    Just listened to the whole video. As a 29 year licensed Amateur Radio operator in the US, your information is spot on. IERP is where we measure effective output power. Very good explanation. Unfortunately too many folks in FPV don't understand or follow the rules. Little chance of enforcement by the FCC unless you are causing problems, big problems. 5.8 GHZ has always been seen as an experimenters band as well as 3 GHZ. No activity by HAMs on those bands. I jumped from 2.4 GHz to 10 GHZ (portable dish) in my station. 10 GHz is were the portable stations hangout and do scheduled attempts to set new distance records for themselves.

      Is it overreach to require you to have a driver license to be allowed to share the road with other drivers?
      The idea behind the HAM license is to make sure all operators can share the spectrum, without stepping on each other. Or interfering with licensed spectrums.

    Using the a tiny sa ultra (good to 6ghz) you could show colorful graphs to give more info on signal content, and log to USB to make your graphs faster. Also those microcircuits attenuators don't inspire confidence in the measurements, and some of the devices you test go well over their power rating. I suggest looking at getting some better quality and higher wattage attenuators for example Narda 5W dc-6GHz. These aviation/military grade components would lend more confidence to your measurements, and can be had for good prices used on ebay.

I always thought I'd just stick with DJI to keep it simple. If I'm going to get another set of googles to run Walksnail which goggles are the best of the best all around goggles?
    Thanks for the awesome video that's now gonna make me spend more money...

  • @Pzkriek
    @Pzkriek วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Does the extra power really help? The Walksnail system is a 2 way communication system between the goggles and the VTX. By only increasing the output power of the VTX, but not increasing the output power of the goggles would the goggles TX not be the limiting factor on range, not the VTX power output?

    • @ddegn
      @ddegn วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The goggles don't transmit nearly as much data as the VTX so I think the goggles don't need as much power to achieve the same range as the VTX.

    • @100sons
      @100sons 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      Exact, the goggles only send callbacks to ask for frames to be resent, its just a ping, not full video blocks. Also if you use the race mode, this functionality is i think not used, and only in receive mode, to be sure to get good fixed latency, at the detriment of blocky frames appearing sometimes

    I do love data and bench test results, but none of that translates to IRL performance and range. Sure, in a lab setting it might be 2x the range, but that probably only translates to like 25% more range IRL, maybe more on a perfect day with a clear line of site. O3 is rated to 1200mw max, so less than 2x as powerful. Also, Walksnail's compression algorithm seems to be a lot worse than DJIs, which means range will be probably about the same. And, 2x power only translates to 1.4x the range, even on the same system.

I kind of understand the limit if you are 100m high where the signal has free path everywhere but when flying FPV you are usually low with a lot of obstructions between you and the drone. Those obstacles also block the signal for everyone else so higher output powers do not matter that much. But law is law 🤷‍♂️
