Raspberry Pi 64 MP camera to stream video over 5G. The Sixfab kit supports up to 1Gbps uplink and 6Gbps downlink speeds, you can stream HDR 4K - and at any distance.
Great review 😄
Fantastic review, Chris! Thanks! 😃
Really fantastic system! It gets better by the day!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I'm really glad there's a serious contended to the O3. Days of DJI's daylight robbery are coming to an end.
Why knock the company that revolutionized the hd market in fpv? Walksnail is just copying but I get what your saying.
Brilliant review! *SUBBED*
Have a nice holiday bruh!
So would the Walksnail system work for racing? Great video, thanks for sharing….
Cool the pro goin on my next build 😎
For 139 bucks per quad. I don't plan on using the gyro so no need for it. Still gonna run a go pro. 03 looks nice but still need a proper cam for professional stuff. I'm just getting back into it so I'm pretty sure I'm grabbing the fat sharks.
You also should consider that vista is very durable. It's a pity that you cannot say same for avatar.
in the night: Polar 19mm. Daytime: what your budget prefers. overall the: O3 because you dont need a action camera any more. DJI still ahead, but they come closer. i cant see the night cap. over the polar in this short video and there were lights involved. i fly in really no light in view areas and the polar is so far the night king. lets see.
Ahead at whoop and onboard recording?
Nobody's telling you to spend five hundred dollars and switch 😂 It's simply a video that shows off a new product and compares it to others.
Unfortunately, that would never work.
@@matthewbradley8971 Why not? They did it on the v1 system. Does the o3 block third party cameras?
@Defining Slawek It's for all pilots. All it is is information. It's up to the individual to decide what the information means to them.
I like that scale. Can you give me a link to the shop?
Very exciting developments indeed, as IMO ths orginal Avatar HD cam's poor sensor performance really took away a lot from the system. Like many others I'm also keen for a review of whether the new VTX improves penetration and image quality.
Why not compare it to the polar in the low light testing?
Hello Chris, thanks for this awesome video. I am rewatching it but can't find if and where you talk about the 3/4 ratio for the new cameras.
I am using
1- avatar VTX with a fatshark HDO v1
with
2- the early walksnail with standard camera and the one with the micro camera..
I don't like the stretched image so much, so would one of the new cameras solve my issue (I don't want to see a stretched image) ?
Are the 25.5x25.5 mounting bolts M1.6 or M2?
M2.
A night flyer. luckly i didnt put too much $$ into DJI eco system yet, still got time change to walksnail. I wish somebody compare it with polar vista
@Neil "NeilFPV" Camara you might be talking about 120fps causing latency issues vs 100fps
@@redcobra1246 maybe. I didn't pay attention too much because I don't have O3
New cameras works with V1 vtx with no problems? So the only difference between new and old VTXs aregps noise and gyro data? Right?
Yes, new cameras work with old VTX and old cameras work with new VTX. The main differences are that some of the new cameras have gyros and the new VTX has better packaging and a 32GB storage option.
I been meaning to do an indoor vista vs walksnail 1s mini and outdoors. My Vista goes blurry so fast. I'm about to try replacing antenna
Which 5.5" prop do you recommend for AOS?
How does the low light performance compare to HD Zero?
hey Chris, the recording quality of dji o3 is in my better than that of avatar v2, however how is the difference when using hdzero googles with walksnail and dji google 2 ?
Avatar swept everything
i really wonder how the range and penetration compares between the v1 and the v2 with a enhnaced antenna (according to caddx store page)
per JB video its not significantly better.
I have the older ones which i called the V2's...)
Anyway I am also not up to speed on the quality or performance of the Walksnail goggles so that is also something to consider.
Does this avata pro compatible with DJI goggles ?
It looks like the big brother does it still better!
Not at 30fps….
I just got the walksnail and when I go back to analog am like dam this is much better wish I had gotten hdzero
mr sir, can you tell me about what these are?
If you are not counting the camera and the onboard recording + gyro.
Is there a reason to get the V1 walksnail VTX? Are the dual antennas for penetration better for like.. indoor flights?
My only question is does this have much better range/penetration than DJI? That is one thing DJI did very well with....
Don't count on it. It wasn't even close before.
Plus, the 1080p performance was pretty poor with Avatar, so poor that JB wouldn't even use it.
So, that's something that needs to be critiqued.
If you are on the crossroads of choosing your system, i can name a few reasons not to choose dji. (I am fully dji'ed btw)
SERIOUSLY LACKING!
no hints about gyro data?
Will this work with my dji goggles v2?
all things considered, avatar is the new king.
You’re a wizard. How did you do this in 1 day??
It was a long one!
The only thing going for this new system is low light performance imho.
gyro on camera is nice
@@ChrisRosser Thank you!!
O3 > pro > vista > walk v2
May be cheaper but then I need another set of goggles too...
Curious that they went to a single antenna.
Are we to assume that they’ve tested and determined That diversity antenna’s provided no advantage???
Or was this a weight savings trade off? We need an explanation.
The 03 is still the best
Watch out, DJI! Your clone company continues to exist!
